Space Double Bun Braid

Q&A with style creator, Mollie McGrath
Hairstylist @ Foxwood Salon in Seattle, WA

How would you describe this look?

I love space buns! They’re a very cute and youthful look, which works well for warm days, festivals, or just as an alternative to a ponytail.

My favorite part of this style is how we incorporated braids to give the look a bit more edge and interest!

Any advice for someone considering it?

To get the braids up the back, you’ll have to get a little uncomfortable. I had my friend sit down and put her head between her knees so I could braid up the back. You’ll also need some length to get the buns on top. My friend’s hair came down just a bit past her shoulders.

If you’ve got the length, try out space buns and channel your inner baby spice!

Touches of Fancy

Q&A with style creator, Tricia Riggio
Hair Designer in Peoria, AZ

How would you describe this look?

This look puts out a very fun bohemian vibe. My own personal style is very natural and simple with touches of “fancy”, and I think this look is just that.

The loose and natural twists allow the hair to breathe, while other hairs to fall out naturally and relax back in their natural position. This can be an everyday look, but it is also perfect for special occasions.

Any advice for someone considering it?

With the techniques I use, I have found that I can do this style on various thicknesses of hair. I have very fine and thin hair, so I apply awesome tricks to make the hair look fuller. This has translated over to my clients as well.

I like to prep the hair with a few wet products: a thermal spray, and styling cream, and a root lifter. I then blow the hair out appropriately for different textures. I like to use my smoothing iron to create the soft curls, and I can control the amount of curl as well by how slowly I pull the hair through the plates.

This style is great for any face shape. All hairdressers should be aware of their client’s natural part and hair direction for laying it down. If the client wants or needs a little framing around their face, then they are able to have what they want while still being inspired by this look.

This is such a beautiful and simple look than can take you from day to night in no time.

Medium-Length Braided Ponytail

Q&A with style creator, Alyson
Hairdresser @ The Colour Bar Salon in Simi Valley, CA

How would you describe this look?

My model was concert-bound, so this braided ponytail gave her a sexy, urban look, but most importantly she could dance the night away and still have great hair!

Any advice for someone considering it?

In creating this look, I used a few irons for texture as well as Redken’s Puff Me for volume and hold. My model had medium texture hair and we took it to the next level by mixing crimping and curls. Of course, it didn’t hurt that she’s gorgeous!

Easy & Gorgeous Dutch Braid Ponytail

Q&A with style creator, Anna Thomas
Hairstylist @ Salon Mulberry in Naples, FL

How would you describe this look?

The best way to describe this Dutch braid is it’s as easy as Sunday morning. Throwing some curls in there is always a great way to finish the look.

Incorporating a braid into your style always gives your mane a little something, especially if you aren’t having the best hair day and need to hide your day three unwashed hair!

Any advice for someone considering it?

My main advice to recreate this look is to use dry shampoo. Honestly, this style can work on any hair type and face shape as long as you use the right products. Keep in mind though if you have fine hair and it doesn’t hold a curl well, you might have to use a stronger hairspray or keep it flat. Either way it’s going to give your style a great look.

My go-to products for styling braided hairdos are Eco Water Killer Dry Shampoo, Davines Texturizing Dust, and Davines Oi Oil, and Davines Dry Texture Spray. The Oi Oil helps keep the braid smooth and lock down the flyaways, and also makes it a little easier to pull out strands to make the Dutch braid fuller.

This a great style for anyone who wants to be different and needs a fast style to get out the door.

Boho Ponytail

Boho Ponytail

Q&A with style creator, Katie Allan
Colour Manager @ Charles Worthington Salons in London, UK

How would you describe this look?

This look is called a boho pony. The vocal part of her color is through the front, so I wanted to create a style that enhanced that color in a modern and unique fashion. This a great example of how a color can complement a style and how a style can complement a color.

Any advice for someone considering it?

To try this look at home, I advise drying the hair with plenty of mouse or styling products. I used mousses by L’Oreal Tecni, and once the hair was dry, reapplied the product and dried it in for extra hold through the front. You need the hold from the products in this look as it is a loose updo.

This look is ideal for a square or heart shaped face because it softens the jawline areas. If you don’t like having too much hair pulled away from your face, I advise leaving shorter pieces out around the face. This style works great for everyday wear when you want to get your hair out of your face for work, or if you are out lunching with a friend.

