Starting off 2026 has shown us a new hair trend; honey copper hair color. This shade is a mix of honey gold and light copper, making it a warm and bright hue that compliments every skin-tone.
Honey copper is unlike any other shade because it takes a level of commitment not everyone is able to do. Many of my clients will change their mind once they fully grasp the extent of the honey copper maintenance. However, those who do commit to this shade become obsessed and never go back. This color is unlike any other in that it is not just a warm brunette or warm red, but a stunning combination of gold and copper. I had a client last year for example who wanted to do something different, but not too crazy. I gave her honey copper, and when her husband came to pick her up, he didn’t even recognize her. She completely transformed, and the right shade of copper makes all the difference.
This color family has a great range of possible outcomes and directions. You can go molten and fiery, or keep it soft and sunkissed. You can do sleek and expensive looking, or wild and voluminous, and it still reads as honey copper. I’m excited to show you 15 of them. I am going to tell you which ones I think are worth the maintenance and which ones are going to have you crying in my chair six weeks if you aren’t ready for the upkeep.

#1: Fiery Copper Shag with Feathered Edges
Going from brunette to this uplifting copper shag is a huge change, and I’m impressed, not only for the dramatic change but for the courage it took, and how well it paid off! The cut creates huge movement, and the feathered edges do most of the work, making fine hair look like it doubled overnight. The copper isn’t shy, and is bold. It brings tons of light to the face, and is anything but costume like. You will have to come see me this often for upkeep of your vibrancy, but you will always walk out feeling like a different person! If you have medium to thick hair, this cut will be your best friend.

#2: Glowing Copper with Long Straight Layers
It is so great when hair color and style come together for a stunning sophisticated look. Like this one. A straight sleek style. Long graduated layers that end at different lengths create movement and volume without adding puff. The beautiful copper color is so shiny and radiant and a great option for people wanting a warmer, bright color. This style is surprisingly low maintenance! It’s styled and stays that way which is an added bonus for anyone who might have to wear it in a ponytail for a sport. To keep that copper color looking bright you’ll want to make sure you’re using a color-protecting shampoo. With this hairstyle, you’ll want to have naturally straight hair. If you have to straighten it, it will create a lot of morning panic!

#3: Lush Copper Cascades with Voluminous Curls
If I had the chance to create a customized color for every person that sits in my chair, it would be this one! This stunning copper color paired with soft, voluminous waves is to die for. The layering is perfect! It takes out weight from the right areas to ensure that the curls fall naturally instead of sitting like a helmet. And the copper color? It gets deep inside each and every wave to create the incredible dimension that you didn’t even ask for. This style takes a lot of upkeep and commitment. So if you’re the type of person that doesn’t enjoy the maintenance that comes with this hairstyle, you probably won’t like this look. But if you do, you will love it!

#4: Luxuriant Copper Waves with Textured Ends
The textural ends on this look are super fun and playful so the hair doesn’t come off as too serious. This is a balayage application, and I will always advocate for it because your grow out doesn’t look terrible after 6 weeks. It gives you softer, more natural regrowth lines that look better and gives you more time between appointments. Those soft layers that are mid-back length are stunning for oval and heart-shaped faces. If you have thick, naturally wavy hair, you are essentially this photo waiting to happen. The copper tones have so much depth in the waves that it looks like three different colors depending on the light, which is so complex and interesting!

#5: Copper Sheen Mid-Length Tresses
This is the cut for you if you want a dramatic change but don’t want to lose any length! The style is just past the shoulders, and the subtle face-framing layers make it feel fresh and light. The copper color glows and reflects the light so beautifully. It also offers great styling versatility. You can wear it sleek and straight or add waves for a relaxed look. The color is going to fade, so be sure to get a color-depositing conditioner. This will keep your color fresh and push out your salon visits!

#6: Copper Glow Rippling Waves
I can tell a lot of work went into this style, and I look forward to seeing what else this stylist can do. I love the way the hairs reflect different amounts of light in different directions, and the touch of warm copper color feels like it flows like liquid. The way the volume is structured makes it so that the large hairs aren’t the only thing creating the volume. It looks great. Anyone with a warm skin tone is going to look amazing with that copper color. This is not a wash-and-go, easy style! The waves and color will take upkeep to maintain, but if you want a cute style that is perfect for date night, nice events, or just because you want to look cute in a crowd, it’ll be worth the upkeep! It will look so great and you will stand out!

#7: Subtle Copper Gleam with Soft Waves
Not everyone wants to walk into a room and have everyone notice small things like changes to their hair. If that sounds like you take notice. The copper color in this style is soft and doesn’t scream for attention. With the right amount of beach waves, her hair has enough weight to look fuller without it getting that stiff look and she won’t need to touch up those ends for a few months so you won’t need to worry about her roots. This hairstyle is ideal for people with oval faces as it makes adds width and softness to the face without looking bulky and is great to elevate your look while keeping the whole vibe effortless.

