Side-swept pixie cuts give people the confidence to try new things with their hair. Just last month a customer came to me for a cut. It was the first time she would be changing her hair since 2011! It was clear she had been uncomfortable with her long hair for a long time, but she was nervous about going short. When I suggested a side-swept pixie she said “I don’t want to look like I’m trying too hard,” which was ironic because what she truly needed was a good pixie! Once the cut was done she loved it so much she sent me a selfie every day. Moments like this remind me why I love what I do!
What’s great about side-swept pixie cuts is that you don’t have to do much with your hair in the morning because you’ll have that polished look that allows the cut to style itself. Plus, with the short hair, you won’t be stuck fighting with it every day, so you have one less thing to worry about as you head out the door. Find a style that you feel makes you the best version of yourself because there is no right or wrong with hairstyles.

#1: That Tousled Pixie That Looks Like You Didn’t Even Try (But You Did, A Little)
This look is so good!! Just by looking at it, you are able to tell that it is more on the natural side and that it would take a while for people to achieve this. The layers give the look movement so it can look like you have really cool hair (even though it is effortless). The lighter tips at the end are meant to give a contrast to the look and help it make it more textured. For this look, you will need a texturising spray to keep that intentional look and it will take you less than 90 seconds to get it.

#2 The Volume-On-Top Pixie That Just Makes You Feel FUN
I like it because it has that little bit of “oomph” right where you want it, on top. The volume at the crown gives height and creates that coveted dimension, and honestly, it looks like you’re having a really good time, which is underrated in a haircut in my opinion. Those end waves are perfect to stop it from looking too ‘done.’ If your hair is on the flatter side, you’ll want to use a volumizing mousse on the roots when it’s damp and then just tousle and go.

#3 Silvery Layers That Basically Style Themselves
This haircut is stunning! If anyone was looking at natural hair colors, this would be an example I’d show. The layers really provide a good amount of movement to the cut, and reflect the light well. It adds a really nice high end look to it, like they walked out of a Paris salon or something like that. A little volumizing texturizing spray and you get the point. Silver!

#4 The Nape-Grazing Pixie with Just a Hint of Dimension
The way the highlights are done is quietly adding depth without screaming, “LOOK AT MY HIGHLIGHTS!” The cut is made so that the highlights are intertwining and creating more as a whole. The length that hits right above the nape is really flattering, plus it leaves you with a good amount of hair to play with, without the fuss. I’d call this the ‘stealth chic’ pixie because it looks effortless, but there’s a lot of nice detailing going on.

#5 Feathered and Sandy and Basically Perfect
I am obsessed with the textured feathered layers on a pixie! These sandy blonde hues paired with that layered look are making me want to hop on a beach vacation! The feathered appearance provides that crown height everyone wants without the appearance of having a giant skyscraper up there. Now, here’s my truth, if you go this light, you’re going to want to buy a good purple shampoo because brassy is coming for you. Always! But the colour payoff is 100% worth it.

#6 Wavy Asymmetrical Pixie That Has Serious Personality
I admire the asymmetrical layering here. This is not out there enough to be obnoxious, but adds more intrigue than a basic pixie cut. And those soft waves? They help with the texture, and avoid that bulkiness that can happen with shorter styles. This is one of those styles that people will compliment you on, and say “I could never” but the truth is, they’re just scared. Don’t be scared!

#7 Curled Layers That Hit Right Above the Jaw (Chef’s Kiss)
I really appreciate the thought put into the length. The way it sits just above the jawline makes the neck look more elongated and adds an elegant touch to the whole look. The soft curled layers are so lovely and I think that is what elevates it from being just another pixie cut. The soft highlights add dimension without being too commited to a full color service. I think that is a great option for someone who does not like to spend a lot of time in the salon. This is one of those cuts that looks great no matter if you style it or if you just let it air dry.

#8 The Polished Silver Pixie That’s Quietly Stunning
It looks so ELEGANT. The soft layers give framing the face and that gorgeous silver color is stunning! I have many clients going silver who worry that it might wash them out, but with this layered movement, it actually brightens the face. The length right above the nape is the perfect spot to keep things clean and there’s enough hair to switch up your styling if you want!

#9 Wispy Ends and Cheekbone Magic
The wispy soft ends in this hairstyle compliment the cheekbones so nicely, and I wanted to point that out because it’s those types of nuances that elevate a nice pixie hairstyle to another level. For this type of cut with finer hair, it’s really nice because it keeps the entire look light and airy without any pieces weighing it down and looking heavy or flat. The highlights are just the right amount to bring a nice brightness to the look without being overpowering. If you’ve been thinking about going shorter but are worried it might be too extreme, this is a lovely length to begin with.

