50 Flattering Hair Cuts for Older Women That Prove Style Only Gets Better With Age

When it comes to platinum hair, it used to be something that was considered a little out there, and something grandma’s hairdresser would do on a Saturday morning. But now it is becoming my most requested color. I actually think it’s a color that older women can pull off the best. No one really wants to say it, but the color and cuts are definitely done to ‘fight the gray’ and can be so much more aging than just accepting it. I did a cut last year on a client who had been a medium brown for like, twenty years, and when I finally got to take her silver she looked so good and I was so jealous. Her husband literally asked her if she had a facelift because she got some beautiful work done… just kidding, she hadn’t. She just stopped hiding her beauty and I was able to do a cut with some shape. People are finally starting to loosen up and realize that age is irrelevant, and a good haircut is the best accessory. I have so many opinions on the styles I’ve chosen for women who have been around long enough to figure out what they want, and I have a lot of opinions on every single one of them.

Short feathered silver crop with wispy layered top

#1: Feathered Silver Crop with Wispy Top Layers

The combination of a fresh cut and all silver hair is fab. It really looks effortless, but it takes total confidence. The hair on the side stays closer to the head and the hair on top is more voluminous and is cut in such a way that the front pieces provide lift to the entire style and frame her face to feature highlight her best attributes. Short haircuts should focus on getting out of your face and this is a perfect example. It’s a wash and go style, though it may need a light hold hairspray on the bottom for a day you want some more style. The most you’re going to need to do is wash and finger style and you can get on with your day.

Long warm brunette layers with flipped face-framing

#2 Warm Brunette Long Layers with Flipped Face Frame

I like this because I stand by the belief that people should never have to cut their hair short based on an age expectation. The layers here are stunning, starting from the chin and getting longer towards the back, which makes the cut feel effortless as opposed to just hanging there like a mop. The warm brunette color is rich and is a nice compliment to her skin. The color also does not have highlights, but it looks beautiful. The outward flipping face framing pieces really do open the whole look up. A few years ago I remember having a client for a long hair cutting consultation and her daughter said it was “time” for her to do it. after talking for a bit, we decided to just clean up the layers a bit and add a face frame. A week later she texted me and said she felt like herself again and honestly, that’s the goal for any haircut.

Spiky textured pixie in natural salt and pepper

#3 Spiky Salt and Pepper Textured Pixie

I love pixie cuts because they look like a busy person who doesn’t take the time to style their hair in the morning. This cut certainly gives me that impression. The salt and pepper color of the hair is completely natural. The mix of dark and light strands gives the overall look an added dimension that would look artificial if you tried to use hair dye to replicate it. The choppy top is modern and edgy. The cut doesn’t go so far as trying to be effortless but you can tell a lot of thought went into it. With just a small amount of matte styling wax, you can easily get the look. Rub the wax into the palms of your hands and then run your fingers through the top of your hair. Your hair should be damp for the best results. In 20 seconds you will be ready to go!

Long black layered hair with soft face-framing pieces

#4 Classic Long Black Layers with Soft Curtain Frame

Few things capture the quiet beauty of long, shiny black hair, and when it looks this good, age is irrelevant. Long and healthy hair is always attractive. The long framing layers that flip away from the face are also gorgeous. This is a look that most people have to work hard to achieve with round brushes and lots of effort. I want to speak about the upkeep of this hairstyle. Keeping black hair glossy and shiny like this requires shine serum on the ends and mid-lengths every time you style your hair, and the payoff is worth it. Very few things are better than well-kept dark hair shining in the light.

Tapered silver pixie with textured piecey top layers

#5 Tapered Silver Pixie with Piecey Top

There is no denying that this haircut has been planned. The tapering at the back and sides is done nicely and is not so harsh that it loses its femininity. The chopped ends give her the editorial look that so many women in her age bracket don’t understand they are missing. It’s a shame so many do not understand that light plays beautifully on texturized styles in a way that it doesn’t with single toned dark hair. The way this cut accentuates her bone structure is amazing! She definitely has confidence in her features to go this short, and it really pays off!

