When a client sits in my chair for the first time and wants bangs, I sense the excitement, but also the fear. I can only compare the two feelings to the fear and excitement you’d feel if you were to go sky diving for the first time. That reaction is accurate because bangs entail commitment. They are asking for changes to the contour of their face, and also changes concerning the amount of maintenance they will have to do to style their hair. To make matters worse, there is no way to avoid the fact that bangs will have a super annoying long growing out period that will test their patience.
After years of practice, I’ve come to realize that women who dare take the leap and get bangs do so without regret. I recall a client of mine from last spring who had been trying out fake bangs by using bobby pins to pull some hair forward for 3 consecutive months before I was able to get my hands on her. 3 months. The moment I completed the cut, she couldn’t hold back the tears and said she had finally come to her true self. That is the kind of impact decent bangs have. They do not just change your hair, they reorganize your entire face like a puzzle. Let me show you some more inspiration so that you get to achieve the bangs of your dreams because the truth is that most bangs just are not it.

#1: Feathered Mocha Layers with That Perfect Airy Fringe
What I love about this cut is it looks good with any amount of styling. Mocha is a nice classy touch to the look. With the layered feathers, there’s movement, and the fringe is airy enough to let the hair go and not feel like a wall across your forehead. If I had to pick a cut that looks like it was made for your hair type, this would be it. I’m a huge fan of this color as it adds even more richness, depth, and complexity to the cut. If you’re medium to thick and worried about the bangs being too heavy this is also the cut for you, trust me. I’d recommend giving it a try if you’re looking for something easy to style as it’s pretty low maintenance. With just a round brush, blow dryer, and five minutes you’re set. It’s that simple!

#2: Layered Cut with Soft Textured Bangs
This looks clever due to the type of cut used. The layers obtai the volumizing effect on the mid lengths without the ends being too wispy and the bangs texture beg modern enough without going full shag. The highlights weave thorough the layers to create movement with depth, which is ultimately the point of highlights. This is the one I would steer you towards if you are looking for something that feels more like a refresh and not a reinvention.

#3: Edgy Long Cut with Bold Straight Bangs
It is true that straight bangs are a huge commitment. Although, I must say, this deep burgundy with blunt fringe is gorgeous! You will, however, need to come in every 3-4 weeks to trim the bangs. If you don’t, your bangs are going to start doing whatever they want to do. If hair maintenance is not your thing, you will get a more edgy look, opposed to the softer styles. People are going to be staring at the glowing, light catching color! Weightless layers will do the trick!

#4: Vibrant Curly Bob with Defined Bangs
The red color is beautiful. I love being a hairdresser when I get to do colors like this. The bounce and curl definition is amazing! This is a great cut that works with the texture of the hair. The bangs are blended to the curl pattern and the length is perfect for curly bobs. This is above the shoulder which avoids triangle head and adds fullness to the look. With a definable cream it’s going to look intentional but the cut will do most of the work.

#5: Textured Curly Lob with Soft Bangs
I love curly lobs! They are super flattering, and soft bangs are a great addition. The bangs integrate into the curl pattern so well that it looks like an effortless hairstyle. We know it took work, but it looks great for what it is! The length is enough to give weight to the curls so they don’t shrink too much, but still have that carefree vibe. A lightweight mousse scrunched in will change your life if your curls lose definition by noon.

#6: Chic Textured Bob with Bold Blunt Bangs
The difference with a bob and straight-across bangs make this hairstyle really stand out. With a more textured look, straight-across bangs give off a really edgy purposeful look. Like you did think about it, but not obsessively. The fine hair here is actually a plus, as it gives a lightweight texture that will be lost if you have thicker hair doing this style. I’m not saying it’s going to be wash and go hair, because you will need a straightener for the bangs and possibly a texturizing product for the rest, but the end result is an effortlessly on trend hair look that is not overly high-end.

#7: Softly Fringed Layered Bob with Subtle Waves
I would describe this hairstyle as “your hair but better” and while that may sound like an insult, it is the highest praise I could offer a cut. The soft fringe is doing this nice thing where it fethers into the bob instead of just sitting as a block piece on your forehead and the gentle waves are wonderful as well because they keep it from looking flat and one-dimensional. All you need is a little bit of sea salt spray on towel-dried hair, scrunch it, and leave. You’ll want to come in for regular trims to keep the layers from growing out in a weird way, but otherwise, this is as low maintenance as it gets for something that looks this good.

#8: Trendy Textured Bob with Wispy Bangs
If you are unsure about getting bangs, try starting with wispy bangs. They are less of a commitment than standard bangs. On a textured bob, wispy bangs are a great addition because the style of the cut is meant to be light, undone and effortless just like the bangs. The highlights give a nice subtle dimension to the bob which is always a risk with fine hair at this length. For clients who say they want something cute, but then mention they have a max of 7 minutes to do anything to their hair in the morning, this is the cut I suggest because it requires no styling.