#8: Copper Ember Waves with Sunlit Reflections
Copper is a multi-faceted and warm color that influenced my work in a big way. When this shade hits light, it plays so warm and deep, and I can’t get enough of it. These long layers help thin out and remove the weight so that thick to medium hair doesn’t become a burden. I know I won’t pretend that you won’t need to come back for maintenance because you will. But, the cut is forgiving enough so that the color will still look good even when you start to look a bit less put together. I know this is a classic shape, but the color gives it a contemporary feel that is so modern.

#9: Warm Copper Curls with Seamless Layers
There’s a rumor going around that I said “look at this” and that I let one of my coworkers try to take a picture of my hair. That said, this shoulder-length copper color has my curls looking warm and full, making my medium hair look full and healthy. The perfect amount of layers let each curl bounce without having them all clump together. It hit just the right amount of manageable length, with an unmanageable amount of personality. Keep your hair hydrated. If you don’t, dry copper curls lose their shine fast; then you’re just working against yourself. A good leave-in conditioner is non-negotiable.

#10 Sleek Amber Waves with Dynamic Copper Highlights
If you’re looking to get some hair color for the first time and you’re feeling nervous, let me ease your worries. These copper highlights capture the essence of an entire copper color without the commitment! These won’t all have to be the same color, and could even work better than single color highlights. You could even have your natural hair color as the “base” that highlights are added to, and this bald “copper” hair color will help create the illusion of movement in your hair. On hair as thick as this, the color combination will create a lot more dimension. If you want a color that looks like your hair is doing something cool naturally, then foil highlights are the way to go. Yes, they will be expensive and required maintenance, but they’ll be worth it in the end.

#11: Luxurious Copper Swirls with Luminous Highlights
The copper accents and golden highlights create a stunning light-reflective effect that’s more than just a ring light effect. The curls bouncy and flowing quality suggest clever intentional layering, keeping the natural body and thickness of the hair, so the whole look doesn’t appear heavy or shapeless. This allows the design to fully embrace a soft, feminine aesthetic. The warm colors throughout the style really warms up the construct, and it will suit those with warmer skin tones best, to the point where it’s almost unethical to look that good. I’m not sugar-coating anything; you will have to factor in some degree of maintenance for the color and curl definition to keep it looking good. Ultimately the style will be eye-catching in a way that will have people stopping to look.

#12: Warm Copper Shoulder-Length Bob with Textured Ends
I love bobs that actually do a lot, and this one is doing a lot. The warm copper with that sneaky balayage is creating a sun-kissed dimension that looks effortless (although we both know your stylist spent a solid two hours on it). The texture on the ends is key if you have fine or limp hair because it helps create movement and fullness, which a blunt cut is not going to give you. It also frames the face beautifully, can be worn casually or dressed up, and the length is that ideal sweet spot where you can throw it in a tiny pony when you need it out of your way. The color will fade (as copper always does) so make sure to stay on top of your appointments, and you’ll be golden, or copper, rather.

#13: Copper Sunset Balayage with Layered Texturing
I love how this balayage captures a sunset! The roots offer a beautiful contrast against warm copper mids and ends that shift color beautifully and fair skin tones really enhance this balayage! The layered texture is one of the most important aspects of this cut. These layers break up the density of the hair and at this length without layers you’ll get a triangle and nobody wants that. The crafted color really shines through the lengths and the hair moves beautifully. This look is stunning while fresh but you’ll definitely want to adhere to a maintenance schedule, especially between 4-6 weeks when the copper starts showing signs of fading

#14 Copper-Toned Sleek Mid-Length Cut
It can be difficult to get simple cuts right. This is an example of simple done perfectly. Most importantly, it’s straight, falls mid-length just past the shoulders, and the vibrant copper tone is doing all the talking. Whoever is maintaining this hair is doing a great job because the finish is so glossy, it looks like a shampoo commercial. If you’ve got naturally straight, wavy hair with moderate density, this is going to be one of those haircuts you can basically roll out of bed and look polished. The cut shows restraint as it knows the color is the star. To maintain the shine between color appointments, keep a gloss treatment in your rotation.

#15: Soft Copper Flow with Light Waves
When someone says, “I want a copper color, but I don’t want to put in a ton of effort.” This is the one I show them. The warmth here is really good, and it’s nice and calm and very natural and easy to wear. The soft waves provide a lovely movement to the hair, and if your hair is a little thinner, then the visual volume provided by subtle layers will impact how you will appreciate the look without having to put in much effort. However, I will say that if your hair is very fine, then those waves will probably not last much past lunch, so you might want to use a light texturizing spray to help with that. The color complements most face shapes, and it’s great if you want to soften a more prominent jawline, and as long as you’re not using some random grocery store shampoo, the copper dimension will depth stay rich.