Wavy silver blonde bob with tousled volume and lift

#6 Wavy Silver Blonde Bob with Tousled Volume

This look works because she’s not trying to look younger or older, she is simply herself. We love the hair. The warmth under the silver blonde is a nice touch because it gives depth to the color rather than it being icy. The waves are big and loose and she looks like she has good volume at the roots and crown where it’s needed most. As hair gets finer with age getting volume at the roots becomes absolutely essential and I can tell someone either back combed at the crown or used a root clip to blow dry for that lift. She also has the right amount of silvery mess to keep the bob from feeling set and too precious.

Highlighted chin-length bob with soft swept fringe

#7 Highlighted Chin-Length Bob with Swept Fringe

I could do this style on five different persons and adjust for their individual hair textures/face shapes. And yes, this photo is a good example of how adaptable this style is. The way the highlights have been done here is great, because they keep the face framing pieces light, and the base color is natural enough so you don’t have to feel like you have to maintain a second job. The swept fringe is the perfect length to blend into the rest of the haircut, but still be long enough to function as a bang. The right length is what makes the difference between loving your bangs and growing them out for the fifth time. This bob is versatile enough to wear to a Tuesday morning meeting or a Saturday night dinner, without having to change anything.

Long dark brunette waves with warm balayage ribbons

#8 Long Dark Waves with Warm Balayage Ribbons

With the latest long hair Balayage trends, each lighter piece seems to have grown there naturally, which is of course the whole point of Balayage, but few colorists have painted as well as this one. The placement is really good. There are lighter pieces around the face and through the ends but enough darkness left at the root and mid-shaft so it doesn’t look traditional highlighted. The waves look big and loose where they look effortless. With this length of hair, this relaxed wave pattern makes everything look like it isn’t polished or done. This style is definitely for someone who doesn’t mind spending the time, but their goal is for it to look effortless and that is very specific and somewhat contradictory, but when you fit that description, it really shows.

Tousled chin-length blonde shag with beachy texture

#9 Tousled Blonde Shag with Beachy Movement

I think many women have struggles speaking up about what they want done to their hair, but easily appreciate a cut’s simple sophistication. This is a shag cut, yet nothing like the heavy curtain-bang cuts from the 70’s. This is modern and lightweight with layers that flip in every direction like she’s just stepped out of a convertible. The blonde looks dimensional and expensive so it doesn’t look like just bleach. The darker roots provide a lived-in look that ages better than a single process color. Sea salt spray will be your best friend if you have fine hair and want this look, it gives fine hair grip and texture without the weight.

Polished white chin-length bob with a soft wave

#10 Polished White Chin-Length Bob with Soft Wave

It is impressive to see such a clean, white bob. Either the lady has been lucky enough to have her hair go white instead of yellow or she has been using a purple shampoo and conditioner combo constantly. The end soft waves also add a more free feeling to the hair and avoid it feeling too structured and matronly. The chin length cut is also one of those universally nice lengths. It works on almost all face shapes because it gives a good frame without cutting the face at an unflattering place. I had a client who was almost this exact length and she said she got more compliments now at sixty eight than she did at thirty and I believed her because she looked fabulous every time she came in.

Layered medium brunette shag with warm face-framing

#11 Layered Brunette Shag with Face-Framing Warmth

I love the contagious energy this cut has! The layers are everywhere: from the crown to the ends to the face. Rather than make the hair look thin or choppy, they create a wonderful fullness that radiates outwards. The warmth in the color is really nice and the face-framing layers soften, lighten, lift, and brighten everything to keep it from looking muddy and flat. This is especially important for brown hair because it can read one-dimensional in photos if the colorist isn’t careful. If I was to style this, I’d use a diffuser and some volumizing mousse and let the layers do the work.

