50 Must-See Mom Cuts for Active Seniors

With age comes many changes. Of all the changes, one of the most surprising has to be waking up and realizing that your hair is the most annoying thing you have to deal with on a daily basis. And it is not out of vanity. Even when you go for a walk, your hair gets in the way. You have to push your hair back time and time again while at the farmer’s market. Hair that you just can’t help but pull back when driving.

Almost every woman I have worked with has described the feeling of wanting low maintenance hair, that hair can not be high maintenance and you can look good. Ultimately, that is my work. There is a retired teacher who took three years to grow her hair because she was terrified that some one would cut it too short. None of those things have ever happened. When I finally took her hair to her chin, she cried. It was not out of sadness. It was because she finally looked like the version of herself that she wanted to be. That is what a good haircut looks like.

Regarding the styles I have chosen, they are meant for women who are not sedentary. Some may be shorter and some may be a little longer, but they all give off that ‘just right’ feel without too much effort. I trust that something here will catch your eye as much as it did mine.

Chic Blunt Bob with Soft Layers

#1: A Clean Bob That Feels Put Together Without Trying Too Hard

What stands out about this look is how it is finished. The ends look heavy enough to feel purposeful but are not so heavy that they appear stiff. The inner layers may look soft and not there but create form and volume keeping it from being flat. This is one of those styles that rewards you for having naturally straight hair. The highlights are subtle enough to add a bit of contrast without giving a trying to look twenty-five again vibe. This style does need a trim every 6 weeks to keep the ends looking fresh. Overall, this does give you a look that is more put together even when you don’t feel like it.

Soft Layered Shoulder-Length Cut with Gentle Face Framing

#2 A Shoulder-Length Cut That Moves the Way You Do

I often recommend this sort of hairstyle to women who want to go shorter, but aren’t quite ready to do that. The gentler layers here don’t chop anything up; rather, they allow the hair to swing a little. The face-framing pieces finish things off because they sit right where they soften everything, but still leave everything visible. If you’re medium to thick hair, this offers a direction for your hair to go instead of just sitting there. The length also makes it look really neat when it’s down, but gives the option of pulling it up. To keep the layered cut from going out to a lot of nothing, it needs barely any trimming, and it feels really nice day to day.

Silver Chin-Length Bob with Soft Side-Swept Fringe

#3 A Silver Bob That Knows Exactly What It’s Doing

There is something sincere about a single-tone silver that I appreciate. No evasion, no excuses. This bob is chin-length, with a soft angle and a side-swept fringe that appears effortless. The slight crown lift is natural from the layering. This cut will work best for finer and straighter hair types. I must say silver hair looks stunning, but is prone to environmental brassiness, so definitely use a decent purple shampoo at least once a week. Lastly, the inward curves at the ends might need a round brush to create and hold the shape.

Soft Brushed Short Blonde Bob with Wispy Fringe

#4 A Brushed-Out Bob That Feels Like You Just Woke Up Looking Good

The fringe is stunning; it adds a delicate touch to the bob as it sits beautifully on the face. The bob also features a beautifully tapered nape which shapes the cut without looking too severe. The bob is also cut to a length and layered appropriately so it looks like it can be worn without styling. The hair color is a warm, nice blonde with some lowlights and a slight root shadow, allowing you to avoid three to four week root touch ups. This haircut works with natural waves instead of fighting them, so a slight wave is perfect. Most mornings, the fringe will require a quick blow dry which should take about two minutes.

Textured Ginger Shag with Soft Curtain Fringe and Lifted Crown

#5 A Shag That Has Some Personality to It

What I love about this style is the ease and apparent care. It’s also about the color. The whole cut is relaxed and gives the impression the wearer is carefree but has put some thought into their styling. bangs are The bangs frame and distract without being a real feathering from the obstruction, and the crown is really well lifted with the internal layers being short, rather than from heavy teasing and spray. This style is designed to work with a bit of wave and a cowlick at the crown, and I love that feature. The ginger hue is spectacular, but because that color shifts over time, I recommend you plan on doing some maintenance on it every couple months. If you want to shape it and air dry it, then the finish of the style will work really well with a diffuser.

