I love hair with layers and medium length curtain bangs! One of those styles I can suggest to anyone, and it works. One of my clients hadn’t done anything to her hair in 6 years, and she was so nervous about getting bangs she nearly canceled her appointment. She sent me a message that morning saying she was really worried about disliking the bangs. I told her to come anyway. When we did some soft curtain bangs and a few layers, she was crying tears of happiness. I love this look.
Curtain bangs are an awesome first set of bangs. They work on everyone, and if you are worried about disliking them, curtain bangs are the best option because they will blend in with the rest of your hair. Also, medium length hair is ideal because you still feel like you have enough hair to style and mess around with, but it isn’t so long that you have to spend forever untangling it. I have seen so many amazing versions of this look and I wanted to show you some of my favorites.

#1: Feathery Shag with That Perfect Curtain Fringe Situation
If you’re thinking of getting a shag hairstyle, I would suggest this one. The cool girl texture is set up but it doesn’t look like you’re trying too hard. The feathered layers look soft and lived in. Along with curtain bangs, this look is super effortless as if you woke up and your hair decided to cooperate with you for once. This look is especially great for fine to medium hair as the layers help give the illusion of more hair. All you need is a little sea salt spray and some scrunching, and you’re ready to go.

#2 Golden Highlighted Layers with the Softest Curtain Bangs
That sun-kissed hair really elevates this haircut! The layers framing the face look so nice, and with highlights, the whole style is so fresh and glowing. The curtain bangs are nice and soft, and they’re not screaming “I HAVE BANGS!” They’re more like a wispy bang. If you have thick hair, I will say you may have to come in more frequently to remove some of the weight from the layers to maintain their shape, and if you have fine hair, this is pretty much wash and go hair.

#3 That Effortless “I Didn’t Try But I Look Amazing” Mid-Length
Haircuts that appear simple tend to be more thought through than one would assume. In the case of these layers, people perceive them as subtle additions to the hair, but they actually provide movement and dimension to the overall style. In the case of curtain bangs, they look especially soft and polished because they’re blended into the rest of the hair. This gives the hairstyle an effortless look. This haircut is great for people who don’t want to invest too much time into the upkeep of their hair, but still want to look polished. The shine of this hair is stunning, and I want to ask the owner what conditioner she uses.

#4 Copper Dreams with Curtain Bangs That Frame PERFECTLY
Wow, I can’t hide my excitement for this warm copper color! I want to grab my client’s head and scream, “Do you SEE yourself right now?!” The color makes me want to go crazy! The curtain bangs are are cut just right to frame the face and the added layers create so much life and bounce to otherwise fine hair. As for the color, let me give you some real talk. Copper is one of the worst colors for longevity so it will require some maintenance. You’ll need a color depositing shampoo and conditioner to keep it looking fresh until your next appointment. Is it worth all that work? Yes, just know what you’re signing up for.

#5 Balayage Layers with the Cutest Curtain Bang Situation
The balayage gives depth to the layers and lets the color do some work instead of the cut having to do all the work. I appreciate that! The curtain bangs give it a playful touch, and I love that they’re not too short — they swerve to the sides. I will say that bangs this length will likely need to be trimmed every 3 to 4 weeks. The whole look changes and not in a good way once they start poking you in the eyes.

#6 Gorgeous Curly Texture with Curtain Bangs YES PLEASE
I will always advocate for curtain bangs on curly hair! They look incredible. These curls have such great definition and the bangs are so good at framing all of the curls without opposing the natural texture. This is definitely one of those styles where working WITH your curl pattern is going to be everything. Please, I beg you, don’t let someone go and thin your curls with regular scissors. Here, a good curl defining cream is going to be your best friend. Honestly, with curls like this, I think a soft balayage would add the most beautiful dimension. Just thinking about how, with the sun, each curl would catch the light in a different way, it makes me so happy!

#7 Smooth and Pretty Medium Layers with Delicate Curtain Bangs
A perfect example of a classic done right situation. You can do this at home. A good medium length cut with some soft layers and curtain bangs that frame her face. The hair looks healthy and cared for. I also appreciate the product and the good installation. If you want a more polished version of this look, some lightweight serum and you are good to go.

