The Italian bob tends to be one of the most popular haircuts among women. It is especially interesting to watch how different customers engage with the bob style compared to long-time clients – people like my grandmothers who have spent the last 60 years of their lives growing and living with their hair. There is clearly a historical sentiment to their hair that is absent in a lot of younger clientele. Because of this, younger clients tend to struggle with executing an Italian bob.
One of my most memorable clients from last year fits this description perfectly. She had been growing her hair and getting long layers as far back as her late thirties. So when she came to the salon with her phone Italian bob photo, I knew she’d been waiting for the right moment – the right cut to change her hair. Seeing how she run her hands through her hair was probably the highlight of my week. It was as if she was reunited with a long lost friend. That’s the beauty of this haircut on women over 60. It does not seek to reinvent the past or hold on to things from before.
I could show even more, but for now I’ll leave you with some of my favorites, I could feel that with her. I knew without her looking in the mirror that she had already felt the change.

#1: A Textured Bob That Doesn’t Try Too Hard
This hairstyle is just above the shoulders and has soft layers to make it more fun and keep it from being a time sink in the mornings. This is a good recommendation if you are not making a full change to your style, but want some more movement to your hair while you are moving. The texture will do the work needed for you if your hair is in the fine to medium range where it can get a bit flat. You might want to work some texturizing spray through it on second day hair, but the shape is good enough that it will be fine.

#2 Chin-Length Layers with a Quiet Highlight
I appreciate how the highlights are subtle and not over the top. They make your face look like it’s glowing with natural light, rather than looking like it was done by a professional. The chin length is also doing something good here, it keeps all the attention on the eyes and cheekbones without overshadowing them. If your hair is fine, this kind of layering will give you actual dimension instead of looking constructed. Just keep in mind it will require some upkeep. The lighter sections will need a gloss every few weeks to keep them from drifting toward a color you didn’t want.

#3 Cool Silver with a Micro-Fringe and Hidden Structure
On the outside, this haircut looks simple, but there is much more complexity going on on the inside. At the nape, there’s internal graduation, which helps the cut roll under without showing layered stacking. The micro fringe is my favorite detail. It’s much more effective at opening up the face than a longer fringe would be, plus it sits just above the eyebrows. You have to really stay on top of the toning to keep it from going yellow, but this silver is gorgeous and really illuminates the complexion. It’s accurate to say that the fringe probably does need a quick pass with a flat iron every morning to look good, but that’s definitely worth it.

#4 Warm Auburn with a Beveled Edge
What I notices first the hair color. The warm auburn is a wonderful contrast to her skin tone, and it has lovely dimension that looks mixed from chestnut to copper depending on the lighting. The cut also has a soft gentle beveled perimeter with the ends that just slightly turn in for a softer touch to a polished look, and not stiff. There is a hidden stacked nape to create some lift at the crown, which is a nice touch for hair that’s starting to thin out at the temples. This costs three things: round brush blow-dry for the finish, and gloss treatments to maintain that auburn from fading out.

#5 Silver Rounded Bob with a Deep Side Part
This bob is very well behaved, and that is a compliment! The deep side part brings in volume at the crown, and the interior graduation allows the ends to fold under effortlessly. This looks like the type of cut that means you just have great hair instead of great cut, which is amazing to praise the shape. The natural silver with that soft root shadow is left on purpose to add depth without needing a color appointment for weeks. The rounded perimeter loses shape if you just let it air dry, so a quick blow dry is expected. Daily styling is a must.

#6 Softly Stacked Silver Bob with a Long Side Sweep
The stacking is so subtle that you might miss that that’s what it’s doing. It defines the jawline and gives the crown enough lift to keep the entire silhouette balanced. I really love the long side sweep because it opens the face and prevents the cut from seeming overly spaced. This is beautiful on fine to medium hair with a slight wave because the texture provides some of the movement that you would otherwise have to create. A hot air brush is the easiest tool for daily maintenance on this one.

#7 Root-Lift Bob with Feathered Curtain Fringe
What keeps bringing me back is the curtain fringe. It is just feathered enough to blend into the sides rather than sit as a separate piece so she left the whole cut this flowing, continuous feel. The inner grad at the nape builds roundness without heavy stacking and the natural silver flecks get dimension that you can’t with foils, even if you tried. On humid days this shape can lose some of its lift so having a lightweight volumizing mousse is helpful but overall maintenance is quite reasonable for what you get.

