A wonderful haircut for a seventy year old woman is effortless to appreciate, and it is not the effort of someone who’s given up. It’s more like they have come to a place in their life and they are confident and this is how they want to look. I have had clients that come to my chair looking nervous, thinking short hair is going to make their face look rounder, or highlight things they want to minimize. Then they see the finished cut and their whole body language shifts. I especially love working with rounder faces. There is so much you can do with layers and textures to create angles and lift them to where you want.
Bev was one of my clients that came in a couple of years ago and said to me ‘just clean it up’. I had noticed that she had been getting the same boring trim for over ten years, so I did my best to try and persuade her to do something different. It wasn’t anything too out there, but I added some texture to the very top and rounded the blunt cut line at her temples. The next day she called me to tell me that someone in the store had complimented her. That’s the magic of a modern haircut! It’s not about making someone look completely different. It’s about helping them look like the best version of themselves. I have 26 amazing women’s haircuts in mind that I am most excited to show you. Cheers to hair!

#1: Soft Swept-Back Silver Pixie Lift
I appreciate the work done on the crown; that added height makes a huge difference on rounder face shapes. The layers are working; they are providing movement without the hair looking thin or wispy in the wrong places. This type of haircut will give you volume if your hair typically falls flat. All you need to finish it is a light styling cream worked through your hair with your fingers while it’s still damp.

#2 Chic Textured Short Cut with Soft Layers
This holds perfectly to the head. The layers are just right to add some interest to the silver, without leaving the look flat or one-dimensional. With a cut like this, I appreciate the fact that it pulls off an aesthetic that is intentional without coming across as too much. That is that sweet spot most of the clients in this demographic want. Plan to come in for a trim every five to six weeks because as those layers start to grow out, the shape will become muddy very quickly.

#3 Chic Soft Textured Bob with Wispy Layers
This one has ends that are light and really lovely. They provide the entire cut a lovely lightness which is perfect when you have a rounder face. Blunt ends can make everything feel heavy by association. The gray here is lovely and luminous and the layering helps with that as it catches the light differently at each level. I would keep a shine spray handy for days when it’s looking a little dull.

#4 Classic Soft Gray Bob with Subtle Layers
Chin-length bobs can affect round faces in an either positive or negative way. For instance, they may provide more balance and harmony. On the other hand, they may just emphasize and mirror the roundness of the face. In this example, the layers help break up the jawline/mirror effect. Also, the soft waves in the styling keep the look from being overly geometric. If you have fine hair and have been told that bobs aren’t for you, I would show you this picture and encourage you to reconsider. The density problem is real. Be prepared to roughed dry it with fingers to create fullness. Then go through and finish smoothing it.

#5 Charming Pixie Cut with Soft Textured Layers
With this style and the use of layers, it really helps frame the face and adds more length without it feeling heavy, and the length above the ears keeps it feeling clean and open. I’ve done variations of this cut so many times, and it never fails to make people look more youthful and more alive. I know that sounds strange to say about a haircut, but it really is the case. There’s more space around the face, and it looks so much better. I can tell you will be in my chair a lot to keep this cut looking so good. From experience I can tell you that this kind of shape tends to lose its magic around six weeks.

#6 Textured Silver Pixie Cut with Effortless Volume
The most important area is the crown since it creates the most length illusion in the face, which is the entire goal with round shapes. The color features some very nice subtle variances in the silvery tones, which makes it look more natural and dimensional rather than flat. For hair this fine, a volumizing powder would do the trick and keep that lift going all day, and in the crown area right at the roots would be the best spot to dust some.

#7 Modern Textured Pixie Cut for Effortless Elegance
This is a reliable pixie. I can be honest and say that this isn’t the most thrilling cut on the list. But it is very well done, and it accomplishes what it set out to do. The cut on top does give it a more relaxed vibe which is nice, and the sides are clean but not too harsh. It’s a good safe option for someone looking for a short refined hairstyle that they don’t want to have to restyle for the grocery store and dinner. Just keep up with those trims.

