How would you describe this look?

This look offers a little bit of edge underneath that sexy silver blonde. An edge that you are able to hide. Think “peekaboo” without the color. The blonde undercut hairstyle is my favorite because you get to pick a new design every few weeks!

Any advice for someone considering it?

I always like to be honest and let women know when considering an undercut that yes although it is wicked, it does require upkeep. Think of how quickly your hair grows and the fact that you will have to touch it up every couple of weeks. But that also makes for more fun because it opens the window for experimenting with designs! It is a way to be adventurous with your hair without having to go all out with your color. I also remind everyone that the grow out process once you decide you are done with this look, is exactly that, a process. A well-worth-it one.

How would you describe this look?

I would call this look a rock chick bob. It’s actually very classic one length A-line haircut but I love the way undercut and cool color together makes it’s more modern and edgy. I wanted to create turquoise roots what will seamlessly melt into bright neon green and yellow lengths to give lots of dimensions when styling it different ways.

Any advice for someone considering it?

You just need to think a couple of things. First, think about the thickness of your hair as this will the key how high the undercut should be. If you have very thick hair you can have higher undercut but finer hair needs to stay lower to leave enough thickness for lengths.

Second is your face shape as this will be for what length hair should be, cheekbone or jawline length suits oval, heart and round shapes as it will enhance them. Under jawline or even collarbone length to gives the impression of more longer face shape.

There is also the texture of the hair as this is key point how much time and styling products you will need. Hair straighteners are great for giving that sleek finish or doing some cool curls for an evening out. This haircut can be very versatile and will work in any color just have fun with styling and trying out different looks with it.

How would you describe this look?

I was inspired by this look while watching Black Panther! Undercut hairstyle ideas often come from movies. One of the main characters, Shuri, had something like it on the back of her head but you could only see it for a few seconds throughout the entire movie. What inspired me to do this on my client was the fact that she reminded me of the character, strong, smart, and bold.

To the person thinking about doing an undercut, definitely, understand that the grow-out process isn’t all that fun. You’ll definitely go through an awkward stage as it grows out but you only live once! A little bit of estimation you can do for yourself is that the average person grows approximately 6 inches of hair a year. It can be slightly high maintenance as designs grow out in approximately two weeks and hair in general needs to be maintained within a month.

Any and all hair types can totally do undercut looks. Face shape plays no part in an undercut but you might want to think about where you plan on showing it off depending on how often you tie up your hair or where you part your hair. Also, think about responsibilities such as work or what not and if it could get you in trouble but 9 out of 10 times undercuts are very easy to hide.

I love doing undercuts on two types of women. The ones that just can’t stand their bulk and have tried just about everything to take their hair down in weight and to the other woman that wants to express herself in a way not many other women do.

Undercuts with designs are so fun because they are like temporary tattoos. Every couple of weeks you can get a new look!

How would you describe this look?

This whole look is delicately edgy. From the braid to the texture, to the undercut, every aspect was carefully chosen to give my client the option of a soft look or a sassy, rebellious look.

I loved every aspect of this. The color was a 5-hour transformation from rainbow to copper. After the color, we gave her a cut with lots of texture and freshened up her undercut. Right before she left, I wanted her to see that having a natural shade could still be as much fun as her bright rainbow hair, so I sprayed her hair with dry wax and added a small Dutch braid along the top of her undercut.

It is best that every cut and color be refined to suit each individual person. Color-wise, this color is best suited for a fairer skin tone. This cut is best suited for a client who knows how to style their hair and takes the time to style it. I wouldn’t recommend this cut on tight, curly hair or on very thin, fine hair. The denser the hair, the easier it is to style and switch around from side to side.

When styling for a sleek look I love using the It’s A 10 Miracle Styling Serum and Amika the shield anti-humidity spray and then flat iron to a smooth finish.

When styling for an edgy look, I love the Kenra air grip spray. I flat iron first and then spray with air grip and use my fingers to place each piece the way I want it.

Undercut for Little Girls

How would you describe this look?

To me, the look is different and unique especially with this loud color pop added to it. The blue and the undercut made it stand out and complete the bold yet low maintenance look that we were striving for. The cutest thing about this was being creative with the free hand color placement and the undercut being the cherry on top.

Any advice for someone considering it?

Just do it! Embrace a new, fun makeover for yourself. It can promote positivity, a new attitude, and a creative energy throughout your life. For easy at home maintenance, consider a conditioner with a pigment in it, to brighten your hair color when it fades. If you are in an environment that might not embrace a wild look, consider a lighter or pastel shade. Keep up with the undercut regularly to keep this look fresh.

Undercut Braid

How would you describe this look?

I carried out a pattern on the shaved nape and painted over the drawing for more contrast and brightness.

It should be noted that the drawing will only look stylish, contrast, and brightly only for several weeks. Then during the process of hair growth, the pattern will be washed away. If there is a desire to keep the hair tattoo, visit your stylist again.

To create new designs, it is necessary to wait until the hair grows to a certain length. Such patterns are recommended to clients with long hair as well as with some creativity. A big plus of such hairstyle is that you can opt to hide it under the bulk of your hair.

Any advice for someone considering it?

