I wanted to put together a few looks to show how versatile styling a bob with bangs can be. For one of my favorite little bobs with bangs, it’ll be a great day if she gets to add one of my little bobs with bangs to her personal collection. I also respect that this cut is a bit more complex than it looks. I’ve seen so many hairdressers that I appreciate the skill and practice it takes to be a good one. There are so many great reasons for the bob and bangs, and I hope my clients enjoy the change as much as I do. I don’t think I can get enough of what these styles say. The best bobs and bangs showcase the best features of the clients face. I feel like the best haircuts are the ones that stop hiding and start showing clear defined features of the face. I do really enjoy a good bob and bangs and I hope the best looks give my clients the best bobs and bangs ever.

#1: Classic Short Bob with Clean Bangs
This is the bob I’d offer to the person saying, “I just want to look put together without trying,” which honestly, is what everyone wants, but few cuts actually deliver on. The length sitting just above the shoulders does all the work here because it moves with you but doesn’t get in your way, and those bangs are doing exactly what bangs should do, which is make your whole face look softer without screaming “I HAVE BANGS”. If you’ve got medium density hair this is your sweet spot because you’ll get that natural volume without needing to fight for it every morning. A little light mousse scrunched through damp hair and you’re out the door.

#2 That Plum Sleek Bob with the Bangs That Mean Business
I’ll be honest, I love this color because it’s not for the weak. The cut is giving clean sharp lines just above the shoulders, and those bangs are straight across, no remorse, full coverage. This plum color elevates this from ‘nice haircut’ to ‘wait who is she.’ Just be aware that bangs this blunt and straight will need a trim every 3 weeks or they will start doing their own thing, and trust me, it won’t be pretty. On fine to medium hair, this shape creates the illusion of having a lot more hair than you do, which is basically magic.

#3 Soft Waves and Bangs at the Jawline
It can be hard to understand the skill involved in a haircut when the result is an ‘effortless’ look. It might lead you to think that less work was done by the stylist. However, achieving this sort of look takes a lot of skill, and in this case, she used the entire toolbox. The jawline hairstyle and loose waves added the movement that fine hair begs for, and the bangs are soft enough that they don’t take over your face. If your hair is pin straight, achieving this look may take some work on your part. The combination of straight hair and gravity will fight against the texture you want. In this case, you’ll want to grab a small barrel curling iron.

#4 Straight Bangs on a Textured Bob
I have always liked how the straight bangs and the textured bob create a contrast. The top is all serious while the bottom is more free or looks neutral. The jaw-length is versatile for every face shape but is especially good for the oval. The hair finish is soft and it’s meant to keep that 2007 chunky layering look aesthetic behind. If you want to maintain the whole look, just know that you will have to keep trimming the bangs. The whole vibe of this will be ruined if they start poking you in the eye.

#5 The Inverted Bob with Serious Bangs
Now what an absolute haircut! The inverted cut, shorter at the back and longer towards the chin, creates some nice drama and gives a nice angle to the entire look and will make people look twice. Those thick bangs sitting above the eyebrows really add that statement. With this haircut, you don’t even have to style it. The cut will do all the talking thanks to the geometry of straight hair with some weight. I would give this to a client who wants something different but not too weird. This is modern and nice without too many extremes. It will need some upkeep and look nice and sharp. About every 5-6 weeks it will need an angle and trim. Otherwise it will look just grown out and that is not the same haircut at all. A grown out bob is way less exciting.

#6 Wispy Bangs on a Shoulder-Length Textured Bob
If the last one was confident this one is almost nonchalant about things. She’s the type to walk into brunch without a reservation and still sit down. The wispy bangs have a good effect here. They give a softer look to the front of the hair without the bulk from a full bang and for a medium to thick hair this cut shapes nicely because there’s enough hair to have the correct balance of texture without it getting puffy. I’m also seeing what looks like a light balayage which adds depth and makes the whole look more expensive than it actually is. I mean that as a compliment.

#7 Curly Bob with the Softest Bangs
Getting a curly bob haircut is amazing, so I love how enthusiastic my clients are when they decide to get one! Curly hair will make the look so much more fun than if your hair was straightened, and will poof out perfectly around your jawline without making the inverted triangle shape people get when curly bobs are cut to short. I think the bangs look so soft and blended, and the ‘just got out of bed’ vibe is wonderful. The mid-lengths also have some lovely sunny balayage that completes the sun kissed vibe to the style. I hate to say it, but this will not be the same look in a few days. Curls need a lot of love, and if you go a few days without washing your hair and don’t have a little dollop of curl cream in your routine, it will be a completely different look by day 3.

