51 Inspiring Layered Haircuts for Long Hair That Add Movement and Volume

While I was reorganizing my space recently, I came across an old photo book – I think it was from 2009. I’ve recognized most of the clients in this book and they all had layers: those chunky, obvious, very ‘Rachel Green ten years too late’ layers. Some of them actually looked good though. The thing about long hair and layers is that even when the technique isn’t 100% spot on, the hair moves, and does something for you that a single-length cut never achieves. I’ve had long hair clients before – healthy, shiny, and all one length – and it just… sits there, like it’s waiting for permission to do something. But as soon as you add some layers, even subtle ones, suddenly the whole thing just wakes up.

The real magic with getting long hair layered is there is an infinite set of options for how to do it. I have done layers that start at the cheek and layers that start below the collarbone and those haircuts come from completely different worlds, even if they are both considered “long layers.” What looks best depends on your hair’s density, texture, and how your hair behaves when styled. I once had a client with fine hair but a lot of it, and for two years we tried to determine the best layering approach for her until we finally figured it out. So if this is the path you want to take, there are countless options and the following images will help narrow down to what you best envision for yourself.

Photos

#1: Warm Brunette Balayage with Long Flowing Layers

I really love this look! The color really helps to create movement in the style. The balayage is done at the right level so it gives ‘been part of her for a while’ feel, which is the goal. The long, soft layers make the waves fall beautifully and effortlessly. I can tell someone put some time into getting that hair to look that good with a curling wand! If your hair falls a little flat, or if your color needs some life, this combination of soft layering and balayage will be the best solution.

#2: Long Layers with Wispy Bangs That Actually Work

When it comes to wispy bangs, some look great, but they require commitment, and that’s what people don’t warn you about enough. Every 3-4 weeks, you’ll need to do trims. If you don’t mind learning to do it yourself, or going to a salon to get it done, then it’s not a big deal. Still, the cut is lovely! The layers offer a nice fullness in her hair, and the bangs really soften her face in a way that I think looks really youthful. If you have medium to thick hair, this will look great on you! Just be open to the hefty amount of bang maintenance you’re going to have.

#3: Soft Layers Starting at the Collarbone with a Little Brightness

The first impression of this cut may suggest it is basic, but clearly a lot of consideration has gone into it. The layers begin at the collarbone and continue downward. This results in an even taper, and a subtle framing of the face. It works with straight and wavy hair, and is the type of cut I recommend often. The highlights are subtle, and they catch the light ever so often; and honestly, that is all you need. Just a little something to break up the color and add some dimension. Not every highlight has to be an event.

#4: Clean Layered Cut with Nice Internal Texture

I can understand your appreciation for internal layering. Although internal layers don’t always translate well to photographs, they give the hair movement that can be appreciated by just running your fingers through the hair. The hair length has been preserved, the ends are healthy, and the hair sways beautifully. In straight hair, that sort of invisible layering is what differentiates a good haircut from one that just looks like the ends were snipped.

#5: Big Voluminous Layers with Soft Framing

The hair’s thickness and health prove it has been well taken care of. The layers just improve the look further. The face framing highlights are softer than curtain bangs that are everywhere. They look nice around the cheeks. The highlights help with this. This much volume doesn’t happen naturally, so light hold hairspray along with round brushing during the blowout is key to getting this look.

#6: Long Layers and Soft Bangs in That Pretty Blonde

This blonde shade is beautiful and does not have an overly harsh or icy tone. It has a soft look with highlights and the bangs complete the appearance well. I always say when girls have bangs and long layered hair, it can look either really intentional or super 1997, and this one is definitely in the intentional camp. The layers create some volume in the mid lengths which is where blondes tend to need it the most, because lightened hair can easily look thin. She has good enough thickness to carry this style well, and if your hair is finer, you can absolutely do something like this, but the layers would need to be longer and less of them.

