While going through the past year’s styles from my clients, I saw an interesting phenomenon that made me laugh. Achieving this level of smoothness will require round brush blow drying and blending regrowth will require periodic root shadow or gloss treatments to blend the auburn regrowth. Not everyone would notice these things, but it fills me with joy as an artist. Everything is looking good – chin length, feathered, short bob with curtain bangs and internal nape gradation, warm copper root shadow, and so on. There’s also that small diagonal behind the ear layer that provides a very subtle outward flip, and makes the entire silhouette a lot more flattering. On oval faces, it adds width in just the right spot. This shape really allows fine to medium textures of straight hair to get great definition and lift around the jaw. Some selective glazing (plus root lift products) will be needed for red and copper tones, but the end result will be very interesting and polished.

To get the most out of this cut, I would say to use a light mousse to create wave, hold and texture in the hair, but it is a super low fuss and low maintenance look. That is the point.

A lot of my clients are concerned about losing their silver hair, but I try to remind them that silver hair can be an incredible style choice, and this cut is proof. The maintenance is clean, and regular trims are all that are needed to maintain the ends looking clean and sharp. Blunt cuts also have nowhere to hide when the grow uneven. But that a small price to pay for something like this.

This style works really well for fine to medium density hair because it generates an authentic fullness all by itself without any product. The adaptable layering means this style works on most face shapes and you can adjust how much face-framing you prefer. I’d recommend a lightweight styling cream to keep that shape, because the fluff can go from intentional to messy by 3 pm without help.

When it comes to fine and medium dense hair the whole style leaves lots of air. The slices are excellent. Once the layers grow, you’ll have to stay on top of maintenance to keep them from blending too much.