#8 Dark Brunette Rounded Bob with Soft Interior Work
I find the design’s ease and dark brown color appealing. Dark brown usually evokes a weighty, or more solid feel. I do, however, prefer and appreciate the lighter, more natural gray that blends around the temples, as it feels more uncovered. The inner graduation gives a visible crown lift, while the outer perimeter is neat and slightly beveled to the inner side. Many may overlook the softening around the face caused by micro-layering, but it does make a difference. Maintaining this will require a defined shape to be cut and a bit of a blowout to keep it from looking shapeless. Overall, I would say it probably isn’t too high maintenance.

#9 Warm Chestnut Bob with a Soft Curtain Fringe
I love how curtain fringe opens up the eye area, and makes the entire face look so much lighter with that kind of part. The internal stacking at the crown is designed so that it works with a natural crown whorl to give a lift that you would typically have to create with styling. That’s exactly the sort of happy accident that I love to see in a client’s hair. Short internal layers, paired with some razor-point texturizing, keep the ends looking airy instead of blunt, and some subtle babylights add warmth without the full color service commitment. It is a low-heat styling kind of scenario, as you won’t need to bring out the heavy artillery.

#10 Curly Copper at Chin Length
I am sooooo excited about this!! Once more, those copper ringlets offer an impressionistic style that no amount of straightening can achieve. The curls offer instantaneous elevation, and also provide a beautiful, soft framing around the cheeks which just works. With bobs that are curly, the secret is to leave the curl pattern intact. The right inner graduation should prevent excessive triangularity whilst permitting the curls to cascade. From what I can tell, if you’ve got the right texture, you’ve got the right products, know about diffusing and the drill. The outline will be point cut to avoid bluntness, and the scissor over comb technique will control the cowlicks without compromising the opposition to the hair’s growth pattern.

#11 Warm Caramel Rounded Bob
I do like how the warm caramel tone blends with the silver strands at the temples. Instead of fighting each other, they create an easy, natural brightness. The crown lift is from some interior graduation and softly pointed ends, and the long side sweep keeps the whole thing from looking too symmetrical. This is one of those cuts that looks just as good in person as it does in photos, and that’s not always the case. It will need some daily root lift styling to keep the volume up at the crown.

#12 Feathered Silver Bob with Curtain Fringe
Here, the right-side cowlick at the crown is actually aiding in the lift rather than opposing the style, which is the type of thing I love working with rather than against. The curtain fringe is wispy and needs very precise trimming to stay in that sweet spot between intentional and overgrown. However, when it’s right, it softens everything. Cut ends from the point all through provide an airiness that blunt cut lacks, and the natural silver banding with a rooted shadow gives the grow out a more graceful look than abrupt. You will need to do a round brush blow out to get that rounded finish.

#13 Polished Stacked Bob in Dark Chestnut
This has to be one of the greatest haircuts I have ever seen. With internal graduation, warm dark chestnut reads rich and creates fullness. It isn’t flat. For anyone struggling with thinning at the crown, this shape is the perfect camouflage. The stacking gives the illusion of excess density from all angles. The side part compliments a subtle crown cowlick rather than fighting it. It will take about 10 minutes to style this with a round brush, but the dark color will show regrowth more than lighter colors.

#14 Copper Bob with Rounded Crown Layers
The crown layers create a rounded lift that feels effortless, and the micro-temple layers conceal those age hollows. That’s good layering. The warm copper glaze with root shadow gives almost a candlelit look to the whole thing. Razor ends keep it fresh and not matronly. This style is a daily blow dry and color maintenance commitment, but it is super stunning when it’s kept up.

#15 A Bob That Plays Well with Glasses
Among my colleagues, I focus more on women who wear glasses. With the bob style, there is an annoying repetition where the sides push the hair forward. The forward bevel is designed to sit comfortably under the frame without being pushed out by the sides. Internal graduation adds lightness at the top, and the rounded face framing back completes the look without competing with the glasses. If glasses are on the heavier side, it’s better to have a little more length behind the ears so it’s not too visually compressed.

