25 Best Side-Swept Pixie Cuts That Are Making a Statement

Looking to express yourself in a bold way? Side-swept pixie cuts are edgy and stylish while also being a great option for individuals looking for a significant change! When it comes to this haircut trend, there are plenty of styles, such as asymmetrical, longer cuts, and tousled styles. Check out 25 of the most stylish and inspiring side-swept pixie cuts.

Let’s be honest here, almost nobody (except me) understands the importance of hair sweep direction when it comes to sliced pixie cuts. I had a client last year who came in with a super sick Pinterest photo of a swoopy pixie, but she didn’t consider the fact that she would be actively trying to reposition the cut in a way that would be completely opposite to the style. This ended up necessitating a complete re-cut of the entire cut to get everything aligned with her natural hair direction, and it looked ten times better. Things like hair fall direction, growth patterns, and similar characteristics tell which way hair should be cut. So in most cases, hair is already trying to give you directions.

I also appreciate how the look can be so WILDLY and super customizable when considering the hair texture and length. Two people could come in asking for a similar side-swept pixie cut, and they will walk out with such different haircuts. Some people will walk out with a textured messy look and others will leave with curled freakin’ perfection! So, join me on a journey through 25 of my all-time favorite and most-sick pixie cuts. I have strong opinions about all of them and an equally strong need to describe them.

Modern Side-Swept Pixie with Textured Layers

#1: Textured Layers with That Perfect Auburn Sweep

I want to reach out and touch the screen to feel the layers and the way they move. It looks thick and luscious. I can’t even describe the color besides that it’s an obsesses auburn that looks like warm balayage. It looks warm and catches me off guard. The longer pieces hold it while the shorter pieces trap it. If you have fine hair, you’ll want to ensure you have ample layers throughout because this will give you the illusion of having a lot more hair. This is the type of haircut that really almost pulls itself together.

#2: Playful Waves on a Side-Swept Pixie

When a customer wants to get a pixie cut but is hesitant about going that short, I suggest this style. This cut retains enough length at the top so that the customer can style it however they want. Plus, the cut includes soft waves so they won’t have to put in much work to style it. To help you not hide behind the hair, there are side bangs that frame the face. Most importantly, the cut looks intentional and good with just some air drying and a scrunch with mousse. Because of the movement from the different lengths and layers, it looks good. People will definitely notice and compliment you by asking if you did something different with your hair.

#3: Curly Girls, This Pixie Is for YOU

Chop can be scary for those with natural waves or curls, and that’s completely understandable, but let’s break it down. THIS CUT is showing us that with the right technique, curly wavy pixie cuts can be absolutely incredible. A huge part of this cut is that the stylist went WITH the curl pattern instead of going against it. Because of that, the hair sits perfectly, and the natural top volume is all there, no blowout is needed. This will definitely be a breath of fresh air for those who are exhausted from spending 45 minutes to achieve the same look with a diffuser. Just keep in mind that short wild curls will need a good curl-defining cream, so don’t forget that, and that’s all you need for your routine!

#4: Undercut Pixie That Means Business

Wow I love the attitude with this style – the edgy undercut is awesome! The longer pieces on top make it feel less extreme, which is honestly the sweet spot that a lot of my clients look for. The cut really works well with fine, straight hair because it gives that sleek, sculpted finish. I love the versatility too! During the week, you can have it polished by slicking it over, then on the weekend you can switch it up and have it all messy. Just a heads up, the undercut will need a trim every 3 to 4 weeks or it will look grown out, and that’s a commitment you’ll need to be ready for!

#5: Piece-y Layers with a Strong Jaw Moment

I really appreciate the way these layers are cut, with each breaking up into clear, defined sections. That detail is intentional and only a good stylist with a razor or some point cutting technique would know how to achieve that. And I love not having to pretend that a cut is being soft and feminine or hard and edgy. This is right in the middle cool. Plus the wave, which is completely natural, gives such good dimension with literally no hot tools used. For strong jawlines, this is the type of cut that says, “Yeah, I know” instead of trying to hide it.

#6: Clean and Fresh Side-Swept Pixie

I would describe this as a ‘gateway pixie’ and I mean that in the best way possible! It is short enough to feel like a genuine change but not too short where you panic in the parking lot before you take a look. The finish is clean and soft almost like a longer men’s style. The side bangs do a good job keeping it feminine without being over the top. Perfect for someone who wants to wake up, run their fingers through it, maybe add just a little bit of matte paste for grip and walk right out the door! Keep up with trims…this style shape will lose a defined edge once it grows out a little.