Gently wave the hair with a large barrel tong, then take two sections from either side of the top of the head. Take a piece from the outer left section and cross it over to the right, then take a piece from the outer right section and cross it over to the left. Continue this until you are halfway down the length of the hair, then tie with a clear elastic.

Use a small piece of the hair from the pony to tie around the elastic and secure with a bobby pin. Use a volumizing dust through the braid to puff it out.

Sassy Messy Bun

Sassy Messy Bun
Instagram @foxgarde_hair

Q&A with style creator, Anastasia Kolotova
Hairstylist @ Trendy London Beauty Station in Tyumen, Russia

How would you describe this look?

My favorite thing about the messy bun, in general, is that this type of hairstyle is not hard to do on your own if you loved what your hairdresser did in the salon. It’s a simple hairdo but yet could be elegant, feminine, and even sassy if you wish it to look so. I can say that is one of any girl’s favorite hairstyles!

Any advice for someone considering it?

The great thing about messy bun is that few touches could change it from a classic office look to a classic chic look paired with a cocktail dress! More importantly, there are so many varieties that you don’t need to worry about how would it frame your face. Just make it with open or closed ears and decide how much volume you want on top, then add some loose hairs around the face as I did on this one.

All you need for the most simple messy bun is a hair elastic and a few pins. If you have really long hair, I suggest curling a little. This will make it easier to create the messy look and to give more volume to your hair.

You can create a slick style with a smoothing cream or wax, or a voluminous and really messy one if you use a dry shampoo on dry hair before creating the bun.

Easy Coachella Vibe

Q&A with style creator, Christina Prince
Hairstylist @ Morgan Ashley Salon in Birmingham, AL

How would you describe this look?

I created this look to be on the boho chic side. I wanted to make something creative and carefree with a Coachella vibe in mind.

My favorite thing about it is that it’s very versatile. It looks great with any face shape and you can tweak things to fit whatever look you’re going for. You can wear it to a wedding or to a music festival, and you can make it as messy or as polished as you want.

Any advice for someone considering it?

This look works best for people that have longer than shoulder-length hair. The most important thing for this type of look is texturizing! I used Bedroom.Hair by Kevin Murphy. It works well with all hair types and gives a good amount of grip without feeling too sticky. It also smells AMAZING! I finished the look with Spray De Mode by Bumble and bumble.

Side Dutch Braid with Waves

Side Dutch Braid with Waves
Instagram @hair.and.nina

Q&A with style creator, Malina Mihaela Contra
Freelance Hairdresser in Chicago, IL

How would you describe this look?

I would describe this as the perfect hairstyle for any occasion. It’s not too fancy for an everyday look, but elegant enough for a fancy event such as a wedding.

This is a side Dutch braid combined with beach waves. My favorite thing about this look is that it is one of those hairstyles that is easy to create and won’t take much time to recreate.

Any advice for someone considering it?

While this is an easy hairstyle once you get the hang of it, you do have to consider a few things before creating it. Never expect to have the same result as the picture you go for because everyone’s hair is different. If you have curly hair, like my client in the picture here, make sure you blow-dry the hair first, then do the braid and add the waves. This way you will avoid the frizz that the curly hair tends to have.

If you have straight hair, make sure you put a lot of product in the hair before you start curling it and after the finished result. Of course, all types of hairdos need product in it in order to stay, but straight hair particularly needs more than all. I recommend Puff Me powder to use on the braid after it’s done and after when pull on it for the thick braid effect. Before you start the hairstyle, I also recommend spraying a heat protecting spray. I use the spray by MoroccanOil.

To finish the hairstyle, spray with a medium hold hairspray and open the waves with your hands as you’re spraying, just to give more texture and volume to the hair. I personally use the Weightless hairspray from Rusk. I hope this was helpful and good luck trying this look yourself. It’s so fun!

Simple Twists

Q&A with style creator, Madeline Carrea
Top Level Hair Design Specialist @ Arrangement Salon and Day Spa in Ledgewood, NJ

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

This is a half up half down gorgeous style that is loose but with detail. The simplicity of the twist on the sides make this a quick and exquisite look. That is my favorite part of the style!

What products do you recommend to maintain and recreate this look?

I recommend Sudzz Fx Airplay designing spray to curl, then Sudzz Fx Aerofix to finish.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

Someone with medium to thick hair will wear this style best. It would be suitable for all face shapes.

