How would you describe this look?

This look was created for a collection I created for Sebastian Professional. I recently auditioned and became a part of the North American Design Team and my beautiful model/friend Dawn (in the photo) was one of my 2 models which I showcased for my audition.

My model can basically rock any red tone color.

I absolutely love copper tones! So I really wanted to get her away from the red-violet family and bring her over to a more sultry, fiery and vibrant side of the red toned family. I wanted something that could light a flame by glance so I chose copper tones.

The color is intense and fiery while still holding a graceful elegance. My model carries it so well not only because of her skin tone and confidence but because she has the long gorgeous locks to show it off!

I love how the color blends from root to ends. I wanted to create an effortless blend so when her hair grows out you wouldn’t see a dramatic line of demarcation. I kept her root color leveled (same level as her natural just with a different tone for a more dramatic effect). In the long run that will help to maintain an easier grow out.

For the overall look, I wanted to deliver a color that would catch your attention.

Any advice for someone considering it?

Make sure you’re committed and have the confidence to wear this color. Being a redhead on any spectrum of the color is maintenance. It’s one of the fastest fading tones but it’s also one of the most captivating color shades. Luckily with the color line I use, Wella has a technology behind their red shades that make them so bright and vibrant!

For maintenance, you would have to consider a salon visit every 4-6 weeks for touch-ups. As for the proper color/texture candidate, as long as you consult with your stylist, almost anyone can rock red hair on their skin tone. I probably wouldn’t recommend it for pink or red undertones, but there is a variety of red shades that could complement an array of skin tones.

This client has long and dense hair, so I layered her hair with a few of my favorite styling products. I started off with Sebastian Professional Dark oil (to add shine and smooth the cuticle without taking volume away) + Sebastian Whipped Creme (for volume and hold and easy movement) + Sebastian Trilliant (for conditioning the cuticle, adding shine and protecting from heat). I blow dried with a large round brush, then I took 1.25-inch hot tools pro curling iron and set her curls spraying each section with Sebastian Re-Shaper. I let them cool down before taking each one down and separating them gently. To finish the styles, I sprayed her hairstyle with Sebastian Zero-Gravity for an easy flow and buildable finish.

This color suits anyone who is committed to maintaining but also wants to stand out. Redheads are such an enticing color that you notice them anywhere they go. Some can look artificial but in this case, I wanted it to look natural, vibrant and elegant. You definitely want to hone this color with confidence!

Braided Halo

Q&A with style creator, Brooke Waskey
Licensed Cosmetologist @ Denni Rose Salon in Danville, CA

How would you describe this look?

The Dutch fishtail crown braid is one of my favorites! It’s basically an inside-out fishtail braid. I like to do it this way because it makes it puffier and something different than a traditional braid. You can pull apart as much or as little as you want. On this particular updo, she wanted it tighter and more controlled.

Any advice for someone considering it?

This look can be worn by anyone! What I love about this look is it can be dressed up or dressed down for the boho look (my favorite).

I like to grit up the hair with a dry shampoo first. Then, I like to spray with some texturizing spray! I finish it off with a light hairspray. It’s a good go-to updo for a nice boho vibe!

The Prettiest Pony

How would you describe this look?

I created this very effortless ponytail look for an easy day to night transition for the holiday seasons. I love the fishtail detail above the thick wrap of the ponytail it gives it a feminine touch.

Any advice for someone considering it?

This is an easy look to dress up and down. The benefit of a textured pony means that dirty hair works best, as it helps it attain the messy look.

I used Texture Takeover and Up for Air by Fave4 to prep the hair before styling.

Natural & Boho-Inspired

How would you describe this look?

This look is very natural and boho-inspired. The volume on the upper head gives great texture and goes well with the soft, wavy, and sun-kissed blonde hair.

My favorite thing about it is that you can wear this hairstyle for many occasions. I imagine a summer outdoor wedding!

Any advice for someone considering it?

For an everyday look, you can combine this hairstyle with boots, jeans, and a white shirt. The possibilities are endless.

Over the shoulder, long hair and a good amount of thickness is recommended for this hairstyle. After creating the braid, you’ll need enough hair on the sides to cover the ears.

I used a 1-inch curling iron to curl the hair. After curling, I went through with my hands and a gloss oil from Kenra Professional for shine and to break the curls up. Puff Me from Design Me is great to use after braiding to get the texture and volume you need for this whimsical look.

At the end, I wrapped a hair strand around to make look even softer.

Everyday Effortless

Q&A with style creator, Ciannie Aviles

How would you describe this look?

I would describe this look as a soft and effortless everyday hairstyle. One thing I love about this look is that as the week goes on, it becomes more effortless and lived-in.

Any advice for someone considering it?

This style is for everyone! It works best if you blow out the hair straight. At the crown of the head, blow the hair out forward.

