A textured long bob is a haircut that’s been around for quite some time, but each time it comes around, it feels fresh. This haircut sticks around season after season because it actually works. There is a perfect balance of length in this haircut. You won’t feel like you’ve lost a lot of hair when you leave the salon, and it is short enough that when you wake up in the morning, your hair just sort of does what it needs to do and falls into place. That balance is rare in haircuts, and people often underestimate how much that ease of styling actually matters in day-to-day life.
I remembered a client of mine who had been growing her hair out for three years. She came in for a trim, and she looked pretty defeated. The length was there, but the hair wasn’t doing anything for her. After we cut it into a textured bob, she looked shocked and kept touching her hair for the rest of the appointment. That is what this haircut does for you, it gives your hair a personality! I have a ton of great examples and I can’t wait to show them to you!

#1: Beachy Waves on a Long Bob
Let me explain. This styling job is doing about 40% of the work and the cut is doing about 60% and they are just in this perfect partnership. Waves here are loose and natural and not too contrived which is exactly what you want if you want that ‘I just came back from somewhere warm’ look. If you have medium to fine hair, a sea salt spray, damp scrunch and you’re good to go without even picking up a hot tool. The layers are just enough to add a little life without making it look too thin.

#2: Soft Waves with a Longer Front
I love that front section because it offers a very nice natural frame without looking too obvious. It’s a great way to break up the brown without committing to a salon trip every six weeks for regrowth maintenance. It’s perfect for those who want to go lighter without actually committing to highlights. The waves are really soft so i think it brings the whole look together. It just looks like great hair having a great day!

#3: Playful Curls on a Textured Lob
This texture is so nice!! I like how it has that curled look but does not look like an actual curling iron job (even if it is). The length just above shoulders is perfect because it still swings but also doesn’t get caught in your bag strap which is so annoying! The highlights woven throughout will soften everything around your face too. If your hair is medium to thick this is going to feel sooo nice and full on you!

#4: Sun-Kissed Waves on a Clean Lob
The balayage compliments your look beautifully! It adds a warm, sun-kissed glow that makes your hair look fresh from the beach. This cut also looks great as it falls cleanly to above shoulder length. I find that’s the most universally flattering spot for a lob. If you have fine hair, the layers might give the illusion that you have much more hair, which is pure magic. A curling wand will be needed for the bends, but it will probably take no more than ten minutes!

#5: Dimensional Highlights on a Wavy Lob
Your hair will look better than ever. It will be easy to wear and comfortable. The waves will look natural with a soft and effortless bend, and the lengths will not look stripey. The highlights are sure to be the perfect placement to add depth! I would consider this a “your hair, but better” situation. I’d say the hair is easy to style with the right density and wavy structure, and just medium products. Keep in mind the highlights will be needing some love and a visit to the salon every couple of months to stay fresh.

#6: Rich Tones with Beachy Movement
The warm tones are gorgeous, and I really like this one! The depth created by mixing a rich base and some subtle highlights is elevating the entire look and making it super luxe. The natural wave is doing most of the heavy lifting here, so this will be super easy to style as a day-to-day look if you have some good texture. It has that slightly above the shoulder length and that effortless movement to sit right where you want it to look like you really didn’t make any effort which is the whole point! If your hair is on the fine side, I would suggest putting some volumizing mousse at the roots to keep it from going too flat by the end of the day.

#7: Inward-Curled Layers That Frame the Face
I really love the end of this cut! The soft inward curl gives a polished look but not too done up and looks like you have naturally great hair. The modern soft face framing layers with the straight texture of the hair helps everything fall together more clean. This is a great cut that makes you look put together with little effort when you walk out the door.

#8: Defined Waves on a Modern Lob
These waves look more intentional than most other styles. The waves feel smooth and not too rigid. The stylist nailed it! This look will suit you best if you have medium to thick hair. This is because you will have the necessary density to support the wave pattern without it drooping by lunch. The cut is layered so it shouldn’t feel heavy but the movement through the mid lengths gives the entire style a pulse. It is true that this will take some effort and time to style, but the final result will absolutely be worth the time.

#9: Glossy Layers with Volume at the Ends
I really like the shine that is on the hair. It shows how healthy the hair is and how nice the haircut is. I love the gloss. The layers are fun, and the ends are well placed to have volume where we want it. The shape is nice too. Having the hair dense and straight is good because it will all fall into place. The cut is low maintenance and just a light product is needed for that gloss.

