25 Ultimate Haircuts For Plus Size Women with Round Faces That Look Like You Spent Hours on Your Hair (You Didnt)

When thinking about their face shape, many people see it as a problem that they have to work around. I have never seen it that way. Some of the prettiest haircuts I have had the honor to do have been on round faces. There is a softness to a round face that really holds shape. When a cut is done well, all of the pieces come together in a way that is very enjoyable.

I remember an old client of mine, one of the longest, who had been living with the same long, college-appropriate layers since way back when. Someone told her that length was necessary to “slim” her face, and she never got rid of those layers. We ended up cutting it to her jaw, and added some texture, and she started crying. It wasn’t for any reason that was overly dramatic, it was simply because she finally, for the first time in a long time, looked like herself. That is the type of stuff that a great cut does. It simply allows the face to be free and everything falls into place like it is meant to. So, with my love for round faces, here are some of the haircuts I have done, and some that I admire, along with the reasoning for each.

Chic Layered Bob with Soft Waves

#1: Layered Bob with Soft Waves and Warm Color

I think I keep coming back because there’s just something so amazing about the way this bob moves. The layers are blended rather than choppily added which keeps the entire style looking effortless and that’s trickier than most think. That warm reddish-brown is doing a lot of quiet work here too, giving the hair depth without being too distracting. It carries the cut into a softer look rather than a harsher one. Obviously, the hair should have a natural texture to begin with, but a large barrel curling iron would do the trick if that’s not the case.

Sleek Rounded Bob with Subtle Layers

#2 Rounded Bob That Sits Just Right

I love a bob that knows exactly where to stop, and this one does. It hits the jaw just enough to feel intentional rather than blunt, and it has enough soft layering so it doesn’t feel too heavy or helmet-y. The shape is super sharp on this one. This is the kind of bob where a warm caramel glossy would just be stunning on it — something to light up the hair when you turn your head. The downside is that a cut this precise does mean regular upkeep to keep the edges from getting soft, but if you don’t mind that, it’s a really great option!

Textured Wavy Bob with Face-Framing Layers

#3 Tousled Textured Bob with a Bit of Depth

I appreciate the freeform nature of this style. The waves capture an ideal sort of imperfection, and the entire style feels natural. The face framing layers are the best part of this style, and they really direct the attention to the right areas. Those hidden highlights on this dark base add just the right amount of dimension to keep things fun. If your hair is straight, you may end up putting in more effort to achieve this style. Sea salt spray and some scrunching will likely be necessary to achieve this goal. Ultimately, the style gives that sought after effortlessness.

Chic Textured Pixie Cut with Soft Side Swept Bangs

#4 Textured Pixie with a Soft Sweep

The first thing I notice is the bangs; they appear to be swept to the side in a kind of careless manner, which gives the pixie cut a more approachable look rather than an edgier look. There is enough lift and movement in the cut that it never looks flat, which is very important for shorter cuts. Even though a considerable amount of precision was used to achieve a cut that looks like it was done in a rush, regular maintenance is key to keeping the cut from growing out of shape too quickly. The good news is that the everyday styling required is minimal.

Textured Shoulder-Length Waves with Subtle Highlights

#5 Shoulder-Length Waves with a Little Brightness

What stands out to me in this haircut is the bounce. There is a liveliness to the hair, and the right amount of texture to hold these waves and not be weighed down is crucial for that. The highlights are a bit more mellow, and almost remind me of how summer sun exposure causes natural hair to lighten to a warm honey. Also, they bring a gentle brightness and openness to the face. The shoulder length is a hit, and works for so many people because it offers versatility without committment. A little lightweight styling mousse would be great to keep the texture throughout the day.

Chic Rounded Bob with Full Bangs

#6 Rounded Bob with Bangs That Frame Everything

I really like how the bangs are the most noticeable and stand out the most. They are full enough to make a statement and cut softly enough not to look blunt or heavy. The particular length and shape of this bob, especially with finer hair, gives the illusion of more density which is a nice bonus. The warm tone is also super nice and rich which adds a polished touch to the style. I have to be honest and say bangs are a massive commitment. Depending on how long you want them, they will need to be trimmed every couple weeks, and bangs can get super unruly when it’s humid.

Textured Shoulder-Length Cut with Soft Waves

#7 Shoulder-Length Waves in Warm Brown

The overall look to me is very welcoming with appreciation to the color, flow, and drape. The layers are enough to add some life and to keep the hair from getting too flat against the face. With naturally textured hair like this, you are working with what you have rather than against it. That always yields the best outcome. If you wanted to bring out the waves, a diffuser would be the best. This is one of those haircuts that looks effortless, and that’s the aim.

