The first time I heard the term ‘teddy bear bronde’, I thought it was some sort of internet joke, like was there some Build-A-Bear collaboration I missed? Viewing photos on social media, it began to make sense. This color definitely sits perfectly in the center of the blonde and brunette color spectrum, and offers a warm hue with a natural glow and an “I woke up like this.” vibes.
A hallmark of this color is that it doesn’t require a long time in the salon, and I’ve done a lot of colors like this. My favorite bronde color was on a client who kept cancelling her appointments. When she finally came in, the grow out worked in her favor. My philosophy is that with this color, it should look a bit messy and sun kissed and like you just woke up. Of course, we know you didn’t just wake up! Out of all the examples that I could find of this color, I will post some of my favorites and the ones that I think represent a good spread of shades. I will be honest about each of these colors; some will have more depth and dimension than others.
#1: Sleek Layers That Let the Color Do the Talking
I admit that restraint is not my strong suit, but when it works, it really works. The cut is medium length with a more relaxed type of layering that just gives enough shape to the hair, so that it has some bounce to the hair when she moves. What I really like is how the bronde reads here because the hair is so smooth and reflective. On fine to medium density hair like this, you get that mirror-like quality, so the color of the hair really shifts, and the color of the hair is doing most of the work. You would want to keep those layers trimmed every six to eight weeks or they’ll lose their purpose pretty quickly.
#2: Airy Bronde Waves That Basically Style Themselves
I get it, maybe it is a bit of self promotion, but the waves are soft and not too overdone and the bronde is just right as the highlights are peeking just enough at the base color like afternoon light from a window. This looks like a beautiful frame for oval and heart shaped faces especially since the layers don’t feel too heavy, and float around the face. If your hair has some natural movement, you’re already halfway there. No curling iron needed.
#3: Big Layers, Bright Pieces, Maximum Payoff
When someone asks how to make their hair look fuller, this is probably the style I would show them. The long layers really do give the hair more volume, and the face-framing highlights do that thing where they warm up the complexion and make it look more alive. I’m not going to pretend this is not a commitment; those bright pieces around the face will need maintenance, and if you leave them for too long they will look less intentional and more neglected. But when those pieces are fresh, it is one of those styles that will make you catch your reflection and smile.
#4: Straight Bronde with Quiet Layers
Simple looks can be great, and this is a perfect example. The goal was to have soft layers so the ends don’t end up looking too heavy and blunt. I have to say, the shine is what really makes this work. With medium density hair, the bronde shade is almost a caramel color which makes it look extra nice and sleek. It takes the edge off of sharper jaw lines without having to do too much with the cut, and that’s great, not everyone is wanting a drastic change. They just want their hair to look like the best version of what it already is. A good smoothing serum works wonders with this style!
#5: Warm Waves That Know What They’re Doing
I am usually a fan of this particular style with bronde because the waves will enhance the color dimension in a way that straight hair just cannot achieve. The length sits just below the shoulders, which is that universally flattering zone I’m always trying to sell people on, and the layers give it just enough body that it doesn’t fall flat by lunchtime. The warm tones with subtle highlights feel really natural here. The only thing I’ll note is that waves like these need some moisture to look soft and not frizzy, so a good leave-in conditioner after every wash is key.
#6: Long and Flowing with That Expensive-Looking Shine
When I present customers with a picture of the hairstyle they’re interested in, they usually say, “this, I want this.” I have to tell them that that is mostly genetics. In addition, having thick, healthy hair helps that photo look good, along with using good hair products. This photo has great hair. The waves look relaxed and flowing, and the layers are just enough so they don’t break up the length too much. This hairstyle is wonderful for oval and heart-shaped faces. If you want to keep that color, you will have to go to the salon frequently for touch-ups. #7: Sun-Touched Texture with Real Depth
The bronde color looks like you just got back from a wonderful trip and your hair magically looks better. The color has great depth and dimension to it and also gives the hair an overall defined look without needing lots of highlights. If the color is bronde then medium density hair is ideal, because you also get nice hair bounce without too much bulk. If the face is more angular and trying to soften it, then this hair kind of loose wave does it perfectly. Ideally I would go for a sea salt spray to hold that texture between washes.