#10: Tousled Texture with Natural Highlights
This is definitely saying “I woke up like this and it just worked.” Typically, this means that someone made some heinously good decisions at some point. The messy waves look loose and free, the highlights are just warm enough to add a touch of warmth and dimension without being a whole ass thing. If you have finer hair, this style really helps to make it look like you have a ton of hair. There is a decent chance some styling is needed to achieve that lived-in texture (maybe some texturizing spray and some scrunching?), but it’s literally not anything you need to overthink it.

#11: Polished Waves on a Versatile Lob
This is a great option for hair that is medium to thick for a cut that feels elegant and effortless. Soft waves are placed to balance styled with effortless. The cut’s length with the face framing is nice, along with layers placed to prevent flat and boring. The best part about this cut is that it can be worn from day to night with zero styling, and is versatile enough to work for any occasion. I think that is such an underrated quality to a good haircut.

#12: Below-the-Collarbone Lob with Bounce
This style is a little longer than some other options, falling just below the collarbone, ideal for a lob vibe if you’re not ready to go any shorter. There is a natural wave in the hair which gives it a youthful easy bounce and with medium density, you have enough hair to work with without it feeling heavy. I would say this is particularly flattering if you have an oval or heart-shaped face, as it really emphasises the jaw line. Some days you might want to use a wand on the ends, other days, just leave it as it is.

#13: Airy Volume with Soft Highlights
What I love about this style is how floaty and lightweight the hair looks. It reminds me of the best cotton t-shirt and is a great hairstyle equivalent. This cut works especially great on medium to fine hair because it adds volume without creating the appearance of artificial hair fullness. And yes, this does also require some skill to achieve. The added highlights weave in and out to help show off the structure and depth of the cut and the highlights work well with the hair’s natural texture. You may need to encourage those waves depending on your natural texture, but it’s a quick and easy routine and shouldn’t take a lot of your time.

#14: Defined Waves with a Bit of Flair
This style gives the waves a better shape than other options as the waves are more defined and appear more intentional. This length hits just above the shoulder for optimal movement and gives the hair a healthy look full of volume. If your hair is fine to medium a lightweight styling cream will help hold the wave definition without weighing the hair down. If you want something a bit more polished than an undone lob this is a good option that is still modern and on trend.

#15: Collarbone-Length Waves with Natural Fullness
The hairstyle is a lob with soft waves and subtle layers which create movement and interest to the hair without being distracting. The length of this style is around the collar bone which allows the hair to flow and move freely. The overall density is full and gives a thick appearance without the actual weight. The texture is what good haircut should do and makes fine to medium hair look thick. To keep the lift and bounce on this style, use a light styling mousse on damp hair before blow drying.

#16: Warm and Cool Tones Blended Together
I enjoy the variety of colors used here. It manages to balance warm and cool tones in a way that creates contrast and depth without individual highlights. It feels sophisticated in a way that makes the color seem like it happened naturally. The cut is above the shoulders and the subtle layering at the front frames the face without getting in your eyes which sounds small but it means a lot. The waves might need some more definition but overall it just works.

#17: Sleek Movement with Polished Texture
This style aims to look effortless. The waves look light bends, not full blown waves. This keeps the style sleek while adding movement and life to the look. It gives hair body without a lot of product or effort. It works best on medium to fine hair. Achieving that balance of polished but not stiff is a great balance to hit. If you have natural waves, styling will be easy.

#18: Effortless Frame with Light Texture
Every frame will be different and the hair falling in an effortless kind of way is really nice. These waves are really soft and natural, and the light look is really pretty. The strands look a bit layered too, which adds texture, but not too much. If you keep going for trims, this is a really low maintenance option, though once the ends start splitting the look loses a lot of its polish.

#19: Face-Framing Layers with a Subtle Ombré
These face-framing layers are smart as they accentuate the features while remaining light and more subtle. The length is also easy to work with on a daily basis and because this is medium density hair, there’s enough body to sustain the style without it looking flat. The subtle ombré is a great touch as it gives a little variation in color at the ends without the commitment of a full color process. If your hair is naturally straight, you may want to add some waves with a wand from time to time, but the cut looks good without it.

#20: Gentle Balayage on a Textured Lob
It adds a lot of warmth, glow, and overall nice look to the style. The soft, blended, and gentle waves are combined with the color to give a fresh and modern effect. Also, this cut works best on medium to thick hair because you need enough hair to make the waves look full and more lush. So, if you are thinking of a color on a textured lob, this is the type of approach I would recommend because it grows out nicely and leaves no harsh lines.