#7: Rich Chocolate Curls on a Cropped Pixie

I don’t know about you, but I’m obsessed with this color. The chocolate base is super deep and rich—so good! It makes the curls look 3D, like they have a shadow and highlight effect. Personally, I think the texture of the cut is really nice. The sides are nice and tight, which I think really contrasts with the top where the curls are free and more defined. If your curl patterns are on the looser side, you might need to use some curl enhancing gel to get the curls to look tighter, but if that’s the case, this is basically wash and go.

#8: The “I Woke Up Like This” Pixie

The slight asymmetry in this cut is what makes it pop. One side is cut a bit longer, giving it an editorial feel without being too out there. And the extra volume at the crown is fantastic. Getting volume on top of a pixie cut takes effort, and that’s the first thing I hear from pixie clients once they wash it at home. This cut will be a dream for those with straight to wavy hair as the texture will work seamlessly. Just a bit of product at the roots and you’re good to go!

#9: Subtle Undercut with a Killer Jawline

I can see people staring at your cheekbones in photos. They’re going to want to touch their own jaws and ask, “Cheekbones? Do I have them?” I appreciate that self control. The undercut peeks out just enough here in the cut. It adds interest without being the whole personality of the whole cut. Did you notice the color gradient? It adds depth to the whole thing that a single solid color would lose. The wave and the texture are preventing it from being too edgy, which is the hardest balance with undercut styles.

#10: Volume Queen Side-Swept Pixie

If you have fine hair, don’t be afraid to go shorter, IT WILL NOT LOOK FLAT. JUST LOOK AT THIS CUT. This is fine hair done RIGHT. Layers are stacked to create fullness and the side sweep pushes everything up, maximizing volume rather than letting it fall limp. The slight wave is helpful, and even if your hair is pin straight, a few passes with a mini flat iron to bend the ends would achieve this look. This cut looks more high maintenance than it is, which is the best kind of haircut to recommend.

#11: Wispy Texture with a Soft Wave Up Front

So much about this look is worth appreciating. I especially like the softer and more delicate touch of the little wave at the front. Overall, the delicate look is achieved with the layered cut that looks very wispy. For this type of minimalistic and classically designed style, this is an excellent recommendation. Overall, there seems to be a lot of personality and pizazz with this hairstyle. I just don’t know how you could ever find something that looks better for an easier to style effort.

#12: Sun-Kissed Highlights on a Textured Pixie

These highlights are doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing on a short cut! They are catching light and creating movement even when you’re not moving. Many people skip color on pixies because it’s assumed that there isn’t enough hair to make it worth it, and that is exactly the case with this look. Subtle highlights on short hair might be more impactful than long hair because every single piece is visible. The textured layers give those waves on top somewhere to go and the overall effect is really youthful and fresh. If you are considering adding a little dimension to your pixie, bring this to your colorist!

#13: Low-Maintenance Pixie for Busy People

If someone was asking me for an opinion about a hairstyle, I’d say this one is perfect for someone who wants something cute and needs something quick and easy to do. It has a lot of personality, and the length is short enough that you’re not fighting with the hair in the morning. Most of the work is already done, but you just have to push it in the right direction to get it to sit how you want with a bit of product. I think this style is even better because the side-swept bangs are gently done and the angle is not extreme so it will not be annoying to grow out like a heavy long sweeping bang.

#14: Cropped and Defined with Serious Shine

WOW look at the SHINE! I don’t know if that’s great shine spray, or exceptional hair. Either way, I love it! I also love the contrast between the longer, textured top, and the close-cropped sides. It gives such a cool visual balance. The texture on top is not messy, it looks editorial. This is a going out pixie for sure. This is hair you wear when you want to people to see you got your hair done.

#15: Soft Waves You Can Do with a Curling Wand

While I do appreciate the natural waves, I can almost guarantee that a small barrel curling iron has also been used here and that is not a negative by any means! The waves are also too evenly distributed to be a completely organic means, and I would like to think that means if YOUR hair does not do this naturally, you can still do this and achieve this style! The method most likely is wrapping small sections around the iron, letting them cool, and then finger combing them apart. This type of style is also great if you want to look like you put in a lot of effort, which is great for pixie cuts! I especially like this style because it works for any side-swept pixie cut.

#16: Highlighted Pixie That Frames Everything Perfectly

I admire the intention behind the highlight placements. Look at the highlights on the face framing layers and the layers on top. Those are not random. Those are placements from a colorist who knows what they are doing. With shorter hair, the highlights act almost like contouring. The textured layers keep it from looking like a helmet which is what I worry about the most when clients want a short pixie. The overall effect is light and airy. This is the type of cut where less is more. It looks so good already, so just don’t over style it.

