50 Long Curly Haircuts That Are Taking Over Right Now

One myth I often hear about long curly hair is that the cut doesn’t matter because the curl “hides everything.” This is far from the truth. Curls actually show every decision made with the scissors (and yes, every cut in the case of the curls). Instead of a flat and straight look, curls showcase things like a bad layer at the bottom of a blunt cut that will trap a triangle shape at the bottom and leave you believing it is doing something for months on end while you let it grow out.
I have had the pleasure of working with clients that have beautiful curls but have been convinced to go blunt with their trims for years and years because someone told them that layers would create “poof”. But then again, I love the moment when people get to see themselves at the end of my cut. I have all the long curly hair styles and colors that I love. They have a range from subtle to super bold and I will be honest about which ones I love the most.

#1: Soft Defined Layers That Let Your Curl Pattern Do the Talking

This stylist gets it. The aim here is to step back and allow the curls to do their thing. With the right layers, the curls can form their clump naturally as opposed to working against it. This hair looks clean and satisfying, definitely not overdone. If your hair is this thick, a fantastic gift to yourself is a haircut that removes some of the weight so your curls can bounce up rather than being weighed down. A decent curling cream will do the job, but wash and do not touch the hair after.

#2: Big Bouncy Layers That Actually Earn the Word “Volume”

The curls are beautiful! It seems like they’re having a good time. I sense a happiness stemming from the deliberate layering done. You can really appreciate the depth in curl size; that’s what happens when a person cut into the curl as opposed to just chopped across it. This is a commitment, and I’m not going to sugar coat this; hair like this really requires consistent moisture. It will absolutely let you know if you neglect your deep condition for a few weeks. But when it is happy, it looks like this, and that is a very nice trade off.

#3: Full Voluminous Layers with a Shape That Frames Everything

This looks like an amazing cut! It is really impressive that the curls fall into such an adorable hourglass shape. That is definitely a difficult feat to pull off on hair this thick and curly. It looks like the stylist really knows what they are doing when it comes to thick hair, and knows **exactly** where to place some weight removal, instead of just randomly layering it like a lot of stylists do. When there are a lot of layers on thick curls, it can really easily end up looking like a Christmas tree. The shape is beautiful! Just make sure you put regular deep conditioners on it to prevent the ends from getting crispy.

#4: Bouncy Natural Layers with Gorgeous Lift at the Root

What I like the most about this cut is the root volume. Getting lift at the crown on thick curly hair while ensuring that it doesn’t look like a lot of effort went in is rare and this cut nails it. The layers are perfect to maintain the weight distribution and short enough in the interior to let everything bounce. When bringing a photo like this to a stylist, the conversation to have is about internal layering. You want bulk taken out from inside the shape as opposed to just cutting some shorter pieces on top. That’s the difference between volume and chaos.

#5: Long Cascading Curls with Beautiful Definition Throughout

I’m really curious about your wash day routine because your curls are so defined! With hair that thick, its difficult for curls to stay defined past about shoulder length as the weight of the hair pulls down on the curls. While layers definitely help because they make the hair lighter and easier to manage, they are probably not the most important thing going on here. I would assume you are using some nice product, maybe some good hold gel or mousse that gives hold without crunch. The layering also adds dimension and prevents it from looking like one heavy blob, so that’s great!

Chic Long Curly Layers with Defined Ringlets
Instagram @juliacatiann

#6: Defined Ringlet Layers with Real Movement

The ringlets have a perfect springiness to them, and the layered cut lets each curl shine as its own individual entity. With medium hair density, you shouldn’t need to layer as much as you would on thick hair. It’s more a matter of defining the shape and allowing the curl pattern to do the rest. Each of these looks requires some styling, but it’s not like the curls just fell like this out of bed. A good hydrating styling product that provides hold as well as a diffuser is doing a lot of the work here.

Chic Long Curly Layers with Soft Face-Framing Pieces

#7: Soft Face-Framing Pieces on Long Curly Layers

I love face framing on curly hair because it can change how a cut looks from the front without changing the length in the back. These pieces highlight the face and the other layers add enough movement to keep the cut interesting. This works beautifully on round and oval faces. The only thing I’d mention is humidity, face framing pieces on curly hair tend to frizz first because they are the shortest, so a lightweight curl cream over the front pieces will really help.