#7: Long Layers with a Smooth Straight Finish

Sometimes, you might want to see how your hair layers look when they are straight and sleek, and this is a great example of this. The layers aren’t too dramatic; they are just removing weight in the right places so the hair can move instead of just hanging like a curtain. This is the type of hair cut that looks sophisticated, but it is also a cut that requires a bit of effort when it comes to styling. If your hair air dries straight, then you will likely do very little to maintain this look. But in the case where you have a lot of waves or any kind of frizz, you will have to put in some effort to get this look. That means doing some work like flat ironing or blow drying. Those are just facts.

#8: Modern Straight Layers with a Natural Shine

The haircut looks like it should be worth it, but I’m sure losing hair monthly becomes annoying. I like the haircut looks simple enough to do yourself, but it probably takes a lot of time to maintain the quality with all that conditioning involved. The layers are softly done and mid-back length which gives a nice graceful movement around the face (and yes I can see the light reflecting off them). It does make me wonder if she is naturally blessed out or is just a devotee to hair oil (I imagine buying a new bottle every month would definitely be a hassle). It’s probably a pain once the cut settles into that nonchalant, casual look. I also wonder if the cut would be self-defeating to someone with fine hair because without some sort of product to give it body, I can see how the hair would tend to go a little flat and it might just be a lot.

#9: Glossy Long Layers for Straight to Wavy Hair

Wow! Look at how shiny this hair is! The hair shine is more important than the haircut, but the cut looks amazing too. The face-framing layers are soft and blended and they make the hairstyle look younger. If your hair is naturally wavy, this will be easy to style between visits because the waves will move the layers and not fight them. If you aren’t naturally shiny, I suggest doing a good treatment once a week to get that kind of shine.

#10: Long Glossy Layers with Soft Curls at the Ends

I love the look! It’s so classic and has that soft, bouncy finish, not stiff and tight. Although, the overall look might be pretty expensive. Bouncy ends are where the expensive feels come in! Soft, bouncy movement at the ends is such a vibe. The layers work together to make each curl different because they each catch at different lengths. Almost like a cascading look. Super stunning for a night out, or for a Tuesday when you want to spend 20 minutes on a curling wand. Most people find the upkeep a nightmare since the curls rarely last more than a day, but boy is it a look when the curls are fresh!

#11: Glossy Layers with a Soft Wave at the Ends

I like the subtle wave at the bottom. It looks a bit more relaxed and easygoing than a full curl or a polished wave; it looks more like the hair just decided to do that on its own, and I think that’s great! The long, graduated layers keep the length and lighten the weight of the hair while adding movement towards the middle, which helps to avoid that heavy look. If your hair is fine to medium, this type of layering can give the hair a fuller appearance, which is a definite plus. The shine means she’s got something good in her finishing product, I would guess a light serum or spray.

#12: Gently Layered Long Hair with a Soft Natural Wave

There is literally nothing complicated about this layered cut. It’s also fairly versatile, with the cut starting just above the shoulders. Bonus points with this cut is that hair is healthy and shiny, with a natural wave which will assist with volume. This is the sort of haircut I give to clients who want to look more polished with minimal effort during the morning. However, styling time is an issue. If you want those waves to look purposeful, you will have to use a light mousse and do some scrunching while diffusing. On a lazy day, you can let your hair air dry and it will still look good, although it may give you a different look.

Smooth Long Layers with Defined Curls

#13: Polished Layers with Defined Curls Throughout

This hairstyle may look like it takes a long time to do, but it is actually super easy to do and the results are amazing. Curls are soft, defined, and beautifully blended, allowing the person to hardly notice how the different layers snag and catch at different lengths. To top it off, the warm, rich color is just to die for. The color may even look so good that people stop you on the streets to ask how you maintain your hair to look that good. The perfect hair type for this hairstyle is medium to thick hair. This is because a good hair density is crucial to help the curls stay in place and to help the overall look of the style look full. However, if your hair is finer, you can still do this style. Just keep in mind that without a really strong hold setting spray, your curls probably won’t last as long compared to other people with thicker hair.