After the hair is dry, use a little texture spray (my favorite is Ouai Texturizing Spray) before curling with a 1-inch curling iron. Wait at least two to three minutes to let the curls cool so they will last as long as possible. Once cooled, spray all of the hair with a medium hold hairspray (my favorite is Moroccanoil Medium Hold Hairspray). After spraying, use a wide-tooth comb on the curls to achieve this effortless look.

Boho Braided Knots

Q&A with style creator, Reyes Ortiz

How would you describe this look?

This is a cute, boho-type style that can be dressed up or dressed down depending the client and her style.

Any advice for someone considering it?

Use a texturizing spray or thickening spray on hair before doing the knots to make them more full.

I think anyone would look stunning in this look. It is suitable for a variety of occasions from weddings to simply running errands.

Simple But Beautiful

How would you describe this look?

I would describe this look as simple but beautiful. It is an easy-to-do style that looks like a lot of effort was put into it. It’s something you can wear to a formal occasion, a casual event, or even work.

Any advice for someone considering it?

This look is a great choice for anyone. I worked with my client’s natural parting and texture, and only used three products for styling: Redken’s One United All-In-One Multi-Benefit Treatment, Triple Take 32 Extreme High Hold Hairspray, and Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist.

I only needed two pins for this client because that’s all her hair required, but obviously more should be used as needed to help the style hold and last all day.

How would you describe this look?

This is a casual look with just a touch of elegance. One thing I love about that look is that you can wear it with some comfy jeans or a cute cocktail dress.

Any advice for someone considering it?

For a client to achieve this look, I recommend using a texture spray after curling. You can also add a few pieces of hair if the bun is not thick enough. Just remember that this doesn’t have to be perfect to be a fun look!

Elegant Hollywood Curls

Q&A with style creator, Toni Louise Calhoun
Stylist @ Design 1 Salon Spa in Portage, MI

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

These are Hollywood waves and are such a nice and elegant way to wear your curls. I love how soft the look is and how really anyone with lots of hair can pull it off if they are wanting a more vintage look.

What products do you recommend to maintain and recreate this look?

I used Redken Shine Spray to set the look and keep the waves looking fresh, and followed with Redken Triple Take 32 hairspray to set the look. This is a very strong hold hairspray without the heavy stickiness.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

This look is definitely not your everyday look, but more for a night on the town or date night. I created this look for a work Christmas party.

It is best for oval, circle and heart shaped faces ,but that doesn’t mean that anyone with a square face can’t pull it off. I say anyone can wear this vintage glam look!

Elegant Messy Pony

Q&A with style creator, Brodie
Manager / Senior Stylist / Colourist @ Impressions In Hair in Geelong, VIC

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

I love this look because it’s so simple yet elegant. You can wear it as classy and sleek as you like, or mess it up a bit for a more casual, relaxed, “no effort” sort of look.

What products do you recommend to maintain and recreate this look?

To create this look, I used the KMS Therma Shape 2-in-1 spray to help prep the hair and hold the curl. I also used it as an overall hairspray to keep the look from appearing too done up and stiff.

I also recommend using the KMS Anti-Humidity Spray to help seal the look. This product will give the look a beautiful shine and to make sure it doesn’t frizz if there is any sign of humidity in the air.

Another product I used was the Goldwell Just Smooth Taming Oil. I just put a tiny bit through the ends of the pony to make it nice and soft, and to help tame the flyaways.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

This look is one of my favorites because it works for so many different hair types and occasions. You can mix it up by making it a more sleek look for a formal event, or leave it looking effortless.

I have found that this look works best on someone who has long, thick hair because it’s easier to get a fuller-looking ponytail. You can create so many different versions of this stunning style!

#16 Smooth Flip

Written by Cynthia Nicasio

This is a very sweet and subtle throw back to the more serious flip of the 90’s. Let’s just say this is the chic younger sister of the traditional ‘flip’!

How to Style:

  1. Apply cream gel to damp hair.

  3. When hair is completely dry, spray the ends with hairspray.

#17 Wand Magic

Written by Cynthia Nicasio

Curling wands have quickly become a long-haired girl’s best friend. They are easy to use and their style usually lasts a couple days!

Simple Long Hairstyle with Curls
Style by Yellow Strawberry Global Salon, Sarasota, FL

How to Style:

  1. On dry hair, spritz with heat protectant. Comb throughout to distribute product.
  2. Section hair into sections about the size of the base of your wand.
  3. Spray each section with working styling spray and comb though.
  4. Wrap hair around wand, hold and release. Repeat over entire head.
  5. Use a shine gloss to define finished curls.

Recommended Products:

Paul Mitchells Awapuhi Line’s Finishing Spray has a soft hold and leaves the hair weightless and shiny.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This is a universally flattering look for most all facial shapes. For thicker, longer hair types, choose a larger wand or curling iron as it will minimize styling time.

Tip:

For long hair with little to no layering, curls should sit very low, only curling on the ends of your hair because of lack of shape in the hair. If you style your hair regularly and want more movement, body and curls when you style, ask your stylist about layers!
