An old money bob is a bob that looks expensive and classy, never out of style and always trendy. I was able to see how incredibly old money a bob could look on my client, who has sported the style for over 20 years. She wasn’t locked into that style out of fear of change, in fact she liked the haircut so much that it was a timeless style, and didn’t want to get rid of it. It’s almost as if this cut is a type of philosophy. It’s not about getting the new haircut or the latest style, it’s about that hairstyle being ingrained into a person’s identity. You would refer to them by that haircut.
The old money bob haircut philosophy isn’t just about a cut, it’s about the quality and the attention to detail that the cut has. You can get this haircut in so many different ways, whether you want a softer, warmer, more dimensional look or a darker look with more edgy, pronounced features. There is so much variation to work with. I absolutely love these types of haircuts and I have a collection of them in my portfolio!

#1: Smooth Long Bob with Barely-There Layers
A defining feature of this haircut is the effortless appearance. The extra layers move beautifully and really showcase the full look.nnFor fine hair, this length is ideal as it offers possible control, but the layers prevent it from appearing dull and uninteresting. Consider a warm, rich, and naturally colored option which reflects light softly.nnAbove all, this hairstyle is framed beautifully around the face in such a way that is quite difficult to achieve in a haircut.

#2 Angular Bob with a Whisper of Layering
A bob haircut with this length and gentle angle is classic, stylish and elegant. There is just enough layering for added movement and for the cut to show off that, oh-so-valuable, clean line. The color creates a subtle gradient that provides depth and dimension, even if it’s not super apparent. Hair like this honestly just keeps improving, and although a quick round brush makes it look polished, it still looks great the next day.

#3 Silver Feathered Bob with Easy, Natural Movement
I really like this haircut because it’s very manageable. The feathering is just enough and not excessive and helps create nice softness to the face. The color looks beautiful as well. The silver is shiny and has asymmetry which I think helps it avoid looking too uniform. If you are already leaning into your natural silver, this hairstyle will really accentuate it because the layers are very light reflective. This look is great for thin hair as long as you are okay with using some volumizing root spray every once in a while.

#4 Airy Blonde Wavy Bob That Feels Effortless
When it comes to styles of this nature, the most important aspect by far is the texture, and the waves do not need to be perfect or have the use of an iron, because it helps the hair look more natural, and more lived in. To me, a lot of styles I find to be more boring than this. I think the light blonde shade is stunning, however due to the commitment required to maintain the color, for those looking to cover grey, it wouldn’t be ideal. Regrowth is more noticeable with blonde, and sticks show quicker than closer to natural shades. But if that brightness is something that you love, then this color is going to look perfect on you. It will also look great with the medium length, which strikes a good balance with how often you’ll need to maintain that color.

#5 Feathered Silver with Brightness Around the Face
Face framing is really lovely and picks up the light around the hairline. It opens up the entire style. This is one of those tricks that feels insignificant but actually changes everything. The rest of the layering is tactical and not overly heavy. It also needs to have enough movement that the hair feels dense. I will say you want to stay on top of your appointments, as the freshness of the layers and the colour dimension is what makes this style special, and both tend to soften over time without regular maintenance.

#6 Warm Golden Waves with Lived-In Texture
I appreciate the way the golden blonde color warms the look of it and shines almost glowing. The waves look really loose and relaxed, almost like they were done with a curling wand with a large barrel in like ten minutes, which seems fair as it’s a daily style. This type of style gives finer hair some chance because the texture and movement create the look of fullness, without the hair having to do all the work. The color will require some maintenance to stay this bright and you will need to keep the ends tidy, so that the waves look intentional and not scraggly. That being said, it’s not a ton of daily styling.

#7 Silver Feathered Bob That Does the Work for You
Having short hair at the back looks amazing and brings a lot of shape and volume to the style. You don’t even have to style it every morning. The silver color looks stunning and so realistic, and the feathering is soft and beautiful. When it comes to the maintenance of layered hair, a wash and a quick blow dry to reshape it is about as easy as it gets. My only concern is that feathered layers will need regular upkeep to keep looking separated. They will blend as they grow, so if you like the look, you will want to plan a touch up every six weeks.

