#1: Auburn Pixie with a Natural Curve to It
The cut seems simple, but I can assure you, it is most definitely not. The shape of the cut will outline the cheekbones and soften a strong jaw. The color auburn is a perfect balance between warm and loud, which works great for the length. When hair goes short, the color shouldn’t scream. If you are thinning hair, this cut is great. It gives the illusion of volume without the use of product. The slight asymmetry also helps miss out on looking conservative, which is the sweet spot that most of my clients are looking for.
#2 Tousled Pixie with Warm Blonde Running Through It
Choppy layers also do their job well, giving an illusion that there is more hair. If you have fine hair, and have been holding onto length in hopes of looking thicker, this is your rebuttal. Colour placement on warm blonde highlights is at the very tops of the cut, and with that level of detail, you can absolutely spot the difference between a good colourist and someone who just slaps in foils. This style looks like you just woke up and tossed your hair, but it actually only takes about four minutes and a bit of texturizing paste to achieve.
#3 Espresso Pixie with a Deep Side Sweep
The brilliant technique used on the head makes all the cuts look pushed forward and creates more space around the eyes and accentuates the cheekbones. The rich espresso color is polished in person, and it looks really nice in photos. This is one of those colors that makes it look like you have everything together, even on days you definitely don’t! This is great for fine to medium hair as it holds shape without too much density. The one thing I will say is that the asymmetry will need to be maintained every five to six weeks, or it will lose its purpose and just look grown out.
#4 Chestnut Waves with a Longer, Uneven Line
This cut is also versatile and is great for people who get bored easily. The shape makes the most volume where it is needed. I have seen this shape on clients who have thinning hair towards the crown and they loved it. Just keep in mind this will take time in the morning to style. Most people do not wake up with those waves so just be ready to put in the effort. A small barrel curling iron is great for this, and you should be prepared to spend time for that. This style suits especially oval and heart shape faces.
#5 Wavy Brunette Bob with Highlights That Actually Move
These highlights are mixed in so that the color changes with the movement of the hair. This technique makes the hair look more dynamic instead of just flat. This is gradated into a longer long pixie which hits the bottom of bob space but the layers help reduce any heaviness. This is ideal if you have fine hair and want a volumptuous look without the blowout effort. I would recommend using a heat protective serum before styling, as the highlights will look brassy and dry really quickly.
#6 Golden Bronze Pixie, Layered and Side-Swept
What an amazing color choice! Golden bronze is one of my favorites and I wish more of my clients would choose it, especially those with warm and lighter skin tones, because it captures a glow that cooler tones just won’t provide. With short stacked layers, there is volume without the bulk. The side sweep will help to elongate the face, especially if there’s any roundness to the cheeks the way it’s cut. This is a really easy style to maintain and practical as it’s pretty forgiving if you don’t style it every day. However it does rely on the shape being precise so don’t stretch your trims past 6 weeks.
#7 Tousled Pixie That Doesn’t Try Too Hard
This particular hairstyle creates the illusion that a woman has simply rushed out the door without giving her hair another thought. It takes a certain degree of skill to create this look, yet this cut seems to accomplish this with ease. The addition of textured layers creates volume at the crown, which is precisely where women over 40 tend to desire added lift. in addition, this rich chocolate color is one of those hues that can go a few years without a major color refresh—something your schedule and your wallet will appreciate. The front asymmetry also helps to soften otherwise angular features, all while maintaining a look that screams you invested zero effort into looking this good in the first place. If classy with a hint of effort is your goal, this is a perfect option.
#8 Feathered Chestnut Pixie with Soft Bangs
Feathered layers of this type create movement in otherwise static hair, which is why this cut works well for fine hair. It looks like there is more hair. The bangs are soft, which means they don’t force you into a hard line across your forehead. They just kind of drift and frame everything really well. I’ve done this cut on women in corporate jobs and women who work from their kitchens and it looks great in both cases. There’s almost no styling required in the morning. It might just need a quick run through with your fingers and some heat from a round brush blow dryer.
#9 Dark Chestnut Pixie with a Swooped Fringe and Quiet Highlights
This design works because of the swoop. The movement created here is more than just a simple short cut. The highlights are so subtly threaded that they mainly just look dimensional instead of colored. This is ideal for those wanting depth without the additional upkeep. It transitions from weekend errands straight into a dinner reservation. The shape of the fringe is the only real upkeep because once it grows out past the sweet spot, the whole design begins to soften unflatteringly.
#10 Deep Side-Parted Brunette Pixie with an Exaggerated Wave
Here, the gesture is the wave over the forehead, and this is the type of detail that gives some effort to a simple cut. The deep side part really opens up the face, which is why this works so well on oval shapes. There’s plenty of structure to support the drama without going overboard. The brunette’s color is rich and youthful, and the layered texture gives thin to medium hair a lot to work with. Day to day it’s simple, but that wave will have to be recreated each morning, just a few minutes with a flat iron should do it, but it definitely won’t hold from the night before.
#11 Cinnamon Pixie with Bangs That Actually Have Volume
These bangs are powerful; They are full enough to create presence, and they frame a rounder face nicely without looking heavy or dated. The warm cinnamon tone is a great hair color option because it isn’t a red warm tone. It nicely compliments lighter and medium skin tones. The layering technique here is smart, building texture into hair that might not have much on its own. This gives the appearance of thickness through smart cutting rather than product. You will need to trim those bangs frequently though, probably every three to four weeks, because once they hit your eyelids, the whole balance shifts.
#12 Brunette Pixie with Highlights That Know Their Place
Highlights on the cut remain subtle enough to create dimension while still keeping them hidden. Great color! The bangs are long enough to allow you to do side swept one day and pushed forward the next. The overall length keep you out of the salon for anything more than shape maintenance. It’s a sharp clean look that accentuates the cheekbones on oval and heart shape faces. How often you need to come in really depends on how quickly your hair grows. Some of my clients easily stretch this out to eight weeks and others start losing the line at five.
#13 Caramel Pixie with Loose, Natural Waves
The caramel color adds warmth and visual interest to the cut without taking away from it. The loose natural waves soften more angular features and make the whole face look friendlier — something no one asks for, but everyone enjoys. The layers will give body to the hairstyle so that you aren’t battling your hair every morning. Just keep in mind that for waves that will hold, lightweight mousse on damp hair will make a big difference before you blow dry.
#14 Burgundy Asymmetrical Cut with a Soft Fringe
This haircut is definitely for people who want to stand out more, and I mean that in a good way. The rich and full burgundy color shifts slightly to a different color depending on the type of light. The slightly longer front and shorter back asymmetrical lines create a more modern look so you won’t look like you’re trying to dress a lot younger. The front baby hairs will give you more styling options, while the back shorter pieces will decrease your styling time a lot. To hold shape well, this haircut needs to be done on medium to thick hair, as very fine hair will make the asymmetrical collapse making it look intentionally styled to uneven unintentional lengths.
#15 Brunette Pixie with Bangs That Have a Mind of Their Own
This haircut sits on the line between a pixie and a bob. It’s a good place to be if you aren’t quite ready to go for fully short hair but want some of the benefits of shorter hair. The bangs are supposed to be uneven to add some nice character to the style that a blunt fringe would struggle to offer. For this look the best hair color option would be brunette because it allows the cut to be the main focus and the color won’t compete for attention. This cut holds its shape nicely on medium density hair between appointments and if your best features are your eyes and cheekbones, this is a haircut that will make sure everyone else thinks so too.