Dimensional blonde lob with soft curtain-parted layers

#12 Dimensional Blonde Lob with Curtain Part

This color is great because the blend of different tones is seamless. With the sun-kissed look, the blended shades are even more striking. The collarbone length lob is perfect because the hair’s weight makes it swing beautifully. Many women who come in with pictures of blonde hair don’t realize they actually want a similar color, but less bright with more depth and dimension. This bob is a perfect example of good use of highlights and lowlights. Don’t forget to ask your colorist for a root shadow. You’re not going to have to deal with a harsh line of regrowth at four weeks. That alone will give you an extra month between appointments and save you more money over the year than you think.

Bouncy medium layers with caramel highlights and flip

#13 Bouncy Caramel Highlighted Layers with Flipped Ends

What an amazing look!! The ends that are flipped up give a lovely warming feeling and stay away from costume vibes. The mid-length caramel highlights warm her complexion nicely. She has a haircut that has a lot of good movement, and from the photo, it seems like she shook her head and everything just fell into place. The layers are obviously concentrated on the underside of the cut, and this is good because if you layer too high on thick hair you get unwanted poof on the sides. The stylist made a great decision about the medium-barrel curls and alternating the direction of the curls; this is such a minor technique change that makes a huge difference.

Chin-length layered brown bob with wispy side fringe

#14 Chin-Length Layered Bob with Soft Fringe

Many people don’t understand chin-length bobs. Hair does not have to be one length. Just having a thick curtain of hair does not add to your features it only takes away from them. With this example, you can appreciate the fact that someone did some rough cutting through the layers around the face, so the bob has a natural inward curve that you don’t have to fight to achieve every morning. There was a time I had a client bring a similar style from a Japanese hair magazine and when I asked her about it, she said, “It seems like her hair decided to behave.” That’s pretty much spot on. The wispy fringe is also doing some clever work here as it breaks up the expanse of the forehead and without going full bangs, which is a conversation I feel like I have at least three times a week because so many women want bangs until they realize they have to maintain them. All you need to achieve this is a rounded brush and about five minutes of drying time and you are ready to go.

Long wavy brunette hair with caramel balayage highlights

#15 Rich Brunette Long Waves with Caramel Balayage

I can already imagine some of the stains of what they will say, “That’s a lot of hair to maintain at that age.” For those people, I would definitely appreciate it if they keep quiet. Well maintained, long hair that is cut with good structure looks gorgeous on women in their fifties and sixties. With this particular balayage, the placement is designed so that the root appears lighter than one would expect with a younger client. This means she doesn’t have to go to the salon every eight weeks for a touch up. There are some face framing pieces that bring the warmth forward and the layering starts just below her collarbone. Meaning she has movement without sacrificing length, which I can tell is important to her. If you’re going to keep your hair this long, a deep conditioning mask is going to be necessary at least once a week. Grey and colored strands can dry out much faster than you’d expect.

Salt and pepper chin-length bob with inward curve

#16 Salt and Pepper Bob with Gentle Curve

I admire women going through the grey transition for not resorting to foils every six weeks. This salt and pepper look is gorgeous! The darker strands framing the face offer nice contrast, and the grey at the temples and top is brilliant where it’s needed most. The bob is as easy as it gets with that ever so slight round-brush flick at the ends. There is nothing on trend about this cut and that is a compliment because in five years it’s going to look just as amazing, and that kind of staying power is underrated.

Curly silver pixie with natural volume and texture

#17 Curly Silver Pixie with Natural Texture

Over the years, I’ve had many clients with curly hair who have been straightening their hair for a long time, but have now realized that their natural hair can be an asset. This is a perfect silver pixie cut to exemplify how fun it is to let the curls out. You can’t get that style from a prayer and a flat iron, it’s European! The cut is clever because it’s not too short on the sides where it looks disconnected from the curls on top, but there is just the right amount of length to create shape in the hair pattern instead of just letting it frizz out. As hair turns grey and silver, the texture becomes coarser which is a gift because when hair is curly, having a coarser texture helps the hair hold its shape better. The routine for curls is super simple! All you need to do is use a little curl cream, scrunch it in while it’s still damp, and leave it.