#14: Long Flowing Layers with Soft Bangs and Volume

The overall shape of the haircut is very nice, it appears very dense and has been layered well. I really like soft bangs and curtain bangs. The layers look so airy and bouncy, almost like they have been blow dried with a rounded brush which I really like. I get very excited for haircuts like these because there is a lot that can be done with the thickness. I will say that a haircut like this does require some effort in terms of styling to create that amount of volume and definition. It’s not a wash and go haircut for most people, but the result is definitely worth it.

Rich Burgundy Layered Waves with Soft Volume

#15: Deep Burgundy Waves with Layered Movement

Amazing color service is always honest about upkeep to clients because I love how burgundy looks on different people. It fades quickly, especially with color as intense as this one. From the picture, you can probably tell this client will need frequent touch-up sessions, probably every couple of weeks. Now, look at the cut and color as well. The color is at least a deep, beautiful, rich burgundy. The layers in this haircut are creating a gorgeous cascading effect with the waves of the length. The overall cut is quite versatile too, as she can wear it straightened, and it would look like a completely different cut from the one shown here, which I always appreciate in a haircut. If burgundy is your color, and if you want to cross the high bar on maintenance and touch-ups, this is one of the best examples I have seen.

#16: Soft Layered Long Cut with Warm, Rich Color

This cut is super classically pretty. The soft framing layers are so good and really complement the warm tones in the color. This is such a great example of a look that shows how thick dramatic layers are not needed to achieve a big change. It really is just about taking the right amount of weight so the hair can really breathe and move. The end waves are such a lovely touch. A little help from a straightener or large barrel curling wand will do the trick, but it’s for sure not an hour’s worth of styling effort.

#17: Long Flowing Layers with Face-Framing Softness

The length on this is amazing. It goes past the shoulders and the layers are cut to keep that length whilst still giving movement which is what you want when you’ve been growing your hair out and don’t want to feel like you’re losing anything. The face framing pieces are all soft and blended, nothing sharp or chunky. If she added a balayage to this it would be incredible. This kind of cut needs trims every 8-10 weeks to keep the layers from growing out and going shapeless, but that’s true of most layered cuts honestly.

#18: Radiant Layers with Soft Sun-Kissed Color

These highlights look amazing! They give off that fresh out of the ocean vibe. I think your layers make the color shine more and get accentuated while the hair moves. The cut is perfect and has great movement through the mid and end sections. It added a nice soft frame around the face and is very low maintenance. Personally I think it’s the layering and color that combo that works the best. Either one would be great on its own, but together they really elevate this look.

#19: Sleek Glossy Layers with Soft Movement

The hair looks so shiny and well done, it could seriously be in a shampoo commercial! It doesn’t have a lot of movement which I think is a good thing because it is a subtle layered cut. I can see that it has a shine to it which means she may be using some silicone or finishing oil. If you like your hair to look super smooth and polished, this is a great photo to show your stylist.

Textured Long Layers with Soft Waves

#20: Textured Long Layers with a Modern Feel

Creating an unfinished effect is a really stylish design choice, and I appreciate the texturing at the ends. It’s contemporary and gives character to the overall look. It’s also not overly done, and lends to the idea that she has been out and about living her life and has slashed the look in the morning. It still looks amazing. The framing layers and the soft waves add a lot of volume without crossing the line into an overtly done look. This would be an easily maintainable style if your hair has some natural waves and movement to it. All you would need is the right cut and your hair would pretty much take care of everything else.

#21: Sleek Layers with Quiet Movement

The haircut looks classy and sophisticated and has nice volume. It’s a good choice to keep the shape of the hair while still adding layers to it. The shine suggests healthy hair and that not a lot of product was used. This style will work best with straight, meady wavy hair and even thick as it will be easy to style and maintain. Although if you have thick hair it may need some trims to keep the ends light and free from weight.