#21: Sun-Kissed Warmth with Layered Volume
The warm-toned highlights achieve a lovely, sun-kissed effect that makes the cut look healthier and brighter overall. The layers here are great for creating volume in the mid-lengths and ends, which is ideal for a lob as it helps to keep the shape more interesting. If your hair is medium to thick, this will look especially good as that density really supports the waves and keeps them nice and full all day. The color will require a bit of maintenance to keep it looking fresh, but the style is pretty low maintenance.

#22: Natural Waves with Balanced Balayage
This look balances really well. Everything is proportioned and there are no distracting, competing elements. The natural waves frame the face and the balayage adds dimension, but it is not too much. The hair looks straight and medium density which means those waves are likely styled in. There appear to be natural waves in the hair that are so good the waves look like a natural part of the hair and you’d never guess that the hair had been styled. If your hair cooperates, you can achieve this look using a light styling product and a diffuser. Honestly, at this length, most hair types will be able to.

#23: Bouncy Curls on a Long Bob
The curl pattern here is really bouncy and defined in a fun, youthful way. I prefer a more curled look instead of a waved look. If you typically go for a looser texture, I think it’s worth trying. The shoulder length and curls give it the kind of energy that makes you want to shake your head and let it all loose. This will work especially well for medium to thick hair since you’ll have the density to really make it work! If you want to go for it, a balayage would add even more dimension to those curls.

#24: Soft Waves with Subtle Balayage
The waves are a perfect level of unfinished to give just enough body and movement without looking like you put effort into it. The balayage is warm and understated, giving great depth to the overall look without being the focal point. I appreciate this for finer hair as the cut creates the illusion of density and the length just above the shoulders is so much easier to manage. It may sound like a touch up is required for those waves with a wand every 2 days, but the truth is, this will require very low maintenance.

#25: Caramel Highlights with Easy Movement
I adore the highlights! They add dimension and softness to the style, making it look expensive. The way it’s done feels so natural like you’ve just twisted a few sections of your hair and let them fall. The cut looks amazing and your hair density (medium) gives an effortless volume which is fantastic. This is a great option for a modern and fresh look that’s not going to overhaul your entire morning routine.

#26: Natural Movement with Soft Highlights
I appreciate how the natural waves give an effortless nice movement. The highlights combined with the shoulder length waves give an effortless frame and depth to the face making this cut always flattering. For those wanting to change it up a touch adding slight asymmetry would be interesting and give a bit more of an editorial finish here. This cut is particularly good on oval and heart shape faces.

#27: Layered Lob with a Sun-Kissed Finish
The layers are doing exactly what they should, giving volume and movement without making the hair look thin or wispy. There is a natural wave that enhances texture and gives the whole style an effortless look. The balayage gives the hair an organically sun-kissed look. If you have medium to thick hair, this cut will give you the feeling that your hair has just improved at being hair. But you will need to keep up with your trims. Once those layers start growing out unevenly, the style will lose shape.

#28: Clean Waves with Effortless Movement
I like how neat this cut is. The lines are clean, the waves are nice and soft and even, and everything just looks perfectly casual. The above shoulder length keeps the cut nice and bouncy and the subtle layers give some added texture without losing fullness. This is a great option if you have fine to medium hair as it will give the appearance of the hair being more alive and full. You will need to touch up the waves some mornings, but on other days the waves will have held from the day before.

#29: Defined Waves with Natural Shine
I love that the definition of the waves is clear. The natural shine is healthy looking. With any hairstyle, this is half the battle. The length above the shoulders is universally flattering, and the medium density hair holds the style well. It is a really strong look even without color. I think a subtle color treatment, which is an option to consider, would add some depth. This cut will create a lot of volume for you if your hair is fine.

#30: Gentle Waves with Balayage Depth
I think the waves look more like a bend than a curl, which makes them feel even more natural and more wearable! Paired with the balayage highlights, which adds even more dimension and movement to the hair color, the waves produce a multi-dimensional effect. With the fine to medium density, just gives the hair that voluminous look, but without being bulky. If you want to recreate this look at home, a flat iron will probably give you the soft bend you’re looking for more easily than a curling iron will. You just have to twist the iron as you pull through the ends!

#31: Effortless Volume with Playful Texture
This look has a fun vibe. The hair’s done in a simple relaxed wave, with soft fullness in the mid-lengths. This warmth and energy is youthful. This shoulder-length cut is ideal for showing off all that texture while framing the face softly and it’s not boring either. If your hair is of the medium thickness it’s perfect since the density gives movement and shape to the style throughout the day. The layers create natural volume and movement without losing weight and to me, that’s the best of both worlds.

