When a client walks in and says I want a bob, I get excited because there is so much potential for the look we could go so many different directions with the cut. The best thing about bob cuts is that they have been popular for so many years and every time a new bob is created, there is a change in its texture, the lengths, the layers, and so there is always a new personality with the cut. I remember last year when one of my clients came in, she had been growing her hair for 3 years and when she came in for a trim, she looked at her hair and said “take it all off and give me a bob.” As I’m sure you can imagine, I was a little nervous, but I also knew it was going to be a fantastic cut.
For 2026, I am so excited about the new bobs that will be coming out. The more rigid cuts and the bone straight looks are out and people are wanting more of a messy look. Some may think that this looks effortless, but in reality it takes so much work to achieve the look and thankfully the layers are not as obvious. For this next year, I have picked out my top favorite bobs because I truly believe there is going to be a look here that so many people are going to want to try.
#1: Warm Mocha Layers with That Perfect Wispy Fringe
The bangs have a specific look to them which makes it appear as if they were styled a certain way on the spot. The mocha color is helping with that, keeping everything even more soft and approachable rather than anything harsh. It’s all very “I woke up like this”, when in reality my stylist is great at what they do. This is a great template if your hair is fine because the layers aren’t overdone. Just enough to give some lift and movement so it doesn’t fall flat. A light mousse at the roots when it’s damp and that’s all you need.
#2: That Beachy Sandy Blonde Situation
This hairstyle instantly gives off vacation vibes! I love the light blonde shade and the cool, casual vibe it has. The best part? It doesn’t look overly done. I love how the layers are cut to enhance the natural wave patterns, so this will especially work well for you if you have any texture at all! This cut is best for medium to thick hair as it needs that density to support the tousled look without going limp. If you’re after that tousled look, you really need some good texturizing spray (and pro tip: let your hair dry to about 80% before spraying!) and then just let it air dry.
#3: The Bronde Contour That Does the Work For You
I love this shade of bronde! This color is perfections as it lands in the most expensive-looking shade at the center of the blonde and brunette spectrum. The way the layers are cut really creates dimensional looks as opposed to the ‘I got layers’ look. The length is also perfects as it’s grazing the shoulders so you can pull it back if you need to, but it looks best down. If you’ve been wanting to do balayage but are hesitant because of the commitment, this is a great style for you! There is also a nice grow-out to this look!

I love this look! The combination of the sculpted bob with the dark, rich espresso color makes me want to be holding a martini in some classy well-lit bar. The collar length, soft rounded layers with a nice bouncy blowout from a good round-brush technique look so good. If your hair is medium/thick, this will be fantastic with minimal upkeep after the cut. The color alone is doing most of the work!
#5: Soft Textured Bob with a Fringe That Actually Behaves
Let me share my thoughts about fringes. I understand that some fear them because of a bad experience from 2007 and that is entirely reasonable. However, this is the solution to that issue. It is soft, texturized, and merges with the rest of the cut. It does not just sit there as a distinct block from the rest of the cut on your forehead. The warm chocolate tones throughout this bob add to the overall richness and the length just above the shoulders helps it stay contemporary. If your hair falls in the fine to medium category, this kind of fringe will work well for you as it creates a face-framing effect as well as an illusion of volume without the need for a curling iron, and so on.

This style is a more relaxed version of the last one, which, believe me, is a compliment. I will say you will have to keep up with coming in to trim the fringe more frequently than the rest of the haircut if you plan to keep it looking nice, but that’s pretty much it. If you’re willing to do that, then you will have a look that takes very little effort to look put together each day.

If you have thinner hair and are looking for some volume, let’s talk about this cut. Hair that is above the shoulders with a bang and some texture cut at the tips creates the look of more hair, which is a smart cut! It gives a fun wavy texture that is really versatile. If you have a lot of hair, you should know that this same cut will look a little different, and some of your hair might need to be thinned out to keep a good shape.
#8: Stacked Bob with That Quietly Perfect Shape
A perfectly executed stacked bob creates an appealing architectural effect on the back of the head. This style is cut just above the shoulders with gentle layering added for movement while still keeping the structure stacked. The colour is a deep rich brown, which is classic and does not take focus away from the cut. It is a sensible choice considering the cut is the total focus. This style will give fine to medium hair great shape and you will retain the shape of this cut for quite some time. The stacking will need to be touched up every 6 weeks or so to keep it looking sharp, but the maintenance is very low.