#17: Sleek and Simple Side-Swept Pixie

Some haircuts deserve a finger gun and this is one of them. An uncomplicated pixie cut that has wonderful movement is just a fantastic style. She does not need anything more than this. The layers are soft, the sweep is light, and everything about this cut is an effortless combination. If you have been worried about your fine hair and how it will look layered in a shorter cut, this look will help put your mind at ease. The layering is soft on purpose and does not create drama, just an overall clean polished cut.

#18: Relaxed Wavy Pixie with a Glow

I cannot stop admiring how the light shines off your highlights. The waves give the impression of a “I just got back from a tropical vacation” relaxed kind of look. That relaxed vibe can easily be ruined by overdoing it with the waves. If your hair already has waves, you are lucky. Now all you have to do is let your hair do all the work. The waves will give the impression like they’re meant to be there. If you have thick hair, this hairstyle is going to be a challenge unless you ask your stylist to use thinning shears.

#19: Asymmetrical Edge with Subtle Texture

This haircut radiates ‘cool girl’ energy and I can’t wait to show it off! I love that the longer side gives it that intentional modern look rather than just “growing out.” The texture isn’t overdone and lets the cut do the talking; she really nailed it! I love suggesting asymmetrical pixie cuts to clients who want something edgy, but have to work in environments that don’t allow full undercuts or wild colors. With the utmost respect, this is “professional rebel” hair. You just need some flexible hold hairspray to keep the sweep in place and you’re all set!

#20: Polished Pixie with Textured Bangs That Stay Put

For a clean and professional look at work, this is the pixie for you. The sleek look of the cut is very professional and the textured bangs are the perfect amount that keeps it from being too corporate. Since the length is only about 1-2 inches, not much time should be spent on styling. Keep in mind, daily styling is a must for it to look that polished. Don’t anticipate putting in a lot of work, smoothing product and a flat iron should do the trick.

#21: Glossy Side-Swept Pixie That Commands Attention

This haircut really shines! What products did they use? That is what good lighting, healthy hair, and sleek cuts look like. You don’t have to go to a salon for a hair gloss, I think every pixie owner should try it. Every strand is visible, and there is no where for damage to hide. The cut looks really clean. I love the vibe of “I know who I am.” The side sweep is really bold and confident, so it’ll definitely read as a short cut. If you like the look of polished and bold, take a screenshot!

#22: Soft and Bright Side-Swept Pixie

I love how you have combined this cut with such a lovely light color. It really brightens up the entire look. Many clients picking out a pixie cut don’t realize how much impact the color choices make in the end. I love the softness this has. The gentle volume and the movement creating layers are so beautiful. I know this sounds crazy, but not every pixie is this cute in every light. If you’ve ever taken a selfie with a bad haircut, you’ll get it. If you want to go light on a pixie cut, and your hair is darker, you’ll need to have a talk about maintenance because short hair and roots is a quick turn around.

#23: Effortless Layers with Natural Movement

The natural waves here are effortless and flattering. These thin layers are tossed in a way that makes it look as if she has spent thirty seconds styling it, which with a well cut pixie, she likely did. It gives the impression of a perfect balance with the length, so she doesn’t feel “too short” but it’s still firmly in pixie territory. I like that this cut isn’t overworked— no wacky extreme angles or excessive layering, just a nice cut that works with the natural movement of the hair. This is a great example of how the simplest take on a style is often the best.

#24: Silver Side-Swept Pixie That’s All Confidence

We need to take a moment to appreciate how stunning silver hair is on pixie cuts, because THIS IS IT! The silver color is gorgeous beyond words, and with soft layers and a side sweep? *Chef’s kiss.* I’ve had tons of clients of all ages, and many have started to either embrace their natural silver hair, or opt for a silver color, and let me tell you, a pixie cut is one of the best choices for this because it really allows the silver to take center stage while the cut adds all the focus and contrast. The movement from the layers really adds to the whole look and doesn’t overwhelm the gorgeous silver. If you’re considering going for a silver hair color, then you need a good purple shampoo. Trust me, with how much work it is to keep the silver from getting yellow, you don’t want to do all that work and just end up with yellow hair.

#25: Elegant Silver Pixie with Graceful Movement

When talking about silver pixies, here’s another beauty but with a completely different VIBE. This one is more ELEGANT, like “going to a gallery opening” elegant, and I think it’s so cool how the same basic concept of silver plus pixies plus side sweep can look this different just because of the way the layers are shaped and styled. The side bangs are very soft and intentional, and the layering is so smooth from front to back. If your hair is thin by nature, pay attention to how this is styled to look fuller than it actually is, and that’s just from the blowout direction, and drying it with lift at the roots. A volumizing spray would work magic with this look.