#8 Rich Chocolate Bob, Perfectly Polished
I want to talk about the rich chocolate brown color before we get into the cut, and I definitely could. The color’s warmth brings out the hair’s health, and with straight, medium density hair, it’s practically a light reflector like you see in shampoo commercials! The cut is clean and simple, just medium length with soft bangs and a touch of layering at the ends so it doesn’t sit there like a helmet. This style is for someone who doesn’t want to hear “oh you got a haircut!” but really wants even people to think she looks great without being able to put their finger on it.

#9 Airy Textured Bob Just Above the Jaw
I keep coming back to this example because I think the proportions are spot on and I think it has to do with it sitting right above the jawline. For most people, that’s the length where their face looks most balanced. The fine hair here works to the advantage of the cut because it gives an airy, lightweight quality that hair of a thicker texture can’t replicate. Those soft waves are providing just enough body so it doesn’t look flat. The bangs are really wispy and look effortless, like you just pushed them to the side three hours ago and completely forgot about it. That’s the vibe.

#10 Blunt Bangs on a Wavy Bob
Blunt bangs paired with wavy hair is a style that works better together than you would expect. The style brings a sense of duality with the blended bang and the flowing texture of the waves. A shoulder length cut paired with wavy hair is a great style because it allows the perfect amount of layering to achieve the waves without excess weight. Naturally wavy hair is an easy effortless style to achieve, so a light texturizing spray would do the job to pull out the waves. If you have straight hair and are achieving this goal, you have my respect as you will put in the most effort.

#11 The Classic Blunt Bob with Full Bangs
***
Meet the bob! If you went to a hair dictionary, this is the style that would be featured, and trust me – that is a high compliment! Classics are classic for a reason, and this one is done flawlessly. The look is clean, sharp, and above all, timeless. The combination of a blunt cut and full bangs along with a smooth finish and shoulder grazing length is just perfect. This will look polished every day on fine to medium hair, and of course, that’s the point because it’ll be super low maintenance. This look is going to need a fair amount of upkeep as far as trimming is concerned, especially to maintain that blunt, thick appearance. If anything starts growing out uneven (and you will be able to tell), the whole look loses its punch.

#12 Bouncy Curls and Soft Bangs
The vintage vibe of these curls is amazing! The soft bangs that rest right above the eyes create a romantic touch that is just perfect. What really warms up the curls is the base warm light brown color combined with subtle highlights. The soft climbs make the curls appear more dynamic as they catch the light with every ringlet. This hairstyle is perfect since it can be worn day or night with no changes. If your curls tend to fall flat by the afternoon, you’ll want to give them a refresh with a little water as well as some scrunching to get the bounce back.

#13 Short Curly Bob with Textured Bangs
I enjoy cutting bangs on curly hair because each piece of hair moves individually, which is the desired outcome. You’re not looking for a uniform end result, and letting the curl pattern determine the shape is the goal. In terms of length, keeping it a little above the shoulders is a good move, as that allows the volume to sit around the face and helps keep it from expanding into unwanted areas. While there’s layering going on in the cut, it’s more of an unseen, feel it but don’t see it, type of situation. That’s precisely how good layering should be. Let’s be real, this cut is going to be different every single day because of how your curls fall, and that’s what makes it fun.

#14 Wavy Bob with Wispy Bangs and Effortless Texture
This look gives off such a vibe of ‘I woke up like this’ (which we know is actually quite difficult to pull off intentionally). The airiness of the cut is accentuated on fine to medium hair, and the wispy bangs added just the right amount to soften the forehead without bulk. The waves looks loose, and the subtle layers create that ʻlived inʼ texture which so many people pay a premium for and pretend is natural. It is an awesome look for someone who truly wants this cut, especially someone who aims to spend almost no time on styling (5 minutes max!) but wants it to feel like a lot of effort went into the look. I really love it.

#15 Curly Bob with Blunt Bangs and Lots of Personality
I really like blunt bangs paired with curly hair! It creates such a cool contrast! The bangs are so precise and styled, and then the curls are wild underneath so it makes it so interesting! If your hair is fine, the curls add volume that you would not have had, so the cut works as a style and volume solution at the same time! This bob is one of those styles that looks completely different worn natural as opposed to blow dried. I think you’re getting two haircuts for the price of one, and that is the best deal in the business!

#16 Textured Bob with Bangs That Blend Right In
I think it’s great that the bangs aren’t a completely different style from the rest of the hair! They blend seamlessly into the layers, which speaks volumes to the skill of the cutter. The texture really enhances the overall look and movement. With medium density hair, the texture gives volume without being heavy or overwhelming. Shoulder length hair is versatile enough that you can tuck one side behind your ear and instantly look like a different person. This is definitely a ‘your hair but better’ haircut which people tend to underestimate.
