Knotless braids is a style I cannot get enough of. The moment one of my clients tells me “let’s do it!” I get so excited! I’ve been a fan of this style since way before it became a trend on Pinterest. To me, explaining what it meant to do “knotless” braids was a no-brainer. I mean the difference is night and day! Traditional braids are so heavy and uncomfortable on the scalp, and while braiding the knotless way should’ve been enough to get everyone to switch over years ago, I’ve loved the way this style has been developing. The creativity in how people are choosing to part their braids, the color combinations, and the mixed textures at the ends of braids have been so inspiring.
Last month, I had a client who for three years had only ever rotated between two styles because she had what I can only describe as some kind of commitment issue. I was finally able to get her to try knotless braids with some color added. When she saw the finished result in the mirror she was in tears! Many clients have cried while I’ve been braiding, but knotless braids always seem to have a special touch that help people transform into their greatest version. I’m so excited to share these 26 looks of knotless braids. I know at least some of them will be to your taste!

#1: Long Knotless Braids with Those Bouncy Curled Ends Everyone Keeps Asking Me About
I get that this look is a bit all over the place especially with the loose curls at the ends. It’s balanced with a decent look while still being casual which a lot of people at this length struggle with. Best part is, the curls give the look a lot of character, without going overboard and costume vibing it. If that’s the route, I’d recommend getting a decent mousse. Those ends are guaranteed to frizz after the second week so be prepared.

#2: Honey Blonde Highlighted Knotless Braids That Are Worth Every Hour in the Chair
I can’t take credit for this beautiful honey blonde and dark base color blend, however it does appear that the person who did these has some knowledge about color placement because the highlights do not look like they were just slapped on. They look like they flow with the braid pattern. The length is also dramatic in the best way and I would recommend these to anyone who wants their hair to do all the talking without them having to say a single word, which honestly is the whole point.

#3: Knotless Braids with Curly Ends That Actually Look Effortless
I’ll be honest, a lot of curly-ended knotless braids tend to look “done” in a bad way. Most people do have that curly-ended knotless look that makes them look plastic, because you can tell they sat there for hours doing each curl so perfect, and that is not the case here. The knotless braids curly ends practice deters look amazing, and I know it may be ironic, but they really do take more skill than the fake look. Don’t think about it so much, just get the style done.

#4: Clean Knotless Braids with That Satisfying Center Part
It’s appealing to see how organized the sectioning is on the knotless braids, and this one is certainly delivering. The execution of the braids is great, and sometimes that is all you need. For those who have been requesting for “something simple and cute”, I would suggest this hairstyle because it embodies that completely. The length is perfect; it’s just long enough to feel fancy, but not so long that you have to sit on it every time you get in the car.

#5: Sleek Knotless Braids with Baby Hairs That Were Laid by an Artist
Knowing how to do neat edges shows quality on a hairstyle. The little hairs around the face are doing about 45% of the work on the whole style, and that’s meant as a compliment. The braids are neat, spaced out correctly, and everything is in order. If you are going to do this much edge work at home, you’re going to need some good edge control and a really small styling brush. You’re going to want to practice this on a day when you don’t have anything going on.

#6: Chevron-Parted Knotless Braids That Prove Shorter Can Be Better
I often try to persuade others to avoid the default choice of waist-length braids and this style is exactly why. These shoulder-length braids with chevron sections are so full of character, and no one needed three packs of braiding hair to achieve this. The part is the star of the show. The medium size is ideal because it maintains balance without being bulky. This style will leave others staring at your head trying to unravel the mystery, and you should let them.

#7: Knotless Braids with Parting That Looks Like It Took a Geometry Degree
I had to zoom in on this one to appreciate the detail in the Parting work. In my experience, if you’re getting a detailed part pattern like this, you want to find a specialist, because a messy version of this look is not cute. This is proof that the right braider makes all the difference. To keep the parts looking fresh and not covered in build up from your scalp, use a braid scalp cleanser to keep your scalp clean.