#8 Brunette Waves with Layers That Lift
The cut feels nice. It has a lightness to it, but enough weight so that the hair moves with purpose. The face-framing layers soften the look without having to conceal anything, and the warmth of the rich brunette shade grounds the whole look. This cut is the best type; it looks fantastic when you leave the salon, and three weeks later it still looks amazing. It is the best compliment. With a little wave and volume, it can really reach its full potential. It holds its shape even on days when you don’t put a lot of effort into it.

#9 Light Blonde Layered Bob with Feathered Ends
A good way to camouflage fine hair without bringing attention to it is to have a feathered finish which makes the hair look fuller and more alive. Textured layers in the middle create the illusion of having less hair rather than just having it hang. The light blonde color is beautiful, but colors like that require a lot of maintenance, especially if your natural color is darker due to the contrast. With that in mind, the actual styling is too big of a tradeoff in this case.

#10 Copper Rounded Bob with a Soft Fringe
I admit that I have a small crush on this copper tone as it brightens and warms the complexion in a lovely, flattering way and without being over the top. Rounded bobs are always great for hair that has lost a bit of its density, as the cut itself provides that illusion of fullness and bounce. That soft fringe also brings the focus right in which is always a good thing. The shape of the hair does need to be trimmed regularly though in order to keep it looking sharp; a rounded shape tends to lose its purpose very quickly as it grows out. On the bright side, daily styling is a breeze. Just a bit of round brushing and blow drying? Easy as pie!

#11 Cinnamon Waves with Richly Layered Dimension
This color is stunning in person! The soft cinnamon tone has plenty of variation throughout the layers, so it looks like it has been developed over time instead of being placed. The waves also aren’t fussy; their medium length makes it easy to wear this to dinner or the grocery store. If you have thicker hair, you’ll find that the layers work wonders for you, as they take away just the right amount of weight to create movement and flow instead of being stuck in a heavy block. The color will need to be refreshed to stay like this, but the cut is very forgiving in the meantime.

#12 Graduated Blonde Bob with Lowlights for Depth
I have always adored a graduated bob, especially how the stacking at the back creates shape and built-in volume with the cut. The lowlights help add dimension and without having to come in for a full color service every few weeks, lowlights gracefully grow out and continue to look intentional longer than highlights. If your hair is fine, this is a especially good option because the graduation makes up for what the hair can’t provide in terms of body. The length is short enough that shaping is needed regularly, but maintenance is genuinely minimal between visits.

#13 Brunette Bob with a Gentle Curl
This hair cut style shows many different skills, one of which is how the hair sits around the jaw line and then turns up. This length will also hit just above the shoulders for many women which is ideal, as it means the hair will be long enough to keep a soft and feminine feeling, but it’s also short enough to be manageable. When your stylist refers to internal thinning, that’s what will give your hair that weightless and airy feeling, and if your hair is on the thicker side, this will be your new best friend. The highlights are subtle and just serve to break up the solid brunette and add some life to the color, which I personally think is always the right move if you want depth without drama.

#14 Espresso Rounded Bob with a Polished Finish
Espresso is a great color that adds warmth to the entire look. It really is the type of shade that gives a healthy, radiant glow to the skin, and those qualities are really nice to have as we age. The rounded contour is nice and very intentional. With medium-straight, straight, or even rounded hair it sits nicely, and it fits with minimal effort. If you feel like your roots look a bit flat by the afternoon, I suggest texturizing or volumizing powder at the crown. I know many of my clients, even if they don’t say it, want a wash and go look, and for the most part, that’s just what this is.

#15 Golden Windswept Layers with Natural Movement
The beautiful golden tones in this bob are warm and inviting and create a stunning look that is lovely in photos but even more amazing in person. This bob has incredible shine and looks even better in the sunlight with multi-dimensional color, soft layers and highlights that create a windswept effect. The layers in this bob are sculpted and designed so that each layer naturally falls and flows instead of being flat and static. This is especially true for those with finer hair. This is one of those styles that looks like you spent a lot of time getting it done but it is actually the opposite and will save you a lot of time in the morning!

