No matter where you live, winter can wreak havoc on your hair. Dry air, winter humidity or even traveling to someplace exotic can leave any man in a total hair tizzy.
That’s why we spoke with men’s hair care expert, Jason Schneidman, Dove Men+Care expert and “The Men’s Groomer” who has worked with some of Hollywood’s top actors to tell us all about how men can care for their coiffs this tricky time of year.
These top men’s winter hair care tips will have you looking both dashing and cozy all season long!
1. Grow it Out
“Personally I love taking a break and growing hair for fall/winter, so that’s what’s in right now – longer length hair” Schneidman says. If you aren’t into the longer look, be sure to keep your hair well-moisturized, especially since cold climates can really dry out strands. “I recommend trying the Dove Men+Care 2-in-1 Shampoo+Conditioners, which are a quick and easy way to moisturize for guys, especially since too much conditioning will just weigh the hair down,” he says.
2. Reconsider Accessories
Hats and bandanas may keep the head warm, but they can also cause strain and breakage. “Make sure to let your hair follicles breathe in the winter time and wash out styling product regularly,” Schneidman says.
3. Keep it Trim
As a general rule, guys should maintain their cut with a trim every 3-6 weeks.
4. Plan Ahead
“I advise my clients to wash their hair the day before special events so that it will be clean, but have a little bit of build-up to add life. Otherwise, it’s too slick to work with and has no-build up to counteract the elements,” Schneidman says. “Try a fortifying hair care product like the Dove Men+Care Fresh Clean 2-in-1 Shampoo+Conditioner, which is proven to make hair three times stronger and refreshes and revitalizes while it washes away dirt and grease.”
5. Stop Fussing
Well it’s tempting to constantly touch your hair, Schneidman says to resist! “The biggest challenge for a lot of guys it to stop playing with their hair. I style Bruno Mars regularly, and the secret to his hair is to not touch it during the drying process and after I’ve set the style. If he begins to play with it while it’s wet or after I’ve styled it, it gets frizzy, loses the curl, and we have to re-wet it and shake it out again.”