Caramel Textured Chin-Length Bob with Soft Curtain Fringe

#6 A Caramel Bob That Air-Dries Better Than It Should

I like how this cut looks so effortless. The stacking in the back is nice. The curtain bangs partner and fall in the right place so they look good. The mini layers give movement but don’t look choppy and with wavy hair it dries naturally shaped. I have some grey coming in at the root and a soft shadow root will look good without being a big colour commitment. If your hair is thick just make sure whoever cuts this knows how to gradate without taking out too much weight at once. Done right this is one of those cuts you forget you have which is the whole point.

Soft Shoulder-Length Layered Cut with Wispy Fringe

#7 A Shoulder-Length Cut with a Fringe That Actually Works

Wispy fringes can go one of two ways: they can look super intentional, or they can look like an awkward grow-out stage. This one looks super intentional because it sits just above the brows and softens the look of the face, while still keeping the height of the forehead. There’s layering throughout the cut so the ends don’t flip obnoxiously like shoulder length hair, and I think that implies there’s some stacking at the nape. The color is warm ash blonde with just enough babylights around the face to brighten things up. I would assume this would be super easy to manage if your hair is fine to medium and pretty straight. You might consider a toning gloss once in a while to keep the warmth in check, and the fringe will need to be trimmed every couple of weeks, but those are super minor upkeep things.

Soft Copper Layered Bob with Face-Framing Texture

#8 A Copper Bob That Moves When You Do

I think this cut looks really nice and casual. I like the detail in the front because it’s not symmetrical and it adds its own character to the hairstyle. The inner layers help give the crown a little volume, and I really like the razor detail because it stops the ends from looking too bulky. I also like that this haircut has a lot of movement, meaning that it can be styled in a bunch of different ways. I like the color copper-red because it’s warm and going to look pretty with light skin. The low-lights also help give depth to the haircut and stop it from looking like a flat canvas. I also think that if you have wavy hair this cut is perfect because the waves will give the haircut the body it needs. I really like the color of the haircut, but it is going to fade so I recommend using a color-depositing gloss to keep it looking good until you come back. If your hair is very straight I would expect some of the movement to fall flat, but I would expect a quick pass with a round brush to bring that movement right back.

Cropped Copper Rounded Bob with Tapered Nape

#9 A Cropped Bob That Feels Tidy Without Being Rigid

This haircut is great because of the nice shape. The nape has a nice angle to not look bulky. The inner graduation helps add tons of volume in the crown area without needing a blowout. A nice weight line compliments the shape on fine to medium hair so she has a ton of good volume. The copper shade she has is beautiful and perfect for her. Red hair color has the fastest fade out of all hair colors so make sure to keep that in mind if you go this way. You’ll be seeing the stylist a lot. The root smudge helps the grow out look nice. The haircut will take a little effort to style because you will need some controlled blow-drying to keep it from looking like a puff ball, but it’s really just a five minute routine once you get the hang of it.

Crisp Chin-Length Blunt Bob with Wispy Micro-Bangs

#10 A Blunt Bob with a Fringe That Means Business

I appreciate the detail on the cut. The weight line on the chin has a nice definition as well as the micro bangs that touch the brows. The softness added keeps the look from being too architectural. The subtle inward tuck at the nape gives the shape a soft polish, and a faint root smudge with silver blends naturally. Straight, fine to medium hair will look like this and will require minimal styling. Just a quick blow dry and you’re good to go. It may not work for everyone, as a lot of natural curl or coarse texture may fight the bluntness, but it is one of the most elegant options for hair at that length.

Voluminous Auburn Curly Crop with Rounded Halo

#11 A Curly Crop That Celebrates What You’ve Already Got

Natural curls and shorter hairstyles are such a good combo. I always get excited when I see shorter style cuts. This one is done curl by curl and is the only way to achieve such defined shape. The rounded halo effect is made by the inner layers and the nape taper makes this cut look less bottom heavy. The auburn color complements her skin so well and takes the look to another level. If your hair is thinning at the crown a little, curls like this disguise it so well especially since straight hair would be exposed. For styling, a good curl cream and diffuser are a must. Curly hair takes color differently, so colored hair care tips are a must to keep everything in good shape after the color. But the reward will be a cut that appears way fuller than it actually will look. After getting a curly cut, it’ll look like you have way more hair than you actual do.