#22: Smooth Polished Layers with Gentle Face Framing

What a *joy* this cut really is! I love the clean look and how smooth and blended the layers are! There is absolutely nothing choppy or textured, and this has such a beautiful fall to it with movement built in. The gentle face framing layers really soften things up and I know this ’s a nice touch and I feel like the addition of a deeper or richer color like chocolate or warm espresso hues could really do the cut justice. It will emphasize the dimension created by the layers. I would say the maintenance is somewhat moderate on this cut…if you keep up with trims and use a good conditioner it will do good things for you. This cut will absolutely treat you well!

#23: Layered Length with Soft Bangs and Subtle Highlights

The bangs are a nice touch without overpowering the look and give a bit of personality that elevates the whole look from basic to more intriguing. The layers are good and don’t look like they were done intentionally, more like they grew that way. The lights at the ends are just enough to break the uniformity of the ends being flat. Best suited for this cut is someone looking for a change but still wanting to keep things relatively the same. Maintenance is no problem, just a trim every six to eight weeks along with a quick bang touch up if they start getting in your eyes.

#24: Long Layers with a Sleek, Effortless Frame

This one has a really nice sleek finish, that nice bouncy smooth texture you get from a really great blowout, and the layers are cut to accentuate that without adding any bulk or choppiness. It’s a pretty simple layered style, and I don’t mean that in a boring way. It’s the kind of cut that always looks good and never feels outdated. For those of you with finer hair who are worried about it looking thin or flat, root boosting volumising products blow dried in before will help a lot with this cut!

#25: Long Layers with Face-Framing Softness and Shine

The face-framing layers do what they’re supposed to do by adding a gentle touch around the cheeks and accentuating her features without making the cut look too polished or styled. With thick, straight hair, the layers guarantee her hair won’t look heavy which is one of the best reasons to layer thick hair. It moves more freely when the weight is removed. The glossiness of her hair is a good indication that she takes care of her hair between appointments- which always makes the cut look better.

#26: Soft Layers on Long Natural Curls

Cutting natural curls into layers brings out the shape and volume in the curls and makes the hairstyle look more alive. Cutting the hair to the same length makes it appear weighed down and dead. If done correctly, the layers will allow for each individual curl to do its thing and make the result look beautiful. This example shows full effortless shape, which is the result of the right amount of density in the curls (not too sparse). Curls like this deserve to be in the hands of a dry cutting curly hair specialist.

#27: Long Layers with Soft Curled Ends and Warm Color

This style is complete with the curled ends, and this must be what people mean by “bouncy layers.” The layers are collarbone length, which is just right because it gives length and still helps the back stand up. The warm multi-dimensional color really helps too, as it reflects off all the layers in a different way and adds a richness that flat, single color, colors don’t. You would need a curling iron or large barrel wand to achieve this, but even without the curls the cut would look great.

#28: Bold Face-Framing Bangs on Long Layers

I love to see the style and bravery that these bangs illustrate. They are thick and change what would be a plain long-layered haircut. The straight layers at the bottom create movement and texture. As for these bangs, they are a style that can take a great deal of effort and is not suited to all faces. Battling a cowlick at the hairline is a thing, and some may be facing that challenge every morning, but these bangs pull it all together in this photo.

#29: Long Layers with an Inward Curl and Beautiful Shine

Considering a minor trim to the ends of your hair can improve the overall look of the haircut, softening the appearance of it looking too harsh or styled. The layers start around the shoulders and help to shape the overall look of the face. You hair shine is amazing and looks like silk. This style works well for thick straight hair because it removes some of the weight, while allowing the hair to move and keeping the bulk to make long hair look luxurious. If you want something well styled without needing lots of time for maintenance, this is perfect.