#16 Copper Layers with a Modern Edge
I really love the confidence that comes with this jaw-length cut. The copper color looks warm and glowing against fair skin. The layers look soft and more approachable, while also keeping some edge thanks to the back undercut. That undercut is functional here because it removes bulk from underneath so the top layers fall more naturally. That means less styling and more lift. If you get frustrated with your hair feeling heavy at the nape, this type of hidden undercut is really worth it. The cut is so easy, though you will have to do touch-ups to the copper color to keep it this vivid.

#17 Caramel Bob with Contouring Layers
This bob has layers that compliment the natural structure of the face by falling along the jaw and cheekbones in an unintentional flattering way. The warm caramel tone is friendly and brightens the strands to give the fine hair a more expensive look. Single process colors look flat, but this one does not. This style requires a little work, and with a quick blow out it will look amazing. I think a good bob is one that also holds up well on its own, and this one does.

#18 Golden Bob with a Natural Gray Blend
I admire how your natural gray hair is treated with such confidence. The golden and silver tones look like they’ve been designed to look that way. The addition of layers adds thinning hair volume and movement. A little face frame asymmetry is a nice touch and modernizes the whole look quite a bit. The beauty of this style is in the color contrast, and to maintain that relationship between gold and silver is going to take some effort, but the daily upkeep is a breeze.

#19 Silver Bob with Wispy Bangs
This haircut and fine hair type are a perfect match. The bob is clean and light, and the wispy bangs are just right so they don’t overpower the face or make it look like the hair is trying to do something it isn’t. The natural gray is lovely and bright and I love the clean and dignified look it has compared to dyed silver. For some body, and without any stiffness or weight, I suggest putting a volumizing mousse through damp hair before blow drying. This haircut takes care of itself, just make sure to keep the ends trimmed every six to eight weeks.

#20 Tawny Stacked Bob with Softened Angles
I love this tawny-chestnut color. This color is warm and deep enough to not be too harsh against mature skin. The stacking at the back gives good lift and nicely makes up for thinning. The slight angle at the front pieces makes the whole style softer so it’s not too structured. This looks great on hair of almost any density that is straight to wavy. The cut is doing that work. Because the length is shorter, you’ll notice growth quicker, so be prepared to come in fairly regularly for shaping to maintain that line at the nape.

#21 Asymmetrical Silver Bob with Textured Ends
An example of asymmetry with a bob might sound more dramatic than it actually is, but this cut is the complete opposite. The subtle difference in length between sides makes it stand out in an interesting way that isn’t too edgy while the ends are softened to keep everything looking nice. For finer, silver hair, this cut is great because it gives an illusion of fullness with shape and texture rather than relying on the hair itself. It needs a little bit of styling post-wash and it will hold its shape nicely. It only takes a few minutes with a hair dryer and your fingers. But in between washes it still behaves well on its own.

#22 Taupe Rounded Bob with a Side-Swept Fringe
A rounded bob looks good on so many people, and I love the surprise element of the side-swept bangs. The shape of the rounded bob creates volume in the back, and since the bangs will fall to one side, it’s pretty much a set-it-and-forget-it style. The ash taupe is a beautiful, unique color that is warm and cool at the same time and pairs well with a variety of different skin tones. This style will require regular trims to keep that nice shape, but the effort required to maintain it is pretty low compared to how nice it looks.

#23 Deep Chocolate Bob with a Sweeping Part
This chocolate hue looks soft and rich and the sweeping side part is so flattering. The cut ends at the cheekbone and creates the illusion of fullness which is great if you have thinner hair. Plus, a darker shade means your gray roots will show up sooner compared to a lighter color, and that’s something to consider for your appointments. However, in terms of maintenance it’s not that bad and this is a style you can just shake and go.

#24 Silver Silk Smooth Bob
This bob is sophisticated. Although it looks like it can be a bit of a quick cut, a lot of work goes into a cut like this. Since all the hairs are cut to the same length, it is easy to create a dense look, and with the little flip at the ends, the cut gives an added professional, expensive look. This style is best suited for medium and thick hair as it falls into place better with the added weight. This is one of the few styles where you actually want that density to work for you and help with the look. Maintaining the cut will require regular trims, but it definitely pays off with a polished, clean look even if you haven’t done anything to it.