#8: Caramel-Kissed Long Knotless Braids for When You Want Drama but Not Too Much
The caramel highlights woven into these braids are subtle enough that you may not see them at first. When you do see them, you will notice how stunning these braids are. This is a perfect example of how tone-on-tone color adds dimension and warmth to your hair without saying, “I COLORED MY BRAIDS!” Growing your hair past your mid back is a huge commitment, but since these are knotless braids you’ll find them so easy to wear. I would suggest this if you often choose black braiding hair and want to do something different but aren’t ready to go for bolder options.

#9: Ombre Knotless Braids with Loose Ends That Just Work
Braids with black and blonde colors are my favorite combo for knotless braids, and it never looks bad! The way the colors are blended and the center part that’s neat and the loose curls at the bottom really give the style movement that straight-ended braids can’t compare to. I’ve only seen this style done poorly a couple of times in my entire career, which says a lot about the success. Do it!

#10: Mid-Length Knotless Braids with Curly Tips That Feel Like a Whole Mood
I don’t think my love for mid-length braids will ever fade. The way the braids hit around the shoulders looks so cute and the added curled pieces look so fun and youthful. The best braids feel good, look good, and you never have to spend 20 minutes tacking your braids up into a pony. Just grab some braid spray to keep your scalp happy because the happier your scalp is, the longer you’re going to want to keep these braids in.

#11: Grid-Parted Long Knotless Braids for the Perfectionist in You
If these photos gave you a sense of peace, then we are going to get along fabulously! The grid sections are super even and consistent, and the length is just right to add a little bit of excitement and drama to the style. This is such a “I have my life together” hairstyle, which is one of the best things that braids can do for you, even if you don’t really have your life together. The neatness of the braids is super dependent on how calm and patient the braider is, so don’t rush the appointment, and don’t let anyone rush the install.

#12: Long Knotless Braids with Soft Wavy Ends
While I agree the ends do have a little mermaid energy, it’s not that extra. I think it just adds a touch texture and makes the braids look like they just float. I like that this style doesn’t use color or some wild sectioning to be interesting. They are just really nice braids with some nice detail and shows how sometimes that’s all you need!

#13: Sunset Ombre Knotless Braids for When You’ve Decided to Be Bold
Burgundy and bright orange with a parting pattern? Yes, one hundred percent Yes. I admire people who don’t want to blend in, and this is definitely not a look for people who want to blend in. The color transition is better than I’ve seen, and skillfully done. With pre-colored hair, it’s very tricky to get the gradient and blend. If you’re going to commit to a color moment like this, you absolutely have to go all the way. Otherwise, if you’re only going to go for some bold color at the ends, that’s worse than no color at all.

#14: Geometric-Parted Knotless Braids That Belong in a Museum
Honestly, I’d frame this farewell job. The geometric parts are clean and purposeful, adding so much artistry to what would’ve otherwise been standard medium knotless braids. This is the kind of style where the braider absolutely deserves to be tagged, credited, and tipped very well. The braids are a great medium thickness that suits most people, but the parting is what really makes this stand out.

#15: Red Knotless Braids with a Center Part That Means Business
I firmly believe that red braids are an entirety of a personality. This hue is warm and inviting. It doesn’t quite reach the fire engine level of brightness, however. The center part and those flat, smooth roots are a touch of a finish. This long, straight-down style is quite oval face flattering, as it gives more length to the face and creates a more angular appearance. I have seen dozens of clients completely change their entire wardrobe vibe after switching to red, so don’t sleep on this color and what it can do for your self-assurance.

#16: Layered Mid-Length Knotless Braids That Frame Everything Perfectly
The braids have been done in a way where they have avoided a more boring look that can happen from mid-braids of a single length. I see both dimension and shape, and that tells me that the person who did the hair styled it with movement in mind and not just a static positioning of the braids. This hairdo is so adaptable, you can have it for work on a Monday, and for brunch on a Saturday, with not a single change made to the style. I really appreciate these kinds of styles.

