Light brown hair color is often overlooked as simply boring and uninteresting, I totally understand why this could be the case. However, with many of my clients, especially those in their 40’s and above, light brown appears to perform an almost indescribable function, which is to tie everything together, creating a more coordinated look. The complexion appears calmer, the eyes stand out more, and everything just feels easier and more settled.
I have worked with a lot of clients, but one in particular, stands out to me. For 15 years, she had dark espresso hair. I was able to convince her to allow me to color her hair warm light brown. She was finally able to relax without that hair and told me that it was the first time in a long time that she didn’t feel her face was competing with her hair. Light brown hair is not about making a statement, or being overly attached to the color, it’s about making your life easier and making it so the attention is on you. Most people do not realize that there is a wide range of colors that fall under the category of light brown. There are colors from sandy to rich honey brown, and we can find a shade that will work for almost everyone.

#1: Soft Layered Cut with Bangs That Sit Just Right
The bangs add a quintessential chic feel and lived-in vibe to the hair overall. The cut’s mid-length layers give shape and movement, and are great for hair that has some weight to it. With weight comes shape, and this cut is effortless showcasing that, however, a lot of shaping has been done to achieve that look. Expect to be in for some bang trims in about a month and a half, though, the rest of this look is low maintenance.

#2 A Textured Bob That Feels Like a Fresh Start
If you want something lighter that frames the face and falls to about the shoulders, this is another great option as well. The focus of this look is on the strands that are highlighted and are made to look sun kissed. This is what provides this look with a more natural glow, versus an obviously colored look. The cut still falls to the jaw and also provides a nicer look to your neck and chin. If you have thinner hair, this is especially great as it makes hair look fuller and more voluminous.

#3 A Lob with Highlights That Warm Everything Up
I love the softness of the front layers. Since they hang lighter, they don’t just hang over and draw focus in. The soft layers look great and feel even better because they have no chunks, plus they don’t need much maintenance. Little to no maintenance is needed to keep the look in check, however, if you want the layers to be more noticeable, just add a little texturizing spray!

#4 Wavy Lob with a Quiet Kind of Dimension
The waves show how good the cut is if the hair is drawn back. The cut is complemented further by how the highlights are strategically placed to look natural. The length is perfect because the hair can be put in a quick updo or can be drawn back and the hair can still be free and not caught at an irritating length. With how the hair looks, a tropical vacation is justifiable.

#5 Shoulder-Length Waves with a Little Something Extra
To keep the look soft as well as bright but not overbearing, the layers are strategically placed and the strands are kept thin. If you don’t notice the strands, great job! The layers are soft and look natural and like they come from a wonderful cut, but if you want to add a little effort with a curling wand, feel free to. If you want low maintenance gorgeous hair, this is definitely the look for you.

#6 Bouncy Curls and Bangs with Real Personality
I love the bangs! The sleek messy look with the curls really allows them to look natural. Something about this look just makes me feel confident and sure of myself. I love the light brown. It’s warm and friendly, but still chill and cares about texture. This style works with your hairs natural curls and won’t fight against the shape.

#7 An Easy Shag with Curtain Bangs
Curtain bangs are always an iffy style, but with these, it’s a definite yes! Pulling the hair from the forehead and opening the face is a pretty underappreciated balance. The shag layering gives more of a body and the light brown makes it a naturally casual hue. I can definitely see this style lasting from Tuesday morning to Friday night without a need to be restyled.

#8 Soft Waves That Don’t Try Too Hard
he effortless style combines shorter and longer cut lengths that motivate movement. The waves falling to give a fun variation to the style and I hope the light brown warm color is just right and pulls everything together. If you struggle with frizzy hair, I suggest using a smoothing serum on slightly damp hair.
The look balances casual and put together. The warm light waves suit the complexion and definitely give a low maintenance look. Just a wash and air dry gives a great result. I wouldn’t change much.

#9 A Textured Bob with an Effortless Feel
I appreciate the casual and polished look. Warm light waves are good for the complexion. Honestly, it’s not a high-maintenance style. Just wash it and let it air dry, and it looks intentional. There’s not a lot I would change.

#10 Tousled Layers That Feel Right for Everyday
The tousled appearance is what captures the customers for this look. There is a fine line between messy and effortless. These highlights are so well done that they don’t look like highlights, and that’s a big plus because a lot of my clients don’t like really loud color. This is a style that requires very little and gives a lot, so if your hair has been feeling dry and you use heat on your hair a lot, I’d say this is a good one to go for.

#11 Long Layers with That Golden, Lived-In Color
I mainly liked the color! The roots being a bit darker looks so natural, it looks like your hair naturally lightens in the sun. Longer layers like that in finer hair types work really well as it adds shape without losing the bulk. The color blending will add upkeep though, you’ll want to check in a couple months to keep that transition soft and intentional.

#12 A Wavy Lob with Quiet Warmth
I know haircuts can sometimes be a hassle, but this one was a breeze! The warm color is super soft and gives my inner soft glow a perfect match. It is very low maintenance, has some texture and length to it, so it won’t fall flat, and will be easy to manage. I think I will go with a light mousse and just scrunch it so it can be free!

