50 Modern Pixie Haircut for Ladies In Their 50s

I can often tell what the stylist had in mind based on the cut. I believe these cuts can be easy or incredibly difficult and it has little to do with the time and effort needed to make the cut. If the stylist has an understanding of the clients face, hair, and overall energy, then they have a personalized vision. It is not uncommon for clients of mine, especially those in their fifties, to tell me they want a cut that is “easy”, what they mean is they want to not have to fight with their hair everyday. More often than not these people appreciate longer, more drawn-out conversations because it is much more than just wanting to go short.

I think of a specific client of mine who was an older teacher, and had a shoulder length bob for about twenty years. When she finally felt ready, I moved her to a pixie cut, and she was actually quiet during the whole process. When the cut was finished, she said, “I did not realize my face looked like that”. She looked in the mirror and instead of critiquing, she complimented herself. That’s what great pixie cuts should do! They should remove some of the hair, but also get rid of the mental block that prevented a person from revealing their whole face. These are other examples that I think have interesting possibilities, and they could achieve some varied results depending on what is asked of the hair.

Modern Textured Pixie with Soft Volume

#1: Modern Textured Pixie with Soft Volume

Most of the work for this cut is in the layering, which is generally best for finer hair. The overall length does stay towards the shorter end to keep everything clean, but there is just enough movement through the top so it never looks too flat or harsh. The darker roots are something I appreciate, it’s obviously intentional, and it gives this style some depth that you would otherwise have to recreate every day with a product. If your hair is one of those that is limp by lunchtime, a cut shaped like this is working in your favor because the structure is still there even as the volume settles.

Ivory-Blonde Tapered Pixie with Finger-Textured Top

#2 Ivory-Blonde Tapered Pixie with Finger-Textured Top

The proportions on this cut are very good. There is enough length of about an inch at the top to get some finger texture, and the sides are brought in just enough to make the entire shape feel intentional instead of grown out. On the left there is a cowlick that has been worked with and not against and gives that little height that usually requires a round brush. However, with blonde hair this cool the toner work has to be very precise. Your colorist will cause you to drift warm within a few weeks and the whole mood shifts if not careful.

Soft Pastel Rose-Blonde Textured Pixie with Feathered Side Fringe

#3 Soft Pastel Rose-Blonde Textured Pixie with Feathered Side Fringe

This haircut is trying something creative with color. The end result is soft and almost like a watercolor and not often seen done well on short hair. The fringe is feathered just the right amount so that it doesn’t look blunt and the crown is texturized so that it flows freely and doesn’t look messy. I will say the commitment to color is real here. Pastel colors tend to fade quickly, especially on fine and porous hair, so you’d probably want to discuss a toning gloss schedule with your colorist before you commit.

Short Ash-Blonde Pixie with Feathered Crown and Micro Fringe

#4 Short Ash-Blonde Pixie with Feathered Crown and Micro Fringe

The way the crown cowlick is being incorporated into the design instead of being cut against it is very fitting for this style. That natural lift at the top gives an energetic quality which is hard to achieve with flatter hair. Micro fringes are also a very good way to keep the forehead from feeling too exposed which is something to consider if you are going this short. The ashy blonde with lowlights brings some elegance to the look without being too bright or trying too hard. This style is best suited for oval and heart shapes. It really comes down to the confidence to show the ears and temples as that is more of a personal preference than a face shape consideration.

Plum-Berry Tapered Pixie with Soft Side-Fringe

#5 Plum-Berry Tapered Pixie with Soft Side-Fringe

I noticed the color first. That plum root smudge is doing exactly what it should, masking the grey at the bottom but allowing the mid-lengths to hold something a little richer and more intentional. It reads as a woman who chose this color as opposed to someone who is covering something up, and that distinction is important. The cut is clean and unfussy, short at the nape and with just enough length through the fringe to soften the look around the eyes. This is the kind of pixie that will still look good at week four, not just on the day you leave the salon, which is honestly the most important test.