#32: Easy Waves with a Polished Finish
Cute describe it as a casual clean cut type of look which is perfect for looking good without leaving the house for hours. It has soft gentle waves that are above the shoulders which is most flattering to all face shapes. It works nicelty for hair that is medium to fine texture as it requires less volume than more thick hair cutting it shorter. All that is required is to spend some time with a curling wand to create the waves, and to not have crunch hold spray you will need a flexible hold spray to not have crunch.

#33: Airy Balayage with Layered Movement
The perfect positioning of the balayage adds depth and texture in a simple and thoughtful way. The layers created movement and balance, resulting in an airy effect on the hair; almost as if it were having a good day. Its fine to medium density is ideal as less hair is needed for the style to appear full; the layers and colour do the work for you. While the style needs some polishing, it does not require much maintenance besides a little strategic upkeep.

#34: Modern Layers with Subtle Color Depth
The soft layering on this cut is exquisite for adding movement, and while they mix together to give a seamless appearance, they also add enough texture to keep the style from being one dimensional. The length which just grazes the shoulders is great for styling, especially to showcase those lovely natural waves, while the subtle balayage lifts the overall look beyond a single process color, adding more interest and dimension. These layers will add more fullness and dimension to fine to medium-density hair and routine trims will keep those layers looking intentional and not just grown out.

#35: Full Waves That Frame the Face
These waves provide great volume to hair which is perfect for medium and thick hair types. They blend softness and presence, giving them a great ability to stand out and not simply blend into the hair. They are making a statement with this look. The length just above the shoulders helps to showcase the waves more and the hair movement around the face really softens the look in a very flattering way. This style requires some maintenance every few weeks to keep the shape where you want it, but the reward is a more fresh look, always.

#36: Natural Movement on a Clean Cut
The cut is very clean, with sharp lines, and the movement looks really natural. It helps to create that nice balance between softness and structure. Most will find that the shoulder length is quite flattering, and here the fine texture gets plenty of support from the soft layers, as they provide dimension without adding any weight. For those with fine hair, a root lifting spray will be helpful to maintain volume during your blow dry. The cut does a lot of the work for you.

#37 Waves with Depth and Brightness
The cut and highlights are working in such a way that neither would be as good without the other. Highlighting and cutting waves gives a definable softness and the highlights balance the brightness and depth. Because the hair is of medium density, nothing looks too thin or thick. Additionally, the soft layers that fall over the jaw are flattering for oval and heart shaped faces. The hair will need a product; for this style, a light hold mousse on damp hair will allow the defined waves to stay in place. It is a styled routine.

#38 Asymmetric Lob with Dimensional Color
I really like the subtle asymmetry here! Most people will miss the intentional lack of symmetry and assume the cut looks nice. The highlights look really good with that medium density wavy texture, and being above the shoulder keeps it fresh and easy to manage. For those nervous about going shorter, this is a great starter cut. It keeps enough length while giving a lot of the benefits of a shorter cut in terms of movement and manageability.

#39 Rich Chestnut Texture with Body
The chestnut color is rich and warm. The addition of waves elevates the entire look, making it more luxe than if it were flat single-process color. The waves help add fullness to hair that might seem fine and the overall look is polished. The length of the hair is above the shoulders, making it easy and manageable if you have a busy schedule, though it also looks like you put thought into it. If you have naturally straight or thick hair, you’ll probably have to add those waves on purpose. However, the cut is going to look great, either way.

#40 Sleek Graduation with Natural Volume
I really like the subtlety and the graduation in this cut. The way the ends have that natural volume without looking dated and layered is brilliant. And with the cut being clean and professional, it also has personality, which I think is a hard balance to strike. If you have fine to medium hair, the graduation is just what you need for that fullness you want without having to do a ton of styling. This is a smart cut for someone who wants a polished look in a professional environment but is also not looking to spend a lot of time on it.

#41 Playful Waves with Warm Highlights
This cut will make your natural waves look styled, and air drying your hair will look good with this cut as well. The highlights are warm and will compliment a variety of skin tones. The fullness of the hair looks more natural than chunky. If you have a round or oval face this cut will be very flattering as the waves will soften your features. The way you style and dry your hair will change the look of the cut, which is a good thing.

#42 Relaxed Waves Below the Shoulders
The casual appeal of natural waves is something many people look for. Hair that falls around the collarbone and shoulders gives a little more length to work with. Hair with a fine to medium density allows for more versatility since it won’t be weighed down like thicker hair often is. Perhaps the most fitting way to describe this hairstyle would be “I just kind of threw it together.” To really lean into the idea that this hair isn’t going to be styled much, grab a texturizing product, work it through damp hair, and you’re good to go!