Dark short bob tapered at the nape with soft texture

#18 Effortless Dark Bob with Tapered Nape

I like the neatness of this cut without it looking rigid. Because the back tapers to the nape, there’s no bulk at the back of the neck. The top is long enough and has enough mobility to not look too harsh. It’s the type of haircut where people say you look great but can’t seem to figure out why, which, in my opinion, is the best compliment a haircut can receive. The untouched dark hair is something I appreciate. It has not been highlighted or balayaged, just healthy hair with a good cut and shape. Sometimes it is true that less is more.

Short warm highlighted bob with side-swept bangs

#19 Warm Highlighted Bob with Side-Swept Bangs

To begin, this classic bob haircut is a prime example of good construction, plus bob haircuts always provide a nice, timeless, classic look that will never really go out of style. The highlights were really done for a more natural, less stripe like dimension. My guess is the stylist was more thoughtful about the sitting of the highlights, rather than just taking the foil to the whole thing in that area. The bang length is perfect enough to tuck behind the ear. These small details are key in personalizing a haircut to move it away from just being a picture of a style. The cut length finishing just above the jaw line is doing a lot for the face shape, especially on a rounder face – more than contouring would do.

Warm blonde shoulder-length hair with soft body waves

#20 Warm Blonde Shoulder-Length Waves with Body

Warm blonde is a perfect hair color for women over fifty. The color is warm enough to brighten skin tones while not making someone look washed out. This length is perfect because it looks nice in a ponytail, bun, or just down. This style is good for someone who didn’t spend a whole day styling their hair. I suggest that you loosely braid your hair and leave the braid in overnight so it looks messy. This is the hair-equivalent of a white t-shirt because it works without having to put a lot of thought into it.

White pixie swept back with volume at crown

#21 Swept-Back White Pixie with Volume at the Crown

Some women prefer older styles which are marked by a slicked back and sprayed down look. However, this particular hairstyle goes against that very idea. The crown creates a lot of character and volumetric presence to the hairstyle whilst the narrowing lateral sections are just enough to maintain an extreme look. Naturally bright white hair is much more luminous than any artificially produced shade and women having grey hair should not try to cover up but rather embrace this. The style won’t need much if any maintenance throughout the day, the cut does all the work.

Medium layered dark brown cut with soft curtain bangs

#22 Layered Brunette Medium Cut with Curtain Bangs

Curtain bangs are very versatile, and the look you achieve largely comes from the stylist’s skill and techniques. Some people prefer the bangs to sit heavier across the forehead and other people like the bangs to be more “feathered” so they are cut at an angle and tapered. In this case the bangs are softly blended into the layers framing the face. The cut looks a bit lighter and softer even though the hair color is dark because the mid layers look good with the right amount of bulk removed to create a soft bounce at the ends. One thing I would suggest if you plan on bringing this picture to your stylist is to tell them to cut the bangs dry. The bangs can be deceptive about how far they will shrink up.

Sleek dark brown lob with slight inward bend at ends

#23 Sleek Dark Chocolate Lob with Subtle Bend

This cut demonstrates that minimal effort can sometimes have maximal payoff. It’s a lob with a little more length in the front, barely bent in the back, and a dark chocolaty rich variation so that it doesn’t look too box dyed. I’ve noticed many women in their forties and fifties shying away from this dark of a color, but with a warm shade and softer cut, darker hair is more appropriate than lighter hair. The middle part works here and she has the face for it, but for a wider forehead or rounder face, it’s just a matter of shifting it slightly off-center for a more balanced look to the meticulous styling.