Vibrant Copper Micro-Textured Pixie with Ear-Contouring Taper

#6 Vibrant Copper Micro-Textured Pixie with Ear-Contouring Taper

In my opinion, the ear contouring is a nice touch. It really softens the look around the temples, and makes the whole cut so much more polished. The copper is warm and bold but not too costumy and there’s a little babylight on the outer edge of the fringe that really brightens the brow. On fine/medium hair this degree of edginess can sometimes feel a little sparse but the point cutting and razor work create enough surface texture to feel intentional and airy rather than just thin. The only trade off with a bright copper like this is that it will need color glossing quite often to avoid looking muddy.

Light Ash-Blonde Layered Pixie with Choppy Crown

#7 Light Ash-Blonde Layered Pixie with Choppy Crown

The choppy layers at the crown give finer hair types the illusion of more fullness. Looking closely, I can see some ash-silver strands right at the part line. Instead of fighting them, they’ve been let to soften the contrast between the blonde and the natural base. That tells me the stylist thinks about how the cut will look in the real world and not just the salon. The only thing I would note is that a lot of crown texture will require some styling in the morning. I would expect that along with some intentional blow drying and perhaps a light texturizing paste, the crown would likely get flat by midday.

Sunlit Textured Pixie with Tapered Temples and Crown Lift

#8 Sunlit Textured Pixie with Tapered Temples and Crown Lift

This is a properly constructed and precise pixie cut that is also a touch and go style cut. The corners are tapered, the sides are cleaned up, and the crown is about two to three inches long to achieve some movement and lift. The stylist has clearly worked with the clockwise crown cowlick, and it is giving all that natural height at the top without the client needing to do a lot. The warm ash-blonde low lights add interest without the color needing a lot of maintenance. I appreciate the cut for how it draws focus to the cheekbones and, flattering, it draws the eye inward toward the center of the face.

Peach-Blonde Textured Pixie with Tapered Sides and Feathered Micro-Fringe

#9 Peach-Blonde Textured Pixie with Tapered Sides and Feathered Micro-Fringe

The peach balayage with rose tones is lovely and warm without being saccharine; the root shadow is enough to keep it from looking as though it is floating. The feathered micro fringe here does something subtly crucial; it breaks up what would otherwise be a very empty forehead and gives the whole thing a gentler entry point. This is a case where the natural cowlick at the crown is doing most of the shaping and the stylist has been smart enough to allow it. You’d want a matte paste to keep the piecey texture, but the overall shape is forgiving enough that it looks good even when it loosens up a lot.

Textured Golden-Blonde Pixie with Tapered Nape and Crown Lift

#10 Textured Golden-Blonde Pixie with Tapered Nape and Crown Lift

The ratio of the top to the nape is very successful, the back is cut short but there is enough length on top, 1.5 to 2 inches, that it still registers as a style and not just a haircut. The golden-blonde is warm and beautifully brightens the complexion, plus the root shadow gets you by without having to sit in my chair every 3 weeks. The small crown cowlick is great because it provides a natural lift, and honestly, those are a gift on a pixie this short. Don’t fight it, just let it work.

Cropped Copper Pixie with Textured Crown and Tapered Temples

#11 Cropped Copper Pixie with Textured Crown and Tapered Temples

This is the type of cut in which the precision can make or break it, and they executed it perfectly.nThe graduated nape, the clipper taper at the temples, and the subtle micro-fringe asymmetry all come together for a look that is both intentional and effortless. The copper hue is rich while still being understated. On a client over 50, I find that a warm red like this truly livens up the complexion.nThe downside to red is that it is the most high-maintenance color family. It fades very quickly and shifts tones rapidly, so if you prefer not to think about your color in between appointments, I would not steer you this way. However, if you are up for a color depositing shampoo or gloss every few weeks the maintenance is endless.