#8: Long Natural Curls with a Clean, Flattering Shape

I also have to agree with them about how simple it is. This is about the cute curly hair and good haircut. And with that, there are flattering layers so they move and don’t just sit there. The curl definition is even throughout the hair. This shows me that the cut was good and that the hair was cut moisterized enough. If your hair is medium to thick and you’ve been scared about getting layers, this is what good layers look like. It’s well shaped and not choppy or thin at the ends. Just regular conditioning treatments and this will be you!

Defined Long Curly Layers with Rich Chocolate Tones
Instagram @mosshairbyrajeev

#9: Rich Chocolate Curls with Gorgeous Depth

I appreciate your choice of color and how the rich brown chocolate hue enhances the curls. Brown curls bring different dimensions as each coil spirals away from the light at a different angle, and straight hair won’t have that. That is one thing I appreciate about coloring curly hair, the texture from the curls does a lot of work. The cut is good, and the definition is nice. This length and volume around the jawline is really flattering for heart shaped faces. Just keep it moisturized! You could also use a curl defining cream for even more definition.

Dynamic Long Curly Cut with Defined Structure

#10: Structured Long Curls with Beautiful Movement

The haircut presents excellent form and I can appreciate some intentional designing rather than simply “long hair with curls” The curls fall in a cascade all the way to the mid-back with a shiny, healthy quality suggesting some effort to care for their hair is paying off. The layers are just enough to maintain a really light movement, and the way it provides that soft easy framing around the face is more than appropriate. If you are going for a curly cut that is clean but doesn’t scream that you’ve just spent two hours fixing it, then this is the vibe.

Dynamic Long Curly Layers with Defined Bounce

#11: Vibrant Defined Curls with Layered Dimension

The curls look fantastic, and each one is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do. You can’t fake that kind of unity, and great cuts and good styling routines produce it. The movement is delightful and the layers add depth, but my favorite part is how the curls frame the face. They don’t even have to be cut to specifically face-frame layers for that to happen. Sometimes the overall shape of the cut accomplishes this. Well-placed layers create that illusion, and that’s what’s happening here. As long as moisture is kept up, these curls will keep performing.

Dynamic Long Curly Layers with Rich Burgundy Tones
Instagram @institutocachear.portugal

#12: Rich Burgundy Curls with Dynamic Layered Movement

My opinion may be a bit biased, but I think burgundy is great on curls. I love it because each curl can be its own little light catcher, and with a layered cut, a rich toned burgundy will really pop with great contrast against the other tones. The layers will create more defined curl formation and movement, yet will not take away from the overall volume and shape. The cut will also help keep the overall shape from looking thin. A lot of maintenance will be needed to keep the color looking vibrant because with more porous hair, especially curly hair, the color will fade faster, and you will have to perform more color-safe conditioning treatments. Also, maintaining a vibrant color is time consuming because the porosity of the hair will help the color fade faster and will require more maintenance, especially in curly hair.

Dynamic Long Curly Layers with Silver Highlights

#13: Silver Highlighted Curls with Layered Bounce

Initially, you probably think, “Curly hair with silver highlights? That won’t work.” Yet, it can be surprisingly nice. Each ringlet captures the highlights, giving the hair a modern, playful look. Lightened hair can be drier and with curly hair, this means you may need to add some extra moisture than you otherwise would. A thorough wash routine for your locks will definitely be worth the payoff, especially if you have lovely, cared for curls.

Dynamic Long Curly Layers with Soft Volume
Instagram @hibastouhi

#14: Bouncy Layered Curls with Gorgeous Face-Framing

The longer front layers give a soft framing effect without the commitment of bangs or other options. The layers also give a lot of volume, and the definition of curls is wonderful, especially for thick hair at this length. An experienced person did the layering because you can tell how it is balanced and intentional. All of that said, this is a lot of maintenance and you need to use moisturizing and curl enhancing products. I hope that living the curly life means you have a whole shelf full of this already and I respect that.