Textured Copper Short Layered Bob with Lifted Crown

#12 A Layered Bob with Some Life in It

I love how the ends are flipped on this style. Some are more turned than others which is great because it makes the style look more lived in. The internal layers are providing the crown with good height. If your hair is medium wavy and of medium density, it will move and I think that’s great. The bright and warm copper is really good with light eyes and freckled skin. There is a cowlick in the back that is actually working for her which is great because we need volume there. The trade off with color like this is that it needs some upkeep. It will need a gloss from the salon every once in a while to keep it from getting dull. If you want the flipped ends to stay like that you’ll need to do a bit of heat styling but it doesn’t have to be a whole production.

Chestnut Shoulder-Grazing Layers with Wispy Curtain Fringe

#13 A Layered Cut with a Fringe That Settles In Nicely

This style looks like it is meant to grow out a little. The cut is long enough to not look like it is freshly done, but enough to look good. The bangs touch the eyebrows and go to the side, and to frame the face the layers are longer so that they can blend into the cut and not create a hard stop. The crown layers are muted enough to add lift at the top so it doesn’t look flat. This look is perfect for fine to medium straight hair because it creates the illusion of more fullness while also reducing the amount of hair taken out. The warm chestnut base color has a nice shine that shows off the color really well, and a warm glaze is low maintenance to blend grey. To look really good, this cut needs a round brush, but even rough dried it looks good.

Soft Blended Curtain-Bang Bob with Feathered Crown

#14 A Bob with a Feathered Crown That Does the Work for You

The crown’s feathering provides a fantastic natural lift. A small cowlick is working in your favor; it gives a little volume boost that would otherwise need to be created with product. The curtain fringe is effortless and soft, and the overall length is chin to shoulder which is that sweet spot for multiple styling options and isn’t heavy or overly thick. Fine to medium hair is always a challenge to have enough body without the cut becoming too thin, and the internal layering here achieves that beautifully. My only product recommendation is a lightweight volumizing root spray to help add lift. The root shadow is a soft blend of gray and the whole look has a gentleness to it that I find very appealing.

Soft Layered Collarbone Bob with Curtain Face-Framing

#15 A Collarbone Bob That Turns Under Like It Was Taught To

Those overdone ends are super satisfying, I agree! That smooth, inward curve at the collarbone is very sleek. It makes the look very intentional. The way it frames the face is nice, and it draws focus to the center of the face, but not too much. The natural cowlick is adding nice lift at the crown, and it helps keep the style from going flat before your appointment. This style will look best with some styling effort, like using a round brush. If you’re the kind of person who wants to towel dry their hair and leave, this definitely isn’t the most low-maintenance option. If you enjoy that soothing, early morning ritual of arranging your hair into the shape you want, that effort will definitely pay off with this cut. The chestnut color is going to be nice and warm. It will look even better with a single-process or root smudge if you’re going gray blend.

Feathered Icy Pixie with Soft Ear-Grazing Sideburns

#16 An Icy Pixie That Feels Like a Fresh Start

Pixie cuts with platinum colors have a nice quality that somehow makes the wearer look brighter. The cut shown above is an example of this, with the shape of the cut making the hair appear softer. The ear grazing sideburns, micro blunt fringe, and point cut layers at the top to add texture without being spiky make the hair look softer and help achieve this look. For fine to medium density hair, this is one of those cuts that sort of styles itself. A little molding paste and quick blow-dry is all it takes. The platinum color is nice, but be prepared to schedule a lot of salon appointments if you want to avoid a warm or yellow tint. The cut is one of the dreamiest pixie cuts I have seen, and I would recommend it if you have been thinking about going really short and have the hair density for it.

Chic Short Graduated Chocolate Bob with Side-Swept Face-Framing

#17 A Graduated Bob with Quiet Sophistication

The stacking at the nape of this bob creates structure as it is graduated just enough to provide lift at the crown without the back being shelf-like. The long side-swept front pieces are really flattering as they soften the jawline, plus the entire look has an effortless polished quality that is easy to maintain. On straight fine to medium hair, the internal graduation adds a lot more volume. The root shadow lowlights seamlessly blend silver, adding depth, which is a nice alternative to combating grays. This cut does appreciate a daily blow dry, just a few minutes with a round brush is all it needs to set the shape. It is worth looking for a stylist who is skilled with graduated cuts as precision is key.

