These days, a haircut referred to as a mullet is far more polished than the cuts we had during the first mullet wave.
What is most interesting about the mullet haircut is how well it works with hair that is changing. Mullet haircuts work on thinning hair, hair going grey, and even hair that gets that wiry texture that shows up uninvited in your late forties. The natural gray color adds dimension to the hair that would be impossible to recreate with a single-process color. The contrast between top and sides is the purpose of the cut, but that blurs quickly as the hair grows.

Again, the waves help grow-out conceal, so there is no worry if you go a few weeks over when you would normally have it trimmed. If you have a rounder face, this look will fall, around the cheek bones, and will look really nice on you. I think this is really great hair style and will look great on a lot of people.

I love the fringe. It’s soft enough to not look harsh, but it really does an excellent job of framing the upper part of your head. It creates a lot of volume, even if the hair behind it is a little on the fine side. And the logic in the chestnut colour is ideal because when the grey hair starts to come in, it will mix in with the warm brown tones a lot better than it would with cooler shades. Not every colour can guarantee that you will look intentional even during the awkward growing-in stages.

I’ve done a lot of pixie cuts and I think asymmetrical fringes look the best in photos. I think this is because a diagonal line is more interesting than a straight across fringe. The subtle undercut on the sides is also clever, as it takes away bulk, without removing length on top, so you you keep all the good stuff on top, and feel airy around the ears and temples. To be honest, this will be a cut that needs regular appointments. Once a pixie cut loses its shape, it loses its whole personality, and I think this one will need a lot of upkeep.

I normally do this cut for clients asking for a shorter style; however, I understand some may be worried about it looking too sharp or too masculine. Adding some waves will give it a softer and more romantic touch. This particular style is great for clients who have fine or thin hair, as it will give more volume because of the layers and the natural silvers will show beautifully. This cut is as low maintenance as it gets, some shape maintenance will be needed every 4-5 weeks for a trim. For an easy and effortless cut, this is a small trade off.
#19 Wispy Silver Waves with Graduated Layers
The style with shorter lengths at the back and longer at the front offers fantastic volume without excess weight. It moves beautifully, and those wispy layers are fabulous. With silver hair, those layers will look more luminous than flat. This cut will change your relationship with your grey if your hair came in and sat there and looked dull. A light texturizing spray will keep those layers separated and defined. Occasional trims will keep the graduation clean, but other than that, you are pretty much good to go.

When someone is worried about thinning hair, I tend to suggest this style since the feathered layers create the illusion of more hair. These layers feel different from blunt layers since they are light, and provide a fullness to the hair. My absolute favorite hair phenomenon is the salt and pepper blend. It is more visually appealing than a solid color, and the natural variation provides its own depth and dimension. The feathered bangs are also going to frame you really nicely, especially if you have an oval or heart-shaped face. However, you should be aware that you will need to maintain those layers; as they grow out, they lose their effect.
#22 Tousled Layered Cut with Choppy Ends and Soft Bangs
For sure this is an everyday style. And still looks intentional, which is great because that’s what a lot of my clients look for. Bangs will soften the whole forehead area and the choppy layers give more body to work with for thinner hair. With the medium length, you can still put it up in a ponytail on the days when you literally could not be bothered. The waves will take a bit of effort to create, so I recommend a diffuser and some mousse to crunch with while it’s still damp. But really this is five extra minutes, not a whole production.

If you like your hair long, but want to change it up a little, I recommend this cut. Gentle layers give body and movement to the waves, and softness is youthful without making you look like you are trying to be younger. The great natural grey tones are stunning and work together beautifully. For the waves a volumizing mouse and a large barrel curling iron (the layers will do most of the work).

What I love the most about this haircut is how it gets better with more length! That’s a first for me with short hairstyles. The different lengths mean that as your hair grows, it will settle into a different version of the haircut rather than just looking messy. This will really improve the volume if you have fine hair, and the movement from the cut will soften the appearance of a stronger jaw, and your grey hair will look good too. You’ll just need a tiny bit of product to define those layers, and you won’t have to go to the salon as frequently.

I stand by my opinion, and I really like this look. The soft bangs allow the client to conceal some lines on their forehead, and they won’t even know the reason. The layers add volume where the hair is thinning, and the length works for nearly every event. The best thing is that I can actually say this for almost all the styles what I can’t say for this one: the look in the picture can be achieved with minimal effort, a quick blow-dry and some texturizing cream.
