I know what many people think when they hear the word ‘latte.’they think it’s as easy as going to get a coffee. The truth is that ‘latte brunette’ is a more sophisticated color that requires a lot more knowledge from the colorist in relation to warmth and depth and the interplay of the two, as well as the guidance of the individual needs from the client. A few years back, I had a client show me a picture of what she called ‘latte hair,’ and while we were looking at it, we noticed at least four different colors. To me, colors are just the beginning, while shades are what really brings hair to life. Phrasing it this way also allows us to converse among the different nuances.
Latte brunette colors can be very appealing to most (if not all) skin tones and natural bases. I’m sure some latte shades out there will light up your face and give it a soft glow! The latte color on top of this cut is very self explanatory and the shape is super clean. The blunt hemline gives it a purpose. If you have medium to thick hair, this cut can be so much easier for you, since it removes the heaviness at the ends without a lot of thinning. Getting this smooth at home will be more work. In this case, a good heat protectant spray and a paddle brush blowout will be key.

The haircut with layered feathered bangs is fantastic! I get how people might think it’s just a basic cut with a mix and blend but I can guarantee you this takes some time to get right. The feathered bangs completely change the vibe of the cut and give it a more modern look by softening the eye and forehead area. The highlights are also an added bonus and breaks up the potential flatness of the look. The length above the shoulders will always look good because it will be super easy to style.
#3: Softly Layered Latte Brunette with Natural Waves
This particular haircut and style is perfect for someone looking to change up their routine without going all out. The warm brunette tones will look amazing in photos, and the layers provide just the right amount of shape so you can let your natural texture do most of the work. I do want to mention that if you pick this color, you should try to budget for a gloss treatment every couple weeks because these mid-tone brunette colors lose their warmth very quickly.

I loved the highlights. They balanced the whole look and added a bit of warmth instead of feeling too salon fresh. Hair of that length allows the waves to move and develop. When you see that much shiny healthy hair, you want to reach out and touch it. If your hair dries out a hydrating hair mask will help maintain that shine between salon visits.

The long wave hairstyle is simple enough on the surface, but the root-to-tip color transition is what makes it stand out. If you don’t love spending time in the salon every six weeks, this look ages well and is a great option to consider. It won’t look neglected as it grows out.

The sweetness in this bob is so apparent. The color range is so perfect, especially with how well-placed the highlights are. They really accentuate the movement of the layers and are not done in a stripy way at all. This can totally be worn tussled and casual and then smoothed out for something more dressy on the weekend, it really does read totally different both ways. Hair that is fine looks the best in a shape like this, especially since the shorter lengths are able to hold more body.

The difference in this style compared to other long wave looks is the color. The different tones really make the waves stand out, and each bend shows a different color. It requires a lot of commitment to use a curling wand to keep the waves intentional, and if you prefer to wash and let your hair air-dry then this probably isn’t for you. But if you enjoy styling your hair, then this is stunning.

I can see some lighter pieces in front that look as if they shining and reflecting sunlight on your hair as if you’re sitting by a window. The restraint in the layering is fantastic, and it’s just enough around the face to keep it from feeling heavy, while the rest of the length stays full and substantial. It’s a good balance! I would love to do this kind of color on someone with warm or neutral skin tones as the golden undertones would look great against it.

When it comes to the styling potential of long hair, this cut captures it beautifully! The hair movement from the layers is phenomenal! Rather than seeing distinct layers, there is hair that flows nicely and settles just right. The subtle highlights give a lovely gentle contrast through the ends. Honestly, this type of look tends to be better in real life than in photos. The movement really reveals the dimension and that brings more joy than a color that shows everything.
#10: Soft Textured Latte Brunette with Loose Waves
This example shows a very nice outfit. “Your hair looks great,” is the type of compliment that doesn’t actually say anything nice about the hair, which is always the best compliment in my book. Loose waves that aren’t too screaming and don’t say “I curled my hair this morning.” The color is effortless too, with nice roots and a natural blend to lighter mids. If you want to do these waves at home, use a large barrel curling wand and some light texturizing spray.
#11: Softly Layered Latte Brunette with Luminous Waves
The length at the shoulder is really helping this cut, as it lets the layers pivot and flip freely without feeling heavy. For finer hair, this is the length that gives most volume for the least effort, plus the waves at this length look great. The highlights are very subtle, but they are reflecting light really nicely and giving the hair a healthy and shiny glow. Sometimes a hair color doesn’t have to be really dramatic to create a big change to the overall look of your hair, and this is a perfect example of that.
#12: Softly Layered Latte Brunette with Face-Framing Highlights
There is a chance that face-framing highlights can be too bold or chunky. Thin, warm highlights can draw the viewer’s attention to the face. Hair that is just below the shoulder is the most manageable and versatile length. It’s long enough to be pulled up into a ponytail and short enough to dry quickly and hold a style. The layers add more texture and interest to the hair.
#13: Effortlessly Chic Latte Brunette with Soft Curls
The curls of the outfit really bring it all to life; the latte color is rich enough to hold its own against all that movement without looking washed out. In this case, the outfit is great, but be honest with yourself; are you going to actually use a curling iron a lot? If the answer is yes, then this is such a nice way to wear this color. The medium length also stops the curls from going dead from the weight, something that often happens with longer hair and is more common than people think.
#14: Luxurious Latte Brunette with Soft Face-Framing Layers
This hair is best described as healthy and long. The subtle face-framing layers won’t change the shape of the hair too much, but will help the hair fall in a more flattering way. For this collection, the color is a perfect latte, not too warm or cool and therefore more versatile. If you wanted to add a little more interest down the line, a balayage through the lower half would overlay beautifully with this base and wouldn’t require a big color commitment.