Edgy Side Braid Cornrows

Edgy Side Braid Cornrows
Instagram @blowdry_cafe

Q&A with style creator, Robyn Carter
Stylist @ The Blowdry Cafe in Columbus, OH

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

This look is edgy meets sophistication. Whether you are casually walking down a busy NYC street or meeting friends at a club, you will not go unnoticed. A polished style with accents of mystery like this one is always a salon favorite!

What products do you recommend to maintain and recreate this look?

Maintaining this style should involve minimal amounts of the following products: Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Hydrocream Whip to eliminate frizz, Kenra Texturizing Taffy to sustain the integrity of the braid, and a light to medium hold hairspray to preserve the overall look.

Recreating this look can be difficult for an amateur. However, using the previously mentioned products with a good round brush technique, a similar style can be achieved. Braiding can be tricky business! If it proves to be too difficult, a twist or one side slicked back could be a good alternative.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

This fearless look can accommodate most lifestyles. Although it may appeal to a younger clientele, I have seen grandmas rock this style!

This creation is not dependent on specific hair texture or length. It can be that “new and fun” look for many people, but it will ultimately depend on personal preference.

Sexy Braided Pony

Q&A with style creator, Monica Healy
NYS Licensed Cosmetologist @ Bella Luna Salon in Long Island, NY

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

My favorite thing about this look is that it can be worn as an everyday look, or you can wear this hairstyle to any speacial event you have. Ponytails are all the rage this year! This is a fun way to turn a traditional boring ponytail to a sexy look, especially when you throw a braid in there. It gives the ponytail that extra spice!)

What products do you recommend to maintain and recreate this look?

Hairspray is your best friend! After you throw some curls into your hair, use a medium hold hairspray all over. For this particular look I used, milk_shake Lifestyling Medium Hold Hairspray. I love this hairspray because it has the perfect amount of hold and it is super flexible! You will still be able to run your hands through your hair without that sticky and tacky feeling that some hairsprays leave you with.

Pro Tips: If you have tiny baby hairs around your hairline, use a styling wax or pomade to smooth them. I always use Ryan Scott Styling Wax. It has a strong hold with a matte finish and is super pliable and easy to use.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

The best part of this hairstyle is that literally anyone can wear it! Like I mentioned before, you can wear this hairstyle anywhere, for any occasion, anytime! Ponytails are not just for the gym or lounging around anymore. !

Playful Pigtails

Playful Pigtails
Instagram @limeshairdesign

Q&A with style creator, Brydie
Salon Manager @ Limes Hair Design in Derbyshire, UK

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

I would describe this look as a playful twist on pigtails. My favorite part has to be the crimped textured pigtails with a lively sprinkle of glitter.

What products do you recommend to maintain and recreate this look?

We love to work with Fudge products. To recreate this look, my go-to products would be Tri-Blow Spray for essential heat protection, Blow Dry Putty to work in texture and body, Big Hair Elevate Powder to give root lift and texture, and finally Skyscraper Extra and Think Big Texture Spray.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

I recommend this look for any age, face shape or hair texture. This look is for the client that is looking for a fun, funky and sassy party look. This look can be tweaked to suit anyone and everyone!

Short ‘n Sassy Pixie

Short Fun

This chic look is a great way to rock your otherwise ordinary short pixie haircut.

How To Style:

Start with dry hair. Hair that is a day old is ideal because a little grit will help you create a look like this!

  1. Put a bit of texturizing cream on your fingertips. Run it through your hair with no particular rhyme or reason. Push the front up if you prefer.
  2. Spray everything with a strong hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

If you have short hair that’s cut in a pixie-type of style, this look is for you! Fine hair that’s straight will be easiest to style into this look. If you have thick curly hair, just be sure to use a flat iron or round brush to smooth your hair out before you apply product.

Recommended Products:

I love Sumo Tech by Bumble and Bumble. It’s light but will give your hair a ton of texture and won’t get flaky. It also has a matte texture so it won’t dry wet-looking.

Wildly Wonderful Side Part

Fun Blonde Hairstyle with Curls

Here’s a funky, fun take on your average curly style! It’s super glam and is perfect for a date night out.