#16 Layered Rounded Bob with a Face-Framing Sweep
This style is versatile enough to not be a true chin length bob, and looks good on the jaw and neck length. The face framing end contouring touch is softens and looks so effortless. The internal stacking and side graduation boosts the crown and adds movement. The muted soft light blend with the natural gray at your temples instead of covering them gives so much more character. The overall effort to result is fantastic, and besides a quick round brush and lowlight refresh, not much is needed.

#17 Silver Rounded Bob with a Long Side Sweep
Gray in this shape looks so natural! Silver hair can look a little flat with blunt cuts, but the internal layering and off-center part give just the right amount of dimension for the color to really pop. The rounded bevel at the edge offers polish without rigidity, and the long side-sweep elevates the crown and softly obscures the brow. This cut definitely requires a precise perimeter because any unevenness at this length is extremely obvious. Ask for a blunt outer line, point cut texture a little, and shallow graduation at the nape.

#18 Chestnut Bob with Natural Crown Lift
An uncomplicated bob that is well-executed. The soft internal layers paired with a slightly stacked nape offer just enough elevation at the crown so it doesn’t appear flat. The chestnut color combines slight greys plus lowlights, creating a lived-in appearance versus a fresh color. For clients seeking a little structure without the need to style everyday, this is a great choice. The only requirement is some light styling product, a blow dry in the direction of the cowlick at the crown plus a tuck to hold those little wisps around the temples in place.

#19 Ash-Silver A-Line with Beveled Ends
An A-line bob is great as it will avoid the boxy look a straight-across bob can have, and it will lift the jawline and sit right at the jawline. The deep side part with some internal graduation will do the most work, and then the cool root-melt into silver-blonde with some lowlights will allow the hair to look fuller, and will will create depth to your fine hair. I love that you have minimal styling as long as you blow it smooth! Keep in mind that the precise lines will show regrowth more than a textured cut, so if you don’t want to be on a strict salon schedule, this is something to consider.

#20 Bronde Wavy Bob with Face-Framing Movement
The wave in this hair is what ties the whole haircut together. The graduate crown layers and the razor-textured ends hit the wave bonus instead of taking it away and smoothing it out, and the result is an airy undone look that is incredibly flattering. The left sweeping face framing fringe softens the profile and the babylights with root shadow brighten up the gray without covering it. For everyday styling, I’d suggest using a 1-inch curling wand or a diffuser and the color placement should be precise, but the overall vibe can be relaxed enough that it looks like you didn’t put in a ton of effort.

#21 Classic Rounded Bob with a Wispy Micro-Fringe
Unlike full bangs, micro-fringe is less committal and offers a way to open up the eye area while avoiding heavy curtains on the forehead. The layers on the interior, gentle stacking at the nape, and natural silvers at the temples create a lovely volumized effect, and that kind of dimension is something that you would pay a lot for. The ends are lightly point cut to soften the look and keep the bottom more open. Although the silhouette is definitely worth that little bit of upkeep, this style is not a grab-and-go. You will need regular precise cutting to keep the shape, and for that, a short daily round-brush blow dry is non-negotiable.

#22 Silver Rounded Bob with Root Shadow
I appreciate the natural shadow at the roots. It grounds the silver and adds dimension, which a solid platinum wouldn’t achieve. This shape is really flattering because the short stacked graduation at the nape plus the internal point cut layers create that soft inward curve and a subtle crown lift. The silver that’s concentrated at the part really makes it look good with the texture and without any color work. The front edge will take a bit of smoothing to maintain the curve because it will box off when it grows out. This cut will require a lot of maintenance to keep it from looking messy, and it will turn out really boxy when it grows out.

#23 Silver Stacked Bob with Side-Swept Fringe
Long side-swept bangs create an illusion of length while pulling attention to the cheekbone, which is a great focal point to have. The interior stacking at the nape and blunt perimeter provide some lift as well as that sleek, inward tuck. A subtle root melt is a great way to keep regrowth lower contrast, meaning you can push your appointments further than you would with a harsh line of demarcation. Daily round brushing or smoothing will be required to maintain the tuck and it will not sit as nicely on very thick or curly textures.

#24 Rooted Chestnut Bob with Deliberate Silver Accents
I will explain the silver at the temple. It is not hidden or blended, but rather is used as a design line. The chestnut lowlights are meant to frame this, not cover it. This is a common conversation I have with clients, the notion that your gray can be a feature instead of an issue. The structural work of the internal grad and stacked nape, lift and crown and frame the jaw, is where that is done. A quick daily blow dry will maintain the rounded silhouette; the precise stacking will require a good cut every 6-7 weeks.