#25 Chestnut Bob with Sun-Kissed Dimension
A new haircut should make you feel good more than once, and with chestnut bob hairstyles you won’t need to have long conversations. The warm highlights make it look like you’ve spent time somewhere sunny which adds thickness to your hair. The layers are subtle which prevents any drastic changes, but they stop the shape from being too flat or dull. This type of haircut is the kind that you can let air dry and it will still look good.

#26 Ash Blonde Layered Bob with Shoulder-Length Flow
I think ash blonde is beautiful on ladies who are aging and going gray. It is a cool color, so the roots and color blend together nicely and keep a soft contrast rather than a hard line. The layers here give just the right amount of movement to medium-density hair to feel alive while keeping all of the fullness you want to keep. Having this length just touching the shoulders is versatile enough to be pulled back if needed right but short enough to dry and style quickly. Ash tones can drift brassy over time, so I recommend a purple shampoo in between appointments to keep everything cool and clean.

#27 Sleek Tawny Bob with Textured Ends
I like how this hairstyle is calm and has a nice simplicity to it. It shows great confidence allowing the style to speak for itself. The collar bone length blunt cut is so clean and the ends are textured for just enough detail to keep it interesting without over complicating it. The warm brown color feels natural and soft and compliments the complexion well. The hairstyle is effortlessly sleek, and I can tell it won’t take much work to achieve it. You can just get out of the shower, run a brush through it, and bam, you’re out the door. That is a huge achievement.

#28 Silver Layered Bob That Blends Beautifully
Getting a haircut during any period of transition can be difficult, but this style can help settle the discomfort. The layering on this cut creates a lot of movement which helps with blending various colors. Also, the face framing layers soften the look and help with the overall aesthetic. This cut has a medium length which allows for lower maintenance, however, the layers also create the volume fine hair tends to miss out on which means no more teasing needed to achieve that. Overall, this cut is very simple but also very well designed.

#29 Soft Textured Bob That Catches the Light
This cut is very nice, it has an ease to it that is relaxed and confident. The different layers create texture and catch the light at different angles which looks amazing in natural light. This bob has that kind of feel of having just happened. It’s actually a super skilled cut to give that effortless vibe. A light styling cream on damp hair will keep the waves defined, but won’t dry them crunchy. A super good option if you want a cut that looks effortess when the truth is, it takes effort.

#30 Shaggy Textured Bob with Warmth and Depth
It’s a little more fun than most. The shaggy texture and style is fun, and I think it suits people who are fun and who don’t take themselves too seriously. These light shades, in a manner of speaking, do what low lights do, but in a brightening way, as it lightens/deepens the depth. The combination is lots of everything going on. The soft delicate layering around the face is just soft, and I think it’s particularly flattering as skin ages and changes. It’s not fussy and that’s part of the charm.

#31 Voluminous Textured Bob with Natural Body
A haircut that lets the texture take the lead. Soft layers add to the natural movement and a slightly tousled finish provide that I-woke-up-like-this™ look that everyone wants (and very few cuts actually pull off it). If you have naturally wavy or bendy hair, this cut works with, rather than against, which is super easy for you. The best this works for is fine to medium hair because the layers give you that volume you may be missing. Just a bit of product to finish off the texture and you’re good to go.

#32 Blunt Bob with Textured Bangs
I like the clean subtle cut of the bob and the bangs that are a bit texturized. The bob it sitting precisely at my jaw and the bangs add a touch of softness which helps to avoid it being too harsh. On a fine to medium hair type, this type of blunt cut would work better than a layered cut, as it gives the illusion of more thickness. The bangs will need to be trimmed regularly to avoid them falling into your eyes and to maintain that more intentional look. The bob will hold its shape better inbetween hair appointments.

#33 A-Line Bob with Soft Texture
A line cut is good on everyone because the longer front pieces frame the face and the shorter pieces in the back lighten up the overall feeling of the cut. The soft layers here allow movement so the hair doesn’t sit stiffly in a triangle, which is the main risk with an A-line that’s not cut well. I think there is a natural and approachable look to the relaxed quality of the wave. If you have thick hair, you may need some internal texturizing so the shape doesn’t get heavy, but this is more than enough on fine to medium hair.