How To Style:

  1. Begin with dry hair that’s smooth and parted to one side.
  2. Separate your hair into sections and secure each side with a very loose ponytail holder.
  3. Once you have your two ponytails, use a small curling iron and curl sections of the ponytails.s
  4. When you have curled all sections of the ponytail, remove the ponytail holders and violá!
  5. Run your fingers through the curls, then spray everything with a light hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This look is absolutely perfect for those of you with fine hair that want to make it appear bigger and fuller. Short to medium length hair is ideal for this look. It’s also a great way to show off your long, swoopy side bangs! A square face shape will be complemented by this look.

Recommended Products:

I love Moroccan Oil Medium Finishing spray for this style. It’s light and it smells amazing! You will love it.

A Modern Mohawk

Fun Modern Mohawk

This style falls in the “fun” category for sure! It’s a modern take on the classic Mohawk.

How To Style:

  1. First, create a “pouf” that begins at your hairline and goes back about three inches. Do this by backcombing with a backcombing brush to create volume at your roots.
  2. Next, gather your hair into three small ponytails. One should be right behind the pouf you just created, one right in the back/middle of your head, and the last one just below that, about two inches above the nape of your neck.
  3. Use a back combing brush and backcomb the hair in the ponytails.
  4. Once you have created a lot of texture and volume in the ponytails, use a few bobby pins to strategically link the whole style together so that the ponytails all look like one Mohawk section.
  5. Spray everything with a strong hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

If you have short to medium length hair that’s a bit coarse or curly, this look is absolutely for you. Also, hair with a lot of layers will work for this style. A round face shape will be complemented by this look.

Recommended Products:

Ladies, I cannot say this enough…use a backcombing brush instead of a comb! It’s much gentler on your hair and will give you incredible volume. Spornette makes one called the “Little Wonder” Brush and it’s fabulous!

Tip:

If you have fine hair and you want to try this look, spray a little dry shampoo at your roots before you begin backcombing. This will give your hair a bit of “grit” and will give your hair extra volume.

A Braided Halo

Braided Halo

This super soft and sweet look is totally dreamy! A little braid “halo” will complement any hairstyle.

How To Style:

  1. Begin by spraying your hair with a light working spray.
  2. Create a French braid that begins on one side of your part and extends back approximately two inches. Continue the braid until you reach your temple area and then secure the end back with a tiny bobby pin.
  3. Smooth the rest of your hair back so it hides the bobby pin you just used.
  4. Use a medium-sized curling iron to add some wave to the rest of your hair. Then use a back combing brush to backcomb your roots and get some volume.
  5. Spray everything with a strong hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This look is a great “updo” option if you have short hair. A long pixie is especially ideal. Finer to medium textured hair that’s straight will work perfectly. Any face shape is great for this style!

Recommended Products:

A working spray is a great product to keep on hand no matter what style you are creating! Fine hair lends especially well to a working spray. Does It All by Bumble and Bumble is my absolute favorite working spray. It’s so light but still gives your hair a little texture to work with.

Tip:

If you are having trouble creating a braid on super short hair, you can always simply twist your hair for a similar look.

Casual Bundles of Bounce

Casual Bundles of Bounce

This look is simply bouncy! Tons of volume makes for a voluminous, beautifully curled look.

How To Style:

  1. Begin with dry hair that’s smooth and parted to one side.
  2. Use a medium-sized curling iron and curl sections of your hair.
  3. Once all sections have been curled, use your fingers to separate the curls and make them appear softer and more natural.
  4. Use a backcombing brush to create volume at your roots in the crown area. Then use your brush to smooth down the back combed section.
  5. Spray everything with a light hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

If you have hair that’s thick and cut in a style with a bunch of layers, this look is for you! A square face shape will be complemented by this look.

Recommended Products:

Add a bit of shine spray to your hair after you have finished curling it. I love Shimmer Shine by Kevin Murphy! Spray it in your hands and then apply it to the ends of your hair.

Perfectly Piecey

Romantic Curly Hairstyle with Texture

This beautiful look is perfectly “pieced out” with plenty of texture and style. It’s ultra romantic and super easy to create!