Elegant Long Curly Layers with Rich Warm Tones
Instagram @las.jefas_del.flow

#15: Warm-Toned Curly Layers with an Effortless Feel

What stands out to me is how effortless everything looks. I know from experience that “effortless” looks are never easy and “effortless” curly hair is even more difficult. The warm tones add depth and the natural looking curls provide the appearance of sun-kissed balayage without the full color job. The layers in your hair enhance the waves beautifully and it gives the impression that you spend a lot of time maintaining your hair when you actually don’t want anyone to know. If your hair is the same texture and thickness, this is a very achievable look, just don’t forget the hydration.

Long Defined Ringlet Layers with Subtle Auburn Depth
Instagram @darezza_hair_beauty

#16: Below-Chest Ringlets with Subtle Auburn Dimension

That’s a serious length on serious curl, and keeping 3B/3C ringlets this defined at this length is an accomplishment. The elongated vertical layers are doing what is needed, removing bulk from the bottom half while keeping the curl clumps. That little crown cowlick is actually working in her favor as it provides lift that you’d otherwise have to fight for. I always cut this type of hair dry, curl by curl, as cutting curly hair wet is guesswork. I got tired of guessing about ten years into my career. For the color, a demi lowlight glaze with no bleach is ideal for the curl pattern as it gives that auburn depth without wrecking it. The shrinkage is real though, probably losing about 30% of visible length, so if you’re bringing reference photos to your stylist keep that in mind.

Long Layered Chest-Length Corkscrew Curls with Natural Balayage
Instagram @clement.arjones

#17: Chest-Length Corkscrew Curls with Sun-Warmed Color

I really love those curls! The definition on those ringlets is amazing, and the longer inner layers allow for that natural beautiful clumping to happen. The hair is able to form curl families, and it looks like these curls are doing just that without being weighed down. You have natural face-framing, so no need to cut pieces for that effect. One thing to keep an eye on is the ends, especially if they are lighter and more porous because of sun exposure or coloring, as that is where frizz tends to start. To achieve this look, you would want to cut the hair dry with low tension, add in some layers, and finish with a diffuser and leave-in curl cream.

Long Natural Ringlet Cut with Soft Internal Layers
Instagram @hairandmakeup_byjo

#18: Waist-Length Ringlets with Soft Internal Shaping

I noticed your beautiful hair on the street. What a great example of dense ringlets full of curls. The inner layers are soft and flow beautifully. The dry cut inner layers are cut short enough so they don’t form a heavy curtain. If you do this style, you will have curly hair that moves. I love the short curls at the hairline, which do this naturally. The baby curls form a beautiful face frame all by themselves, and they are gorgeous. This style certainly takes longer to do and it is worth it, as the shrinkage is 20-30% and the curls really do require a good amount of cooperation to come together like this.

Long Voluminous Curly Cut with Curtain Bangs
Instagram @jenviav_hair_stylist_

#19: High-Volume Curly Cut with a Curtain Fringe

I really like the curtain bangs on 3B-3C spiral types! I like how it micro curls at the top of the head that naturally tapers the hair for a really nice face framing effect. This style works to prevent the blunt bangs that could go really wrong with curly hair. The S-cut shingled layers are going to lift those curls a lot!! But, I will say, this is heavy hair, so if you aren’t careful, the weight is going to stretch the ringlets. This hair will have to be diffused! Air drying this dense of hair is going to pull everything straight. You MUST use a good porosity-balanced styling cream in order to get a defined look and also a dry cut to make the curls form in the pattern; it is not optional.

S-Shaped Long Curly Layers with Wispy Face-Framing Pieces
Instagram @charismaticcurls.des

#20: S-Shaped Layers with Wispy Face-Framing That Reads Like Micro Bangs

The face-framing strands serve an interesting purpose. They aren’t really bangs, but create a softness around the face without the growing out drama. The 2C-3A type has lovely movement, and long internal layers with point cutting keep curl clumps intact but remove bulk from all the right places. What I would want to discuss with this one is density, because high density like this can weigh the roots down and show frizz the second the humidity rises. I would also address the small asymmetry, the clumps on the right side appear looser than the left, so curl-by-curl shaping and targeted diffusion with a lightweight gel or cream will balance everything out.