Warm Copper Shoulder-Grazing Layered Waves

#18 Warm Copper Waves That Feel Effortless

Some styles of haircuts seem to have a mind of their own, and this one certainly has that effect. The hairstyle integrates several features like loosely waved hair, layered waves that enhance rather than restrict the waves, and a relatively loose cut. The crown and layering lift the hair more, while the face-framing pieces maintain the blend and integrate with the wave pattern. The warm, copper tone is stunning color. There’s salt-and-pepper at temples, which serves as a root shadow and contrasts well. If you have hair that is naturally wavy and is medium to thick in density, then very little styling would be required. If you let your hair air dry it would probably look great. The cut is definitely low-maintenance and will require a wash soon.

Bouncy Chin-to-Shoulder Curly Layers with Lifted Crown

#19 Curly Layers That Give You Volume Where You Need It

The cut also embraces the curl pattern, so I appreciate this one the most. It lifts the crown and the layering is done perfectly. It also allows for real volume to be created when the curls piled up because the length is just at chin to shoulder. The layering for thinning hair at the crown is very forgiving and even some nice hair fill in. The silver strands at temples and warm copper food combination is beautiful. The low contrast gloss will save the day as it doesn’t require to cover anything to blend it all. On those very humid days this is also a wash and go cut that works. You will want a diffuser and some type of control for humidity.

Classic Chin-Length Rounded Bob with Soft Turned-Under Ends

#20 A Rounded Bob That Looks Polished Without Being Precious

Bob hairstyles have a certain level of class remaining effortless and easy to maintain. The soft angle of the tips adds a gentle but professional touch to the hairstyle overall. Gray hairs add shine to many hairstyles and look great with this cut. The shape of the bob is much more to the hair than just what’s there making it look more than the sum of its parts. I will say this style does require you to style it with the use of a round brush and an iron to turn the ends under. This style is quite hair type specific, meaning you will find some hair types this bob will look great on and some hair types it will not look good on. If you want a style that is more comforting and relaxed, this is a cut that fits that profile perfectly.

Soft Layered Chin-Length Bob with Feathered Face-Framing

#21 A Layered Bob That Moves Even When You’re Sitting Still

The most notable aspect about the haircut is the movement. You can see the hair swing in still photos. The point-textured internal layers allow the perimeter to look full while keeping the interior free enough to create effortless, natural movement. The warm blonde lowlight blend with the root shadow is integrating gray beautifully without it being a big job. The natural part cowlick is giving the crown effortless lift. The cut will be well suited to fine to medium hair as the layering will give perceived volume without compromising density. One thing to consider is that, if your hair does get finer over time, you may need to discuss the positioning of the lowlights to keep the illusion of fullness, but that’s a later conversation. Overall, this well done bob.

Soft Voluminous Red Angled Bob with Stacked Nape

#22 A Red Angled Bob That Has Some Energy to It

I can appreciate the energy in this style. There is some beautiful drama in the angled cut, and the stacked nape adds height to the crown which is even visible from the front. The face-framing layer is soft and sits at the jaw which is lovely for softening that area. The red is vibrant and warm, and it really compliments this style. To be honest, red fades the quickest so you’ll need to be prepared for some upkeep. A subtle root smudge will make the grow-out look intentional and there’s a little silver strand at the part which adds an unexpected little depth. A round brush and a low-heat diffuser will be all you need to create this shape if your hair is fine to medium. Some internal texturizing will keep it from being too thick at the ends.

Rounded Graduated Chin-Length Bob with Soft Side Part

#23 A Graduated Bob That Does All the Right Things Quietly

The manners of Bob seem impeccable. The graduation is understated. There is just enough interior stacking at the crown to create fullness without weighing down the shape. The gentle side part opens the face beautifully. On oval to heart face shapes, the chin-length perimeter frames the face just right. The stacking is quietly managing a crown cowlick, turning what could be a problematic area into some lovely, natural volume. This is a clean look on fine to medium straight hair, and works well in almost any environment. The rounded perimeter will require some round brush blow dry to maintain its smoothness, and if your hair is very coarse then that may be something to discuss with your stylist, as the graduation can create more bulk than you want. It is obvious when hair regrowth is parted on its own, but a root shadow or some highlights that are placed strategically soften that up.