Modern Textured Pixie Cut with Subtle Volume

#8 Short Textured Pixie with Tousled Crown

My eyes are drawn to the crown. It has an ethereal quality to it that really accentuates and opens up the face. On rounder faces, the slight height at the top makes an incredible difference. The overall design is fun and has a lot of play, and while it could be a little more structured, that isn’t the goal and it looks so nice and intentional. For finer hair, this is even more ideal as it really allows the layers to show and create the fullness everywhere. I mean, it will take a bit of texturizing paste in the morning to bring back that effortlessly tousled shape, but it works!

Sleek Mid-Length Blunt Cut with Subtle Face-Framing Layers

#9 Mid-Length Blunt Cut with Quiet Layers

Thank you for your patience. I appreciate the neatness and the length, as well as the face-framing layers, which soften the look. It’s great how this style is adaptable for a regular Tuesday as well as a more formal occasion. I always consider how many iterations of life this will suit while I’m cutting. The length is right within the adaptable zone that allows for straight and curly looks, and half-up hairstyles. If you like to mix things up without altering the cut, this style offers you that flexibility.

Bold A-Line Bob with Soft Bangs

#10 A-Line Bob with Bangs in a Rich Auburn

I noticed this color first. It is a deep auburn that has a real warmth to it, a hue that will shine in the sunlight. The A-line cut is very flattering and the steep angle gives a sense of direction and movement. The thickness of this hair is really full and the bangs soften the forehead and frame the face. With however much upkeep the bangs and color will be, this is a style that gives more than it takes.

Stylish Wavy Lob with Soft Bangs

#11 Wavy Lob with Soft Bangs and Easy Movement

The look has a calm confidence that I really like. I find the lob length easy to manage, while the bangs keep the style looking youthful without adding too much fuss. I like that the wave has a playful personality that isn’t too polished or clean. The cut holds its shape nicely in medium to thick hair and the end layers are not too bulky. Plus, if your hair is wavy, you’re halfway to having this look. You might need to curl it if your hair is straight, but it comes together pretty quickly.

Charming Curly Bob with Soft Ends

#12 Curly Bob in Warm Copper

This haircut is perfect for its owner! The chin length cut accentuates her fantastic curl pattern, and the gentle copper shade highlights all her curls beautifully! The look is fun and playful, and curls like these scream for a defining cream. Something lightweight and touchable, a cream like that would be perfect! A haircut like this is definitely a sign that you want to run your fingers through your hair, which is always a good sign!

Softly Layered Mid-Length Waves with Subtle Highlights

#13 Mid-Length Layers with Sun-Kissed Highlights

The highlights are the best part! They brighten her hair to look almost sun-kissed. The layered cuts are soft and add lightness to the hair, and the length may feel heavy. Movement is evident in thick, healthy hair. What I appreciate the most with this cut is that it looks effortless and I love how it has been done. A good conversation with your colorist about placement would make all the difference in getting this result.

Layered Beachy Lob with Effortless Texture

#14 Beachy Lob with Tousled Layers

This style nails the undone look. The layered, tousled waves create just the right amount of lightness to keep the hair from appearing thinned out. This combination of length and texture is very flattering on medium textured hair. The hair will fall softly and create volume in the right areas. The highlights are super subtle, but in the best way possible. If you’re looking for this texture on days when your hair isn’t cooperating, just a bit of scrunching while blow drying with a diffuser is your best bet. Though, some days it will simply do this on its own.

Textured Mid-Length Cut with Soft Waves

#15 Mid-Length Textured Cut with Gentle Movement

The simplicity really stands out and I appreciate the stillness of it. It’s not trying to do more than be a classic mid length cut with some subtle waves, highlights, and a good cut and style. It’s very simple, which is why it works, but the waves framing the face and the texture added will keep it from falling flat. If you have finer hair, I’d suggest a root lift volumizing spray to achieve a comparable fullness. This look will carry over into other environments as is without being restyled and that’s perfect.

Soft Layered Cut with Wispy Bangs

#16 Layered Cut with Wispy Bangs and Warm Chestnut Tones

The wisps of bangs are nice because they are light enough to move with the hair and frame the face in a way that draws people in. In terms of the shoulder length style, it gives a lot of room to play and the different layers help keep the hair feeling lifted and airy. To me, the biggest compliment I can give a haircut is that it looks fantastic even on days where you haven’t done much to your hair.

Stylish Textured Bob with Subtle Bangs

#17 Textured Bob with Soft Bangs at the Jawline

The shape of this cut is wonderful. The jawline hitting length paired with the slight wave is great, and the bangs are soft enough to feel integrated into the style, rather than sitting separate. For cuts like this, thick hair is ideal because all of that natural weight will help to support the structure. This bob has such a nice shape to it that it could even dry air-dried and look like it had some effort put into it. If you have thick hair, make sure to stick to your trimming schedule because the weight at the ends builds really quickly and it will completely alter the feel of the cut.