#34 Softly Textured Silver Bob at the Jawline
The light silver color is wonderful! The layers allow the hair to fall just below the jawline which I find looks best when styled straight because the cut adds interest where there’s a lack of texture. It also helps to sort of soften the jaw which is great for those with a square or oval face shape. This is a cut you can wear every day, but as it grows out, just make sure you get some light layers to keep it from taking on a shape that you don’t want.

#35 Layered Bob with Pieces That Fall Just Right
For this cut, I see that the strands that frame the face are doing something quite specific. They are directing the look towards the center and softening the features. It’s a small detail but it changes the whole impression of the style. The length that is just above the shoulders is both easy to manage and versatile; and the lighter texture keeps everything youthful without being too much. Fine hair may require a little more help to maintain volume during the day but this cut is forgiving and gets better with age between appointments. If you ever want to add warmth, a subtle balayage would look nice through these layers.

#36 Textured Bob with Highlights That Feel Natural
This bob is just above the jawline which makes it easy to maintain the fresh look but also long enough to tuck, behind the ear, when needed. Highlights help the hair color and look good in a natural way. The final look has fullness because of the layers and movement they provide at the end. A bob on fine hair like this offers fullness in texture and appearance while still maintaining hair density. Volumizing products on flat hair days will help the bob look fresh and add to fullness. Other than that, it will just needed regular maintenance on the cut.

#37 Wavy Textured Bob with Youthful Movement
The undulating waves in this bob are what give this style its personality. The waves are loose and feel natural, and create a sense of fullness that the hair may not have otherwise. It is one of those styles that really naturally bridges the gap between polished and casual. You could wear this to lunch or to the theatre and it would feel appropriate for both. The layered cut takes out enough weight so that the waves have room to form without getting heavy. A little sea salt spray on damp hair and some scrunching is all you need to encourage the texture.

#38 Modern Bob with Clean, Soft Layers
I’m more inclined to understand the refinement of this cut because of the precision of the layers, rather than any one singular, dramatic feature. It is clear that the length is edged to just above the shoulders, the layers seem to gently blend into one another, and the soft gray tones appear utterly natural. The overall cut manages to strike a sophisticated look without being overly stiff, something that many cuts tend to aim for but so few actually achieve. I also value the fact that the fine, straight hair, has been worn down here rather than compensated for. The layers will soften as they grow out and you will want to sharpen them regularly but this is a very easy cut to live with.

#39 Textured Bob with Waves That Frame and Flatter
I like how relaxed this bob is. The waves look really soft and natural. They look like they are sculpted, but they could just be from the wind. They also help with framing the face, but they don’t look like they are trying to do anything. The ends are at the jaw line so it stays even. The light layering gives movement but doesn’t change the weight too much. The cut is great for fine and medium hair because the texture makes it look fuller, and with the natural color, it keeps maintenance low. It is super easy to live with the cut and is very flattering. You forget that you’re wearing it because it just feels like you.

#40 Textured Bob with Waves and Quiet Highlights
I love how the highlights add lift and dimension without altering the base color. The movement and waves bring the bob to life, and the chin-length cut is super flattering on so many face shapes. If you’re ready to be bold and own your gray, this option is excellent because the silver highlights will work with (rather than against) your gray. Keeping the waves won’t require a ton of maintenance, so you won’t be spending a lot of time in the bathroom.

#41 Textured Bob with Rounded Softness
The soft edges on this style give this bob an elegant vintage feel. It’s a shoulder length bob which makes it long enough so you can style it in a few different ways, and the soft layers give movement without breaking the overall silhouette. The color looks like someone lightly painted it and the subtle variations keep it interesting without being distracting. It is elegantly simple, and the modern touch is perfect to keep it from feeling dated, which is ideal for a style you will be wearing everyday.