#43 Brunette Waves at the Collarbone
A brown lob is one of those styles that will always look good. Soft waves bring some movement to the look, while the collarbone length keeps it light and flattering on most. The stylist has selected a fine to medium density which adds some lightness to the look and makes it easier to style. This look works with a solid color as well, but a balayage would really bring out the waves and texture.

#44 Vibrant Copper with Effortless Texture
I’ve been thinking about changing my hair as well, which is always a good indicator that the color is doing its job. The warmth and vibrancy of the color really adds a breathtaking dimension to the waves. The shoulder length cut will beautifully frame the face, and with that density cut, the movement is going to be lovely. The thing about vibrant colors like these is that you might need to use some color depositing shampoo to maintain it if you wash your hair a lot. But, having a fresh color is good enough motivation to go through the hassle.

#45 Chocolate Lob with Easy Waves
The deep chocolate hue also adds dimension, making this cut more intriguing than it would look in a lighter shade. A darker tone is often overlooked for a lob, while it can really enhance the overall look. Darker tones also display the wave textures differently; the shadows and light contrast more than the highlights, creating a more elegant effect. The medium density nicely completes the shape and the subtle layering allows the cut to feel nice and light. This is a wash and go type of cut where you can leave your hair as is and it’ll still look fantastic.

#46 Shoulder-Length Texture with Smart Layering
Skillfully cut face framing layers are easy to miss. And it is likely that you will simply see the style overall and not be able to determine what the individual elements are. That’s good layering. Wavy textures and natural shine coupled with a healthy, vibrant look result in versatile style at shoulder length. These layers suit fine to medium hair best as they will give a fuller look without creating excess weight. On most days, a light styling product applied to damp hair is probably all you need.

#47 Ash Blonde Waves with Modern Edge
I like the way the ashy blonde shades offer an updated, more editorial feel to the cut. Blond shades can run in several directions, but ashy tones are cooler and lend the cut a more edgy, intentional vibe. The subtle waves and layered texture (which works beautifully on fine to medium hair) add volume and really enhance the overall look. The color will require maintenance with brassiness-control toners and purple shampoo, but the look is fabulous, and that’s the price of the upkeep.

#48 Textured Lob with Playful Bangs
Bangs on a textured lob are a total transformation! They add playfulness and a lovely touch to your overall appearance, and how you style them really shows off your personality! Adding this warm brown base color and warm tonal highlights invites your audience in to look at the style. The waves create even more movement and softness throughout the lengths. I’ll be honest with you, though. Bangs are high maintenance. You are going to be in for a bang trim every 3-4 weeks to keep them out of your eyes and looking fresh. If you’re ready for the commitment, bangs on a lob are super flattering!

#49 Warm Curls with Volume and Dimension
I believe what sets this style apart is the way the soft curls are more defined than your typical beach wave. The warm tone will flatter just about any skin tone, and the curls add so much beautiful movement that the whole cut seems to come alive. The volume will look very natural and full if your hair is medium to thick, but without being too much. The layers around the face are particularly doing something really nice for heart-shaped faces because they soften and frame the face. Getting the curls this defined will take some work, but once you establish your routine, getting those curls to look this defined will be pretty automatic.

#50 Lob with Bangs and Gentle Waves
I think bangs look amazing paired with a textured lob and this is another great example. Here the bangs are face framing instead of blunt, so they are softer and more versatile for a wider range of face shapes. The subtle waves create some length movement nice lightness to the hair, which has a fine to medium density. The combination of bangs and soft layers is very face highlighting, especially the eyes, and is a pretty effect. If your hair is on the thicker side, you might need to thin the bangs a little to get them to sit right, but that’s nothing a regular appointment won’t be able to fix.

#51 Copper Waves with Layered Lightness
Another copper?! Honestly? I’m not mad about this shade because it is so beautiful and I love looking at it. The subtle layering is what makes it work, giving the waves this light, airy quality. The color is rich and saturated, so it may keep the cut from feeling heavy. The shoulder length frames the face gorgeously and the medium density is ideal for this style because it has enough body to hold the wave, but not so much that it overwhelms the cut. If you have naturally darker hair and are thinking about a copper, keep in mind that getting here may take a few sessions depending on where you’re starting from, and you’ll have to invest in a good color-safe conditioner to keep it looking vibrant.
