#1: Rich Espresso Pixie That Lets Thick Curls Do Their Thing
I have to say, I love this one. The effortless look comes from how the color and the cut work with each other, and while the cut may look effortless, there was a lot of planning that went into it. The curls look phenomenal and the color espresso really adds definition to each twist and coil. With this length, you want to be able to see each piece, and at this length, it’s just right at the ears. With thick curly hair, it’s right at that sweet spot. There’s no need to hold back on the volume and it helps avoid feeling heavy or overwhelming. If you were in my chair, I’d have to tell you that this length means you’re going to have to come back and see me pretty regularly because once it starts to grow out, it loses that shape fast and that’s the part you have to anticipate. Day to day you have to do very little. Just a little bit of cut cream and scrunch and go. This is one of those cuts that makes it look like you spent hours preparing, which is what we really want.
#2 Easy-Going Curly Pixie That Basically Styles Itself
This hairstyle is recommendable because it is adaptable and great for customers who are nervous about trying shorter styles. The uniform cutting of the curls prevents anything from looking choppy or uneven. Combined with the soft texture of the cloud, it also frames the face perfectly. This will look full and lush on anyone, especially if the hair is medium to thick. Less maintenance is needed and that’s the target. For more humid climates, I suggest keeping an anti-humidity serum on hand. curls at this length will become very frizzy because of moisture in the air. But paying the price for the serum is less than the time getting ready for work in the morning.
#3 Defined Ringlets on a Pixie That’s All Volume
For tight coily curls, a good cut that works with the natural shape of your hair really makes a difference. The volume is all natural which gives a really bold look opens up the face especially around the cheekbones and eyes in a way longer styles don’t because all that weight pulls everything down. I think adding some subtle highlights would be great to really accentuate the ringlets, honey or soft copper tones would be perfect but it’s gorgeous without color as well. The tighter the curls, the more it seems to grow out unevenly, so this one’s definitely a regular-trim commitment.
#4 Auburn Curly Pixie Sculpted Close to the Face
The color looks amazing. The warm liveliness of the auburn color along with soft natural curls that hit the face really pops. The layering is very purposeful. You can see where someone added volume and where someone kept it closer to the head. The shape is clean regardless of the free and wild texture. If you want a cut that brings out your features, this is a good hairstyle since no hair will cover your face. I will say that tight curls at this length may look a little less defined as they grow. So, you will probably use a curl refresher more than you think between washing your hair.
#5 Springy Cinnamon Pixie with Layered Volume
What I like most is the way the cut compliments people with finer hair. We don’t hear a lot of that with curly pixies, and it’s because the layers create the illusion of more hair, and the cinnamon tone just warms it up and makes the curls look richer and more defined than if they were left to their own. There’s an approachable softness to it too, but it also brings a lot more focus to the eyes which is a great benefit. At this length though, the thinner curls do run the risk of losing their shape more quickly than other lengths, so you might have to do some extra scrunching and reshaping compared to some of the other cuts on the list, but for the overall effect? It’s totally worth it.
#6 Copper Curly Pixie with an Asymmetric Fringe
This one is amazing! The color is lovely and warm but not too bright which can sometimes be an issue. The asymmetric fringe is editorial and elevates the look. Thick hair? Curls? Perfect excuse to go short. The forehead fringe adds a bit of mystery. Great for heart and oval face shapes. The shape is stunning. Don’t skimp on your trims. Asymmetry gets very dull and boring.
#7 Asymmetrical Curly Pixie with Side-Swept Bangs
The graduation on this cut from shorter in the back to longer towards the face is amazing and is one of those shapes which looks good irl and in photos which is not always the case with asymmetrical cuts. Those deep side-swept bangs do a lot of work here softening everything and drawing the eyes in a flattering way regardless of face shape. This is a style that works best on medium to high density hair because you need enough hair to create that volume on top without looking sparse. I’ll be honest though, the upkeep on asymmetrical cuts is more than people expect… if you don’t stay on top of it, it just turns into a regular pixie that grows out in an odd way.
#8 Caramel-Highlighted Curly Pixie for Busy Mornings
When your hair is styled like this, all you need to do is wash it, add some curl mousse, diffuse for a minute, and you’re out the door looking fabulous! The highlights step up this look a notch and make a basic haircut classy. There isn’t a lot of time and thought spent on your hair, and I know that will resonate with a lot of my clients! In a couple months, the brownish brassy color will need a touch up, but with curly hair you can’t get a simpler cut than this!