Short silver pixie with lavender tint and side sweep

#24 Lavender-Tinted Silver Pixie with Side Sweep

I thought I was being pranked last summer when three of my clients asked for lavender tints during the same month. I had to give the trend some credit for working with silver and gray hairs. With these colors, you don’t have to struggle to apply a full pigment to resistant strands, you just lay a sheer wash over their lighter hair. This is the kind of bold hair that at any age is great, because it’s fun without being overly costume-like. The pixie itself is generous. It’s not too tightly cropped anywhere and there’s enough length on top to sweep to the side and feel feminine. The trick with any fashion color on mature hair is that between salon visits, a depositing conditioner is essential for maintenance. It will fade, but that’s not a flaw; that’s just what semi-permanent color does. Because of that, I suggest a weekly shower refresh to keep it looking interesting instead of muddy.

Feathered ash blonde shag with face-framing layers

#25 Feathered Shag with Ash Blonde Dimension

It seems like the shag style comes back into fashion every couple of years. People act as if they’re seeing this style for the first time, but this look has *never* left the chairs of the stylists that work with women over fifty. Salons will always have a place for shag styles. I look at this style and I feel happy because the layering is just the right amount to create movement in the style without looking like it has been over-thinned. The color is good too. The ashy blonde with dark pieces woven through is going to grow out so much nicer than a house guest that shows up every three weeks. I used to be hesitant about shags with fine hair because it was believed that it made hair look thinner, but when it was styled along with the longer more layered cut and just finely feathered, it actually made the hair look thicker than whatever state it was in before. This is one of those styles that photographs well especially when the movement is going on.

Textured Platinum Pixie with Playful Layers

#26 Textured Platinum Pixie with Playful Layers

I wish my clients would try more fun hairstyles! This cut helps create an exciting, fresh new look! The layers add so much volume and texture to the hair, and even fine limp hair can look fuller! The great thing about this look is that It’s so easy to maintain. Just a bit of texturing paste and a run through with your fingers do the trick. The platinum color is stunning! However, I need to tell you that if you are not able to come in for a toner every four to five weeks, this color is going to look really dull and brassy as it’s going to need a lot of upkeep!

Beautiful Soft Wavy Shoulder-Length Cut

#27 Beautiful Soft Wavy Shoulder-Length Cut

I love that this haircut looks like you spent an hour styling it, but in reality, you probably spent 15 minutes and said a little prayer while using a 1.25 inch curling iron. The waves are totally effortless, and they look great. Hair of medium density is ideal at this length because it gives you fullness at the ends without turning into a triangle shape. If you have any natural texture or waves at all, styling this will be a breeze.

Chic Shoulder-Length Soft Waves with Warm Copper Tones

#28 Chic Shoulder-Length Soft Waves with Warm Copper Tones

This copper color is stunning. I love how warm tones look on more mature skin. It has that gorgeous inner glow quality that looks stunning. Rust does that wonderful thing of sitting perfectly between natural and “wait, did you do something different?” With a simple smart cut like this, and shoulder length with enough movement to make it modern and not overblown from 1997, you’re good to go. If you’ve been living in cool ash tones for a while, I’m begging you to try this kind of warmth. The difference is wild.

Beautiful Soft Wavy Mid-Length Cut with Subtle Layers

#29 Beautiful Soft Wavy Mid-Length Cut with Subtle Layers

A great style not only looks good from the back, or from the front, or the side, but it should also look good in the mirror at 7 AM after just getting out of bed. This haircut passes that test! There aren’t extremely obvious layers here but what’s been done is enough to create hair movement so your hair isn’t hanging flat and is moving while you walk. This hairstyle has that “I woke up like this” look and that is so difficult to achieve. I really appreciate all the effort that was put into making this look so effortless!