Sunlit Root-Melt Long Ringlet Layers
Instagram @hairbylda

#21: Root-Melt Ringlets with Babylight Dimension

The colour work here is amazing because skill and patience are required to light up each coil with babylights without disturbing the curl pattern. The root melt gives that seamless grow-out effect, so you’re not in my chair every six weeks worrying about a hard line, and the brightness through the mid-lengths and ends adds dimension and makes each ringlet distinct. The internal layers really maintain the 3B-3C pattern without over-thinning, which is crucial for high-density hair like this. The tradeoff is that highlighted curls will need more moisture than their virgin-haired equivalents, and the weight at this length can diminish crown lift, so keep up with your conditioning and ask your stylist about some volume at the roots. Best cut dry so you can see the true shape of everything.

Textured Long Curly Cut with Defined Curls

#22: Long Textured Curls with Natural Definition

In this style, the main focus is the curl, and everything else just needs to support that. The bounce is there, and the shape is good without being too tight. For hair this thick and bouncy, the layers will help soften and frame the face, which is great when the curl pattern is really voluminous. For the maintenance, it’s mainly about product; you want to keep the curls defined, and the routine consistent. It doesn’t have to be that complicated. Just find 2 or 3 things that work and stick to them.

Textured Long Curly Cut with Subtle Highlights
Instagram @spadascrespasecacheadas

#23: Medium-Density Curls with Subtle Dimensional Highlights

Those highlights look amazing because they ***do not*** try to compete with the hair’s natural curling pattern. ***Instead they*** blend with them. The highlights reflect the light on top of the curls and create shadows in the troughs to increase depth. Medium density hair of this length does require a good texturized layer to help increase the volume to the point of being thick and full without it looking unmanageable. The curls are well defined, the movement is natural, and the overall effect is ***that*** a person ***has*** really wonderful hair and ***therefore gets*** the best compliment of all. Curly hair is very thirsty when color is added so moisturizing needs to increase.

Textured Long Curly Layers with Rich Copper Highlights
Instagram @hairdressercognac

#24: Copper-Highlighted Curly Layers with Warmth and Dimension

I absolutely love the combination of hairy copper and curls. The way the light plays off those curls is just enchanting. You definitely don’t achieve that with straight hair. The softer layers around the face help soften any angular face shapes, and overall, the look is playful and full of personality. The copper color will fade quickly, so get ready to invest in a color-depositing conditioner to maintain its vibrancy until your next salon visit. For the curls, you’ll definitely need product to support your curl definition, and if you’re already maintaining your color, you might as well add a product to the shower shelf.

#25: Big Defined Curls with Layered Shape and Lift

The volume here is the type that you can’t fake, that is just thick, healthy curly hair with a cut that knows how to showcase it. The curls are bouncy and defined with layers that move and are cohesive to the shape, and the subtle layers around the face adds dimension without losing length, which I always appreciate. On thick hair like this, the temptation is to thin it out a lot, and that is almost always a mistake because then you are left with some wispy, frizzy pieces that don’t fit with the rest. The better approach is layering, and that is exactly what is done here.

Voluminous Spiral Layers with Warm Caramel Balayage
Instagram @dunya.yasir

#26: Waist-Length Spiral Layers with Caramel Balayage

This hair looks awesome! The graduated layers create a teardrop shape to the hair that prevents the ends from looking heavy and triangular, like long thick curly hair can get. Plus, the center part helps balance it out. The caramel balayage is a great choice for warmth and dimension where the curl will catch the most light. The root melt is also good for a low-maintenance grow out. To be honest, styling 3B/3C hair at waist length is going to require time, a good diffuser, and a lot of product due to the real shrinkage. Waist length hair is going to require more product than someone with shoulder length hair. If you’re committed to the length, this is how to make it look intentional instead of overwhelming.