#9: Stylish Short Bob with Playful Bangs
The shorter bob is definitely my style. The cut’s clean, graphic quality is so perfect, and you just can’t get that with longer bobs. The bang detail is really nice, and gives just the right amount of character without being excessive. The dark hair is beautiful, and the natural shine is gorgeous. You really do want to add some shine serum to the ends, and that’s a must. Even on days when you feel like you don’t have your life together, it does a great job making you feel put together, and honestly, that is more valuable than any styling tip I can give you.

#10: Textured Shag with Soft Straight Bangs
I’ve been noticing the shag hairstyle making a strong return and I love it! When done right, shag cuts are incredible for fine hair. They create the illusion of more hair due to the layers, so you don’t need blowouts or a million products. Soft, straight bangs add a touch to the style and help it look less messy. I see the shiny quality of this hair and it tells me someone is using a good nourishing hair treatment. If you’re going to do a shag cut, please keep taking good care of those ends! Shag cuts show damage really easily and nothing ruins this style more than split ends.

#11: Long Layered Cut with Soft Wispy Bangs
What I like about this cut is that it doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. It is a great long layered haircut with soft bangs, and it doesn’t need any gimmicks to look good. The dark color has great depth and shine, the type that can only be achieved from healthy hair. The layers are cut so that the ends have movement without looking overly thin. The soft bangs frame the cut nicely and make it more approachable. They also help to balance out the length. It is often the case that the best change comes from a really well done version of a classic.

#12: Modern Blended Long Cut with Subtle Bangs
I really have to commend the blending on this color because the execution is so seamless and skillful. The bangs show just enough to be considered longer face-framing pieces that happen to sit on the forehead, which enables you to style them in a variety of ways. The slight layering maintains that thick and full appearance while also contributing movement which allows it to be straight enough to show off the color work beautifully. If you have medium to thick hair and want bangs without being slash feeling like you ‘got bangs’, this is it.

#13: Modern Textured Cut with Soft Blunt Bangs
The soft blunt bang haircut looks clean and sophisticated, but because of the softness on the ends, it also has a more casual, friendlier feel. It is cut to the shoulders which is the perfect length so it is long enough to get pulled back and short enough that it has shape and volume without needing styling. The texture makes it look relaxed and as if it was done in a rushed manner, a look most people pay a lot for and get haircuts that don’t even work for them. This cut aims for that look.

#14: Rich Burgundy Long Layers with Bold Bangs
I’m not sorry for having a favorite-child relationship with deep burgundy. This shade is dark and sophisticated in low-light settings, but when it catches the light it transforms into full wine-country gorgeous. Beautiful. I love the bold straight bangs, they feel like a choice from someone who knows what they want and I respect that. The long layers also help the heaviness of the color not weigh the style down too much. If you’re going to do one bold thing this year, I’m telling you, a color like this with a bang this is going to have you feeling more than any subtle highlight refresh would.

#15: Soft Textured Lob with Chic Micro Bangs
Micro bangs are polarizing, and I get the reasoning. The way someone can style or cut their hair is as big of a statement as the cut itself; this could be a fun way to get people talking. I think they are special and provide a unique editorials style perspective. They also elevate a basic lob cut to something that feels much more engaging. Paired with some waves, they stop the cut from feeling overly harsh; with the right density, the body of the hair gives the lob more volume and contrast to how short the bangs are. It looks like a cut that means business, and it is nothing short of glorious.

#16: Chic Textured Bob with Bold Bangs
The blunt fringe bob is giving some major French girl vibes and I love it! The texture is a little reminiscent of the bob with blunt fringe and helmet look, but the stylist really nailed the balance of the structure and movement. The natural density adds volume in all the right places (the crown and mid-lengths) without the need for backcombing or volumizing powder. If you have been thinking about getting a bob but have been worried about looking like ‘a mom at soccer practice’, this one definitely has enough edge to quiet those fears!

#17: Chic Layered Cut with Soft Bangs
With this layered hairstyle and soft bangs, attention is drawn first to the eyes and cheeks. The stylist definitely used a razor to create some precise point cutting as the layers have great movement. Thicker hair doesn’t have that kind of movement, so blunt shears were definitely not used. A sign of a great haircut is that it can go from a Tuesday morning meeting to a Saturday night dinner with no changes. If you have medium to thick hair and want a hairstyle that feels elegant but never boring, add this to your inspiration board.

#18: Textured Wavy Cut with Bold Blunt Bangs
I appreciate the way the wave pattern and the blunt bangs play with softness and structure, and how the bangs help create that balance. Elongated bangs can usually be very severe and feel quite overwhelming. The hairstyle’s ease comes from the integrated waves. This is a texture that typically does not come from straight hair. It’s a hairstyle that is purposeful but also embraces the natural texture of the hair. It will be tempting to style it with a lot of products and heat, but really all you need to do is use your fingers to encourage the waves while it dries.