#42 Textured Bob with Easy, Natural Volume
Some styles look great in photos, but tend to disappoint in real life, although I think this one would be the opposite. I think this style will look better on you in day-to-day activities. The length that sits just above the shoulders is that perfect length where it’s manageable without feeling too short. The subtle layers provide enough volume to give fine to medium hair that fullness that one-length cuts take away. The texture is just enough to give it life without having to fight to create something the cut isn’t designed to, which is always the goal.

#43 Textured Bob with a Soft, Pretty Fringe
The bangs have an ideal softness; cut thick enough to give a statement and light enough to not be too much with fine hair. This looks great with a textured bob as it gives a chic and polished look, which I love. The above the shoulder length keeps it versatile and the layers create dimension to make the hair look thicker and more fun. A light texturizing spray will keep the ends of the hair looking nice and airy in between washes.

#44 Modern Chin-Length Bob with Soft Definition
Chin-length haircuts can go both ways. Luckily, this one is gorgeous! The soft layers are really nice, and sit perfectly for face framing. I also find it very attractive how the grays are left open and honest. For this length, the hair’s fine to medium density works best. It has just the right amount of weight to hold the shape and not too much for it to look bulky. This style will look intentional with regular haircuts. It requires daily upkeep, but this is a good cut. Good cuts do a lot of work for you, and this is one of them.

#45 Curly Bob with Playful Body
I wish I could see more curly bobs; it makes me sad because when they’re good, they’re *really* good. This chin-length cut allows the curls to do their thing instead of forcing the curls to be tamed, and the gentle layers remove just the right amount of weight for the curls to bounce and spring instead of being pulled down and deflated. The layered bangs are a great addition because they bring *the* curls to the face in a nice, intentional way. This cut is best suited for medium to thick hair. Most of the work is done just by the shape of the bob, but you’ll need a good curl-defining cream to keep things looking good.

#46 Softly Waved Bob at the Jawline
A great aspect of this bob is that it rests at the jaw with soft waves that look almost organic and the gray shades are allowed to be rather than die them. The subtle layering keeps the hair feeling light while still having enough density to appear full. The success of this bob comes from the fact that it is not styled. This is the greatest illusion a great haircut can provide. Honestly, it is great as is, but a little product would be all that is needed for a nice finish.

#47 Textured Bob with Bangs That Open Everything Up
These face framing bangs are great because they are cut to accentuate the cheekbones, and that little detail lifts the entire haircut. The slight wave texture really gives overall look softness that fine hair needs and the shape is easy and flattering. The low maintenance highlights woven through the hair give dimension without the color being too complicated. The trims in the bangs, where the hair is cut to maintain the shape are even more necessary because the hair grows fast enough to alter the entire feel of the haircut. The pay off is definitely worth it considering how minimal the daily styling is.

#48 Inverted Bob with a Soft, Airy Feel
I adore inverted bobs. The short-back-long-front combination creates an elegance that a straight bob can’t capture. The soft texture on this is amazing. It gives a polished look instead of a sharp and aggressive. Inverted bobs aren’t heavy. They stay light and airy instead of looking bulky The gray looks great and the layered cut is just the right amount of “bounce” to keep it looking nice and natural. Even with routine visits, the distinct layers can be maintained for a longer period of time than with other cuts.

#49 Textured Bob with Bangs and a Youthful Feel
The bangs framing the face are youthful and lovely and really make this bob sing. Medium lengths always give options and layered bobs make fine and medium hair look full and healthy. I’ve noticed this style looks good in an unkept nature and that is appreciated. In terms of styling, aside from a light hold product, it should be minimal. It will look good just with the fresh style. If there’s a natural movement in the cut, it will look good unstyled. It will just need a product for shape and movement.

#50 Face-Framing Textured Bob with Effortless Appeal
You will love the way your new hairstyle will give you an amazing face-framing look that will have everyone complimenting you and giving you even more confidence to show off some of your best features. It will be easy to keep this cut managed since it is shoulder length. The cut will also add more volume and movement to your hair while also incorporating a few layers into the cut since your hair is fine to medium density. You will appreciate this cut when you see your reflection in the mirror and to get the full possibilities of the cut, it may take a bit of styling time, but the cut will do a lot of the work.