#8 Warm Wavy Layers That Honestly Look Like a Movie Scene
The gentle colors of this style along with the soft waves give major main character energy, and I am here for it. The layered texture adds movement, and the curtain bangs complete the look without seeming like an afterthought. Those with medium to thick hair, this is a good option as the layers help to distribute the weight so it doesn’t sit there like a helmet, you know? I won’t lie, getting these waves to look this effortless does take some effort though. With a lightweight mousse and a quick run-through with a large barrel iron, you should be good to go.

#9 Bouncy Defined Curls Meeting the Prettiest Curtain Bangs
Let’s appreciate the unique color changes here. Starting darker at the roots and becoming lighter towards the ends brings great dimension and makes every curl look individual and intentional. The curtain bangs soften the face and that’s really flattering if you have more defined features and want to soften that a bit. The thing with curly cuts like this is that you have to see a stylist who cuts curls when they’re dry because if someone does this cut when they’re wet, you’re definitely going to have what looks like bangs down to your eyebrows when they shrink up, and that is NOT the vibe.

#10 Bouncy Layered Texture with Sweet Curtain Bangs
It always makes my day when I can go get a haircut and it just gives me that effortless bounce. I know I’ll be getting this one again! The layers are so well placed that I get a lot of lift and volume. My hair is flat at lunch so get the cut to be able to copy what she’s saying for this last sentence. The bangs are just curtain bangs that are split down the middle so she looks chill and not like she tried too hard. This cut is gonna be great for you if you have any natural waves in your hair. Just add some product and scrunch it up!

#11 Flirty Waves and Curtain Bangs That Just GO Together
These waves look like an intentional “beach vacation hair” style. These curtain bangs are quite flirty and playful, which is nice to have in a haircut that keeps it from feeling too serious. This style is great with heart-shaped faces because the layers really soften everything where they need to. Let’s be honest; if your hair is straight, you will need to put in a lot of effort to style the waves. If you have a lot of natural waves or texture, this is a great option; it’s a low-maintenance happy medium cut where you won’t have to do much, but it will look like you put in a lot of effort.

#12 Sleek Polished Layers with Curtain Bangs Done RIGHT
This is what I mean when I say curtain bangs can be more timeless and classy rather than just trendy. There is an intentional and timeless quality to the haircut; it looks like every layer was put in there on purpose. The lightness here looks like healthy hair, and healthy hair is what always makes a haircut look 10 times better. I always tell my clients the best haircut in the world is only going to look as good as the condition of your hair allows. Curtain bangs this length will require trims pretty frequently – I’m talking like every 3 weeks or so, but the commitment is definitely worth it.

#13 Rich Dark Brown Layers with Bangs That Soften Everything
With its rich chocolaty brown color, this look is stunning! The curtain bangs and soft layered framing are timeless and elegant. The fine hair texture is actually a huge benefit here because the weightless layers are flowing and won’t look too bulky. These bangs are so stunning, and I love that they chose a soft and natural look because it really does give off that “effortless beauty” vibe! If you’re a brunette who’s been considering bangs, this is your sign!

#14 Auburn Curls with Curtain Bangs and I Am NOT Over It
I just want to take a moment to love those curls. The auburn color looks so dimensional and alive. The richness of the color makes every single curl look stunning. Curtain bangs are a really nice frame. They complement the curls rather than working against them, which is super important. If you’re dying your hair this color you’re going to need to get a sulfate-free shampoo because that color is going to wash out so quickly. When you get this look right, you’ll definitely be getting a lot of looks in the grocery store and people will have no idea what’s going on.

#15 Warm Toned Layers with Face-Framing Bangs That Just WORK
When paired with these warm tones, curtain bangs produce a beautiful glow effect. Many of you might be worried about length tloss due to layers, but these particular layers are soft enough that you won’t feel a significant loss of length. This is the cut I recommend to people who say “I want something different, but I’m scared,” Because it seems like a big change when looking in the mirror, but It’s a change that is not too out there that you will want to chop it off on the way home.

#16 Copper Glow Layers with Curtain Bangs and SO Much Warmth
We have another copper! Honestly, copper and curtain bangs are just a match made in heaven! These layers give so much texture and movement to the style and the warm copper color really does create a lovely glow. It works with so many different skin tones! If warm colors are what you want for fall (and let’s be honest, who sets the rules?) then this should be the inspo photo you take to your appointment! Also, as mentioned before, copper is high maintenance. But it’s the kind of commitment that makes you love the color every time you see it in the mirror!