Warm Chestnut Textured Pixie with Long Crown Layers

#12 Warm Chestnut Textured Pixie with Long Crown Layers

The outermost crown layers of this cut are longer than you’d expect, about 2 to 3 inches, which gives a lifted, slightly quiffed appearance. I think this is really nice for women who want a pixie cut with a little more height on the top. The chestnut color is warm and rich, and its not dark enough to create a harsh contrast with the skin. There are also babylights on the top that really help to catch the light. I would say that this type of shape does depend on a little bit of product, as it’ll require some paste to keep those layers quite directional and prevent the quiff from becoming flat.

Airy Platinum Pixie with Feathered Fringe and Tapered Temples

#13 Airy Platinum Pixie with Feathered Fringe and Tapered Temples

Absolutely. Platinum hair really pops on a pixie cut. What I like most about this example is the way the cut balances the boldness with softness everywhere else. The soft feathered bangs, the almost no sideburns look, and a silouhette overall that has a softness to it that prevents it from feeling too rough or edgy. I think the root shadow is subtle but actually very useful. It gives the platinum some depth and means you won’t be working with a harsh line of demarcation at three weeks. Where you have to be careful with a cut like this is at the crown. If it isn’t cut with enough internal layering, platinum hair at this length can lie very flat and look quite helmet-y. So, whoever maintains this will need to have a good idea about where the volume is and how to maintain it.

Short Soft Chocolate Pixie with Subtle Curtain Fringe

#14 Short Soft Chocolate Pixie with Subtle Curtain Fringe

The curtain fringe is not a statement but rather works because of the suggestion. It has a nice balance since it does not completely cover the forehead, something a lot of stylists miss when cutting bangs on a pixie. Chocolate tones is something that almost everyone can pull off and regrowth is forgiving. So, if you want something polished and low maintenance, this is a great option.  The crown whorl gives natural lift and the razor point cutting gives just the right amount of separation. This helps keep it looking fresh instead of blunt and helps it textured.

Textured Auburn Pixie with Feathered Fringe

#15 Textured Auburn Pixie with Feathered Fringe

I love how the overall shape works with the micro scalloped fringe. It does resemble a straight-across bang, and it does resemble a side-sweep, but it really isn’t. What it really is, is a micro scalloped edge that tracks along the natural movement of the hair, and very discreetly and organically softens the face. The combination of warm copper and lowlights creates a visual texture that gives the appearance of more hair than is actually there. The stacked nape keeps the back clean and neat and maintains shape well between haircuts. This is a pixie for someone wanting warmth and softness without length, and it delivers.

Copper Textured Pixie with Feathered Top and Soft Side Fringe

#16 Copper Textured Pixie with Feathered Top and Soft Side Fringe

The extended feathered top gives this style a unique shape compared to most ultra-short Pixies. It provides a more traditionally balanced shape with the weight sitting higher. The warm copper shade is well-balanced and the babylights framing the face really catch the light and brighten the entire eye area. I like that the stylist chose to work with the natural cowlick for volume rather than against it; that type of decision is what I call a ten-minute-morning-saver. The longer top does mean more maintenance, though. The trade-off is the longer top pieces will need daily styling with a paste or wax to keep the pieces separated and in a directional style, otherwise, it can look a bit flat by the afternoon.

Soft Angled Pixie with Side-Swept Micro Fringe and Root Shadow

#17 Soft Angled Pixie with Side-Swept Micro Fringe and Root Shadow

This haircut may look longer in the photos, but it is shorter than it looks. The Crown is about 1 to 2 inches, the rest is brought in tight with a soft tapered nape. The angled layers paired with the side-swept micro-fringe help to soften the look across the face. This design is meant to draw the eye across in a shape-circular way, and not in a direct manner. The root smudge combined with babylights creates dimension and keeps regrowth from being a problem for the first few weeks. I would choose this shape for clients that work with fine hair and desire more structure and definition than a typical cropped pixie.