#25 Ash-Silver Precision Bob with a Long Side Sweep
Wow, this is really clean! The concave perimeter lifts the jawline and the long side sweep balances everything while avoiding fussiness. The internal graduation creates body without the visible layering, and gives that sleek look, where you can’t quite put your finger on what makes the cut so good. Once it’s blown out smooth, the daily maintenance is minimal. The trade off is that precise lines like this do show regrowth and you have to have a steady hand with the blow dry to maintain that inward curve. But if you like a polished look, this is a great option.

#26 Textured Bronde Wavy Bob
I am a stylist (and mom) based in New York. This chin-length bob with soft bronde hair color and slight left side tapered bangs is ideal for customers in their 60’s with oval or heart shape faces. Graduated layering in the crown and razor cut ends create airy volume for the fine to medium wavy hair. Advantages are that the color, made with babylights and root shadow, brightens grey hair and the crown seems fuller. Disadvantages are that the hair requires daily shaping (with a diffuser or 1-inch curling wand) and the color blending must be done perfectly. Also, there is a subtle silver melt at the temples and the left side is a bit longer which softens the features.

#27 Curly Chestnut Bob with Natural Coils
Sure, 3b/3c curly is slightly more complicated but a bob will work for sure! With all your various ringlets, the warm chestnut color will shine. The dry curl-by-curl method is key here, as it will remove structure and bulk but maintain your pattern. The natural crown whirl will give you that rounded usable lift that would be flatter on straight hair. With this length and texture, you will enjoy all the soft jaw framing and bounce that comes with it, and you’ll have to embrace the shrinkage as that’s just how curly hair goes! A demi-gloss color refresh will help blend growing out temple silver.

#28 Chocolate Bob with Silver Face-Framing Strands
The lowlight root smudge creates a seamless blend as it grows, and the silver face-framing strands against chocolate create an intentional, modern contrast. Razor point texturing creates an airy, wavy perimeter, and there is some root flick that draws the eye up and would be lost if you smoothed it. Daily wave shaping and routine glazing to keep the silver blended is how you achieve that effortless high maintenance look.

#29 Layered Grey Bob with Gentle Waves
This is the sort of haircut I would recommend for someone who is done fighting their gray hair and is ready to embrace it. These soft waves give enough movement and texture for this look. Also, chin-grazing lengths hit the face in a flattering way that makes you look more awake and bright. For fine to medium hair, the layers here create an illusion of more hair without being too extreme. All you need is a light mousse or a texturizing spray to maintain those waves, plus the upkeep is super easy.

#30 Textured Silver Bob with Relaxed Movement
This one really stands out to me in terms of movement. Based on the description, I can see how soft waves are a great addition since they offer a relaxed, just-came-from-somewhere-interesting quality. Also, the length gives the appearance of fine hair achieving fullness. The right above the shoulders range is the sweet spot because it still offers versatility without the hassle of long hair. The cut doesn’t ask much from you, however, the right products will be necessary to keep that wave, so a good wave-boosting spray will do wonders.

#31 Bouncy Curly Bob with Soft Layering
The curls on this style are definitely doing the talking, so the cut has also made a great decision here. Subtle layers are needed to add dimension without breaking up the curl pattern, which is the line you have to walk with textured hair. The mid-length keeps things youthful and the warm color adds a richness that plays beautifully with the bounce of the curls. If this is close to your natural texture you’re already halfway there, Daily styling with curls always involves some intentionality, but the result here speaks for itself. A curl refresher spray will help on days between washes.

#32 Curly Bob with Gentle Face-Framing Layers
I love how the face-framing layers soften the look and add some femininity without thinning the shape overall. With fine to medium hair, and this kind of soft wave, the layers provide fullness that appears to be volume without a lot of cutting. The shorter length keeps it looking fresh, and the natural grey works here too — it has a warmth that darker grey doesn’t have. The slight side part has options depending on the day. This will be a cut that you negotiate with humidity a lot, so keep a styling product handy, but overall, it’s pretty good.