#8: Soft Bronde with Face-Framing Layers That Actually Earn Their Keep
Face framing layers are one of my favorites, especially when the purpose behind them is clear (and not just random layers put in because one saw it on TikTok). These are meant to be layered to draw the eye inwards towards the features. With hair of this finer texture, the layers help movement in the hair without sacrificing any of the density you have. The highlights are done in a very soft way, catching light in just the right spots. It’s the type of cut that gives you the impression that you put no effort into it, but you actually did. It was just a great direction to achieve this. The color will have to be touched up frequently to keep the look bright and seamless, so keep that in mind when planning.
#9: Warm-Cool Bronde with Layered Movement
I appreciate this tone! The bronde combines both warm and cool tones that give the hair an iridescent effect in certain lights. A colorist who knows how to balance undertones achieved this. The long layers and mid-density of these flows create a lovely cascading effect and maintain the hair looking healthy and full without too much weight. It’s especially complementary to oval or heart shapes faces. The tonal work is blended fantastically, so your touch-ups will be very meticulous, so find someone you trust to do your hair and stay loyal to them.
#10: Beachy Bronde That Photographs Ridiculously Well
Every time I do a bronde like this one, I have to say watching my client take a selfie as soon as they get to the parking lot is probably the biggest compliment I can get. The highlights are just the right amount to pop, the texture is beautiful, and the style nails the look. Personally, I think the style is the most flattering on oval and heart face shapes because the waves give the cheeks more width, but it works for most face shapes. You will want to get some color safe shampoo and conditioner to protect this beautiful color.
#11: Defined Waves with That Golden Hour Glow
This bronde hairdo highlights a little secret about super fine hair. The waves are softer and look purposefully messy. The blonde highlights create a golden-hour glow that’s nearly impossible to resist. The volume is also extremely natural, and this look especially flatters oval and heart-shaped faces because of how it frames. It’s also ageless, which is something I always appreciate way more than most of the trendy options. With this look, the color will take more maintenance but the cut will allow you to fade the upkeep a lot.
#12: Rich Dimension on Mid-Length Waves
This has a really lovely combination of colors. Rather than just using one shade of “bronde,” (brown-blonde), there are warmer shades layered over cooler tones along with something almost honey-like. Because of that, it all really comes together. Also, the mid-length cut looks polished and intentional. The texture adds a lot of playfulness, which is a balance that I always aim for. The ideal hair type is medium to thick. A good density is needed for all the tonal layers to really show. You will definitely need to do color touch ups regularly for this, but the final result is worth all the effort!
#13: Long Textured Waves with a Warm, Glowy Frame
The light face-framing highlights are perfect to go with the hair. Getting foils done to frame your face may seem obvious, but these highlights are subtle enough to just be warm to the face. Fine hair also gets that boost of volume and movement, which is especially nice when the length and texture add to it. This is a versatile hair look that can definitely work for any season. My only comment is that the wavy texture does require a bit of commitment in the mornings. If you’re a wash and go type of person, you’re looking at about ten extra minutes of work with your styling wand.
#14: Balayage Bronde That Grows Out Gracefully
This balayage is doing what it is supposed to do and what so many others miss, which is the sun done it look. The shoulder length and the soft wave also keeps the look modern without being too trendy that in 6 months it will be dated. This will work best for those with medium to thick hair as there will be more than enough surface area for those hand painted pieces to really shine. If you like to wait a little longer between appointments, this is a good option for you since balayage is more forgiving for grow outs than traditional highlights.
#15: Cascading Bronde Waves with Real Movement
Let me tell you why my clients adore these bronde waves! Look at how soft and classy these waves are. The simplicity of these waves make them look expensive and high end, and these waves are done on medium to thick hair the weight of the hair in a controlled way to keep the waves from going too crazy, while still having bouncing waves. Those with fine hair may just need to apply a volumizing mousse to achieve this look. The color looks good on everyone. The highlights woven throughout the hair create dimension and fullness. That is the goal of all my work and I’m happy when my clients appreciate this.