#30: Long Layered Cut with Soft Defined Curls

I really love the curls and how they create a shapely outline. I also appreciate that the curls are soft and defined, but not overly uniform. The softness and gentleness helps create more of a natural look. The layers seem to have been cut to different lengths to enhance the curl pattern and add more volume throughout the mids while also maintaining length. For curl definition, a medium-sized barrel curling iron and light hold mousse would be necessary, but expect your curls to fall in a day or two. The style is also great because it’s appropriate for all ages!

Glamorous Long Layered Cut with Bold Curtain Bangs

#31: Long Layers with Bold Curtain Bangs in Rich Black

The rich black color gives the different strands of hair outstanding depth and highlights the beautiful, detailed strands that capture and reflect the light in several different ways. Curtain bangs are bold and striking, but they add a natural, gently distracting, face-framing quality to the overall elegance of the cut. The layers that go all the way down past the shoulders are so beautiful. They give the hair the necessary length to really show off all of the movement in this cut. This look does require styling, and it takes a high level of skill with a blow dryer and a round brush to achieve this, as it would look quite a bit different if you didn’t do all that. Still, because of the way the hair is cut, it will look nice even when you don’t style it, on relaxed days.

#32: Long Blended Layers with a Soft Airy Feel

The blending on this cut is so seamless it is impossible to tell where one layer ends and another begins. It gives such a light and airy feel as well as a flowing, continuous look. If you are nervous about layers being too choppy and obvious, this is the type of layering I would recommend because it is choppy, soft and very graduated. The shine is beautiful and the overall shape is so flattering without any excessive structure. It does require some styling to get this look, and a good blow dry with a round brush will get you most of the way there.

#33: Long Glamorous Layers with Soft Volume and Deep Color

This style has that vintage Hollywood glamour look with soft S-waves that give volume through the mid-lengths and makes it look effortless. The rich and deep color enhances the luxurious look of the style. The layers starting mid-lengths create great shape and movement. This style is super flattering for medium to thick hair. I’ll be honest though, those waves take work to create and they will drop in humidity without a flexible hold hairspray. It will definitely be worth the effort for a special occasion.

#34: Cascading Layers with a Healthy, Natural Flow

What really shines with this style is the health and shine of the hair. The soft flowing layers is what makes the style but the real beauty is the condition of the hair that makes the cut work. If your hair isn’t in good condition, dry, or damaged, layered cuts make this even more obvious as light hits the layers and makes it more important to keep your hair refreshed and hydrated if you have a layered cut. The volume is nice here, moderate, not too big and not too flat. A natural flow that would work with many hair types and face structures.

#35: Long Layers with Soft Face Framing and Shine

These face-framing layers are understated yet work well. They draw your attention to her features and create an illusion of movement to the hair surrounding her face, even though the rest of the hair falls straight and smooth. Unlike thick hair where the layers would have a drastic effect, in medium density hair, the layers offer just the right amount of separation so that everything blends together nicely. I think some lowlights here would be nice to add some depth so that the layers are even more visible. A few darker strands woven into the hair would add so much dimension to this cut without altering the overall hue.

#36: Soft Face-Framing Layers on Beautiful Long Hair

I appreciate this cut tremendously, especially the face-framing layers because they really accentuate her features, even if it’s subtle. The shape and structure of this cut also look great, and I bet it’s super easy to upkeep. With a round brush and blow dryer, she can achieve the polished look that’s in the photos, where the ends are curling under to give it that smooth finish. This style would be appropriate for a lot of different occasions, whether it’s the office, the weekend, or out for dinner. It looks really good and put together without being too much maintenance, which is what a lot of my clients tend to ask for when they first sit in my chair.

Modern Layered Cut with Soft Face-Framing Bangs

#37 Modern Layers with Soft Bangs and Lots of Movement

I love this hairstyle! The bangs are soft and light, and frame the face beautifully. The layers extend movement all the way to mid-back, and makes the hair bouncier, and also gives hair more movement. The only thing to keep in mind is that the bangs will need attention between cuts. They grow out faster than you’d think, and once they start hitting your eyes, the whole look changes, so plan for that!