Textured Copper Layered Pixie with Crown Lift

#24 A Textured Pixie with a Warm, Coppery Glow

I appreciate the unique scruffy quality this cut has. The fringe is short and looks choppy, plus the crown has stacked and razor-textured layers, creating an effortless, just ran-your-fingers-through-it-and-walked-out-the-door vibe. On fine to medium hair, layering creates a ton of volume that would otherwise be lost, and combined with a copper glaze and micro babylights, the cut looks so much richer. The crown cowlick is super lifted, and it’s been cut to work with it rather than against it, which is the smartest way to do it. To maintain the vibrancy of the red tones, a demi-permanent glaze and a bit of product will be needed to keep the separation in the layers, but the styling time is very short.

Textured Platinum Pixie with Lifted Crown

#25 A Platinum Pixie That Gives You Height Without Effort

The lift on this pixie is really something. While it may look effortless, there’s good technique behind it. Micro-layering and point cutting create separation and volume, while the root shadow offers the illusion of depth even though the overall color is lighter. Length is clipped close around the ears and nape, keeping everything clean and drawing the eye up. This shape works with fine to medium hair with good density and doesn’t collapse like some pixies can. It does need attention each morning. A bit of product and blow dry is all it takes to achieve the height you want, but it’s just a few minutes of work, not a whole ordeal. If you’re going platinum, be prepared for touch ups to live in that color range. The effect is especially worth it against silver undertones.

Polished Chin-Length Graduated Bob with Soft Face-Framing

#26 A Graduated Bob That Frames Everything Beautifully

I like how the slightly off-center feature creates an opening in the eye area, and creates a bit of asymmetry, which helps the overall look less structured. The nape has internal layers which adds volume to the top, and the end bevel becomes that smooth jawline framing which is most flattering for oval and heart shapes. The roots and warm auburn lowlights do a great job of adding dimension and camouflaging some grey. They did a great job on the color. The shape adds nice volume, especially with fine to medium hair. It looks polished and beautifully frames the face. It’s not a super low maintenance style though, as you will need precision cutting, and a round brush to create that lovely inward curve. The final product will be a cut with a clean look and a thoughtful finish, without it looking like you’ve put a tonne of effort into styling it.

Short Copper Layered Stacked Pixie with Wispy Fringe

#27 A Stacked Pixie with Copper Depth

This cut offers close nape detailing and balanced volume at the crown while layered texture at the top mixed with soft, forehead grazing bangs add finishing touches. The design also contour’s the client’s natural crown whorl, creating a lift effect. The copper with some lowlights does a nice trick adding more perceived density to the hair. On fine to average density hair this will be simple to maintain with a little bit of finger styling and some styling cream. The red tones will require some maintenance, but if you enjoy that salon visit rhythm, it becomes part of the routine rather than a chore.

Soft Curled Silver Layers

#28 Silver Curls That Feel Free and Natural

The appearance of relaxed styling is fantastic. Medium length loose and relaxed curls, look soft & easy to manage. This cut is made to work with your waves or curls, instead of against them. This cut has layers that will help control volume, and keep the ends from looking heavy and flat. Natural silver hair is great because it reflects light and creates the illusion of fullness. With this haircut, you hair should be able to flow freely, and that is what we are going for. If your hair is fine, the curls are doing a great job of adding volume, without you having to do anything. If you’d like, you can put a light curl enhancing mousse on your hair when it is damp, to help hold the curls all day.

Textured Pixie Cut with Soft Bangs

#29 A Textured Pixie That Opens Up Your Face

This pixie has bangs soft enough to reveal the forehead, drawing most of the focus to the eyes and bone structure. The short length all over creates movement and interest, meaning the morning routine is reduced to seconds instead of a few minutes. The texture on finer hair is what creates the feel of fullness, and without it, this cut would be way too close to the head. A touch of texturizing spray makes a real difference here, just enough to give the pieces some grip, and separation. A few highlights to add dimension would be subtle but do beautifully with this cut; just keep them fine and close to the face.

Softly Textured Silver Bob with Subtle Layers

#30 A Silver Bob That Sits Right Where It Should

Effortless styles are typically the best of the best because they give the illusion that the haircut was custom made just for you. This bob is a perfect representation of that feeling. This bob is chin length and features soft layers that are well textured enough to keep it from looking like a helmet head. The hair also has a stunning silver tinge that lights up her whole face. The layers on the finer and medium lengths of hair are expertly done to create the right amount of dimension while keeping the volume at the ends. For those with hair that tends to fall flat and lose volume in the afternoons, apply a lightweight volumizing product to your roots before blow drying. Bobs tend to be low maintenance and this one is no exception – you will hardly have to do anything to it!

