I have spent a long time in my profession to understand how deeply a single pair of glasses can alter a person’s appearance. One of my clients had her hair layered and they looked like she had them done a long time ago. Then one day she came in sporting some really nice tortoiseshell frames. Everything about her hair changed. The layers and the face frames were competing with each other and her face got lost in everything. That day we did a blunt bob with her and she was unrecognizable. This is the magic of the blunt bob and glasses combo. They really do go hand in hand.
What I’ve noticed is that women over 40 pull this look off best. It takes confidence to know your face and what a haircut can do and that is the exact self awareness a blunt bob embodies. It does take time to create this type of simplicity and blunt bobs do not have to be youthful. This is a collection of different styles of blunt bobs that have been designed around individual hair and frame choices.

#1: A Long Blunt Bob with Curtain Bangs and Some Texture Through It
This style looks great because it looks effortless. It’s cut just above the shoulder which is long enough to pull back if you want to do that, and the curtain bangs that frame the face are very pleasing with glasses. The thing I like about this version is the texture throughout. It’s got just the right amount of waves, and strikes the perfect balance of over-styling and under-styling to give it a relaxed feel. If your hair has any natural movement a good texturizing spray will do the trick.

#2 A Glossy Chin-Length Bob with Really Clean Lines
A beautiful glossy bob is amazing. This one is chin-length and blunt. There is no graduation, so it’s an incredibly clean line. With fine straight hair, it looks almost like it’s made of liquid. It’s the type of style that makes your glasses look intentional, as if the entire outfit was curated to go with it. This type of chop is very technical, so you will need to come in regularly for maintenance to keep everything structured. Once the ends, start growing out unevenly you will cross the line into messy.

#3 Soft Textured Ends on a Clean Blunt Cut
I like how the ends are done on this one. The cut is super simple, going just above the shoulders, but the ease on the ends softens the whole look. It’s an especially nice touch on finer hair because you get the shape of the blunt line without that empty, flat look at the bottom. If you’ve been thinking about a balayage, a cut like this will give highlights something to catch on to at those textured ends.

#4 A Polished Shoulder-Length Bob with Natural Shine
This is a simple look done well. The cut is clean and the length is flattering. You can tell the hair is healthy and shiny (not just from product). I think we sometimes like to overcomplicate things. Sometimes a nice cut on healthy hair is all you need. If your hair is flat and that bothers you, some invisible layers in the interior will add some texture without changing the overall look.

#5 Textured Bob with Soft Bangs That Actually Frame Your Face
The bangs here really steal the show, and for good reason. They are soft enough not to clash with glasses but strong enough to change the whole shape of the face. The shoulder-length hair has some internal layering which gives finer hair types some movement. The color is muted, which allows everything to feel cohesive instead of tangled. This is a good one if you want bangs, but you are nervous about the commitment, as this fringe grows out gracefully and avoids the awkward phase.

#6 Soft Fringe with a Little Bit of Layering Underneath
I can see how the fringe and soft layering create some softness around the face while still keeping the bluntness. The shoulder length is quite practical, it’s long enough to go behind the ears and short enough to not weigh everything down. For fine to medium density hair, this kind of internal layering gives movement in a more organic way. A warmer colour would add more interest and would brighten the face a little.

#7 Chin-Length Textured Bob with a Quiet Ombre
I really love the subtlety of the ombre coloring. The chin length cut and the face framing textures are very inviting. With glasses, the length is also very flattering as the hair and frames occupy different zones of the face instead of competing with each other. If your hair tends to be on the finer side, a volumizing mousse used through damp hair prior to blow drying will give you the body you see here.

#8 A Classic Bob in Rich Chocolate
The color is what really captures my attention first. It’s a deep chocolate brown that looks so rich and warm. With the right skin tones, it makes the outfit really pop. The fit is clean and polished but not overly so. The fabric has the right amount of softness so it will move with you. This bob works for a grocery run or even a dinner out. This is what most of my over 40 clients request, and it doesn’t always need to be glam. The look still needs to be right though.