#8 Textured Short Haircut with Soft Layers
I really like how the shape at the front changes as it goes to the back. I particularly like how it becomes more defined towards the nape. It definitely takes talent to do that type of shaping because if the graduation is off even a bit, you lose the whole taper effect. It’s a small detail, but having it polished from the back and side, where people see you from is what makes the cut look so much better.

#9 Modern Short Silver Pixie Cut with Textured Layers
Having the sides kept short and top layers cut longer is a good way to soften some of the roundness of round faces, and this one really has that, without being a headache. Easy to style, quick to dry, and looks good with basically zero effort! This is a workhorse cut, and I mean that in the best way possible! The only thing is, as the top layers grow, they tend to flop and lose that direction, so keep your trimming appointments!

#10 Softly Layered Short Cut with Gentle Waves
The softness of this is lovely. The waves really give this style some personality and make it look like you didn’t spend hours in front of a mirror. The face framing layers are also great for adding a bit of shadow along the cheekbone area and some dimension. This cut will work with your hair if you have any natural waves at all which will make your morning routine incredibly easy. Just a quick scrunch with some damp hair and a light mousse and you’re all set.

#11 Chic Soft Textured Pixie Cut with Subtle Layers
The height of the crown is great in this case. It stretches without being architectural or overly rigid, a line frequently crossed with pixies particularly if the layering isn’t blended well. I appreciate the way the sides are kept closer to the head so that your face is the focus, not the hair. This is the type of haircut people compliment you on but can’t say what is different. They just know something looks good.

#12 Textured Short Cut with Playful Volume
I love how this cut let’s the natural wave do a lot of the work. When there is this kind of texture, it will use a shape that fights it. There is a lot of movement here, and the silhouette is nice and clean. If your hair naturally moves like this, I would embrace it even more. A volumizing mousse at the roots, and blow-drying upside down for a minute or two will give you all the lift you need.

#13 Charming Textured Short Cut with Soft Fringe
The nice thing about the fringe is that it is soft enough to avoid creating a hard line along the forehead which would just add more roundness to the face instead of creating some contrast. Instead, it feathers and draws attention to the eyes. The rest of the cut supports this well with light layers adding movement throughout. I think this is a great option if you are thinking about bangs but feel nervous about it because this version is so soft that it barely registers as a fringe.

#14 Choppy Textured Pixie Cut with Soft Volume
I appreciate how this style appears to be very careful with its ‘done’ look. I also really love the chop on this cut. Everything looks intentional, and rather than messy, looks contemporary. The highlights in the cut are a great addition and contribute to making the entire style feel thicker and more interesting. When it comes to finer hair, strategic texturizing is key, as it creates an illusion of more density that blunter cuts simply can’t provide.

#15 Charming Curly Silver Crop with Soft Volume
I really love this! Natural curls like these are so stunning, especially with such beautiful length and texture. It’s one of those cases where the hair is doing whatever it wants, and the cut is smart enough to let it do just that. The height from the curls is contrasted so beautifully to the roundness of the face. Plus the silver color soft spirals is such a pretty combination! If this is close to your natural texture please don’t fight it! Just keep it moisturized with a really good curl cream and let it be!

#16 Softly Rounded Short Bob with Subtle Layers
This bob has a nice warmth to it thanks to how it is situated and avoids looking too structured or too loose. The length is a little above the shoulders which gives you versatility to tuck it behind your ears or push it to the front depending on your mood. It’s definitely the sort of chop that moves nicely from season to season without feeling stale. I would suggest that if you have fine hair, you’ll need to be more strategic with how you blow it. By directing the roots away from the scalp with a round brush, it really does help with that ‘fuller’ look.

#17 Textured Silver Short Crop with Layered Volume
The volume is beautifully balanced! It has that soft look as if you just ran your fingers through your hair, but there’s certainly some good cutting that makes this look fine. The silver highlights add just the right amount of color to capture attention without making a huge statement. This is a great option if you want some dimension in your hair without a dramatic color change.