Textured Silver Crop with Side Swept Bangs

#31 A Silver Crop That Frames Without Fuss

I see these side-swept bangs and how they add a nice touch and create a soft diagonal line and shape around the face that does not weigh it down. The head shape was created with some layered texture with enough volume added to the top, so that it is not too close to the head, which is always the concern with shorter cuts and finer hair. You’ll want to get some shape trimmed every four to five weeks, but styling is super easy, just a bit of product to make it messy and if you’re feeling it a quick blow dry. If you are active and moving this is a cut that will hold and look good while doing it. The silver hair is gorgeous left to do its beautiful thing and it is doing just that well!

Softly Layered Silver Lob with Gentle Face Framing

#32 A Silver Lob That Moves Gently

What draws me back to this haircut is its softness. The layers are subtle enough not to disrupt the overall shape, but provide movement to the hair. The face framing pieces fall more naturally than forced, and a mid-length cut is the perfect compromise; it’s long enough to tie back when you need to, but short enough to be manageable. Fine to medium hair has enough layering to create texture, and still shows the volume you want. There’s something really special to me about letting natural gray hair shine instead of hiding it, and it also is really pretty! A round brush or flat iron will give soft waves, but this cut also looks good even air dried. Getting hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks will keep layers more defined.

Textured Short Pixie Cut with Feathered Layers

#33 A Feathered Pixie That Celebrates Bone Structure

Best cut if you want to show off your face and not hide behind the hair anymore. The sides are cropped to showcase the cheekbones and eyes. The longer top gets softer and bird-like, and adds an overall balanced and softer look. Feathering is also very good for the crown since most fine and medium hair lacks this. This overall shape is most flattering to oval and heart faces. A cut this short may even change how you carry yourself, standing a little taller. This one is fairly low maintenance. You’ll need a trim every couple weeks just to keep it looking intentional. To make it look grown-out will be such a breeze. To wrap it all together some product will be needed to call it done.

Softly Layered Gray Lob with Face-Framing Highlights

#34 A Layered Lob with Highlights That Brighten Everything

The face-framing highlights are well-placed to catch the light. They soften the look and draw attention to the eyes. The layers of the cut create movement and lighten the overall look which is a nice length. This combination of layers and length is very forgiving on medium to fine hair. It provides volume without the stress of losing a lot of hair. The lob length is versatile enough to be worn down, half up, or casually. The highlights and layers do require maintenance for a fresh look. The highlights will look dark at the roots and the layers will lose their shape. This is a cut that behaves itself between appointments.

Textured Silver Pixie Cut with Soft Volume

#35 A Silver Pixie That Does More with Less

The pixie cut is easy to style thanks to the textured layers on the top, and the silver color is super sleek. The layers also helps add a modern elevation to the crown and top layers. Because of the oval face shape, the cut is very flattering because it really helps show off the jaw and neck. The cut also exposes the neck, but it’s not overdone. The bedhead strands are super easy to rearrange with a little bit of product. The lower density sections and the sporadic rests are good for this style as well, and the pixie style works well.

Chic Soft Layered Bob with Subtle Face Framing

#36 A Soft Bob That Does Exactly What You Need

This bob requires a bit of upkeep. It feels like hair but does not sit on the shoulders. It has a slight layer which creates a different style but does not require a lot of maintenance, which is a great quality. Instead of being excessively heavy, the layer is longer. On fine hair, it creates a bit of layering, which will appear effortlessly full. It has a simple style. It will be suited for women, particularly those who wish to appear elegant but do not want to invest a lot of time in their hair. It will look elegant and neat if it is blow-dried straight after showering, and it will fall into its new position nicely. However, you may need to make a bit more effort for it to look good again on day 2.

Textured Short Crop with Playful Volume

#37 A Short Crop with a Playfulness That’s Hard Not to Like

This cut really stands out with volume and personality at the crown. It adds fun lift and the more subtle, face-framing layers are soft yet are enough to frame everything. This is all about the texture and in this case the fine hair is elevated because the case gives the texture of more hair. Lighter hair that tends to fall flat in the afternoons will benefit from a light holding product and a volumizing powder at the crown to help keep everything elevated. It doesn’t get much easier then this.