How To Style:

  1. Begin with dry hair that’s parted to one side.
  2. Use a small curling iron to curl small sections of your hair. Spray each section with a working spray before you curl it.
  3. Once you have curled all of your hair, gather a section of hair at your part and separate it into three sections. Create a very loose French braid. Once the braid reaches your ear, secure it with a bobby pin. Be sure to disguise the bobby pin underneath the rest of your hair.
  4. Put a bit of shine serum on your fingertips and gently wrap each curl around your finger to define it and give the curls a separated, piecey look.
  5. Spray everything with a light hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This style is great for medium to longer hair that is cut in an a-line or has a lot of layers. It’s a great option for keeping a long fringe out of your face. If you have a round face shape, this look will be flattering to you.

Recommended Products:

A great product to use to separate the curls is Brilliantine by Bumble and Bumble. It’s light but will add just the right amount of shine to your hair!

Freely Flowing

Relaxed Blond Hairstyle with Curls

This flowy, relaxed look is suitable for nearly every length and hair texture! It’s an all purpose look that will never go out of style.

How To Style:

  1. Begin with dry hair that’s parted to one side.
  2. Curl sections of your hair using a small, 1-inch curling iron. Leave the ends out of the curling iron when curling.
  3. Once you have curled all of your hair, use your fingers to separate the curls and make them appear softer and more natural.
  4. Spray everything with a light hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

Short, medium or longer length hair is great for this style. Additionally, any texture of hair will work well for this look. Hair that’s layered will work perfectly for this style.

Recommended Products:

Before you start curling, spray each section with Spray de Mode by Bumble and Bumble. It will give the curls a bit more hold.

Beautifully Bodacious

Beautifully Bodacious

If you have long, thick hair, show it off with this sexy curled ‘do!

How To Style:

  1. Begin with dry hair parted to one side.
  2. Use a small curling iron to curl each section of your hair.
  3. If desired, gather the few sections of hair that are right around your temple areas and pull them back loosely. Secure them with a bobby pin.
  4. Use your fingers to gently separate the curls so they look softer and more natural.
  5. Spray everything with a light hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

If you have long and thick hair and has a bit of natural wave, this is a great styling option for you. A square or oval face shape will be complemented by this look.

Recommended Products:

For even more bounce and va-va-voom, spray some Unite Boosta Spray on your hair when it’s wet.

Old School Glam

Old School Glam

This retro glam look is easily one of the most fun and sassy looks in existence. It is easy to create and will have you turning heads all night!

How To Style:

  1. Curl sections of dry hair using a 1¼-inch curling iron. Be sure all the curls are going in the same direction. A good rule of thumb is to curl every section away from your face.
  2. Once you have curled everything, use a brush to gently brush through the curls to soften them and form a more defined curl pattern.
  3. Spray everything with a light hold finishing spray, then add a fun headband or hair adornment if you so desire!

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

Hair that’s mostly one length with very few layers is great for this look. An a-line haircut (shorter in the back and longer in the front) on short to medium length hair could also be perfect with this style. A square face shape will be complemented by this look.

Recommended Products:

I love Classic Hairspray by Bumble and Bumble. It’s light and won’t get sticky or crunchy. Spray it on hair before you curl AND after you have finished curling. It’s a dual purpose spray!

Flower Crowned and Classy

Long Romantic Hairstyle with Flower Crown

This über classy and romantic look has an extra element of sweetness with the flower crown.

How To Style:

  1. Begin with dry hair parted to the side.
  2. Use a 1-inch curling iron to curl small sections of your hair.
  3. When everything has been curled, use your fingers and separate the curls so that they feel more natural and flowy.
  4. Spray with a light hold finishing spray, then attach your flower crown or other hair adornment using bobby pins.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

Here’s another style that’s incredibly versatile and will work for any hair type! An oval or heart shaped face will be flattered by this look.

Recommended Products:

If you want to add a little shine and shimmer to your look, use Kevin Murphy’s Shimmer Shine Spray after you have finished styling. Spray a bit in your hands and then apply it to the ends of your hair.

Tip:

Keep in mind that I recommended using a 1-inch curling iron. If you have shorter, finer hair, this may make your curls too spiral-ish and you may want to opt for using a thicker curling iron. The bigger the curling iron, the bigger and looser the curl will be!

Perfectly Undone

Short Curly

This style looks relaxed yet intentional. It’s a great option for a fancy night out!