#18 Charming Soft Bob with Gentle Fringe
It’s hitting at the jawline, which is something I can’t stop thinking about. For round face shapes, hitting at the jawline is such a flattering place for a bob because it provides a visual endpoint and adds definition to the face. The fringe is straight enough to fully cover the forehead but not too much to conceal it and the straight texture works in the cut’s favor because it gives the whole look a sleek and polished feel. This is a look I would say simplicity is key. Don’t overthink the styling, in fact all you need is a paddle brush and a dryer on medium heat.

#19 Charming Soft Textured Crop with Wispy Edges
The soft and fluffy ends around the face area and nape of the neck give off a delicate feel to the haircut and help keep it looking refined without it getting stuffy. I feel like this is a description a lot of women want and have trouble describing. The color, a soft gray, deepens the softness and ties the look together. I think the best haircuts are those that feel polished, yet are approachable, so I think that is the greatest compliment I can give, so I really love this!

#20 Elegant Blunt Bob with Soft Fringe
This bob is sharp and classy, and we can see that with this example. The weight line is defined, and the fringe softens the look as it breaks up an otherwise harsh line. This style works perfectly with straight, fine hair, as the blunt cut creates an illusion of added density at the ends. With this bob, be prepared for salon visits every 4 to 5 weeks to keep the ends sharp- once the cut starts to get uneven, the bob will lose its entire purpose.

#21 Stylish Textured Short Cut with Soft Volume
The first thing that caught my eye was the color. The soft pastel tone is very pretty and helps prevent the look from being too serious or too conventional. The cut is simple and the top has nice movement, but the color choice elevates the whole look. If you have been drawn to softer hues, but have been worried that it might look costumey, something in this family of soft and muted colors would be a great way to experiment.

#22 Chic Short Silver Crop with Soft Textured Layers
This haircut looks very clean and tidy, which is perfect for some situations. A simple and clean short haircut is ideal and makes good sense for a lot of people. The layers are well placed to alleviate the haircut from looking boring. The textured ends finishes off the haircut in a way that a blunt cut wouldn’t provide. In my opinion, this is a good choice for someone wanting to look modern and clean without spending a lot of time on her hair every morning.

#23 Textured Short Crop with Soft Volume for Round Faces
This haircut is perfect for thick, wavy, or curly hair. The layers fit seamlessly into the cut, making the volume appear natural. Lightness around the face is important, as the stylist removed weight from the sides, letting the top and crown do all the talking, which is what you want for round face shapes.

#24 Elegant Soft Blunt Bob with Gentle Layers
This bob has some nice and subtle sophistication. With the blunt cut, she gets structure, and the softer layering helps prevent it from looking stiff or too helmet-y, which is always a risk with bobs this length. I love that the cut falls just below the chin; it creates such a nice frame and is ideal for not cutting straight across the widest part of a round face. The shine on the hair here is beautiful, and I imagine it has as much to do with the health of the hair as it does with the styling. So, a smoothing serum would definitely assist you in getting a finish like this.

#25 Textured Short Crop with Playful Volume
The lift at the crown looks good. It doesn’t look like it was teased or forced up there. It looks natural and as though that is where the hair wants to go. Great soft layering helps to keep the volume flattering and even all around, and the length is simple. It looks like it will be easy to maintain. Great everyday cut with a little more character than expected.

#26 Charming Curly Crop with Defined Texture
I love the personality curls at this length have, and I’m still not over this curly cut! These curls are so defined, and they sit perfectly in place! There’s no fuzz to be found and no curls are battling for real estate, every individual curl is contributing to this look. The rounded bangs help the overall softer look, and keep the face bright and fresh. If your curls tend to fall flat and lose their definition by mid-day, I suggest rubbing a bit of light hold curl gel through wet hair. It will give you that non crunchy hold and keep your curls in place.