Platinum Textured Pixie with Airy Side-Swept Fringe

#18 Platinum Textured Pixie with Airy Side-Swept Fringe

The razor-texturing technique used on this cut is well distributed enough to create adequate separation in the layers to make the platinum look luminous rather than flat. That is the tricky part about going this light at this length. Without internal texture, platinum pixies can look solid and blocky, almost like a wig, so the fact this one doesn’t is a good sign of good cutting. The root melt gives it a lived-in look which I always prefer to a full bleach-to-the-scalp. The shape is modern and minimal, and the surface texture is what keeps it interesting. This works best on straight to slightly wavy hair, anything coarser would need a different approach.

Short Textured Chestnut Micro-Pixie with Feathered Crown

#19 Short Textured Chestnut Micro-Pixie with Feathered Crown

A feathered crown at an inch or two starts to feel a bit more like a style statement than an ultra utilitarian cut. The warmth of the chestnut is great and I love the natural tones and lowlights running through. The crown would take the gloss really beautifully if you wanted to shift the tone for the season. Of all the things I love about this haircut, the best is how the temple taper draws the eye up to the cheekbones. When the proportions are right, it creates a very architectural effect. I honesty think a bit of a trade off with this length is limited variety, but for the right person having one look that works perfectly is actually a relief.

Soft Textured Warm-Brunette Pixie with Feathered Crown

#20 Soft Textured Warm-Brunette Pixie with Feathered Crown

I think the deliberate placement of the highlights on the cut is worth mentioning. The highlights were not thrown on haphazardly; they work in conjunction with the cut. The fine golden highlights create the illusion of added depth, and as the light moves and reflects off the highlights, they are placed to capture that movement. The feathered layers on the crown section create a gradual build-up to a greater height without added bulk from about half an inch at the nape to about two inches on top. The warm brunette color with root shadow is perfect for gradually blending the greys. What I would like my clients to understand is that the bangs of this haircut are so soft that some morning styling will be required to make them sit right, they won’t just fall perfectly into place.

Chic Short Chestnut Pixie with Textured Micro-Fringe

#21 Chic Short Chestnut Pixie with Textured Micro-Fringe

I value how a stylist focuses on the small forward cowlicks at the hairline that affect the fringe kick, and instead of attempting to smooth it, they go with it. The back is kept clean with a short tapered nape, and the crown has real lift from the razor-pointed layers. It’s a pretty straightforward chestnut, but the color is in this case a bonus because it’s one of those cuts that’s more about the architecture. The shape is doing all the work. This is a really effective way to achieve that if you want your hair to frame your face (and eyes) without competing.

Soft Stacked Strawberry Blonde Pixie with Feathered Crown

#22 Soft Stacked Strawberry Blonde Pixie with Feathered Crown

Obtaining short hair with an airy, light quality can be tricky, but the counter-directional crown layers really help achieve this. This technique consists of cutting layers in a direction that opposes the way the hair naturally falls. This way, the hairs will stand up instead of falling down. When done well, as in this case, it looks quite effortless. The caramel lowlights in the strawberry-blonde color are warm and flattering, giving the skin a healthy glow. I know a lot of clients don’t want to use their blow dryer every morning, and that is why I consider this cut a good air-dry cut. You will still want to put some light-hold product in your hair, but the good news is that heat styling is no longer on the list of things you have to do to get your hair looking how you want it!

Short Feathered Blonde Pixie with Wispy Crown Texture

#23 Short Feathered Blonde Pixie with Wispy Crown Texture

The delicate wispy nature of this cut creates an approachable and soft look, preventing it from appearing too harsh. Each of the micro-fringe, soft side, and crown elevation details looks soft, and I appreciate the softness as it looks intentional rather than done as an afterthought. The babylights with root shadow blending grey hair seamlessly is exactly how they should be working for a cut like this, which is also true for their blending on the client’s hair. I will mention the subtle crown cowlick as it is the type of detail that should be addressed and then handled rather than removed. A few seconds of finger styling with a light product in the morning will keep it from becoming chaotic and help towards contributing to the desired lift.