All chin-length bobs radiate confidence, and this one has it in spades. The soft bangs are a nice touch that doesn’t detract from the rest of this well-done cut. The slight back layering gives a naturally structured volume boost. Whether hair is straight, slightly wavy, or of medium/thick density this will be stunning. You will get that effortless fullness that determines the difference between an average haircut and a great one. It will also be one of those styles that looks great in photos, and you’ll catch yourself admiring your reflection in the car window. It’s confidence.

If I take aside the layered texture the move it adds, the cut would be pretty simple bob. It may be hard to tell what is ‘bad’ about this haircut, as there seems to be nothing glaringly obvious. Instead, it seems like everything is working together cohesively. This haircut is blended with layers to provide movement without creating any bulk. The subtle asymmetry is contemporary and playful and a good amount of work will be done with the cutting. To finish the look, all you need is a light styling cream or defining paste.

There are a lot of different haircuts you can get but this one is one of my favorites. The layers are a nice touch and the short length brings out my jawline which is nice. It looks even warmer and nicer with the golden highlights/undertones and light brown color. The hair looks super natural with the tussled look and gives a ton of personality to it. This cut and length will really help your hair look thicker and have more volume. You can have this look with only two minutes of tussling and some texture spray.
#13: Cropped Bob with Face-Framing Layers That Really Deliver
This hairstyle is interesting and unique. It is one of the few on the list that goes above the nape which shows a good amount of commitment. It also has face framing layers, so it shouldn’t feel too heavy. If you have some natural waves, movement will be effortless as this will create a wave. If you have super straight hair, don’t worry! You will still have that cool textured look with just a bit of product in the ends of your hair. I highly recommend this hairstyle if you’re getting bored with your hair and want a change. It’s perfect if you’re not ready to go for a pixie cut!

With this haircut, I am re-connecting with a specific detail. It reaches to the collarbone, with soft layers that add movement without being messy, and the subtle highlights add a soft shimmer to the hair, creating the illusion of natural radiance. It might sound boring to say, but this bob is very versatile and works for just about everything, including the rare combo of business and casual. It will sit nicely on fine to medium hair. If you like a more polished look, a smoothing serum on dry hair will keep flyaways tamed without adding any weight to the hair.
#15: Textured Bob with Dark-to-Light Dimension
I love the different colors. The dark colors under the roots and tips being a light color creates a lot of dimensions and makes the haircut more interesting than if it were a single color. The layers are soft and the length is just above the shoulders, so it’s very easy to wear. On super fine hair, this won’t work as well. Also, hair that is too thick won’t showcase the layers as well. I think the color almost does half the work here, so you should definitely find a good colorist if you want this particular look.
#16: Copper Layered Bob That Actually Earns the Word “Vibrant”
I don’t typically use the word `vibrant` but it fits this coppertone perfectly. It’s warm without being too orange and it’s rich without being too heavy. It glows with the soft waves and the layers. I like the playfulness of the above-the-shoulder layers; I think it works for so many different ages and skin tones. With medium to thick hair this will look really full because the layers cut through the bulk and show off the color. Finer hair can look great too but it might need more waves and volume. The easiest way to achieve this is by applying a light styling cream to damp hair.
#17: Chocolate Layered Bob, Clean and Modern
The feeling is mutual! I also love this cut. Luxurious but not excessive on the chocolate colour. The work done is still very present as well. The layering done was very skillfully placed to allow a balance of movement without chunkiness. The shoulder length creates a great classy look without giving the appearance of growing out a haircut. The cut is effortless in its styling and how it adapts to different occasions from casual to formal and day to night. With good upkeep this look will remain chic and polished, but most of the work will be done by the shape. The regular maintenance will do the most work to keep it looking great.
#18: Face-Framing Strands That Make the Whole Cut
Face-framing layers are, in my opinion, the most affordable option to achieve that facelift look. This haircut is a perfect example. The soft strands framing the face are doing something truly flattering. It draws the eye in and highlights the features without being super obvious. For those with fine hair, these types of layers will help alleviate that flat-against-the-head look. If you are thinking about getting your first bob haircut, this is a good choice. It offers enough change from your previous haircut without being too drastic, and you also won’t have to race to the car for a panic moment. Also, the layers in this bob give the haircut a nice sense of complexity without being too busy. The solid chocolate color and slight tonal variations create nice texture as well. The length also sits just above the nape of the neck, so your neck will feel nice and free. This is something that a lot of people don’t tell you with a shorter haircut, but once you do it, there is no going back. The haircut will require some regular upkeep to keep the shape looking nice and this should be done every 5-6 weeks, but looking this good is worth it.

