I’ve been doing Soft Reset Lobs for years, long before they were called Soft Reset Lobs, and they do wonders for clients. The goal is to make the client feel like they are starting fresh. The length is also perfect because the client won’t miss their long hair too much. They are making a change, and cutting their hair to this length is very impactful for them. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen clients cut their hair to this length, and right after they do it, they have a huge sigh of relief followed by “Why did I wait to do this?”
Last spring I had a client who thought she needed to grow her hair long for her wedding, so she did. After the wedding passed, she came to me with hair she had been growing for three years, still holding onto it like it was a security blanket. So, we did a soft lob and added a little bit of texture and she burst into tears. These were tears of joy because she said that for the first time in a long time, she felt like herself again. The beauty of this cut is that it is able to create enough change so that people feel they are able to let go of whatever was holding them back before. I love all 25 of these variations of the cut and I’m sure some of them will inspire you to book an appointment.

#1: Side-Parted Lob with That Perfect Barely-There Wave
If someone came to my chair and said, “I wanna look put together but like, I didn’t try that hard,” I would suggest a side part as it’s going to do a lot of the heavy lifting here as it gives a natural sweep, falls really nicely, and sits just above your collarbone. This cut with medium to thick hair is going to do wonders with really low effort. A small amount of texturizing spray and scrunched through damp hair and you’re pretty much set. This is one of those hair cuts that looks really expensive.

#2: Dark and Glossy Lob with Soft Face-Framing Layers
The rich dark base looks so healthy with the shine and the soft front layers provide nice movement around the face without being too much. If you want something that says “I got a new haircut” without going shorter, this is a good choice. The layers will need some styling in the morning but a round brush and blow dryer will do the work.

#3: Caramel Melt Lob with Seamless Root Blend
Wow! That cut is absolutely stunning! The melt out of the darker roots is so careful, I can see a very seamless result, and that is what you want! With this length and style, you want the transition to be really smooth, otherwise it can look dated! I love that it is just above the shoulders, which means it still has that clean lob shape. And straight to lightly wavy hair like this is just effortless! You’ll definitely need to keep up the melt with your colorist, but the cut is going to be low maintenance day to day.

#4: Copper Lob with Bouncy Lived-In Texture
The stick being copper adds such a lovely warmth to it, and I can just imagine how nice the color looks sparkling in the light as it moves with the hair. For this braid and wave combo, these wigs are not going to be super tight. It’ll be looser and wavier, kind of like when you do a braid and sleep on it. It’s gonna work really well if you have enough density to hold the texture without it falling flat by noon. There is a high commitment color in copper though, as it fades quickly, so you’ll have to keep that in mind.

#5: Blunt One-Length Lob with a Polished Edge
Your go-to style if you want something clean, sharp and modern without having to think about it too much, is definitely this lob. No layers means one length cutting with blunt ends for a super chic look. The thing with blunt cuts though, is you have to stay on top of your trims; every six to seven weeks is pretty ideal. As soon as the ends start to thin out you lose the effect, but the fresh look is so worth it.

#6: Warm Caramel Lob with Tousled Texture
I love the placement of these highlights! They catch the movement of the waves and these dynamic traits make medium density hair look more full! That is the beauty of great highlight placement at this length. Even when your hair is misbehaving, it creates the look of volume. For this style, I would recommend a lightweight mousse before diffusing to achieve that tousled look without it being crunchy.

#7: Dark Chocolate Lob with Warm Ribbons of Dimension
I’m not sure what it is, but the combination of the warm pieces and chocolate base especially comes off as high-end to me. The focus is on the color and the cut is clean one length with hardly any layering. For fine to medium hair this is ideal as it means the color does all the work in terms of depth and movement so your cut doesn’t have to be overdone with a ton of layers. Personally, I think a smoothing serum through the ends is a good idea to get that glass look.

#8: Beachy Lob with a Soft Balayage Fade
This hairstyle gives you a beachy feel as if you’ve just come back from a tropical holiday with sun-kissed hair. The color gradient from roots to tips is very soft and even which gives it an airy feel and I’m a tiny bit obsessed with that on this fine hair. The bends in the waves don’t seem defined, which makes them seem way more difficult than they actually are. A sea salt spray and a bit of scrunching should do the trick.

#9: Ash Blonde Lob with Soft Undone Waves
At this length, ash blonde looks cool with little effort. The waves create a fuller look. If you have finer hair, and want to avoid that flat look with lighter hair, waves like these, are your best friends. The cut has some under layers that keep it from being too weighted at the bottom. Do keep in mind that ash tones require consistent purple shampoo so they don’t turn brassy!

#10: Sun-Kissed Collarbone Lob with Beachy Movement
The highlights in this hairstyle look super natural, as if your hair lightened on its own over the course of an entire summer. The length of this style is also perfect, as it sits just above the collarbone. This length gives you lots of movement and it also means it won’t get in your way. This is a great style choice if your hair is fine or medium, though it does need some styling. Those waves are going to need a bit of help because they probably won’t come together on their own. A light mousse before the blow dry, and a quick pass with a curling wand should do the trick.

#11: Vibrant Copper Lob with Loose Natural Waves
Here we are with another copper! I can never say no to this shade and I think it looks really beautiful at this length. The waves are also a bit looser and more natural than the other copper one which gives it a really different vibe, more relaxed and weekend-y. The warmth of this hue is very flattering against most skin tones and makes everything look more alive. You will want to invest in a color depositing conditioner to keep this shade from washing out as quickly as the other appointments.

#12: No-Fuss Brunette Lob with an Easy Off-Center Part
I would suggest this lob to someone who says, “ I just want a cut that works and I don’t want to think about it at all.” It’s neat and the asymmetrical style is achieved by the off center part, and the even thickness of the hair will keep it looking good all day without needing any styling. The upkeep is a cinch. With all due respect, this is a workhorse of a haircut.