#13 Relaxed Waves with a Soft Shape
Most people find it challenging to describe ease when asked. Ease includes a mixture of soft layers that blend and waves that are loose enough to appear unplanned. The light brown here is simple and effortless. The face framing is nice and without being too obvious. Face framing works best when you can’t really tell it’s there.

#14 A Bob with Movement and a Little Bit of Play
The waves on this bob are great as they are non-uniform and unpredictable, which complements the shorter style and makes it look more polished. The light brown color is soft and pretty, and it does not come off too sweet if that makes sense. For that softer hair, a volumizing powder will help you keep this shape throughout the day. Just a little dusted in with your fingers will help.

#15 A Textured Bob with Something a Little Unexpected
I love the cool asymmetry in this style! It’s a great amount so your eyes keep moving without being distracting. The light brown color is warm and clean, and the texture is wonderfully natural. If you have a round face and have been hesitant to try a bob, just look at how this one sways! The combination of layers and sway is beautiful.

#16 A Classic Bob with a Soft Fringe
The bangs are soft enough not to push the face off, which is the main thing people worry about with bangs and the thing I’m trying to get right. It is a clean nice shape, the cut that feels good anywhere and never feels like too much. If your hair is fine, you have to be realistic about the amount of volume you can get without product, though a little root lifting spray does wonders here.

#17 A Wavy Bob That Keeps Things Simple
I like the simplicity of this style. I like the waves, and the light brown color is a nice touch. The layered bob cut gives a lot of versatility with the length. It’s not too short that you feel exposed, but long enough that you don’t feel drag down by it. If you like styles that require little to no maintenance in the mornings, this is a great option.

#18 Chin-Length Texture with Warmth
Chin-length styles can be a bit hardcore, but think beachy waves to soften the look and add a welcoming element! This style slightly obfuscates the blunt-ness of the jaw. The light brown-caramel color reflected the warmer tones of the the skin, pairing nicely with her cheek bones and making it more approachable. If you’re considering a shorter style, this is perfect to ease you into it.
Shorter layers around the crown add an added element of movement hair that shag styles can sometimes lack. The face framing layers are a great way to accent cheekbones and add shape to the face. The warm light brown color is perfect if your skin tends to get washed out with cooler tones. This style has a lot of character, and is the type of style people notice but can’t quite figure out.

#19 A Shag That Feels Modern and Lived In
Shorter layers around the crown create movement and life to the hair and that isn’t always achievable with a shag. The face framing layers beautifully accentuate the cheeks and nice. The light brown is warm and perfect if your skin tends to get washed out with cooler tones. It’s a haircut with personality, the sort where people notice but can’t quite put their finger on what’s different.

#20 Shoulder-Length Waves with Easy, Everyday Polish
The light brown color offers a bit of variety to the style, and the layers ensure it isn’t heavy or one-dimensional. I would recommend this cut to someone looking for something different without being too different. It also suits a lot of different face shapes and lifestyles, which may sound easy to do but really isn’t.

#21 A Textured Lob with Bangs That Feel Modern
I want to target the bangs that are supposed to look a little messy and effortless. The thickness and piecey texture are just right. The whole look is effortless yet polished with the combination of the textured lob. The light brown shade consists of multiple tones, and the color appears dimensional because there is a reflective underpinning color. If you are hesitant to get bangs, you can use this as a reference to show your stylist how soft they can be.

#22 A Curly Bob with Natural Light
The curls here move in their own way, and the cut respects that as opposed to trying to impose something over the top. Most people miss this, but the highlights are strategically placed where the curl catches the light. If you have curls like this, the shape of the cut is crucial because the texture is already doing a lot of the work. It’s stunning when the right call is minimal intervention.

#23 Layered Warmth with Bangs That Frame Gently
This style has layers with bangs that fall beautifully. It adds a lot of movement to the hair cut even when standing still. The colour makes a huge difference as well. It is a nice warm light brown which keeps the face bright. The bangs sit just right on the forehead which contributes to the look being more natural as opposed to deliberate. Yes, the bangs will require more upkeep than the rest of the hair but they make such a strong statement. If you come in for a few trims, the cut will be worth it.

#24 Textured Waves with a Natural, Undone Quality
I appreciate that this doesn’t have the salon look in a nice way. The hair is fantastic and the waves look super effortless! The layers are giving volume and movement. The warm light brown color is also spot on! For the styling, the less done the better! Just a bit of sea salt spray and let it air dry.

#25 A Light Brown Pixie with Quiet Confidence
I know that getting a pixie cut is a large and serious commitment, but honestly, I think this is so perfect. This one has enough length on top and has soft texture. Also, the color is perfect. This one will need to be trimmed a little more often than others, but the positive is that you will have easy and not stressful mornings. The trade off will be worth it! That’s actually a comforting and nice feeling to know that you will have.