Short Tousled Layered Pixie with Soft Micro-Fringe

#24 Short Tousled Layered Pixie with Soft Micro-Fringe

This haircut fully embraces and works with the natural wave instead of the typical blowout. Point cutting and some soft razoring work done at the crown helps give that wave some direction, and creates that effortless, “just rolled out of bed” look. The warm babylights blended through the clients natural base do a fantastic job at camouflaging grey hairs without looking like they just walked out of the salon. The micro-fringe is so short that it won’t need much in the way of styling, which I appreciate. This cut will look better tomorrow, as I find that more tussled looks are often more desirable than freshly styled. That’s a quality I always look for.

Soft Blonde Textured Pixie with Micro Fringe

#25 Soft Blonde Textured Pixie with Micro Fringe

It’s great that this style also incorporates root-shadow blonde because it appears to grow out naturally. You won’t have to go through that annoying “I need my roots done” phase. A micro-fringe with choppy point cut layers creates a shape that is energised without being spiky. It looks like the little crown cowlick is pulled up and effortlessly adds volume like the kind of thing that would take you five minutes to do with a round brush. I reckon this particular silhouette does widen a round face for how far the sides reach, and is better suited to oval and heart shapes. It’s an effortless cut that you don’t have to think twice about, and styles itself.

Short Choppy Mahogany Pixie with Wispy Micro-Bangs

#26 Short Choppy Mahogany Pixie with Wispy Micro-Bangs

What makes the fringe unique is the slight asymmetry. One side is cut shorter which creates nice flattering diagonal lines across the forehead. This is particularly nice when used with a higher hairline that you want to avoid bringing attention to. The mahogany shade is also vibrant and rich, and I like it on someone who wants their hair color to be more of a feature than a background part of the look. The razor point cut layers on the crown give a lot of nice texture, but this is a cut that does require a bit of commitment on your end in the morning. A texturizing spray or light paste helps the separation to look intentional because without it, the pieces can lose the shape and merge together.

Chic Layered Textured Pixie Cut

#27 Chic Layered Textured Pixie Cut

This cut isn’t trying to hide the grey, and that’s something I appreciate. Also, the lighter pieces of hair that weave through the natural grey offer a contrast and dimension that I think is a huge benefit over single-process color. I love that the soft feathered bangs are cut to her natural growth pattern because it looks like she just walked out of a salon. I think this is an excellent cut for someone who has been dyeing their hair for years and is finally wanting to embrace their natural grey. The layered shape provides enough movement and interest to the hair so that you won’t miss the color.

Textured Short Pixie with Subtle Highlights

#28 Textured Short Pixie with Subtle Highlights

With this cut, the highlights pop at the most movable layers, so when the light hits the hair, it looks super full and dynamic. This technique works best for fine to medium density hair since that allows for the illusion of volume without the bulk of thicker strands. The created layers also help achieve a more lively and forward shape that draws attention to the eyes and cheekbones. It’s a cut that’s easy to style since the shape does most of the work. However, it does require regular visits for trims to maintain the layers’ definition.

Textured Copper Pixie Cut with Soft Waves

#29 Textured Copper Pixie Cut with Soft Waves

The movement and warmth of the soft waves throughout the copper pixie is very inviting. It doesn’t just look like a “short haircut,” it looks like hair that happens to be short. This is a difference that sets this haircut apart from so many others. The back layering is a little more subtle, but offers overall shape to ensure nape area doesn’t look boxy. The rich vibrant copper shade is stunning, though copper fades faster than just about any color family other than fashion colors. I’d want you to be using a color safe shampoo consistently to prolong the life of the color. This cut genuinely flatters on round or heart shaped faces, and the upkeep is lower than you’d expect for something that looks this polished.

Stylish Textured Pixie with Subtle Highlights

#30 Stylish Textured Pixie with Subtle Highlights

I appreciate the versatility with this cut because the textured layers give you the option to move it and style it different ways based on your mood. You could style it with the hair pushed forward for a softer look or pushed back for more of a finger-directed structured look. The highlights brighten the hair in a way that’s not obvious and adds a polished quality to the cut, whether you’re going out to dinner or running errands. The shorter length is easy to manage which saves time for those who don’t want to spend a lot of time doing their hair. The shape is forgiving enough to still look good even in between trims.