#19: Trendy Blunt Cut with Straight Bangs
This is really nice to look at, almost pleasurable even. The long blunt cut with bangs reminds me of a construction piece. The type of construction where every angle is intentional and rather than being dull, it is surprising. The health and shine of the hair is really impressive. I’d love to know what conditioner she uses. If this is your goal and you have thick hair, you should know that a lot of commitment is needed to maintain the straightened look. You will be relying a lot on your straightener and frequent trims are a must. That being said, if you have finer hair, this cut will create the look of thickness and fullness, giving your hair essentially free volume.

#20: Textured Long Cut with Fluffy Bangs
My favorite part about fluffy bangs is the easy volume! They give off a look that says, “I did nothing,” and gives you the ability to put in minimal effort, while still standing out. The hints of sunlight in your hair as the subtle balayage blends with the layers gives a beautiful dimension to the entire cut and looks gorgeous even as it grows out. This means you get to save money because, as the color grows out, you won’t have to make as many trips to the salon! These layers are designed to provide movement so this cut is ideal for you if your hair has even the slightest natural bend. Trust me, this will be the hardest working cut on the list for you!

#21: Sleek Long Cut with Side-Swept Bangs
I believe side-swept bangs are the most flattering bangs. They suit every face shape. They grow out better than any other bangs. They add softness to long straight hair that needs it. This haircut demonstrates this perfectly as the bangs blend into the layers so smoothly that it all just has this flow front to back. The shine and texture of the hair tells me this is hair that has been cared for, which is all you need for a cut this simple to feel special. If you’re considering bangs or are hesitant about getting bangs, this is exactly the kind of cut I would put you in.

#22: Softly Layered Cut with Face-Framing Bangs
This cut is elevated with this root-to-end color transition, and while the combination of dark roots and light ends may look good on paper, it gives the layers the added depth that would normally need a curling iron, and the face-framing bangs are the icing on the cake. The soft waves are just right so it doesn’t look stiff, and that’s the thing that a lot of people at home get wrong. If you have any natural wave in your hair at all, you’re already halfway there.

#23: Textured Copper Shag with Soft Bangs
Copper hair color typically brings out some of the best features of a layered shag cut. When combined with the shag, the warmth in the color stands out. I love the elevated look a shag cut gives due to the added volume. I also love how a little extra volume at the crown can lift the cut as a whole. It prevents the shag from looking flat or outdated. With bangs, a push-to-the-side style is always a great option on those days when you don’t feel like dealing with them, and I think it’s a good feature to consider when deciding what type of bangs to get.

#24: Modern Long Layered Cut with Soft Face-Framing Bangs
The shine in the hair is almost distracting as the face-framing bangs fall in a very intentional manner, indicating that the cut was done by a stylist who understands the dynamics of hair movement, and not just how it looks for a still shot. The subtle layers are enough to keep length feeling fresh instead of thick and heavy, which is always the aim for long hair. This is the cut for someone who loves their length and won’t let it go, but knows something needs to be done to keep it from looking like “just long hair”. The bangs are that something.

#25: Modern Textured Cut with Wispy Bangs
The layering in this haircut is well done, as they fall through the mid-lengths and ends to create a movement effect without losing shape, and the wispy bangs give a youthful touch without trying too hard. This is a perfect example of a medium-length cut that looks good at medium length, which is obvious, but believe me, a lot of cuts need to be longer or shorter to look their best, while this one is spot on. The undone look of the texture is easy to achieve with a texturing spray and a quick 90 seconds of scrunching.

#26: Dynamic Layered Cut with Soft Curtain Bangs
I really wish more people would try the deep burgundy color with curtain bangs because it is just gorgeous. Curtain bangs are center parted and frame the face in both a retro and modern way. The layered cut provides movement to the hair’s natural waves. Since layers provide movement, you will not be obligated to curl your hair to style the cut. Bangs will need to be trimmed regularly because they will be non-negotiable. However, the rest of the cut is very easy to manage as it grows out.

#27: Long Layered Cut with Soft Curtain Bangs
There’s something about straight hair with curtain bangs that I can’t quite put my finger on, but it really gives off that ‘effortlessly put together’ look. I’d say this is the most popular look among all my clients, and the bangs being the perfect length to blend into layers is also what makes this look so perfect. The medium density means less product for a polished look, and the layers add dimension at the right length to keep the eye from being pulled down. If you want curtain bangs but don’t want to spend a ton of time styling them, these longer versions are definitely the way to go compared to shorter bangs.

#28: Warm Auburn Waves with Textured Bangs
The warm auburn is such a stunning color, and it has a lot of dimension. It looks great in all kinds of lighting. I really enjoy the look of long waves and bangs. It has a romantic feel, and the vintage vibe is amazing! You definitely don’t see styles like these often! Bangs are also cut a bit longer so that they can be swiped to the side. Or if you want to wear them down, you can do that too. It’s such a good option if you are going for a fringe. If your hair tends to be a bit frizzy, apply some anti-frizz serum to the mid-lengths of your hair. That way the waves look intentional and not messy.