Stylish Long Curly Layers with Lively Texture
Instagram: lillyghairdesign

#27: Lively Cascading Curls with Natural Body

I really like the simplicity of this style. The length is nice and generous without looking heavy, the shape is flattering, and the curls are bouncy and full without looking overdone. When it comes to curly hair, medium-density is the sweet spot because it provides a lot of volume, and this style is great for taking advantage of that. It has a soft and natural shape to it around the face, and for defined curls, I recommend really good hydrating curl cream and regular trimming. Split ends on curly hair look bad, but also interrupt the curl pattern and most people don’t realize how much extra frizz they cause.

#28: Playful Ombre Curls with Layered Movement

I like the ombre job here. It feels subtle enough that the color job feels more like natural dimension. That’s the best approach for curly hair. The movement, bounce, and overall warm, energetic and fun feel is really great. With all the volume and movement creating softness, it works across a variety of face shapes. One thing I want to highlight is that with curly hair, you want to be more careful with the placement of the colors than with straight hair because the lighter ends tend to be drier and more porous, so those ends will show frizz faster. If you want to avoid that, you have to stay on top of your moisture game with this look.

Bold Long Curly Layers with Defined Volume

#29: Rounded Curly Layers with a Bold Fringe

I think the rounded fringe is great. You get this youthful retro look, and with curly hair, rounded fringes are softer in gentleness compared to blunt fringes. There is so much volume with this style and the layered cut really lifts the look. This shape works best with round and oval faces. For anyone thinking of getting a fringe with their curly cut, be prepared to go longer than you think you should, because curls tend to spring up a lot. A fringe that looks good wet could turn into one of those situations where the hair just covers the whole forehead and this is going to happen really quickly as the hair dries.

Playful Long Curly Layers with Defined Bounce
Instagram: curlssebeauty

#30: Bouncy Long Layers with Shine and Movement

Good moisture and nourishment is very evident in these curls as they are shiny. This is how a cut looks with beautifully maintained hair. The style really helps with the bounce of the curls, and the layer is just right to keep the pattern of the curl. With the length and movement, this style will suit most face shapes and it adaptable in a way that shorter curly hairstyles sometimes aren’t. The thickness and shine certainly show that this person knows how to take care of curly hair that is honestly half the battle.

#31: Rich Chestnut Curls with Volume and Warmth

The chestnut color is gorgeous! The color looks darker in the tighter curls and warmer where the light hits the looser waves. This gives amazing dimension even without highlights or lowlights. The voluminous layers also look great framing the face and there is great movement in this cut as well. This type of layering on medium to thick hair that is wavy to curly texture adds fullness in the right places and takes away bulk in the needed areas. Moisture is key to control the frizz that this length and texture is bound to have. You will get a lot of compliments because the color and cut combination are stunning!

Textured Long Curly Layers with Defined Volume

#32: Long Defined Curls with Textured Layering

While the subtle layering in the cut may seem simple, it is actually quite effective due to the varying lengths of the falling curls and the lack of visible “steps.” This cut’s layering can easily be described as seamless, and that is what creates the movement and depth in this style. The curls are all bouncy and well-defined with a consistent shape from the roots to the ends and while the shape is well maintained from top to bottom. Although the cut does a lot of the work, hydration and curl specific products will help maintain the look.

Defined Long Curly Layers with Natural Bounce
Instagram: stylesandmoore

#33: Natural Bouncy Curls with a Flattering Layered Shape

Every layer working with the natural curl pattern instead of against it gives really nice bounce. From every angle, the flattering shape and consistent definition really stand out. Even though it sounds simple, it takes a great cut and a lot of upkeep to pull off this look. If you’re thinking of adding some color to your hair, this can really help to bring out the layers. This type of haircut really shows color and each curl of varying lengths will catch the color differently in each curl. Just remember to condition your curls.

Effortlessly Defined Long Curly Layers
Instagram: curlssebeauty

#34: Effortless Long Curly Layers That Look Better Than They Should

The definition, movement, and shape are all there, but I’ve got to say, there’s nothing ‘styled’ about this haircut; it just looks like really nice hair. One of my favorites for curly hair is when the layering is really blunt but the texture is very good, and that’s the case here. This is phenomenal for medium to high density hair. The only real commitment that is required is keeping the curls hydrated because the second that curly hair dries, the illusion of effortlessness will go.