It’s an excellent way to stand out from the crowd or not get lost in a crowd of identical hairstyles and to draw the attention of people around. It allows you to show uniqueness, singularity, and identity.

This hair art allows you to self-express and shows your culture using fashion. Owners of hairstyles like this are usually very courageous and creative.

Be ready to constantly draw attention and receive compliments!

How would you describe this look?

I absolutely love everything about how this look turned out. Every element seemed to come together perfectly. We were aiming to create a low maintenance style, but something that made you take a second look and take notice. Through the ends we went for ocean feels with beautiful seas blues and teals.

Then the hidden gem comes, the nape undercut. I’ve always kept it simple with undercut designs in the past and simple can be hugely effective. This time I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone and create a design that I would never have considered. I went for the zebra print as it wasn’t just about adding lines, the thicker flowing shapes that were shaved out are just as important to the overall look as the hair I left on. When you look at it you are instantly drawn to the design and flow of the undercut.

Any advice for someone considering it?

Nape undercuts can be a brilliant style to consider if you’re after an easy low maintenance change of style. They work extremely well for people with thick hair for removing a lot of bulk. Making it easier to manage, quicker to do and great for keeping the neck cooler in summer.

As far as upkeep on an undercut you would need to have it reshaped/styled every 3/4 weeks. Other than that, they take no styling time needed meaning they can be brilliant for a busy lifestyle. The fact you can wear the hair down hiding an undercut or up showing it off gives style options also.

The only main thing I would say to really take into consideration when thinking of having of this style would be the ‘growing out phase’. It will take time to grow. Are you prepared to go through the possible awkward stage with your hair flicking on the back of your neck? Would you consider other style options during this process?

If this so something you are thinking, ask your stylist. Use their knowledge and skill. They know your hair and will gladly take the time to sit down with you. Otherwise, have fun with your hair, embrace change and enjoy the journey.

How would you describe this look?

This is a convertible pixie cut. The different lengths and textures throughout the hair give it a soft and edgy look. This cut is for someone who loves to play with their hair. The best thing about this cut is that it allows you to create different looks without putting in all the extra styling hours into your morning routine. When it comes to the color it can be challenging and quite the maintenance, but it all depends on the base you are starting with.

Any advice for someone considering it?

This cut and color work best on medium texture hair, natural levels 5 and up. To create the most versatile styles, my go-to is Kevin.Murphy styling products. While the hair is damp I like to prep it with KM hair.resort to give it some hold and memory. Usually, blow drying using my fingers and smoothing a few pieces with a brush, if needed. To finish this style I like to use a dry texture spray such as KM bedroom.hair. Use your hands to manipulate the hair until you have achieved your perfect style for the day.

Pixie Undercut

How would you describe this look?

I would say that this is a pixie cut with a long, side fringe that can give anyone a feminine, chic look. Although you say goodbye to your lengths while rocking this look, it still gives its wearer plenty of styling options for various occasions.

There is also the option of adding a fading to the undercut. Along with certain angles, Victor Lomas added fading to add more dimension and depth to this particular, abstract design he created for the undercut.

Any advice for someone considering it?

This particular hairstyle can suit most face shapes, but going short is a big step. Don’t be afraid to ask your stylist for their opinion if this hairstyle will suit you and your lifestyle. The fun part about a pixie is that there are so many variations of this style that suit your own face shape and accentuate your best features. Taking to your stylist will also help you with some challenges you face with your hair like cowlicks, hair loss, etc.

Upkeep is also of great importance, especially with the undercut part. I would recommend coming in for a touch up with the fade every two weeks and a trim for your fringe once every month if you plan on keeping this hairstyle for a while. Designs can and will also grow out within a week and a half, but the fun part is that you have the option to rock new designs whenever you come in for a touch-up.

Don’t believe the myth that when you go short, life will be easier. Not every day will be a good hair day! Some days you can wake up and your hair will look in place and some days you’ll need to put in the extra effort to make it look right. Pixie cuts can look more stylish, classy, or even edgy when styled. For this client, I blowdried her hair upwards with a large round brush to give her more volume and slightly textured waves at her ends and finished with an elastic texturizer and finishing spray.

Messy Undercut

Q&A with style creator, Sarah Wall
Educator @ Toni and Guy Australia in Sydney, Australia

How would you describe this look?

This look is a really soft feminine undercut, keeping edge and class all at the same time. Messy undercut hairstyle ideas usually start with messing up the hair.

My fav thing about it is the fact that you can wear it any way you like. It’s a really versatile style, allowing you to hide the undercut whenever you want, and swapping the sides for flatness or volume. It’s a style you don’t have to blow dry, as the way it is cut allows it to fall into shape on those days life gets a little hectic.

Any advice for someone considering it?

This haircut is great for people with really thick hair as the undercut eliminates half the hair. It’s suitable for oval face shapes or round, as the sides being short will slim the face and the length on top will add volume to lengthen. Hair type would be anywhere from curly to straight, and I would advise wearing the top longer if it is curly due to it springing up too short.

The product should be very minimum. I would advise investing in some Label M sea salt spray to apply on the day you wash it, as it will take away that fluffy just-washed look and will add soft texture and still allow movement.

Keeping it longer on the top will allow you to tie it up to get it out of your face if you have gym or simply want to have that little top knot feeling.