Textured Auburn Pixie Cut with Soft Curls

#31 Textured Auburn Pixie Cut with Soft Curls

This haircut’s most unique aspect is the curls. They appear soft and natural, but they posses enough definition to offer real character and dimension. For medium to fine textured hair, this level of ‘body’ is a real achievement. The expression in the crown layers is providing some lovely, natural lift with the curls, rather than working against the curl formation, and that tells me this specific stylist knows how to engage with the cut as opposed to just employing a stock standard method for straight hair. If you want to keep definition in the curls all day I’d suggest a lightweight curl cream, but the haircut really does most of the work! The rich warm auburn colour is a lovely contrast to the curls.

Textured Copper Curly Pixie Cut

#32 Textured Copper Curly Pixie Cut

This hairstyle is intended for individuals with natural curls who want to showcase their texture rather than avoid it. The asymmetrical layers integrate with the curl pattern to create an effortless look (despite the obvious skill required to achieve this). The vivid copper is a daring choice and I applaud the commitment; Maintaining a bright color like that requires consistent upkeep on curly, porous hair which is a big commitment! This shape works best for heart and oval face shapes as the top volume area will balance out a narrower chin. It is such a happy haircut and I think the lady wearing it knows that!

Chic Textured Pixie with Soft Volume

#33 Chic Textured Pixie with Soft Volume

Your skin tone is complemented nicely by the warm auburn shade. The gentle layers give nice volume without the weight. With regards to the healthy look, it works beautifully with curls or waves for this style because the layers provide space for movement instead of compressing the curls as a blunt cut does. The low maintenance styling adds to the charm. This look is so polished because it only takes a bit of product and some fingers to style it, which a lot of my clients in their fifties ask for.

Softly Textured Asymmetrical Pixie with Subtle Highlights

#34 Softly Textured Asymmetrical Pixie with Subtle Highlights

I appreciate the gentle asymmetry of this cut. One side has a soft wave which adds an interesting detail without making the whole look unbalanced. The highlights do a good job at adding dimension. They illuminate the natural base, which could read flat, but the highlights are well placed to capture light at the movement points of the layers. For someone who has had longer hair and wants to go short, this is a good transitional cut. The asymmetric framing and softness of the texture means it won’t feel too exposed or too harsh.

Textured Short Pixie with Face-Framing Layers

#35 Textured Short Pixie with Face-Framing Layers

The layers of this haircut bring the most attention to the face and create a natural frame around the eyes and cheekbones. Soft waves keep the layers from looking too neat and improve that effect. Subtle highlights brighten the skin better than any makeup. This is great for someone who wants a really flattering cut because of how classic it is. Haircuts with this kind of staying power are underrated.

Modern Textured Pixie with Soft Edges

#36 Modern Textured Pixie with Soft Edges

Unlike your typical cropped pixie, this cut features soft edges. Instead of having hard and defined lines, every section of hair is feathered and blended so that everything tapers into the skin softly at the temples and nape. If you want to downplay the haircut, the softer look is probably more favorable. The layers cut in the crown area provide just the right amount of height to make the cut interesting without making it look like you are trying too hard. This is a quieter cut and that’s the most positive way to put it. It is low maintenance and would look great with some grown-out softness in six weeks.

Textured Short Pixie with Subtle Caramel Highlights

#37 Textured Short Pixie with Subtle Caramel Highlights

This haircut shows how bringing in some color can elevate a whole look. Otherwise, it’s a nice short pixie cut; with it, it looks sun-kissed and 3 dimensional. You can even see a glow on your skin. A client with medium to warm skin tones who wants to brighten up but not go full blonde would be a great candidate for this coloring technique. The light density in the cut makes the layers move freely, and especially on a heart-shaped face, that movement around the jawline and cheeks creates a flattering even frame. The highlights are soft enough that they grow out gracefully.