How To Style:

  1. Begin with dry hair parted to the side. Use a small curling iron to curl sections of your hair.
  2. Use a backcombing brush to add body at the roots of your hair.
  3. Start gathering sections of your hair and pinning them up using bobby pins. Don’t overthink this step! The idea here is to get the hair pinned up so it looks intentional, but not perfect. Be sure to leave some longer pieces out around your face to add some movement.
  4. Spray everything with a strong hold hairspray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This look is perfect if you have shorter hair (about shoulder length or collarbone length) that is full of body and bounce. If you have naturally curly hair, even better! A rounder face shape will be complemented by this style.

Recommended Products:

If you need a bit more body at your roots, try spraying a bit of dry shampoo on your roots before you back comb. I love Fresh Dust by L’Oreal Professional.

Au Naturel

Natural Curly

This super fun and sassy look is right up your alley if you have a ton of natural curls!

How To Style:

  1. After you wash your hair, pat it with a towel to absorb moisture then apply a mousse and curl cream to your locks.
  2. Use a diffuser to dry your hair.
  3. If more volume is desired, use a backcombing brush to add volume at your roots.
  4. Spray everything with a light hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This look will work for you if you have a LOT of natural curl. Any hair length will work for this style. The more layers, the better. A square face shape will be flattered by this look.

Recommended Products:

Sculpting Foam by Paul Mitchell is a great product to combine with a curl cream!

Tip:

Any curly girls who don’t own a diffuser should definitely invest in one. It’s an attachment that goes on your blow dryer and diffuses the air coming out of the dryer so it can dry your curls evenly. It defines your curls and is a must-have for your curly locks!

The Pretty Pomp

Pretty Pompadour

This pompadour look is totally modern and chic. For short hair it’s a must try!

How To Style:

  1. Begin with dry hair that you have round brushed.
  2. Spray the roots of your hair with dry shampoo. Use a back combing brush to backcomb your hair at the roots.
  3. Use a boar bristle brush to smooth out your hair and form a pompadour style.
  4. Spray everything with a heavy layer of strong hold hairspray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This style is ideal if you have very short hair on the sides and longer hair on the top. Fine hair that’s straight will work perfectly for this style. This look will really accentuate your features, so really any face shape will work for this style.

Recommended Products:

To help this style hold in place all night, you will want to use a very strong hold hairspray. I love Air Control by Aveda!

Naturally Curly

Long Naturally Curly Hairstyle with Deep Part

If you have been blessed with naturally curly locks, you will definitely want to give this look a try. A deep side part will accentuate your beautiful features and highlight a fun, layered cut!

How To Style:

  1. Begin with wet hair that has been patted dry with a towel.
  2. Apply a curl cream and mousse evenly throughout your hair.
  3. Use a diffuser to dry your hair.
  4. After you have dried your hair, back omb at your roots if more volume is desired.
  5. Create a very deep part that begins on one side of your head near your temple.
  6. Spray everything with a light hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This look is awesome if you have a square or oval face. Naturally curly hair of any length will work for this style. A haircut with plenty of layers will give you even more volume and body.

Recommended Products:

Bumble and Bumble makes a great curl cream that’s light and will accentuate your curls. Also, Sculpting Foam by Paul Mitchell is a mousse that is light and won’t get too sticky. Those two combined together create a great cocktail for perfect curls!

Tip:

If you don’t have naturally curly hair, you can create this look by using a 1-inch curling iron and curling very small sections of your hair.

Sweetly Side Swept

Side Swept Braid Hairstyle Side

The sweet braid adds a bit of interest to this beautiful, side-swept look.

How To Style:

  1. Begin with dry, straight hair that’s parted to one side. If you have naturally curly or wavy hair, blow-dry your hair straight or use a flat iron to smooth it out.
  2. Braid your hair staring at your hairline, continuing back to the nap of your neck on the opposite side of your head. Secure the end with a bobby pin, but be sure to cover it with other hair.

Best Face Shape and hair Type:

This look is great if you have longer hair that doesn’t have a lot of short layered pieces. If you have a round or oval face, this look will compliment you nicely.

Recommended Products:

To make your hair look extra soft and silky, apply some Aveda Dry Remedy Oil to the ends. Use it sparingly thought because a little bit goes a long way! Keep this product off of your roots.

Tip:

A braid like this may take some practice, so don’t get frustrated if it doesn’t turn out perfect on the first try. You can also enlist a friend to help you out!

Awesomely Editorial

Awesomely Editorial

This look is totally editorial and over-the-top fun. Try it for a night out on the town or a fun dress-up event!