Chic Wavy Shoulder-Length Cut with Soft Layers

#30 Chic Wavy Shoulder-Length Cut with Soft Layers

For those of you with medium to thick hair and have been growing your hair out and want to put some direction, bring me this picture. This is what intentional looks like. These layers are not choppy, nor are they overdone. They are just there enough to let the natural wave do its thing without the whole style getting bulky. I’d likely finish this with a lightweight hair oil on the ends and call it a day because adding more product than that would ruin the whole point.

Chic Textured Bob with Warm Copper Highlights

#31 Chic Textured Bob with Warm Copper Highlights

I’m going to do another copper moment and I’m not even the slightest bit sorry. This bob has that relaxed tousled texture that gives off an air of having just come back from an adventure, and the copper highlights are woven in so they capture the light without shouting “I have highlights.” The length is also really great because it sits at that point that makes your neck looks longer and your jaw looks more defined. This one is for the fine haired gals, the texture and colour combined is going to create the illusion of about double the hair you actually have.

Stylish Warm Brown Blunt Bob with Subtle Highlights

#32 Stylish Warm Brown Blunt Bob with Subtle Highlights

I feel one of the most striking haircuts is a well done blunt bob. It has a nice clean edge which helps all the rest look sharp as well. The color is a warm brown, and the highlights are subtle enough to not make the look too severe. This is often the mistake done with blunt cuts. A color that is too dark or too one-dimensional often makes the cut look too harsh. To get this exact look at home, use a round brush to blow dry the ends under.

Chic Dark Brown Blunt Bob with Soft Bangs

#33 Chic Dark Brown Blunt Bob with Soft Bangs

These bangs are everything! They are soft and wispy, so they won’t make you panic 3 days later. You can push them to the side or let them fall and either way you look like you planned it out. The chin-length bob gives structure while the bangs give personality and they just work together. One thing to keep in mind though is if your hair has any natural waves or curls, you’ll need a small flat iron to keep the bangs from being frizzy, because that’s not the look we’re going for.

Chic Layered Cut with Face-Framing Bangs

#34 Chic Layered Cut with Face-Framing Bangs

I dubbed this one the ‘people are going to compliment you at the grocery store’ cut because it has that friendly and organized vibe that encourages people to chat. Also, the face framing highlights are double dipping, they soften the overall look and add interest, and those warm highlights through the front are perfectly positioned where the light would naturally hit your face. Those layers really give it the bounce that makes it look like you have a standing blowout appointment set up even when you definitely do not. This is a great cut to show your stylist if you wish to have a big change while keeping the length.

Chic Silver Textured Pixie Cut with Playful Highlights

#35 Chic Silver Textured Pixie Cut with Playful Highlights

This is the pixie for women who think pixies are not for them, and I mean it. The highlights and texture break the style up enough to make it feel intentional and cool, rather than extreme like many short cuts tend to feel. With the silver base and woven brighter pieces, the hair cut creates dimension and depth that is usually reserved for longer styles. If you’re considering going shorter, but are worried that it might be too plain or lackluster, this is your answer. Regular trims every four to six weeks will be necessary because an unmaintained pixie will grow out into a very undesirable style.

Sleek and Elegant Silver Bob with Subtle Movement

#36 Sleek and Elegant Silver Bob with Subtle Movement

I love a neat silver bob! This one has a lovely swing and I would bet that this is due to good weight distribution. It has been cut so as to be non-stiff and non-helmet-y and it moves like real hair is supposed to. If you are fully grey or silver this is your sign to do something daring! A purple shampoo will help keep the brightness without any yellowing.

Chic Short Silver Textured Cut with Soft Layers

#37 Chic Short Silver Textured Cut with Soft Layers

The volume created at the crown is what is making this whole cut look so good. A lot of women with fine or thinning hair think short hair means it is going to be flat and this is proof that it doesn’t, as long as your stylist knows what they are doing with layering. The silver is really modern and editoral, in my opinion it looks better than any dye job I could give you. Just be mindful that lighter colours are more prone to showing oil and product build up so a good clarifying shampoo will be your best friend.

