A last client of mine who was nervous about going shorter told me, “I just don’t want to look like I’m trying too hard or like I’ve given up.” And to be honest, that was the entire shag conversation post 60. There’s a sweet spot where the cut does most of the work for you. And it’s the spot where you can wake up and your hair has something happening. Some texture, some movement, something that looks intentional about the way it is styled.
I’ve always been drawn to soft shags, but I’ve really started noticing them more since a long time client of mine returned after chemo with completely different hair than what she had before. It will add movement to it and frame your face nicely because it is perfect for oval face shapes and medium density wavy hair. The bangs will need daily styling and this won’t work if the hair is coarse and straight and just hangs.

A must for this haircut is daily heat styling and some product to shape it, as the cut will lose form very easily throughout the day. This cut is not recommended for very coarse hair that does not bend into that nice smooth rounded shape and looks good for fine to medium textured hair. The crux of th technique here us definitely in the feathering shears.