Softly Textured Ash Blonde Pixie with Face-Framing Layers

#38 Softly Textured Ash Blonde Pixie with Face-Framing Layers

This cut combined with ash blonde is warm enough not to be cold (which is a hard line to walk). Too ashy, and it can dull the complexion, but this one is perfect. Cool enough to be contemporary, warm enough to flatter the skin. The face-framing layers are light and delicate and don’t weigh anything down. They create softness around the temples and cheekbones, which I find especially lovely on someone in their fifties. The way the texture has been constructed is such that the hair looks full but isn’t heavy. That’s what really good cutting should achieve on fine hair.

Sleek Textured Pixie with Side-Swept Bangs

#39 Sleek Textured Pixie with Side-Swept Bangs

This hairstyle featuring side-swept bangs softens the forehead and shifts the focus diagonally across the face. It creates movement even when the hair is still. The bangs also provide a lot of influence and detail to the overall cut. Without the bangs, this style would be another classic and clean pixie cut. With this style, the bangs help to create a clear character and purpose. In my experience, I find this style tends to work best on people with finer hair, as the sleek look is aligned with the hair’s natural tendency. With fine hair, the layering is minimal, creating a clean finish without losing density. If your hair is thicker, then you will need much more aggressive texturing to avoid the cut looking bulky.

Bright Copper Curly Pixie with Textured Layers

#40 Bright Copper Curly Pixie with Textured Layers

This cut is perfect for curls! The copper color and personality make a standard short pixie look amazing. The curls give a full appearance to the overall look. Even if the hair isn’t thick. The textured layers give the curls spring and room to move. The top volume on round or oval faces makes the face look longer. Curly hair is NOT effortless, as it takes time to do the curls, plus touch-ups on the copper color. Straight hair lacks the energy that this cut needs and I’d say the time is worth it, because it’s obviously better than straight hair.

Chic Textured Pixie with Volume and Flare

#41 Chic Textured Pixie with Volume and Flare

The warm tones in this haircut blend nicely with many different skin tones which is not a risky choice but it is still interesting. However, what I find most interesting is the finish which looks a little tousled. Once again, this looks like hair that was just run through quickly, like you just ran fingers through it and just walked out. It’s really easy to do this, but it takes a good haircut for it to look like this. The layers are strategically placed to create volume, especially at the crown and top, where it is needed the most. The narrower side layers help keep the shape closed so the overall look is flattering. This haircut encourages a flattering look (and it’s especially ideal the more you wear it because the shape naturally molds over time). This is the type of haircut that is much easier to manage over time because you’ll learn the best spots to place your hands.

Softly Textured Silver Pixie with Subtle Layers

#42 Softly Textured Silver Pixie with Subtle Layers

I believe it’s time more women start to embrace silver hair, and this cut makes a great argument for it. The beautiful silver hair color is so much more radiant than any box color, and the layers add a lot of texture and movement to the hair so it never looks flat and boring. This type of layering is great for finer hair types because it gives the appearance of more filler hair instead of just removing thickness. The main benefit of this cut that surprises most people is the cheekbone boost that comes with it. Suddenly all that hair is gone, and the bone structure you’ve always had is front and center, and that’s a trade off I think is totally justified.

Textured Short Pixie with Lively Volume

#43 Textured Short Pixie with Lively Volume

I can say the cut looks very natural, which tells me the layers are placed as well as cut to the hair’s natural behavior. On fine to medium textured hair, being able to get this kind of movement with little product is a sign of above average technical work. The overall shape is very nice, and it’s great to see how it draws attention to the clients best features in a subtle way. For those who don’t want to draw focus away from the face, this is great. The hair looks good as is, but with added dimension, a little color in the form of subtle highlights or a slight tonal shift would beautify this shape even more.