#9 Chin-Length Bob with Straight Bangs in Deep Burgundy
This hairstyle is really fun! The burgundy bob that ends at the chin paired with straight across bangs has a really fierce vibe to it. The bangs are at brow level so they give a kind of layered effect with prescription glasses. I also think it would look nice with sunglasses. I think she should keep a little anti-frizz serum on her so she can control the bangs during humid times. Other than that, maintenance is pretty simple!

#10 A Chin-Length Bob with Just Enough Volume
This cut is quiet, but it gets all the right things done. It is chin length, which is complimentary to most, and side volume makes fine hair not look sparse. I appreciate the fact that it doesn’t try to be more than what it is. Add the right pair of glasses and you’ve got a whole look with no styling effort. It’s best when haircuts are low maintenance in the morning.

#11 Jaw-Length Bob with Face-Framing Layers and Warm Highlights
I appreciate the placement of the face framing layers. Starting at the cheekbones, they create a nice curtain that softens the jawline. The delicate caramel highlights add interest without being too overpowering. They warm up the hair and direct the light towards the face. When a round/oval face has this type of framing, it gives the illusion of a longer face without changing the cut. It does a lot for the overall outcome.

#12 A Soft Blunt Bob with Chin-Length Layers and Highlights
It may seem easy, and in some ways it is, but there is more to the execution than it may seem. There are layers that help the hair, especially at the ends, move instead of lying completely flat. Along with the layers, the highlights add texture and dimension to the hair, especially at the ends, and the more straight the hair is, the more the flat iron will be appreciated. This is a cut that really rewards that habit, because it looks especially sophisticated when it’s done.

#13 Textured Chin-Length Bob with Soft Waves
The waves provide the cut a different character than the straight version. There’s a nice looseness to it that feels youthful, the real way not the trying too hard way. It works especially well on medium to thick hair because you have enough density to support the wave without it falling flat by lunchtime. The front cheekbone framing pieces are kept a little shorter, which really opens the area around the cheekbones, and that’s a detail that works nicely if you wear frames that sit a little wider.

#14 Slightly Wavy Bob with Face-Framing Softness
I really like the softness of this cut. The soft wave is perfect and falls at just the right height to soften the blunt cut too. The front layers soften the jaw line but still maintain the structure which is important for a chin length bob. The fact that this hair has shine says to me that it is in great condition. For a style like that, it matters so much more than any product or technique used. Healthy hair at this length really sells itself.

#15 Shoulder-Length Textured Bob in Warm Light Brown
This bob has a different type of ease since it has been cut to sit a little longer than most of the others we have. Its light brown colour adds warmth without going too red, the texture woven throughout it adds movement that fine to medium hair may lack. I would call this the transitional bob as it is perfect for you if you are cutting from something longer and you are not ready to go all the way to chin length yet. It still looks intentional and polished without taking a massive step.

#16 Smooth Chin-Length Bob with Subtle Highlights
This bob is ideal for someone who prefers a consistent look. It doesn’t matter if you take 20 minutes to style it or just 5; it’s going to end up looking the same. The color will be a slight variation from the rest of the cut, and it will pop even if you style it to look flat or boring. The smooth finish will complement glasses nicely; no textured contrasting. Your frames will be the statement piece. Not every cut has to have a lot going on, and this is a perfect example of how restraint can work to your advantage.

#17 A Sleek Bob with Textured Ends and Dimensional Color
The ends on this haircut are keeping the bob from looking helmety while the rest of the length stays smooth and controlled. It may seem like a small detail, but it uniquely changes the entire look of the haircut. The highlights in the mid-lengths create just enough depth to make fine hair more interesting than it is, and that is one of my favorite tricks for this hair type. Regular trims are mandatory for this haircut because those textured ends lose their shape fast.