#35: Long Textured Curls with Consistent Natural Bounce

The bounce is consistent from root to tip! On long curly hair this is harder to achieve due to gravity. Also, a layered cut helps with weight distribution, plus, the texture looks very natural and healthy. This cut is versatile enough for work on a Monday and drinks on a Friday which is what you want from a cut because no one has time for a style that only works for one occasion. Deep curls tend to respond well to moisture-based products, and if you’re in a humid climate, you may want to carry a humidity-defying product.

Glamorous Long Curly Layers with Subtle Warm Highlights
Instagram: morethancurls_

#36: Warm-Highlighted Curly Layers with Strategic Placement

What makes this stand out from many highlighted curly cuts is the placement. Highlights are intentionally placed so that they frame the face, as they will catch light naturally, rather than being placed at random. Purposeful placement of highlights may take longer in the chair, but the end result is more polished and natural. Layers will help with movement and the warm tones will add softness to the overall look and create an inviting look. Longer curls will tangle more, that is just physics. Therefore, regular detangling will be necessary and using a wide tooth comb with conditioner will make your life easier.

#37: Curly Ponytail with Crown Braiding Detail

I love the way curling my hair in a ponytail makes me feel so polished. The distraction braid at the top of the ponytail also elevates the style from simple hair up to something intentional. Oodles of defined curls in the ponytail makes the look, and it works best with medium/thick hair. The style works great with oval and heart-shaped faces. If the ponytail is quite loose, the curls will need some mousse or gel to keep them bouncy, not limp!

Textured Long Curly Layers with Lively Highlights
Instagram: alex_youngg_

#38: Long Defined Curls with Lively Dimensional Highlights

These highlights are in great harmony with the base color. With curly hair, it can be hard to find a highlight/balance placement since each curl can catch the highlight beautifully or look stripey, so this placement is stunning. You did great on the dimensions, and all the curls look healthy and defined. The length and mobile layers are generous. A note for highlighted curly hair: it does require more moisture than the average curly head, so it’s really important to bump up your moisture routine post color. As long as you keep feeding these layers, they’ll look great for a while!

Gorgeous Long Curly Layers with Warm Caramel Highlights
Instagram: morethancurls_

#39: Caramel-Highlighted Long Curly Layers with Depth

I really enjoy the look of warm caramel highlights on dark curly hair. It makes the hair look a lot more dimensional. Each curl is different and will make its own gradient and each layer will look warm and rich. The cut has long and defined layers that create movement and with a light layering technique keeps it mobile without sacrificing too much density. If you are considering something like this, be sure to tell your colorist about the best highlights technique for your hair type, whether it be balayage or foil, because it can alter the look and how natural it appears to be on curly hair.

Beautiful Long Curly Layers with Sun-Kissed Highlights
Instagram: curlmaven

#40: Sun-Kissed Layered Curls with Easy Movement

With this haircut I can already feel the sunny days and sunny vibes coming on. The sun-kissed highlights look soft and natural. The layers help manage the weight of the hair, and give a beautiful, carefree, and photogenic quality to the curls. The layers do a lot of work for thicker and medium hair, providing movement to the hair while also lightening it enough so the curls can form properly. At this length of hair the ends can become super dry, so it is important to stay on top of moisture and do regular trims. With this style, the effort is worth it. This haircut is really nice, and easy to manage.

Luxurious Long Curly Layers with Warm Undertones

#41: Warm-Toned Long Curls with Layered Texture

The warm tones provide a soft glow to the curls which in turn, create a positive reaction to how the color reflects in any lighting! The layers that fall gently below the shoulders are shaped to flow in a soft feminine way. The volume is managed because the density is just right, allowing the style to look good without the flatness that may come from being easy to style. This is one of those haircuts that allows for lots of different styles. There is sufficient length and structure so you can wear it down, pull it back, or do a braid. Keeping the curls defined at this length does take a bit of effort, but it isn’t anything beyond the usual upkeep.