Textured Silver Pixie with Soft Layers

#44 Textured Silver Pixie with Soft Layers

The way the light plays off the different lengths in the cut adds a liveliness to the look that shorter silver hair lacks. With silver hair, if the cut is blunt or if there isn’t enough internal texture, the hair can look very one dimensional. In this instance, the soft layering is enough to create movement, and as a result the hair has a lot of beautiful light reflection that makes the hair look alive. It’s really nice for angular face shapes, and more specifically the oval and square shapes, as it brings out the prominence of the cheek and jaw bones. Because this cut is done with your natural color, it’s pretty low maintenance. However, the shape does need to be updated often as it will lose its structure from the layers becoming too blended.

Textured Modern Pixie with Effortless Volume

#45 Textured Modern Pixie with Effortless Volume

The warm brown of this cut adds depth to the hair and, combined with the textured layers, creates a modern and approachable effect. I see that the length increases from the sides to the top, which is typical of a pixie cut. What gives this cut a modern feel is the texture. Rather than being smooth and blown out, the layers move more freely, which creates a relaxed and lived-in style. Surprisingly, this style works for a range of face shapes because the proportions are all balanced. Nothing stands out too long or too tight, and that overall balance is what makes this style flattering for everyone.

Textured Chocolate Pixie with Soft Layers

#46 Textured Chocolate Pixie with Soft Layers

This cut really highlights the cheekbones, which is the most important part. It keeps the back shorter and has a bit more length on top, which is almost standard pixie, but the softer layers on top are cut to fall in a way that loosely focuses on the eyes and center of the face. This technique of layering fine hair especially, helps to enhance movement and make it look fuller. The chocolate color is warm and natural and the tone is close to your own hair. The color has an effortless quality, and so does the style, with a quick finger style you are good to go!

Textured Silver Pixie with Lived-In Layers

#47 Textured Silver Pixie with Lived-In Layers

This cut stands out because of its lived-in quality. It doesn’t look freshly salon-styled, it looks like it’s on day two or three, and looks better for it. That’s a very specific thing to achieve and it comes down to how the layers are cut, with internal texture that separate naturally and create that tousled I-woke-up-like-this quality. On finer hair, this approach works beautifully because the texture creates the illusion of more hair. The silver tone is beautiful on its own, and I think a lightweight texture spray would enhance the separation and movement without weighing anything down.

Charming Soft Silver Pixie with Textured Layers

#48 Charming Soft Silver Pixie with Textured Layers

These layers are custom designed just for her. Instead of being done to a template, they’ve been done to the woman’s face. That is the detail that separates good pixies from great pixies. The silver color is perfectly aged and laundered with confidence. The length is just right for minimal styling with a nice shape and real interest. The subtle layering on that finer hair gives just the right amount of volume without sacrificing bulk. This is a cut that says a lot about its wearer and will carry you from day to evening without the need to be restyled, which is a testament to the quality of the foundational shape.

Textured Silver Pixie with Playful Edges

#49 Textured Silver Pixie with Playful Edges

To describe the personality, crown section of the hair is slightly spiky on the edges, which add to the personality of fun, light-hearted, easy-going but polished. Textured silver tone hair means maybe one spike or piece of hair will catch light and the next will sit flat. The hair is dynamic and smoother in style and this is contrasted to a style of a similar color and more flattened overall look. There is very balanced proportion created for volume that is flattering for oval and heart shape faces. This style is one where you would just want a bit of product as in means that a little wax or paste on fingers will give complete control of how defined or soft those edges should be.

Textured Silver Pixie Cut with Lively Layers

#50 Textured Silver Pixie Cut with Lively Layers

The layers add volume and movement to the hair that would otherwise sit flat, and they are doing a great job at it. The wispy touch of the layers takes an extremely angular look to a more youthful appearance, whilst still maintaining the elegance that comes with silver hair. Achieving that tousled look is easily done with some light mousse or texture spray. That’s one of the most attractive features of a pixie at this length. The shape does require trims fairly regularly but in between appointments, this is a cut that really does behave itself and looks great with little effort.