Soft waves and dark hair create a pleasing combination. Dark shades paired with lighter reflections from waves create a high contrast and striking effect. This hairstyle works for many different people for many different reasons. It is fairly easy to create a wave style on straight hair. Simply use a straightener and alternate direction of the waves by section. Then give the hair a good shake. This style works best on fine hair as it will help to add volume and body to the style.

The blend of colors that runs through all of the hair is beautiful and gives a nice shine. It adds a dimension without being a highlight. There is youthful lightness here that feels fresh. We’re talking five minutes with a dryer and your fingers, not a whole thing.
#22: Copper Bob with Feathered Ends That I’m Slightly Obsessed With
I’m returning to the world of copper and I can’t stop myself. The ends of the hair have feathering to help keep the whole cut from feeling too weighty and too helmety, and this cut is light, as it the warm and lively copper color. I know I will have to stay on top of maintenance for this color, as it fades on its own schedule, and nothing can be done to stop it. A color-depositing shampoo will be in my future. The layers also add nice fullness which is a bonus!

Overall list, this cut is probably the easiest “I just wanna look put together without thinking about it” and that is saying a lot for what this cut brings. Gentle layers and a smooth chocolaty
color that suits every skin tone. It does not fight for attention, but still keeps you looking put together which is what clients want even if it is not said. For fine to medium hair, this cut is super low maintenance and the layers stop the cut from looking flat which will prevent you from having an overall boring look. This is the most loved style because people give you compliments without knowing how to articulate what the change is.
#24: Textured Bob with Highlights and a Modern Edge
Your slight asymmetry gives the style a unique touch while keeping it professional. The highlights add depth and movement, while the layered cut gives your hair more texture. This style makes your hair look light and effortless, which personally I think creates more volume. The density plays to your advantage. Just keep doing trims to maintain the shape because it’s doing a lot and you want to keep it intact.
#25: Short Layered Bob with Clean Lines and Warmth
This one has great definition with the varying lengths and such a nice soft look to it. Designing a bob to not look too rigid or messy is no easy feat, so hitting that sweet spot is a gift. The rich brown color and soft layered back give a modern look that will age well. Fine to medium hair types will love the volume and bounce this cut gives. The shape of this cut is racially well thought out to soften and frame the face. Shorter cuts like this do require regular touch ups every four to five weeks to keep the shape from getting shaggy, but it looks super nice when it’s freshly cut.

The unfinished bangs and layers look amazing and give the style a ton of movement. I think this length is also modern because it’s above the shoulders. I feel like fine hair makes this style even better because that light, airy feeling is really nice as opposed to thicker hair that has to be thinned out. I will say that fine hair does cause a cut to lose its shape faster so be sure to get trims regularly. But the day this style comes out of the salon is the day I look fantastic!

I will always support more people trying burgundy! This burgundy bob is leaving me speechless. The soft fringe and cut create the perfect amount of cool without being too intimidating. My jaw length burgundy bob is surprisingly flattering to everyone who tries it out. The lighter layers help prevent the hair from feeling too dense while the color provides the perfect amount of drama. Let’s be real, deeper fashion colors like burgundy do fade. If you don’t keep up with it, the fade can look muddy. For color maintenance, color safe shampoo and cool water rinses will become your best friends!

For this hairstyle, the beauty lies in simplicity. If you have fine hair, then this style is definitely going to create lift and give visual texture up top. The loose waves will probably need some product to help keep them in place, but once they do, you’re natural hair will do most of the work and you will feel great about it. There aren’t many haircuts that can help create that feeling to a person!