Softly Layered Gray Bob with Gentle Bangs

#38 A Gray Bob with Bangs That Look Like They Belong

The soft, subtle bangs complete the bob perfectly, as they seamlessly integrate into the flowing layers. This haircut is compact and structured, reaching the chin, and just the right amount of layering is added to create a flowing look. This cut will look great on fine to medium hair and the shorter layers will decrease the weight that would otherwise pull the style straight. She has chosen to look beautiful by leaving her soft and bright gray hair natural. There is truly minimal upkeep with this hairstyle and from my estimation the bangs will just need the occasional trim. That is a quick chop that any stylist can do between cuts. Its effortless and put together at the same time, and adds a rested, awake appearance.

Textured Short Crop with Soft Waves

#39 A Short Crop with Waves That Fall Where They Want

I like how natural this cut is. The waves look like they are part of the personality of the hair because the cut is made to let the waves do their thing. The hair is cut to sit just above the nape so it is short enough to be easy, but has enough length through the top to create a nice shape. The soft layering without the added bulk really helps to enhance the hair’s natural volume. The lightweight feel to this cut is a real gift on fine to medium hair. This cut needs a touch of wave enhancing cream on damp hair and air drying (or a quick diffuse) to look its best. For round and oval faces, the shape of this cut is really flattering because it contours to the natural shape of the head without adding extra width. It is the sort of cut that at the end of the day, it looks just as good as it did at the start.

Softly Layered Bob with Gentle Waves

#40 A Layered Bob with Waves That Know What They’re Doing

The waves in this haircut look naturally loose and free. Some subtle layering was added to create some movement so the hair doesn’t look flat. The hair sits at the shoulders which draws attention to the eyes and cheekbones. Scissor cuts on fine hair are quite forgiving, the wave pattern seems to create a lot of volume and the layering prevents the hair from looking limp and lifeless. The haircut is low-maintenance as it doesn’t require a lot of upkeep to continue looking good, aside from the occasional touch of a volumizing product to help on days it appears flat. The simplicity of the hairstyle makes it suitable for all occasions, whether that be grocery shopping or dining out with friends.

Modern Textured Silver Crop with Lifted Volume

#41 A Silver Crop with Lift That Feels Modern

I love the way this style portrays volume while contouring a modern shape. The texture allows it to stay controlled, and the sides keep it polished. This extra layering is especially important for fine to medium density hair as it adds a dimension of fullness that the hair may lack. The silver is a confident and bright which suits the length perfectly. Once dry, a little mousse through the hair will make the texture a bit more grippy and help create some lift. As with most short hairstyles, it will take more regular cuts to manage the style, but it is definitely worth the effort as it always looks clean and smart.

Modern Textured Gray Lob with Soft Bangs

#42 A Gray Lob with Bangs That Add Something Soft

These bangs are nice and subtle, adding a bit of softness above the forehead while completely changing the vibe of the cut. The length is at a nice shoulder range where there is still movement, and nothing gets in the way. The light layers and natural shine suggests healthy hair even more than any product, which is ideal. On fine to medium hair, that shape is so flattering, the layers do provide dimension, but without reducing the collection you need at the ends. The bangs will require the most upkeep, as a trim will be needed every few weeks to keep them from falling to the point you do not want, but the rest of the cut does grow out nice.

Softly Layered Silver Bob with Fringe

#43 A Silver Bob with a Fringe That Ties Everything Together

A bob that is layered creates movement in the hair that is especially nice when the hair type is finer. The cut creates layers that are airy and weightless instead of feeling heavy and feeling like the movement is stagnant. Silvers and natural grays can be the biggest secret to healthy hair because they shine when reflecting light. A good shine serum can enhance that healthy graying hair secret even more. The roots might need a volumizing product if the hair is fine, but the cut really is easy to manage and forgiving when it comes to shape. The shine of your natural silver is gorgeous and healthy graying hair is a big secret. The shimmering silver is something I consider one of the best-kept secrets.

Textured Platinum Pixie Cut with Soft Volume

#44 A Platinum Pixie That Carries Itself with Ease

You can see the self-assurance that comes with their cut even if you’re unable to observe the individual. The extended top allows for some volume to prevent the style from appearing overly pruned, while the shorter sides modernize the appearance overall. When combined with the light platinum, which brightens the overall complexion, texturing through the crown gives the illusion of fullness. Because of how forgiving the shape is, this is also one of the easier short cuts to maintain. While the platinum color is a lot of commitment, a forgiving shape shortens the maintenance required. Regular toning is required to prevent warm shifts, so you will want to go before it changes too much. Once you have the rigidity commitment to maintain the color, styling daily is also minimized.