#10 Crown Volume That Does the Work For You
The layer around the crown gives you that built-in volume, which is *to die for*. You could say this has soft movement on top, and it falls perfectly to the side. The highlights are placed well, giving you some light dimension without making you look chunky. I’d say you’d want to spend a couple minutes in the morning rounding brushing or even using your fingers and some product to keep the crown area lifted, but it’s really no big deal. More of a suggestion than a requirement.

#11 Silver and Textured and Framing Everything Perfectly
This silver is STUNNING, and the layered texture is so good for her face shape. What I love about this cut especially is how the layers add volume without the overwhelming look that layered fine hair can sometimes give. It’s that sweet spot of “my hair looks full and healthy” without “my hair is doing too many things at once.” Just a little bit of light-hold styling paste for texture and she’s good to go!

#12 Warm Brown Pixie with Layers That Fall Like Butter
The soft layers that fall around her face are so beautiful. I love the extra warmth a rich brown color brings. Side-swept bangs are often a young choice but they really just add to the softness and are so perfect with this look. Honestly, with finer hair, I always advise my clients that this sort of hair will take a bit more time. I’ve noticed that the layers can really lose their shape overnight. The good news is, once you establish a consistent routine, it’ll likely only take you a couple minutes. I think the versatility of this particular cut really says a lot about it too.

#13 That Tousled Wavy Pixie You Keep Seeing and Wanting
This is the haircut for you if you have even a faint natural wave in your hair. The soft layers compliment your hair, and the side sweeps just push everything into a beautiful casual style. It’s soft, playful, and polished enough for any occasion, which is just great. If the wave pattern is a little uneven, you might need a little lightweight styling cream to define the look, but that’s literally all you will need.

#14 The Wispy Bangs Pixie That Softens EVERYTHING
I have to say, wispy bangs on a pixie cut is one of my all time favorite looks. They add a softness to the look in a way that blunt bangs just cannot compare. Plus, they are WAY more forgiving to grow out. The light color here gives that glow and freshness that I just love. The layering underneath keeps the cut from looking too flat and adds that subtle movement to the whole cut that makes it feel alive. If you’ve been afraid of bangs, these wispy bangs are like the perfect training wheels for bangs!

#15 Lively Bouncy Layers That Make You Look Like You’re Up To Something
I love how bouncy this haircut is; it really does look like it puts you in a good mood! The layers are doing the most, both literally and figuratively, and side-swept bangs are always great for face framing. This looks like one of those styles that you can just shake your head and it’ll fall right back into place, and that’s a true sign of a great pixie cut! For that to happen though, you’ll want to keep your trims up every five to six weeks because the layers need to look fresh and sharp.

#16 Copper Highlights That Are Giving Me LIFE
This is a stunning copper color! The highlights bring so much warmth and vibrancy to the hair, and really makes it stand out in a way that would not be possible with a single process color. The layered texture also gives it some confidence and movement which contributes to the overall energetic feel of the cut. It is awesome! If you want to add some color to your pixie without going for a full on fashion color, copper highlights are a great choice. Just keep in mind that if you choose to do reds and coppers, they do tend to fade the fastest, so color depositing conditioner will be your best friend!

#17 Ashy Gray Tousled Pixie That Feels Very “Right Now”
This ashy grey colour is very modern and the tussled finish makes it look like she cool without any effort. Textured painted layers give volume exactly where it’s needed without being too much. The short length is great for showing off her face shape. The haircut is a frame and SHE is the art. It may sound cheesy, but it’s true! If you’re going gray and have been wondering whether to fight it or lean into it, THIS is leaning into it and it’s awesome!

#18 Soft Framing Layers with That Just-Right Length
I love hair cuts around the ears because they are so versatile, and I wish I could convince more of my clients to go for it! It definitely adds to the framing of the face, and with some texture, the outlines are so soft and flattering. A layered cut also adds volume to just the right places without making fine hair look like it’s trying too much. It’s definitely one of those cuts where less is more, and when it works, IT REALLY WORKS.

#19 The Polished Pixie That Looks Expensive
Beautiful Money is a compliment, I swear. The softness of the layers creates movement. Everything is intentional and balanced. Definitely not messy or chaotic. The Ben swept bangs fully cross her face and everything is so clean. What I think makes the hair so polished looking is the restraint in layers and texture. If you like a more clean and polished look, this is your cut!

#20 Textured Layers with Natural Shine That Won’t Quit
That natural shine is stunning! Healthy hair and the right hair cut give off an effect no product can replicate. It’s so phenomenal! The soft layers frame her face beautifully and come to life. The side swept look creates motion even when she is still. This is one of those hair cuts where the right shine serum will elevate it from great to super spectacular! But not too much, we don’t want it to look greasy!