Effortlessly Layered Long Waves with Sun-Kissed Highlights

#38 Long Beachy Layers with Warm Sun-Kissed Color

I love this look because it has an I-just-got-back-from-somewhere-warm vibe and I totally love it. The long layers are nice and flowing. The waves are effortless. Maybe she braided her hair and this is the result? I bet there was a curling iron involved. The sun-kissed highlights are perfectly placed to create dimension and to really catch the light. The overall look is effortless. If you want to look like you put in a ton of effort without putting in a ton of effort then this is the look for you, especially if you have that wave-friendly hair texture. The best sort of hair to hold those waves is actually medium to thick hair.

Beautifully Layered Long Hair with Sunlit Highlights

#39 Long Sunlit Layers with a Playful Flip at the Ends

I like the little flick at the ends; not every layered cut has that detail, making it playful. I also like that the sunlit highlights are natural and not too light. When the hair moves, the layers add to the dimension. For those wanting to keep it classy, the highlights are a good way to add a bit of personality. To keep the look of the flipped ends intentional, regular trims will be necessary; hair shouldn’t look like it decided to go rogue. About every ten weeks should do the trick.

Voluminous Layered Cut with Rich Auburn Tones

#40 Layered Auburn Waves with Rich Warmth

Auburn is a beautiful color that deserves more recognition. It is a warm color that flatters many different skin tones. When combined with long layers like this, the movement of the hair creates a radiant effect. The layers bring life and dimension to hair with fine to medium density. The color will seem even more dimensional and will catch light at different angles making it appear even more bouncy and lively when in the sun. The great thing about auburn hair is that it does require color-safe hair products because warm tones fade quickly. A good color-safe shampoo will work wonders, especially if you spend a lot of time in the sun.

Chic Layered Cut with Soft Curls and Warm Highlights

#41 Layered Curls with Warm Golden Highlights

The curls are lively and bouncy. The warm golden highlights create a rich multi-tonal look with depth. What makes this look good are the layers that are cut to support the curls instead of fighting against it. This allows everything to settle into place and creates volume where needed. This is a stunning look for people with medium to thick hair, and who likes to style their hair with a curling iron. I will be honest and say that maintaining the curls on a daily basis is a commitment, but for special events, this is the kind of hair that will get you compliments the entire evening.

Gorgeous Layered Waves with Warm Balayage

#42 Warm Balayage on Long Layered Waves

The balayage is doing what it should, creating a natural and lived-in sun-kissed warmth, and the long layers allow the waves to move and flow in a way that a one-length would not. This is a pretty nice combination that works on a lot of different people. The texture is an effortless wave that can be made with a big barrel curler or even just from braiding the hair when it is damp and then sleeping on it. The maintenance on this cut is moderate, regular trims to keep the shape, and the balayage grows out nice, so you’re not in the salon every six weeks.

Effortlessly Layered Long Waves with Rich Undertones

#43 Long Layered Waves with Rich Depth

The color and layers in this style are really well done. It makes it hard to separate them. The rich undertones provide him so much depth and each wave reflects light in varying ways. This creates a dynamic appearance, even when the cut is simple. If you have naturally wavy hair that is medium to thick, you’re likely very close to this hairstyle. You would only need to achieve the right layering and perhaps a balayage to add some dimension. I would love to see this for fall or winter, those warm deep tones are very seasonal.

Radiant Layered Long Hair with Subtle Highlights

#44 Long Radiant Layers with Soft Highlighted Dimension

The highlights are soft and woven in so that they are not stripy or obvious. They add gentle brightness that catches the eye as your hair moves. The layers cascade around your shoulders and create a wonderful frame. It’s a lovely fullness and overall density: full enough to look healthy and substantial, and not so thick that the layers get lost. This is the kind of hair that is lovely and doesn’t need much done to it. Just regular trims and whatever you normally do to keep your ends in good shape.