Charming Curly Bob with Soft Volume

#45 A Curly Bob That Makes the Most of Natural Texture

The length of these curls is beautiful. The bob is right above the shoulders so there is plenty of room for the curls to bounce, add volume, and not get tangled or heavy. With this fine to medium density of hair, the natural pattern of the curls adds some body, and the cut is made to let the curls fall where they want instead of pushing them all into a straight cut. A curly cut that looks effortless is the highest praise I can give. Regular deep conditioning and a good moisturizing conditioner will keep the curls defined and soft, and moisture is key. The lightness of the color creates a fresh look, and the shape of this cut flatters most face shapes because the curls form a soft frame.

Chic Textured Short Crop with Soft Volume

#46 A Silver Crop That’s Quietly Flattering

Here are two details for this cut that caught my interest. First, the soft volume at the crown adds some height to the cut that balances a rounder face shape and gives the illusion of the cut not adding that much height. Second, The layered texture creates an interesting cut while the light silver is fun and self-assured. The choice is good for fine hair because the short length means that gravity isn’t working counter to you, and the layers create movement that is often lost with longer fine hair. The style does require some upkeep (light product and a few minutes of blow-dry to get the lift and hold ), but it shouldn’t require much more than that. If you do want to add some dimension to the cut, some subtle babylights near the face would create some dimension, but the silver is fine by itself.

Softly Layered Textured Cut for Effortless Style

#47 A Layered Cut That Gives Fine Hair Something to Work With

From the placement of the layers, you can almost see the movement formed. It’s soft, easy-going, and if the hair has even a slight wave to it, the layers work with the wave instead of disrupting the texture. The soft highlights flow through the hair in such an easy, natural way that it creates a lot of dimension and variation so that it doesn’t look like it was dyed. This hairstyle creates a lot of movement and fullness to the hair, mainly when it’s fine. The more natural it looks, the more intentional the cut was. Be sure to go to a stylist who understands how to do layering in fine hair. Good haircuts make styling easy.

Chic Soft Textured Waves with Subtle Layers

#48 Soft Waves That Feel Like They’ve Been There All Along

These waves will look completely natural and that’s exactly what we want! It’s important that the layers underneath create movement without making the bottom too heavy. The shoulder length cut will fall to a natural balance point which makes it flattering for almost every face shape. For fine hair with a decent density, the wavy pattern will create volume that is missing with straight-dried hair, and the look will feel much softer, warmer, and more approachable. The little maintenance it takes to keep the waves is also a plus! If you hair waves on its own, just let it be. If your hair does not wave as much as you would like, wrap small sections around a big curling iron and mess it up a bit to help! You layers will need to be touched up every few months to maintain the shape.

Playful Short Textured Pixie Cut with Side-Swept Bangs

#49 A Short Pixie with Side-Swept Bangs That Make It Fun

I like how the side-swept bangs offer just enough individuality to keep things from feeling too serious. The short clean crop has soft layers that add some movement and keep everything feeling lively. This is where the texture really shines. When it comes to fine to medium hair, that’s where the texture really works, otherwise it feels like you’re stuck with a short bob. However, with the right texture, it feels thoughtful and contemporary. It’s very easy, once you have a good texturizing spray and shake it up a little, and low maintenance. The bangs also add a youthful element that softens everything and this length works well for most face shapes because it tends to be more opening. It’s best to come in for regular trims, but in the time between visits it grows out pretty well without losing its shapes completely.

Softly Layered Ash Blonde Bob with Face-Framing Highlights

#50 An Ash Blonde Bob with Highlights That Do the Heavy Lifting

Face-framing highlights are placed around the face to catch the light and warm up the complexion. Highlights also add dimension and prevent a collarbone-length lob with layers from looking flat. The ashy-blonde color is modern and keeps the look from feeling too washed out. The length, along with the layers being cut to reduce bulk, creates a nice, full end. This is the ideal look for medium-length hair that is fine to medium. If your features are more angular, this cut will help soften them. Layers and highlights will create a fluid, boxy-free frame. For color upkeep, ash tones tend to warm up, so the salon is calling to refresh the highlights every couple of months. The good news is that this cut is low maintenance and easy to style with a round brush and blow drier.