#18 Clean Bob with a Side Part and Easy Movement
A side part really customizes this classic bob and makes it more personal. This bob sits a little above the shoulders and is casual and effortless, as if you just did a quick tuck and are ready to go. For fine hair, a root boosting volumizing spray may help to add more lift at the crown. However, the charm of this style lies in its simplicity. This bob is a great option for glasses and is a great choice as there is nothing else competing for attention.

#19 Jaw-Grazing Textured Bob with Warm Undertones
This length is right at the jaw, which is a very specific sweet spot that not everyone thinks to ask for. It’s shorter than chin length but longer than ear length, and on oval and heart shaped faces it creates a really nice proportion. The warm undertones in the color add richness and the subtle highlights give depth without it looking like a full color service. The soft wave through it needs some intention to maintain (maybe a few sections with a curling wand) but it doesn’t need to be perfect to look good.

#20 Chin-Length Bob with Strong Bangs and Deep Color
I appreciate the most dedication towards the style in this group. The bangs are completely straight and the color is a dark saturation. The cut is also sharp. This type of bob makes the owner seem decisive and clear on the vision which is the best vibe to have with the haircut. Bangs take maintenance and will require work every few weeks, but are totally worth it because they help achieve a polished look daily. Bold frames will really complete the look for round and heart shape faces.

#21 Soft Rounded Bob in Warm Copper
The warmth of the copper color is a perfect compliment to the work done. The cut is a typical shoulder-length bob with softer, rounder edges that curve slightly inward to form a shape that moves with you rather than just hanging there. For fine hair this style adds the illusion of fullness, and the color adds life and vibrancy that will catch the light beautifully. I know a lot of people are hesitant to try this color but the majority end up loving it once they see it on. The shape also means it is fairly low maintenance as far as cuts go.

#22 Chin-Length Bob with Soft Textured Layers
This bob is sick! Chin length is great for glasses too cause they won’t overlap. The layers make it look less generic and give it some personality. Wavy hair is great here too cause it activates those layers with no styling effort. All it needs is some light styling cream scrunched through your damp hair. You’ll be good with a little cream and scrunching.

#23 A Sharp-Edged Bob with a Slight Side Part
The confidence and precision of the edges here gives the cut a confidence that softer alternatives do not have. The cut sits slightly above the shoulders which gives an unbroken line that, on straight fine hair, creates a very satisfying silhouette. The slight side part is just enough asymmetry to keep things from feeling too stiff. This is the bob for people who like things clean and considered, the type of person whose glasses are also very thoughtfully curated. Keeping the edges this sharp is quite demanding, but if that is something you enjoy, the results are quite satisfying.

#24 Textured Bob with Soft Silver Highlights
I admire practitioners who work *with* clients’ greys and silvers rather than *against* it—and this is a stunning example. The silver highlights look blended, and paired with the textured chin length cut, it creates a modern and effortless vibe. I like the subtle layering, as it offers versatility in how you choose to style it. You can wear it sleek and straight, or add a bend for movement. This is such an intelligently designed cut for someone undergoing the transition to being grey/ embracing their grey as it makes the process look intentional and beautiful.

#25 A Sleek Jaw-Length Bob with a Soft Side Sweep
Here, sidestep is almost absent . It’s just a delicate movement brushing the hair off the face on one side, and that subtlety is what makes it classy. The natural gloss with fine, straight hair and a product like that isn’t even really necessary. An oval or heart-shaped face is flattered by a jaw-length cut because it draws attention to the cheekbones. This is one of those haircuts that stops you in front of the mirror and makes you think, oh yeah, I look good without having done anything special that day.

#26 Shoulder-Length Bob with Full Bangs and a Glossy Finish
Medium density hair is kept lightweight with a design focus on promoting the flow of hair around the face. A polished look is provided by the gloss finish which works for both formal and informal attire. The straight lines of the bob encase the jaw. Glasses add to the finished appearance. To keep hair shiny and the gloss treatment maintained, it should be incorporated into your routine. With a hairstyle as smooth as this, having healthy hair is a must.