How To Style:

  1. Begin with dry hair that’s parted down the center.
  2. Use the smallest curling iron you have and curl small sections of your hair.
  3. When you reach the top section of your hair near your part, apply a small amount of smoothing gel that extends out about two to three inches from your part. Use a comb to smooth your hair. Curl the ends of that section of hair. If the gel doesn’t get your hair smooth enough, secure that section to your head using bobby pins.
  4. Use a backcombing brush to backcomb each section to get more volume.
  5. Spray everything with a strong hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This look is great and will be much easier to create if you have medium to short hair that has a bit of natural curl or wave. A square face shape will be complemented by this look.

Recommended Products:

I love using Super Goo by Kevin Murphy for any sort of gel/strong hold needs. The consistency is a little unusual, so start with only a little and add more if needed. Use a comb to comb it through the top section of your hair.

A Funky French Twist

Funky French Twist

This funky take on a French twist is a great way to modernize a timeless classic!

How To Style:

  1. Begin with dry hair that’s parted to one side.
  2. Separate a section of hair around your hairline that extends back approximately two inches. Secure this section in a clip while you create your French twist.
  3. Gather the rest of your hair and create a French twist in the back of your head. If you have never done this, try this simple tutorial.
  4. Curl the hair that was in the section around your hairline that you had clipped out of your way using a small curling iron.
  5. Use a backcombing brush to backcomb the hair and make it appear fuller and more voluminous.
  6. Use bobby pins to secure some of the curls back to the side of the French twist.
  7. Spray everything with a strong hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This style will look best on someone who has a lot of long, thick hair. If it’s naturally curly, even better! A round face shape will be complemented by this look.

A good working spray will be helpful when creating a look like this. I love Does It All Spray by Bumble and Bumble. It’s my all time favorite all-purpose hairspray. Give it a shot and you won’t be disappointed!

Bohemian and Braided

Bohemian Braided Hairstyle Back

This funky take on a French twist is a great way to modernize a timeless classic!

How To Style:

  1. Begin with dry hair that’s parted down the middle or to the side.
  2. Curl each section of your hair using a small curling iron.
  3. Gather a section of hair on either side of your hairline that starts at your part and is about three inches by three inches. Clip these sections aside while you deal with the rest of your hair.
  4. Gather the rest of your hair into a low ponytail/bun. Leave out some pieces around your hairline if you desire.
  5. Un-clip the sections you separated around your hairline. Braid this hair, then bring it back to join the low ponytail/bun you have just created. Bobby pin it so that the ends of the braids are hidden in the bun.
  6. Spray everything with a strong hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

Long to medium hair that’s fairly thick is ideal for this style. A heart or oval shaped face will be complemented by this look.

Recommended Products:

If you want a strong hairspray, try Session Spray by Kevin Murphy. It keeps your hair in place and is fairly light!

Tip:

If you don’t have super thick hair, try creating the braids as French braids instead of just regular braids. It will make them appear thicker!

The Flipped Out Frock

Short Flipped Out

This look is fun at its finest! It’s a great way to give an otherwise ordinary bob a new, modern twist.

How To Style:

  1. Start with dry hair that’s parted down the middle. Style your bangs as desired.
  2. Use a small curling iron and curl each section starting from the mid-shaft and curling to the ends. Avoid curling the hair that’s two inches or less from your scalp.
  3. Once all sections of hair have been curled, use a backcombing brush to gently backcomb the ends of your hair to make it appear fuller.
  4. Spray everything with a strong hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This look is perfect for you if you have fine hair that’s short. This look will make your hair look thicker and fuller. A square or oval face shape will be complemented by this style.

I love using Aveda Air Control Hairspray. It smells great and will keep your style looking good all night!

Straight Shooter

Long Straight Hairstyle with Fringe

How To Style:

  2. Use a round brush to smooth your fringe and the rest of your hair.
  3. If needed, use your flat iron to straighten your hair even further.
  4. Apply a shine serum to your ends.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

Any hair texture will work for this look! If you have wavy or curly hair naturally, your round brushing may take a bit more elbow grease. A round face shape will be complemented by this straight and sleek look.

A shine spray will add a great sheen and finish to your look. Try Shimmer Shine by Kevin Murphy. Spray it in your hands and then apply it to the ends of your hair.
