This is one of those hairstyles where the cut and style are doing equal amounts, and that is a compliment to both. The waves give fine hair a blunt, and the illusion of density that can’t be achieved with an even, flat style, and the length just above the shoulders helps keep everything lifted. I recommend a light volumizing mousse worked through damp hair before you blow dry it. The most important part is that those waves hold, and you don’t want them to hold without getting crunchy. It’s the holy grail of cuts, and it looks like you spent more time styling it than you actually did.

I love this haircut. With this cut, I can let the layering do the talking. The hair is super fine, but it looks much fuller because the volume is perfectly located at the crown and along the sides. I am really excited about this one because the loose curls will look awesome. They will be bouncy and not too structured and will frame your face softly and naturally. This will work with what you currently have, and cut shouldn’t fight against it. The shorter length will give the curls more freedom. The most common mistakes I see with curly cuts on fine hair is to have their curls weighed down by the hair, and this is a clear example. A good lightweight curl cream is going to be needed for this. The wrong product will cause all the curls to go flat.

I frequently suggest this type of long bob to clients who want hairstyles that “do something” without cutting too much length. It is well layered so the hair does not look stringy, and will have some good length to swing up or down with a slight wave. Honestly, the best color choice is sometimes just going with what you already have. The bottom of the cut has weight and thickness, creating the illusion of thicker hair. The face-framing layers draw the eye exactly where you want it. It’s not a weird compliment at all, but this is one of those cuts that looks really expensive.

Another copper pixie and I’m defending this one because it earns its place. The crown has real lift here, which is where most of us first lose volume, so the layering is done in a way I really appreciate. The top texture keeps it modern and a little undone rather than too polished, which is a good call for this length. If you’re nervous about going this short, I’d say this is one of the most forgiving pixie shapes because it has enough length on top to play with.

Maybe not a hugely different cut, but it changes the whole effect of the style to be more about your face (which is the goal) than your hair, which is definitely the goal of a good haircut. The layers provide just the right amount of texture to stop fine hair from appearing limp, and the shoulder length is more forgiving in how long you can leave it before growing it out if you want to change things up.

The texture in this pixie is good enough to appear deliberate and contemporary as opposed to “I just rolled out of bed” messy. The layers around the cheekbones are appropriately positioned and the overall shape is flattering without being overdone. I would like to mention that the subtle silver highlights add brightness and lift to the entire face, which is a great detail. This is a cut that is very versatile and looks good from every point, which trust me, I can’t say that about every pixie.

Certain hairstyles can definitely suit or not suit certain people, and this one does. The wispy bangs soften and frame the forehead and the eyes. The bangs also suit and I definitely want to help avoid those types of situations where the bangs don’t suit. The layers of the overall cut are positioned really well with good height and those layers are nice to create movement. When going for a cut like this, it’s worth noting that it’s time to book a bang trim a little more often than your other regular trims, I would recommend every three to four weeks, but the good news is that it’s a quick trim, so it should be no problem at all!
#21 Textured Pixie Cut with Spiky Layers
This hairdo has real attitude! The spiky layers offer an edgy style which work well with fine hair as the extra volume helps conceal areas with thinning hair. The lighter color around the face brightens everything up and the shorter length means you won’t have to spend ages styling it either. I suspect this cut will need a bit of product to keep the spiky bits in place, maybe a texturising paste or a light wax. It will probably take 30 seconds of work for a big return, that’s my favourite kind of maths!