#17: High Ponytail Knotless Braids with a Side Part That Slaps
I’m certain that pulling knotless braids into a high pony gives an instant 10 points in sophistication. The asymmetry is nice and well balanced due to the side part. The fullness of the ponytail leaves us thinking the density was intentional, and that is a good thing. Some hairstyles give the impression that you woke up extremely early and put in a lot of work. In reality, that’s not the case, it just means that more time was spent in the installation. If that’s not the intended goal, then I don’t know what is.

#18: Side-Parted Long Knotless Braids with Serious Length
A hairstyle that I’d recommend is long knotless braids with a deep side part. This hairstyle is super flattering on a lot of people, and gives off a vibe of effortless vintage-glam. With sleek, long braids and the part giving just the right amount of detail to be interesting, this look is a winner. And trust me, it is rare for me to say that, considering all my different opinions. This style suits everyone.

#19: Braided Bun Updo That’s Fancier Than It Has Any Right to Be
With this bun updo, people might think you have somewhere important to be when you actually might just be getting coffee. The artistic look comes from the intricate wrapping and careful placement of the braids to resemble a sculpture. This is the hairstyle to go for if you have an occasion, date, work presentation or want to look like a corporate woman for whatever other reason. Just be sure to let your braider know you want ‘updo versatility’ before your appointment, as the sections need to be set a certain way for that structural effect.

#20: Mid-Length Knotless Braids with Defined Spiral Curls at the Ends
These spiral curls look so good, they may have been set one by one, and this dedication really shows! This youthful, fun hairstyle seems to keep it’s character over time better than the other looser curl patterns I’ve seen. The practical and cute mid-length is all bouncy curls enough to feel good about your hair every day you wear it. A few sprays of curl refresher on the ends every couple of days will stop them from going flat.

#21: Knotless Braids Gathered Into the Cleanest Bun You’ve Ever Seen
This bun is giving, “I woke up like this but I also definitely did not” and that duality makes it so good. The parting lines along the scalp are super crisp, the braids are all gathered without lumps or bumps and it looks intentional from every angle. I will say, just a gentle reminder, if you wear bun styles a lot, then give your edges a break in between and keep them moisturized. The repeated tension in the same spots will catch up with you. But as a look, this is damn near perfect.

#22: Long Knotless Braids with Face-Framing Pieces That Know What They’re Doing
These braids are designed to face-framing parts that really soften and flatter the look beyond a typical set of long knotless braids. It’s clear the stylist thought about how the braids would suit this person’s face versus just following a formula. When getting long braids, don’t forget to request face-framing pieces!

#23: Textured Knotless Braids with Warm Caramel Tones Running Through
With warm caramel highlights, the braids and curls texture ends are cozy for a style. It gives the illusion that you have beautifully defined curls that are natural. Great braiding and curling gives off that impression. If you’re happy about this type of style on Instagram, this is a great choice for you as it reflects the look in natural lighting.

#24: Extra Long Knotless Braids for the Person Who Doesn’t Do Anything Halfway
These long braids can be brought as reference photos for your appointment. These braids are super long, and the texture helps avoid them looking like a curtain of rope. To be honest, not everyone can pull off this length as the weight can become a lot to deal with towards the end of your wear time. However, if you have the density and tolerance, there’s nothing like the drama of a braid going past your waist. Unless you want to spend your mornings detangling, sleeping with a satin bonnet sized for long braids is a must.

#25: Another Gorgeous Bun Situation Because Apparently I Can’t Get Enough
I have no regrets for adding this third bun style because every bun is different in their own special way. This one is more structured and sleek when compared to the other styles. The braid pattern goes all the way up and gives an almost architectural vibe. The neatness factor is off the charts. This style opportunity is great for someone who wants their hair pulled all the way back out of the way, and doesn’t want to compromise style for practicality. This style is great.

#26: Zigzag-Parted Ombre Knotless Braids That Prove Details Matter
With an added zig-zag parting style, these braids are a step above the rest. Coupled with an ombre color fade from dark to light, these braids keep your look fresh from root to tip! I tell my clients all the time that zig-zag parting is a good way to elevate basic knotless braids, and with this color, it takes it to the next level. This style is actually great for everyday wear, which is a lot more difficult to achieve than it seems.