Sleek Mid-Length Blunt Cut with Subtle Layers

#18 Straight Mid-Length Cut with Clean, Subtle Layers

The most basic cuts can often be the hardest to execute, and this is certainly one of them. Nothing can be done to hide any imperfections, and with a cut like this that is laid out straightforward and blunt, each element has to come together precisely. The finish needs to be perfectly clear with just the right layering to prevent the cut from looking stiff. The lines need to be clean to create a lengthening effect, which can be really nice. If your hair is fine to medium in thickness, these types of cuts can look really good, so go ahead and do it. If your hair is on the thicker side though, be sure to tell your stylist to put in more internal layering, or the cut will feel really heavy and look too boxy.

Textured Wavy Lob with Subtle Layering

#19 Wavy Lob with Soft Movement and Easy Shape

This lob bears a shape that feels organic and kind of effortless, as if it just tumbles this way without you needing to do anything. The soft waves give just the right amount of volume around the face and the mid-lengths, and the subtle layering keeps the ends from looking too thick and/or blunt. Sitting a little just above the shoulders, it’s that length where it’s long enough to pull back if you need to but short enough to still feel fresh and current. A little styling cream worked through damp hair before air drying would help hold the waves without anything feeling crunchy or stiff.

Textured Curly Bob with Soft Face-Framing Layers

#20 Curly Bob with Face-Framing Softness

The most important part of this haircut is the face-framing layers. Especially with curls, getting the front pieces correct is very important as they are the most pronounced and set the tone for the rest. The length of the bob gives the curls volume and bounce without being too much, and overall the shape of the silhouette is very nice. Considering hair that is medium to thick, with these curls filling the cut out is much more probable. Curls like these prove that the right products are crucial. You need to define your curls without them being crunchy and moisture is essential without weight. When done right a curly bob like this is one of the most stunning things a person can have.

Modern Asymmetrical Bob with Subtle Highlights

#21 Asymmetrical Bob with Highlights and Clean Lines

Instead of feeling dramatic, it is more interesting which is fitting for this contrast. That tiny bit of length creates direction and prevents it from being too boring. When the hair is straight, the highlight creates contrast to let the lines really pop, and everything looks intentional and clean. This cut is going to be designed to look its best and require regular upkeep. The angles will start to soften as it grows, and you’ll lose that added detail. If this cut is really calling your name, be prepared for it to be a regular occurrence.

Textured Chin-Length Bob with Soft Bangs

#22 Chin-Length Textured Bob with Soft Bangs

Bangs on round faces can look very nice and this is no exception. The bangs look very soft and blend in to the rest of the haircut instead of sitting apart from the rest of the hair, giving the haircut a very cohesive look. With hair like this which is thick and wavy, the soft texture really helps to fill out the shape and give it a lot of movement. The soft layers are what create the movement instead of the hair just feeling heavy around the jaw. What I think makes this haircut special is that it looks effortless and relaxed like someone who cares about their appearance but doesn’t put in a lot of thought into it.

Stylish Straight Lob with Subtle Textured Ends

#23 Straight Lob with Textured Ends in Warm Auburn

That shade of auburn is striking; it has warmth without being too much, and adds richness to the whole look that a more neutral color wouldn’t. The texture at the ends keeps the lob from being too blunt or one-dimensional; it adds just enough interest at the bottom to finish the cut. This type of shape is very polished on finer hair. There’s nothing competing for attention, and it looks understated and classy. This cut is suited for people who don’t want to spend too much time styling their hair. Just don’t forget to book your trims to maintain your ends.

Beautifully Textured Medium-Length Waves with Soft Layers

#24 Medium-Length Waves with Soft Layers and Warmth

I notice the warm brown color with highlights. The highlights are very natural looking. The waves and layers are nice and balanced. They are not too chaotic and the layers are important to keep the length from looking limp. It looks good on busy days and when you take time to style it. If your hair is fine, be gentle with the heat. Also, keep your layers trimmed so they can do their job.

Chic Textured Pixie Cut with Subtle Volume

#25 Short Textured Pixie with Soft Highlights

What I enjoy about this pixie cut is how soft and structured it is at the same time. The layers create both movement and volume, and the highlights are a great way to add dimension to the length so it doesn’t look too simple. It is a cut that works with your features instead of the against them. Nothing about it seems like it is trying to distract. This cut is fine to medium hair because the layers can create the illusion of more hair. The maintenance is keeping regular trims to maintain the shape, and while it might seem like a lot, it helps make your morning routine simple. I feel like a lot of people undervalue this until they have the experience.