Beautifully Layered Long Hair with Soft Movement

#45 Sleek Layers with Natural Texture and Subtle Highlights

A natural wave goes through each layer which is what I think adds a sense of modernity to this cut. I love this style because it leans into the hair’s natural tendencies instead of trying to coerce it into something else. The soft highlights elevate the overall texture of the hair and take center stage. If your hair is naturally wavy and has a medium to thick density, then this is one of those cuts that you wash and go with. You’ll likely need a little product.

Elegant Cascading Layers with Soft Curls

#46 Dark Chocolate Layers with Cascading Curls

What a stunning example! The deep chocolate hue is gorgeous, and the flowing layers allow the curls to fall beautifully, even romantically. The volume is fantastic and the texture looks like it happens effortlessly, suggesting the layers were very skilfully placed to match her density. The addition of curls makes the style very playful, while with a single length finish in could become more severe. The colour also really showcases the depth in each and every curl. If you have thick hair that has been kept to a single length style, you really need something like this!

Richly Textured Long Layers with Sun-Kissed Highlights

#47 Sun-Kissed Layers with Rich Texture

These layers have highlights blended in that add a lot of visual depth. Whenever the hair moves, new colors appear. These highlights prevent the style from feeling flat, or one-toned. With these layers, the hair’s natural waves look defined, especially if they are from medium to thick hair. This gives the hair an effortless volume. This style gives the impression that the hair is really just good. This is an example of highlights and layers working together. The layers provide structure to the highlights, while the highlights improve the layers’ structure.

Softly Layered Long Hair with Face-Framing Bangs

#48 Soft Layers and Face-Framing Bangs with Natural Movement

I love this hairstyle because the bangs have the perfect length! Also, I love how the bangs blend in with the rest of the layers, so they do not look like bangs. They look like they do a great job framing the face. The waves and layers give the hairstyle a really soft and an effortless look. Once the hair grows out a bit, I think it will be a super wash and go style. The bangs and layers will most likely soften a lot, so they will probably need little to no styling. I think this will be a really easy hairstyle to do with just a little bit of product and quick styling!

Warm Chestnut Layered Cut with Subtle Highlights

#49 Warm Chestnut Layers with Highlighted Dimension

Chestnut is an effortless hue to wear. Its warm yet gentle, brown without being boring, and even its subtle highlights add enough dimension to look intentional. Here, the soft face-framing layers allow the color to do its work: and that is to catch the light and create movement in a way a flat color simply cannot. This look will work on straight hair, wavy hair, and even curly hair, with the right layered adjustments, so it is pretty versatile. The style is low-maintenance. The only thing to note when styling is to use a protective and toning product to keep the warm color looking its best.

Softly Layered Long Hair with Natural Waves

#50 Long Soft Layers with a Natural Balayage

This cut looks easy and uncomplicated. The layers are nice and the balayage provides depth without added extremes. I think this suits her hair type and density really well. For her medium-fine texture, this means the layers will add movement as opposed to looking too sparse. This will be compounded by the natural wave texture which will give extra body. This hair type will look good straight after the cut but then will look good again after everything has grown out and settled in about six weeks. This is a good style choice for someone who is low-maintenance.

Chic Layered Long Hair with Soft Waves

#51 Long Layered Waves with Dimensional Color

This hair cut has many wonderful features. The highlights create movement while the subtle highlights give depth and the waves create a polished appearance that isn’t stiff. The rich color combined with the various lengths of layers allows you to see a variety of different shades and contrasts even when the hair is hanging freely. To achieve a full effect of this style hair that is medium to thick is ideal as you will need enough density for the waves and layers. Because the layers will show damage and splitting more than blunt ends regular trims will be necessary to keep the ends healthy.
