I remember working with a female cellist who wanted a versatile hairstyle that would allow her to play the cello while keeping her hair out of her eyes. This isn’t a style that you can set and forget, plan to do a few touch ups if you are going to be wearing this for a long time, especially if you run your hands through your hair a lot.

In general, I would suggest using a 1.25 inch curling iron to set the curls, and do not touch them until they have completely cooled. The longer you wait to touch them, the bouncier they will be and they will be less likely to fall. The chestnut color is stunning, and those curls look almost like they’re flowing in the right light.

I want to be clear about one thing with the silver hair: it is a stunning color, but it is a huge commitment. You’re going to need to schedule toning appointments to avoid the color getting brassy, and that also means you’re going to need to invest in more purple shampoo. Just something to think about so you don’t fall in love with the color too fast. If you have finer hair, the twist here works to your advantage as it creates natural volume at the crown that you would otherwise have to do with a bunch of product.

When creating hairstyles like this, I find that side opening twists that lead to a focus point at the back creates a sort of elegance that many half-ups do not have. Most of the time once you put a twist in, it’ll stay there all day too, so boredom, frustration, and re-adjustments aren’t really an issue. I do recommend a few attempts to make it sit just right, and I’d also recommend patience because if you get annoyed with your hair easily, this look probably isn’t for you.

This is excellent in terms of hidden hardware because no pins, no elastics, and no obstructions break the line of the hair. That kind of seamlessness is either incredible skill or the right kind of spin pins at the right angles. The auburn color looks amazing, and the shine is a lot more pronounced when the top section is pulled straight like that. Loose styling doesn’t always show the shine as much. This hairstyle looks the best when the hair is freshly washed and conditioned. Don’t even think about trying it on day three hair because it won’t look the same.

If you already have the density, this style is practically effortless and looks expensive.

Most of the focus will be on the braid in the crown section. The different widths of the braid creates an organic texture instead of mechanical. The relaxed soft waves also make this more wearable. If you have too much structure, it would make the entire look too rigid. For a wedding, this is a really nice option, whether as a guest, or if you’re a bride, you can feel like yourself instead of a bridal magazine cover. For the braid, I would suggest a few practice sessions to get the spacing and looseness just right, as it can make a huge difference in the overall look.

We must also point out that the multidimensional color is doing just as much talking for this style as the styling is. The rich brown base with subtle blonde highlights creates movement and light, even when the hair is completely still. A style can be elevated above the expected standard, and, while some may consider such a thing impossible, adding small floral embellishments intertwined in the braid accents can achieve this. In my opinion, the reservation shown in the placement of the flowers is the key factor. In fact, this style would quickly turn into a costume with too many floral additions. I do believe, though, that too few floral accents can come across as somewhat lacking in passion or care. This braid design is intricate enough to make me think you’d need to be quite skilled to do it on your own without help. Healthy blonde hair goes a long way in the overall aesthetic of this design. Personally, I think this look would be better if the braids were not quite so pancaked out. I appreciate that this is the aesthetic you want. I just think this technique has been quite effective when working with finer hair.

I’m excited that butterfly clips have made a comeback! While hair clips may be styled in a ‘chaotic sprinkle’ 1999 way, this style shows that the clips can be used for more than just holding hair back, adding a whimsical touch instead of a childish look. For this style, hair that has just been set into soft, voluminous waves works best. As the waves begin to fall, the overall balance of the hair begins to feel ‘off’. If your hair has a fine to medium density, this style is a good choice because the clips will provide the needed structure that makes up for the hair that wouldn’t be able to hold a twist.
#20: Mahogany Waves with Half-Up Rose Knot
The rose knot is the kind of detail that makes people stop and ask you how you did it; whether that is good or bad is up to you. It’s a coiled and pinned twist of hair that is shaped like a rose. It looks complicated but is easier than it looks and is hair length and thickness dependent with enough rope to create some dimensional knot. The shade of mahogany is gorgeous and the rich depth is perfect for a whole host of skin tone. I think it would look nice to use some shine serum on the top part to get that glossy silky look and then some more textured waves finish below that to give some contrast.