#9 Deep Side Part Curly Pixie with Dark Roots
I love a deep side part on a curly pixie because it creates great asymmetry, and great styling, without needing an asymmetrical cut (if that makes sense?). The curls are just allowed to pile up with volume and texture, and that deep part gives a great heavy swoop across the forehead, which suits most face shapes. The dark roots and lighter ends is a great call because you won’t have to chase your color as often and it looks better as it grows out. I wouldn’t suggest this one for straight hair because you would have to deal with a wand every morning to get something that should be totally effortless. With curly hair though, it’s just a little fancy and a little messy.
#10 Bronze-Toned Curly Pixie with a Soft Fringe
The bronze color shifts depending on the light, making it all the more special. On a curly texture, each coil will catch the light differently. The fringe is soft and so it doesn’t look harsh, and the way it falls softens and frames her face. If you have oval features or a heart-shaped face it will be very flattering but I feel like this style works for more people than that because the softness of the curls is very forgiving. This is a noce statement piece and it is loud. This style achieves the look very well.
#11 Golden Spiral Pixie with Root-to-Tip Graduation
Color is the real star of this look. The way the tones transition from a deeper shade at the roots to warm, golden-tipped highlights is breathtaking, and makes each spiral look so defined and sculpted. And on a pixie cut? That effect is just stunning. You get so much added movement and dimension to the style, even when you’re standing completely still. This look is also ideal for medium to high-density curls, giving you an incredibly full and lush look, like a crown of golden spirals – which is a pretty accurate description. The root to tip color effect is gorgeous, but it does require a lot of upkeep. The light pieces will need toning appointments to prevent them from turning yellow, and the curls will require regular touch ups to keep them defined. The good news is with this style, the color and cut do most of the work so daily styling is super easy!
#12 Espresso Layered Pixie with Light-Catching Highlights
The light layers at the top do not take away all the weight, but just enough to allow for movement and keeping the fullness at the top. The espresso color is gorgeous and the highlights are just tiny pieces of color that reflect light and add a ton of dimension to your hair. It’s the type of color that gets people talking about how amazing your hair looks, but they just can’t put a finger on it. It looks great as is but I would recommend using a diffuser to style your curls for your hair to look its best. However, this hairstyle won’t be a hassle to maintain.
#13 Chestnut Curly Pixie with a Light Layered Back
The shorter layered back really takes the weight off the back and shows off the curls on top. With medium to thick hair the back section can get really heavy and pull everything down, but here it is cut to keep the silhouette clean and maintain volume where you want it. The chestnut base with light highlights gives depth to the curls and even defines them on second and third day hair, which is a plus. I think the way this frames everything is universally flattering but especially oval and heart shaped faces. Shape maintenance is also important. Once the back section starts growing out, it changes the whole balance.
#14 Bouncy Chestnut Tendril Pixie with Root Volume
Look at the curl pattern in the face framing and root lifting curls. It’s so airy and weightless – gorgeous! This is a cut that embraces the natural texture in your hair. It’s not about changing things – it’s about creating some nice framing structure. The way the curls fall around the cheeks and forehead give round and heart shaped faces a nice softening effect. The only thing to mention is that these defined curls require some moisture. Plan to spend a decent amount on a curl enhancer and use it religiously as your curls will lose their shine and definition without it. Aside from that, the daily upkeep is very low, which I appreciate.
#15 Deep Chocolate Curly Pixie, Short and Full-Bodied
This hairstyle is the epitome of luxury! The deep chocolate color enhances the bouncy shine of the curls, and the cut manages to control the volume while also maintaining a look that’s far from flat or boring. If you have thick curly hair and want to keep your length but a short cut, this is the design you want. The layers create an even balance and help deflect all the hair off the face. It looks particularly stunning on people with oval faces but, honestly, it looks amazing on anyone! You’ll have to make sure to stay on top of hydration, though. To keep your curls from looking dry and frizzy, a deep conditioning mask is required weekly or bi-weekly. The best part about this cut is that it is very low maintenance. That’s really the beauty of a cut like this – it’s super easy to style! It really comes down to how well the haircut was executed.