#21 Platinum Pixie with That Cool-Girl Edge
Going super bright platinum on a pixie is a huge risk. Fortunately, this person pulled it off well. All over light colors run the risk of looking flat, or like a helmet, but the textured layers break up that flat look. The shorter hair in the back will also make upkeep a lot easier since platinum is really high maintenance. If you don’t mind the upkeep, it is a smart choice. You will need toning shampoos, and possibly regular visits to the salon for toner maintenance. Because of this, you really do have to go all in on the commitment to it and I respect that.

#22 Embracing the Gray with Style and Zero Apologies
Anyone who chooses to embrace their natural gray hair is amazing and to pair it with such a gorgeous haircut is incredible! The texture of the layers adds depth and with a soft sweep of hair across the forehead, it adds effortless sophistication to the look. What I really love about this haircut is that it doesn’t feel like it’s compensating for anything, it’s simply a great cut, a beautiful pixie that’s stunning gray hair. The maintenance required is low (and consistent). You might think of it like watering a plant; it doesn’t take much effort, but you do need to show up for it regularly!

#23 Lavender Tones on a Pixie? YES PLEASE.
Lavender with gray hair is such a lovely choice! Lavender is soft and playful and also a great compliment to her skintone. The layers give just the right amount of texture to keep it from looking flat. The length looks to be two or three inches keeping it short enough to be manageable but long enough to show off that great color. Since the lavender tone will fade quickly, she will need some color-depositing conditioner to keep it looking fresh.

#24 Breezy Layers That Move When You Move
Looking at this makes me feel the sensation of a spring breeze. Is that odd? The gentle layers add movement and dimension, making the cut feel alive. The side swept bangs finish the look perfectly. You will love this hairstyle because you will see your reflection and think “wow, I look amazing!” and that is the whole point of getting a haircut. This hairstyle is low maintenance except for the trims you will need to keep the layers defined.

#25 Soft Bangs and Subtle Movement for the Win
This hairstyle features soft bangs which are wispy and create a gentle frame around her face and makes her look younger. The movement in the hair is also great; most haircuts lose movement in favor of some kind of structure, but not this one. The highlights are very nicely done. They give a few interesting pops without being distracting and without making you spend a ton of time in the salon. If you have fine hair, a lightweight texturizing cream will help you keep that piece-y definition without the crunch.

#26 Tousled and Effortless with Perfectly Placed Layers
The look conveys ‘I don’t care’ about my hair, but it actually requires a lot of care and consideration, which makes it the best haircut possible. The soft layers create dimension and ensure fine hair doesn’t fall flat, and overall shape is balanced and purposeful. The mid-length is just the right amount to tousle and play with, while management of the hair is a breeze, and you won’t have to go through the annoying growing out phases. The versatility of this cut is amazing, and I can see it working on so many different people!

#27 Short and Lifted with Quiet Crown Volume
The subtle volume at the crown is doing something really nice, it gives you height without the ‘I set my hair in rollers in 1987’ look, you know? The soft, textured layers keep it modern, and the overall shape is really flattering without going too fussy. This is a great cut for someone who wants to look put together but also wants to spend about zero extra minutes on their hair in the morning. It’s that sweet spot between polished and effortless that a lot of cuts TRY for but this one actually achieves.

#28 Playful Layers with a Soft Color That Glows
This haircut captures light beautifully, and the structure makes it even more fun! Keeping the length where it allows movement is ideal since you can really see the layers do their thing. They create that pixie texture that’s fun instead of just “short.” This style works really well with slightly wavy hair types because the waves enhance the texture. This ends up meaning less work for you in the morning, which is always a plus!

#29 Soft Gray Tones with Short Framing Layers
I enjoy the light grey color as it looks youthful and bright, also it doesn’t look “old”, it looks COOL. The short framing layers highlight her features without being distracting, and those layers are doing what they should. The subtle layers give movement and dimension without being over the top, and the overall shape is clean and modern. For those who like a more understated look, this is a lovely choice that gives some personality without an extreme change to your daily routine.

#30 Silvery Side-Swept Perfection (No, I’m Not Being Dramatic)
I am going to call this one perfect! Her face is framed beautifully by the silver color and the textured layers, and everything works TOGETHER so well. The short length showcases her cheekbones, and the sweep adds playful movement and helps balance it out. Fine hair looks AMAZING at this length because you get all the volume and texture without the weight pulling it all down. We love a light shade, but it does mean you’ll want to keep up with your purple shampoo so this silver STAYS gorgeous and doesn’t go yellow.
