Getting micro bangs when having a round face can be somewhat daunting and I get that moving a face may make it look wider, but this is not entirely true. In fact, round faces can greatly benefit from micro bangs, especially when the bangs create a strong horizontal line that will make the round face visually divided and the other features more balanced.
One of my clients from a few years ago, brought me a flyer of bangs she really liked, but other stylists told her to get a different cut because they said the bangs wouldn’t suit her face. The results were fantastic and, at that moment, we realized how impactful a haircut can be. For round faces, it’s not a question of the micro bangs being there or not, but rather how that rest of the layers are cut and textured. I’m so excited to share these 15 looks.
#1: That Split-Color Bob Situation with the Tiny Bangs
Not everyone will appreciate this look, so I admire the confidence! The purple and blue split hair and those little micro bangs really bring the whole outfit together. The bangs create a sharp line across the forehead and add some dimension that could be lacking on round faces. The jaw-length bob also really contributes to this look. I must say, such a vivid color requires a commitment to maintenance. A really good color-protecting shampoo is going to be a necessity, and you’ll definitely be spending time in the salon upkeep for those colors. But if you like spending time in the salon, then go for it!
#2: That Warm Copper with the Little Bangs
As a stylist, I enjoy advising clients with round faces and softer features to try warm copper tones, as these hues are very flattering on softer face shapes. The layering on this cut really helps create movement and volume, making the hair look thicker which is a nice bonus. The micro bangs help to draw the attention to the eyes, and slim down the face a bit without being too obvious. This tonality of copper is great for lighter and medium skin tones as it has a nice warm, lived in look that won’t make you seem to have tried very hard. Just a little note though, if your hair is very curly, be prepared for these micro bangs to be a bit rogue between trims!
#3: Messy Waves and a Sharp Little Fringe
I appreciate how many technical elements there are to this haircut. The loose waves are soft, and the sharp, defined micro bangs really add an edge to the haircut. The intentional balance is especially contrasting with a round face since the bangs are soft and relaxed. This is definitely not a wash and go style. The bangs will need to be trimmed regularly, or they will look like they are just growing out without purpose. It will take a bit of commitment to get the trims, but I think the result will be great. The precise waves and relaxed bangs create a really interesting and captivating style.
#4: Choppy Little Bob with the Tiny Fringe
If you’re searching for hairstyles that make fine hair a little less flat, this could be the one! The bob’s choppy texture contributes added volume and softness, and the micro bangs eliminate any suggestions of the style being overly cutesy. For round face shapes this hairstyle will be even more complimentary, as it will focus attention to your face while staying clear of any heaviness down below that would drag the look down. You’ll have to bang trims often, but other than that this look is surprisingly high maintenance.
#5: Soft Waves with That Feathery Little Fringe
I’m particularly drawn to the bangs and the way they are styled to be more feathered. They offer a simple and soft touch, which is more aesthetically pleasing with the waves than a sharp micro bang would be. It’s even a little romantic, but the way the bangs are cut keeps it modern. This style is best suited for medium to thick hair, as there needs to be enough volume to support the wavy texture while keeping the bangs floaty. If I were doing this on someone, I’d suggest some subtle highlights in the mid-lengths to bring out more of the dimension in the waves. All you need is a bit of texturizing spray, scrunch it while it’s damp and you’re all set.
#6: Jet Black Bob, Clean Micro Bangs
I find it striking when a person has jet black hair and a bob haircut like the one shown here. Her hair is cut just above the shoulders and she has perfectly cut micro bangs. When someone has a round face and light skin, jet black hair with these bangs is super high contrast and striking.
If you have straight, medium density hair, this look is also one of those hair cuts where you can probably wake up and not have to do anything to your hair, just brush it. The real work of this style is pulling off the extreme color. Regular hair appointments will be necessary to keep this color, especially if you don’t want to end up with that almost black faded hair that no one wants.
#7: Pink Waves with the Sleek Little Bangs
I know not everyone can pull off a pink hairstyle, but bright hair like this always cheers me up as does bright pink hair on our salon customers! The waves add extra volume, and this style is good for drawing attention to the length of the face instead of the roundness by shifting the focus down. Micro bangs also contrast wavy textures nicely and add a fun touch! For the style to look good, hair should be medium to thick because bright colors tend to look sparse if the hair is too thin. While people may need to get close with their stylist, I think the color shown here is worth the maintenance of keeping this right hair.