#42: Layered Curls with Defined Shape and Great Texture

The texture on this cut is very nice. The movement is lively, and every curl is defined. The layering gives structure and shape to the cut without the look of layers being thrown in. For medium to thick hair, this type of structured cutting is what separates a good curly cut from a great one. If this level of precision cutting is what you are after, then I would recommend using a curl-enhancing cream to define the curls separately, because that type of definition is not happening by accident. Regularly moisturizing the hair will help maintain the shape of the cut and reduce frizz.

#43: Warm-Toned Curly Layers with Softness Around the Face

I love how the layers frame your face. I also think the softer framing balances out stronger jaw lines and more angular features. The warm tones in your hair look rich and textured, and not like an artificial color. They look like really nice natural hair. The curls are so bouncy and well defined and the layers really enhance that. It’s always the fear that layers on curly hair sacrifice length, and that isn’t the case when layers are done well. The biggest maintenance is regular conditioning, which is pretty good.

#44: Caramel Balayage on Defined Long Curly Layers

Caramel balayage looks fantastic on defined curls because the highlights are on top of every curl and the low lights are in the valleys. Out of all the ways to style your hair, this is the only way that no amount of work with a flat iron will suffice. The layers add to the fullness of the style without being overwhelming. The sun-kissed look works with most face shapes and it looks great on everyone. Maintenance is a little higher than for a solid color because the curls will require some moisturizing products and the color will need protective products, but the look is worth it.

Voluminous Long Curly Layers with Defined Texture

#45: Full Voluminous Curls with Rich, Natural Texture

I appreciate thick, gorgeous, and beautifully curly hair, no matter the length. I can absolutely admire the impressive volume, and the rich texture is so enticing. The curls look wonderful and the layers really help keep the shape. With thick curls like this, having “great volume” and “overwhelming volume” is determined purely by the cut and this is a fantastic cut. If you wanted to go further, some subtle highlights would add dimension, but honestly, the natural curl pattern provides a lot of depth.

#46: Golden Ombre on Dynamic Long Curly Layers

It is clear that there is a seamless transition from a dark brown root color to light golden ends that really compliments the color of the curls. Every individual curl reflects the golden color differently which adds to the multi-dimensional quality of the curls. The vibrant layers offer a lot of movement and this style works particularly well for round and oval face shapes. It does take a lot of commitment to maintain the colour and also the curls. Moisturizing the curls is essential along with protecting the colour to ensure that neither is neglected. The look is really stunning when well maintained.

#47: Rich Dark Curls with Soft, Strategic Highlights

I really love the combination of a dark base with highlights that show through! It really gives a lot of dimension to tight curls. My favorite part is how the highlights come through as sparkles instead of streaks. The front layers are longer to provide some natural face framing, and the volume is amazing. Thick curly hair can be really high maintenance because it needs moisture, the right products, and a lot of patience. When it is taken care of, the look is great and everyone will love it. The best look is to embrace your hair and all of it’s natural texture.

Classic Long Curly Layers with Soft Definition

#48: Classic Layered Curls with Soft Definition and Natural Movement

This curly cut is among the styles that do not yell ‘look at me’ and are all the more beautiful for it. Defining the look are gentle layers and a soft, unstructured, natural movement. The mid-to-thick density supports it and the curls bounce freely and without stiffness. This timeless cut will always look good and will not go out of style due to trends. It just speaks to great hair. To maintain this look, all it takes is a good cut and some great hydrating products.

#49: Defined Textured Curls with Natural Volume

The lively curls and textured layers allow for movement and expression. The definition and volume look natural and overall the shape flatters an oval face beautifully. This cut is low maintenance, as the curls do most of the styling work. The right products for your specific curl pattern are needed to maintain definition. If you wanted to add color, highlights would look gorgeous with this kind of layered cut as each layer catches light at a different point.

#50: Rich Chocolate Curly Layers with Bounce and Body

I love the beautiful head of bouncy chocolate curls. The natural color dimension is stunning. The layers around the face and the movement look fantastic. One honest piece of advice, though, is to be careful with the number of layers. For medium to thick curly hair, there comes a point where layers go from creating movement to creating a pyramid shape, and that point varies from person to person. A good stylist should be able to determine where that line is for you. These curls will be bouncy every single day if you keep the moisture up!