This style is an exception because most styles don’t work with your texture because you have thick, naturally curly hair. The volume is controlled by the half-up twists, and the floral embellishments soften and feminize the look. To ensure all the pieces hold for the entire duration of your event, especially because curly hair tends to escape from anything less than a tight hold, the back twist needs to be anchored securely. I’d use a few extra bobby pins, and would consider it insurance rather than overkill.

Hair with a golden blonde and ash tone looks shiny and has a pearlescent sheen. This look is created by an experienced colorist and adds dimension to the hairstyle. The knotted section of the hair adds a more modern vibe to the look. Personally, I prefer a more relaxed style instead of a slick and tight bun. The curled ends of the hair will need a good amount of hairspray to stay in position. I suggest curling your hair in smaller sections, pinning the curls to let them cool, and only releasing them when you’re done to achieve the best hold. With this style the most you will have to think about is flyaways and if you want to keep the mess intentional, you can achieve that with a light mist of hairspray from about a foot away.

From a distance, it might appear to be a simple half-up style, however, the close detail weaving effect shows exquisite craftsmanship. This is a versatile style to wear to a daytime wedding and to the evening reception because it is flexible for any occasion. I reckon you can replicate it at home, just some practice with sectioning and you will get the hang of it.

This is not a hairstyle you would do casually as you are running out the door. This would be a hairstyle you would want to dedicate about twenty minutes to and it is worth that investment. If you intend to have the proportions correct, the curls will need to be tight and bouncy instead of shaped into loose waves. You will want to set the curls a lot tighter than you expect and let them relax naturally. Around thirty minutes after you take the curling iron out, you will have that ideal bouncy wave equilibrium.

I love the waterfall braid. It looks really complicated but all it is, is a French braid where you drop one of the strands at the bottom during each twist. You just need to learn to understand the mechanics of the braid. It is a 5 minute braid once you have it mastered, but it will look like it took you so much longer to do. In this hairstyle, the warm and cool blended brunette hues make each dropped strand stand out against the others, creating an excellent waterfall effect. This braid looks its best with medium to thick hair since there needs to be enough strands to drop to keep the braid from looking thin. If you want to try a waterfall braid, just watch one tutorial, practice a few times, and you will be good to go!

The knot should look full enough to not look like a sad nub on top of your head and it should be sectioned enough so that the top can be easily covered. The waves below should be soft and slightly undone. A perfectly structured updo with uniform waves would create a weird formal conflict. Long waves with a color gradient that goes from dark to light in the mid lengths will create a lot of depth so they won’t look boring!
#35: Espresso Tresses with Gleaming Caramel Highlights
The blends and bundles create a caramel coat, and a second crown caramel in the stain will pull the eye. To achieve this, color use will be expanded. Half-up styles pull the hair back and allow you to see all the layers. Wavy is the ideal texture and sits below the crown with not much. If you have thinner hair, consider the knot more, and use a small bun maker to give the wrap twist a bit more body.

Thank you for keeping it simple. The clasp allows for the style to be kept structured while the rest of the hair is free. Here, the hair is in soft waves which looks effortless. Those curls will take a lot of effort to stay bouncy. The heavier your hair is, the more likely it is for lots of bounce to be lost over the course of the evening. To keep the curls in place use a curling iron and a good amount of hairspray.

In natural light, light chestnut brown hair has a special quality where it seems to glow from the inside, and this hairdo, in combination with the waves, illuminates every little bit of light. I like showing the rose bun to clients because it looks advanced while still being fairly simple once you get used to the twisting and coiling motions. Essentially, it is just a flat bun. The hair’s natural wave helps it look like petals and adds texture. I’ve had a lot of success with this style on bridesmaids at weddings because it looks good on all hair textures and densities. The biggest challenge of this style is getting the right tightness. The bun can either look like a cinnamon roll if the bun is too tight, or all the hair will fall down within an hour if it’s too loose. It takes time to find that balance, but it will serve you well in the long run.

This style is best on thick and dense hair because there will be ample hair material to support the definition and shape of each braid.

This flower hair accessory works for many hairstyles. Make sure to get a good quality one, as cheap accessories can ruin even the best hairstyles. Placement is also very important. The waves’ beautiful copper hue is rich and multi-faceted, and for this half-updo I wanted the color and texture to speak for themselves, so I didn’t want to overdo it with embellishments. Because she has longer, thicker hair, the ease with which the twist is smooth against the head is something I usually have to work for.