#8: Golden Blonde Choppy Bob with the Delicate Bangs
Bangs like this are always best when they look like they just happened by accident, and that is part of the charm with this look. Instead of looking heavy and harsh, the bangs offer a nice line across the forehead that helps offer some definition, and the golden blonde is a color that suits a wide variety of skin tones, which is not something a lot of hair colors can claim. The youthful feel from the way the bob is cut is really refreshing and works best with fine to medium hair. If your hair is really thick, it really runs the risk of looking like more of a choppy and bulky mess instead of a stylish cut. Regular trims will be necessary for bangs this short, but outside of that cut, the maintenance should be pretty low.
#9: Chestnut Bob with Those Perfectly Cut Micro Bangs
You can see a lot of skill and precision went into these cuts. The rounded bob shape mirrors the shape of the face. Micro bangs are cut straight across and create a counterpoint that makes the style work. It may sound counterproductive to match a round cut with a round face, but the bangs completely change the geometry of it all. The warm chestnut color looks rich and complements the skin beautifully. This cut will be easy to style if your hair is fine and straight, but remember that a cut with this precision will show every millimeter of growth so be sure to book your appointments regularly.
#10: Auburn Bob with Those Super Short Bangs
The micro bangs combined with the color and warmth of the bob lighten the complexion and shift the focus to the eyes. I usually would find high bangs on a more round face to be unhelpful, but here they actually create more vertical space to the upper third of the face, so I’m inclined to say it works. The bob is nice in that it has enough weight and structure to hold its shape between appointments, so it should be good for you in that regard. I need to mention though, that these bangs are streamlined into a sort of confident commitment. They are very bold and very intentional, and there really isn’t any room for ambiguity when it comes to what they are. For many, that’s the ideal.
#11: Dark Espresso Bob with the Tiny Bangs
I appreciate an ear-length bob and this one together with them espresso shade is really nice. The dark tone adds a lot of dimension and makes the bob look elegant and sophisticated. The ultra short bangs direct the focus right to the eyes and form a nice and clean balanced frame around the face. If your hair is straight or a little wavy this is going to be super easy to manage. With this style, there isn’t a bunch of maintenance other than the bangs growing out, everything else kind of takes care of itself.
#12: Auburn Waves with the Wispy Little Bangs
I’ve seen this style many times and what makes it stand out are the details. Everything looks soft and inviting. The warm auburn color is calming. The relaxed waves complement the style and the micro bangs are just enough to be playful in a good way. I like how the length goes upwards toward the face. It helps create the illusion of a face lift and adds definition to rounder face shapes. This style is perfect for brunch and anything formal as well! The waves create a nice natural texture and with medium density, the hair will hold the shape really well. As long as you keep up with the bangs trims, you’re golden!
#13: Deep Black Waves with a Bold Little Fringe
This style is full of amazing drama. The rich black colour, and the micro fringe that hits just above the brows is bold, but still gentle. The combination of shoulder length waves and a short fringe gives a nice balance to round faces. The waves span out to the mid length where it is most needed, and the fringe defines the forehead where it is needed. Those with thick wavy hair are going to look great in this hairstyle since it naturally adds volume and texture to the waves and increases the overall impact. The bangs will require maintenance to stay sharp, but that is true with all styles of micro bangs; it comes with the territory.
#14: Brunette Bowl Cut with Precise Little Bangs
I know this style is not likely to appeal to everyone, which is part of its charm. The bowl cut offers a rounded, sleek, and uniform appearance all the way around the head. Micro bangs that sit just above the eyebrows create a shape that is almost geometric. It also works on round faces. The bowl cut shape is round, so it will fit the shape of your face, and then the bangs will provide some contrast to that. The cut works best with thick hair. With thinner hair, you will lose fullness around the crown, which is essential for the shape of the cut. This is one of those looks that some people will absolutely love, while others just won’t understand it at all. That is a good indication that you should do it. This cut is surprisingly low maintenance. The shape of the cut will do the majority of your styling for you.
#15: Lime Green Pixie with the Rainbow Fringe
It’s great that someone woke up and decided to do this. The lime green base is a statement, and the rainbow pops through the micro bangs make it even better. Pixie cuts work on round faces especially since the hair is tight and close to the head except at the top and fringe, which creates height and draws the eye up. You need thick hair for this to have the fullness you see here. Otherwise, it can look a little sparse through the crown. Maintenance on hair this vivid is real. You’ll want a good color-depositing conditioner for in between salon visits to keep it from fading into something you didn’t sign up for. If you really commit to a look, this is about as fun as it gets.