#13: Golden Blonde Lob with Soft Graduation
This haircut has a graduation where it’s shorter in the back and longer in the front, which most people wouldn’t recognize, but makes a massive difference. This style helps to soften the wearer’s jawline a lot. The golden blonde waves add warmth and a softer feeling to the face. With this color, you’ll have to plan on a touch-up every 6-8 weeks because golden blonde shades tend to fade to a more yellow color.

#14: Clean Blonde Lob with Blunt Ends
This style is fresh and executive, and looks best when kept up super well. What really finishes off this style is that blunt line right at the bottom. The inner layers help reduce the rigidity. For fine to medium hair, this looks really nice and creates an impression of fullness with weight being held at the bottom. Your hair is going to look fabulous. Get those trims and don’t skip them!

#15: Effortless Wavy Lob with Soft Dimensional Color
I appreciate the impact of this hairstyle and the cut is still very nice. The waves look good in an imperfect way. The highlights are subtle enough to add depth but not obvious. The way everything comes together looks chill, which is a vibe I think a lot of people want these days. This cut works best for hair that is fine to medium in density because the layers and texture create more volume. This style can be achieved by using a curling wand on random sections of hair, not all of them.

#16: Glossy Deep Brunette Lob with Rounded Ends
The shine on this look is amazing and highlights the best features of this style. It’s polished and classically designed with a rounded shape and softly inward-curving ends, meaning it won’t look too strict or too old fashioned. This is the style for you if you have medium to thick hair and want a look that is effortless and put together right out of the shower. A good argan oil serum applied to the ends and mid-lengths of the hair before blow drying will achieve that look.

#17: Smooth Brunette Lob with Invisible Layering
The layers flow together nicely and give the hair that natural movement and swing, and the layers offer swings and sways to the movement of your hair, which seem almost invisible. The cut is perfect for someone wanting some dimension to their shape and style without being too obvious; it appears as if you have some naturally good hair. The shine tells me that whoever has this hair has been putting in the work so a smoothing cream and round brush situation at home would keep this looking exactly like this.

#18: Warm Brunette Lob with Gentle Bends
The beauty of this cut is that it can look different day-to-day based on how you style it. These soft waves are balanced in that they look both natural and intentional. The brunette color is warm and reflects light well, and the length is forgiving; it’s not too short or too long.

#19: Dark Chocolate Lob with Playful Textured Waves
I especially like this hairstyle for its unique and interesting texture. The waves really help highlight the dark chocolate color in the hair, and a straight style would be a lot more dull and boring. I recommend this hairstyle for people with medium to thick hair. This is because thinner hair does not have the necessary weight to keep the waves in. For this style, I would recommend using a one-inch curling iron and curling sections of your hair, alternating directions, and raking your fingers through the curls to break up the waves.

#20: Auburn Asymmetrical Lob with a Sleek Finish
The small asymmetry is pretty and it slightly distracts from the cut being completely symmetrical and also helps emphasize the jawline and elongate the neck. The auburn shade is warm but not too bright. The color is elegant and also provides a subdued autumnal color vibe, particularly with the straight hair and smooth finish, which indicates that this is a look that is best combined with a flat iron to achieve a very sleek and tidy appearance to the hair.

#21: Ombre Lob with a Soft Inward Curl
I appreciate the inward curls at the ends because they give a straight lob a more youthful and fresh look. I also like the ombre as it is done well; it is light and not a harsh line. The fine hair with layers creates an airiness that prevents the hair from looking flat. This is a lovely cut for looks that are playful but not juvenile. When using a round brush during blow drying, you can get that nice soft flip at the ends.

#22: Creamy Blonde Lob with Soft Layers and Movement
This light blonde shade is great because of its creamy blend that is not too warm or too icy and complements a variety of skin tones. The layering gives just enough movement to the hair to keep it looking alive without going overboard. The look is polished casual, if that makes sense. Very light blonde hair will require upkeep, and a good bond repair treatment every week or so will stop the texture from going dry and straw-like.

#23: Modern Textured Lob with a Soft Inward Flip
This minor detail alters the entire vibe of the cut. I like how it has retro-modern hybrid qualities that make it look like it could’ve existed in 1967, but also right now. Since it has subtle layers and an adaptable length, it maintains its form with little product, particularly on fine to medium hair. It also has an unusual ability to photograph well from every angle.

#24: Ultra-Sleek Blunt Lob with High Shine
When you choose to go sleek, go all the way. This is precision, the tips are blunt, the surface is silky, and the shine is almost reflective. It’s the kind of lob that looks fantastic at dinner, at a meeting, and to be honest, even at the grocery store because it looks super intentional. If your hair has any sort of natural wave or frizz, you’ll be needing a bit of help from a flat iron and some heat protectant spray to get it to this level of smoothness, and humidity is going to be your worst enemy, just saying.

#25: Polished Straight Lob with Warm Subtle Highlights
The highlights in this video appear very subtle and give off an impression of natural color variation in the hair. This is how highlights should look when done correctly. The hair style is clean and structured. Sitting above the shoulders and with medium and fine hair gives this a really nice sense of thickness without looking too heavy. This is an adult polished look which is suitable for almost any setting. In the humidity, a quick pass of a flat iron may be needed through it, but other than that maintenance is minimal.

#26: Wavy Lob with Soft Layers That Frame Everything Perfectly
When considering face-framing layers at the lob length, this is the style I would highlight as the prime example. The layers hit just right. They don’t protrude awkwardly, and instead of framing the face, they open everything up. The wave volume makes it ideal for medium to thick hair. The overall shape is bouncy and happy, which describes it well. It’s the kind of haircut that makes you want to toss your hair a lot.