#33 Textured Silver Bob with Soft Face-Framing
The subtle face-framing layers offer a not-so-dramatic soft touch around the jawline which gives the whole cut a really nice balanced feel. Slightly above shoulder length offers versatility for a loose pony or wear it down. Wavy fine-textured hair of medium density achieves that light and airy feel that hair of greater density works much harder to achieve. The sharper the trim, the more true to the shape it will be, so you might find yourself grabbing a texture spray more often than expected to keep fine hair from falling flat between washes.

#34 Silver Wavy Bob with Natural Dimension
This salon technique is incredible! The layers create a uniqueness in the style while still being able to maintain a natural appearance. The hair stays structured to achieve volume even with constant movement. The color looks brighter and incandescent as opposed to being dull and grey. Waves are beautiful around round and oval face shapes. To keep the style, a light sea salt spray will maintain definition without added weight.

#35 Soft Blunt Bob with Textured Ends
A straightforward blunt bob is also a great example of a basic haircut that takes precision, and is good example of a haircut that has little room for mistakes. In this case, the ends have been lightly textured, which saves the haircut from being too harsh, and adds just the right amount of movement to make it more dynamic on fine hair. As the ends sit just above the shoulders, they’ll tend to soften the look, which is ideal for rounder face shapes. The thing about blunt haircuts is that they require a lot of maintenance. You’ll need to get haircuts every five to six weeks, because the shape of the haircut starts to tell on you as it grows out.

#36 Textured Bob with Soft Waves and Natural Grey
The soft layers easily integrate with the hair’s natural wave, rather than imposing a different shape, which creates a more design oriented style. Chin length layers, especially when framing the face, is a classic look that is very flattering. The soft, natural gray tones have a freshness that colored hair doesn’t because the authenticity in the way it catches the light is important. I know some styling will be necessary to upkeep the waves, but this is the kind of style I think will also look nice on days when you don’t have any at all.

#37 Textured Bob with Layered Movement
Compared to straight hair bobs that would take more to style, the layers give movement and an effortless wave. The light grey color is nice and the length hits just above the shoulders. For round and square face shapes, the softness around the face is doing a lot of work. The layers will require a fair bit of upkeep, probably every six weeks. It’s going to lose a lot of character without some regular maintenance.

#38 Softly Layered Grey Bob with Natural Texture
The length just below the chin also hits a great spot, as it is long enough to feel substantial and short enough to feel modern. It is also long enough to give a more relaxed feel but at the same time uplifting. The gentle waves help soften the look and the movement provided by the subtle layers is really flattering across different face shapes. This type of layering on finer hair gives the impression of more volume without sacrificing any density which is always the balance you are trying to achieve. Using a hydrating cream on the mid lengths helps to keep the layers looking fresh, full and not wispy.

#39 Textured Silver Bob with Gentle Volume
I love how this sits just below the jawline on heart-shaped faces. It really balances the chin. The gentle layers give just the right amount of volume for fine to medium hair, and the soft waves are just enough to keep the hair from looking boring. This is a great everyday cut. You look so polished and put together, but no one will really know why. Regular styling will help keep the shape of the haircut. If you want a more undone version of the silhouette, just let it air dry on the weekend.

#40 Classic Textured Bob with Warm Dimension
The subtle balayage here adds warmth and brightness in just the right places, framing the face and getting more light at the ends. It elevates this from just a nice haircut to something that looks much more expensive. The layers on this bob also helps finer hair to appear denser, all while keeping the shoulders covered. This is the type of haircut that looks good across a variety of settings. It manages to stay appropriate without looking boring at any given time. Although the layers do require a bit of upkeep, and the balayage will need to be touched up every few months, this still won’t feel like a burden.

#41 Ashy Bob with Jawline-Grazing Waves
I primarily note the ash tones. They are a more modern and refreshing option than warmer silvers. The subtle layers add volume and balancing that with the fine texture of the hair is important. The cut is playful and reflects a polished look while also avoiding anything too formal. The waves may need some gentle styling and encouragement. Also, ash tones can tend to shift warm so a toning conditioner will be helpful to keep your hair in the right color family. This style works best on oval or heart-shaped faces.

#42 Modern Bob with Subtle Bangs
I think getting bangs is a decision some people don’t give a lot of thought to, while others get consumed with the details. With this convnbninnntion, both sides of the argument can be satisfied. These bangs frame the face, but don’t take over the entire haircut. The chin length cut underneath provides enough structure for the bangs to look intentional. This style works best on strnigt, medium density hnir so it can hold its shape all day. Choosing to get bangs is a big commitment, it means more visits to the salon for trims and styling the bangs every morning. For the right person, the effort is worth it.

#43 Textured Bob with Effortless Silver Volume
Located here, the delicate strands are sculpted to create volume, and hiding layers is a skill all on its own. The cut is just above the shoulders, with airy wispy ends creating a modern feel and the silver color has a lovely understated quality with strands that feel 100% natural. For oval face shapes, this soft layering around the face is super flattering. In theory it is low maintenance although I will be honest – fine silver hair does tend to fall a bit flat by midday so a light root lift spray at the crown is recommended.

#44 Silver Bob with Subtle Layers
This style has face framing layers that soften the look without being too noticeable. The shoulder grazing length gives more versatility than a chin length bob. The fine hair and medium density create that light and airy quality and the silver color is a great touch. The layers create an illusion of length, which is great for round or oval faces. You will need frequent trims to maintain the length of the layers but the style is pretty low maintenance on a daily basis.

#45 Silver Bob with Natural Wave and Dimension
With the highlights, you warmth are added to the silver which prevents it from appearing flat, and I think that is the detail that makes this cut work so well. The chin-length layers create movement, and in combination with the natural wave, it appears as though the volume is real and not over styled. This look works best on hair of fine to medium density, as the texture offsets what the density cannot provide. Only a very light styling product is required to define the waves, and the maintenance is extremely low for the result.

#46 Natural Curly Bob with Easygoing Volume
There are lots of great features to appreciate with this look. The natural curls give their own volume and the length is just above the shoulders, allowing the curls to bounce freely. This style is especially great for oval and heart-shaped faces as the curls will soften all of the angles. The less hair there is, the more bouncy the curls will look rather than weighed down. Overall, this is perfect for those with naturally curling hair as that is rare in the bob world. Enjoy.

#47 Textured Curly Bob with Defined Layers
The different layers here are intended to work with, not against, the natural curl pattern. This is how curly hair should be cut. This style at shoulder length allows the curls to grow and form with minimal shrinkage, and the natural texture creates additional volume, especially with medium to thick hair. Curly cuts always have that humidity variable, and having a humidity shield product can help keep definition on those days that are out of our control.

#48 Textured Bob with Soft Bangs and Warm Highlights
I love how the warm highlights add depth to the beautiful waves, and the soft bangs add to it even more. I appreciate that without the bangs version of this style wouldn’t be as interesting. The mid-length layers give the styles more of a casual feel, especially for fine to medium hair. The added bounce is great! I really enjoy how the highlights give a beautiful transformation and add dimension to all the right places. Everything about this cut seems to have been well planned and nothing looks like it was added as an afterthought.

#49 Choppy Lavender Bob with Playful Texture
Lavender is a fun color to work with. I don’t suggest it to everyone, but when the right client sits down and we both know this is going to work, it becomes one of the most exciting things to do. I love to create this look! The color, combined with choppy, tousled layers, offers a youthful energy and the soft bangs keep it casual enough to be wearable and not too costume-y. The jawline-grazing length is flattering to many different face shapes. The honest part though, is that fashion colors like lavender fade quickly. You will definitely need to invest in color-depositing products between visits, as well as washing in cold water. Even so, maintaining the brightness is a big commitment.

#50 Textured Grey Bob with Quiet Sophistication
I appreciate the calmness in this hairstyle. The cut includes some light layering which elevates the design from basic to more interesting. The relaxed movements are appealing on finer to medium density hair and the soft wrapping around the face adds length to rounder face shapes which is lovely. This is the type of hairstyle people compliment but find it difficult to articulate what has changed. People will notice something different but won’t be able to place what it is. The cut would have needed some maintenance to keep it looking good and more dimension could be added with highlights.

#51 Sleek Asymmetrical Silver Bob
Asymmetry is loved and hated by different people, and that is part of its beauty. With an asymmetrically cut hairstyle, hair of different lengths gives people a chance to notice the overall style without being obvious. The gloss suggests a modern cut, and some refinement, while the sleekness shows that some polish is needed, so that makes it best for fine hair. With some shaping, fine hair can achieve a smooth finish without needing to style it a lot. It will require a lot of effort to justify the look of the cut, so it will probably be worth it for only the right people.