Gorgeous Long Layered Silver Haircut with Soft Waves

#38 Gorgeous Long Layered Silver Haircut with Soft Waves

It’s about time we appreciate how good having long silver hair is because it’s not something you see very often! Most people seem to just let long hair happen to them or let the grey happen. You can tell that hair this good is intentional. It’s a great choice to start some layers below the chin because it will keep the hair from dragging down the face. It’s a mistake far too many women make as they get older. They just skip the layers and wonder why their hair looks heavy. The soft waves are just the right amount of tousled to look natural, and just polished enough to look like you care. Achieving that balance is no easy task!

Soft Textured Shoulder-Length Cut with Subtle Layers

#39 Soft Textured Shoulder-Length Cut with Subtle Layers

– I like to call this cut a “trust the process” cut. I know it might not look like a lot now, but it will enhance your face so much in person. I know the layers may seem understated in the beginning, but they give so much added softness around the face that smooths and flatters in a way that a one-length cut just wouldn’t. This is the kind of haircut that will get you compliments from people and they will have a hard time articulating why. These are my favorite kind of compliments from my clients.

Chic Soft Layered Bob with Subtle Movement

#40 Chic Soft Layered Bob with Subtle Movement

The layers starting at the chin and not tapering down much is really nice. It feels like a very dramatic layered look, but there is a nice touch of restraint. The cut definitely looks modern and sophisticated. It has the right amount of movement so it is not boring but is also not too much where you have to fight with it every morning to get it to go the right way. I think it is a mark of good style that this cut addresses the jaw/chin area without putting too much attention on it.

Chic Short Textured Pixie Cut

#41 Chic Short Textured Pixie Cut

What a great haircut! I’d like to discuss how brave one has to be to take that step! You have to present your face in full view with no hair to block it. That’s a big risk and I have a lot of respect for that. The good thing is that the texture breaks it up enough that there won’t be any harsh lines. Most people would expect the platinum to be cold and silvery, but it actually warms up her skin tone. It shouldn’t since it is the right platinum shade that warms her up. So if you’re thinking of going for this length, the most I can say is that it will feel strange for the first three days and then you’ll wonder why you hadn’t done it sooner.

Chic Silver Stacked Bob with Soft Volume

#42 Chic Silver Stacked Bob with Soft Volume

A stacked bob is a haircut that definitely shows the difference between an expert and someone who learned on YouTube. The stacking at the back creates a graduated shape that provides built-in volume at the crown, which is where most women lose volume first. This specific version has enough front length to sit more on the bob side than the pixie side, which I think is a good choice because it provides the most styling options. You can tuck it behind your ears, have it all fall forward, or do a side pin-up, and all of those looks work.

Chic Textured Short Pixie Cut with Subtle Highlights

#43 Chic Textured Short Pixie Cut with Subtle Highlights

The blending of the colors makes these pixie highlights look great – almost as if they were done by a professional. Mediocre colorists know how to make highlights look artificial. Textured cuts like this can be so low-maintenance. You can just put some mousse in when it’s wet and let it dry, and it will look styled. I have clients who switched to this style and even donated their blow dryers. They were so happy. I especially love this style on oval face shapes, but to be honest, I’ve seen it on pretty much everyone and it looks amazing.

Softly Layered Shoulder-Length Cut with Face-Framing Highlights

#44 Softly Layered Shoulder-Length Cut with Face-Framing Highlights

Those face-framing highlights look amazing as they draw attention to areas of your face you’d like to showcase. I prefer highlights to all-over color any day, especially since skin tone changes over the years. You get to choose where the lightness is, plus it’s cheaper to touch up. The soft layers are blended so well they almost look like one. That means they will grow out beautifully without the choppy, awkward stage that poorly blended layers tend to have. This cut basically looks good with little maintenance, so keep a volumizing spray close!

Elegant Softly Layered Silver Cut with Subtle Face Framing

#45 Elegant Softly Layered Silver Cut with Subtle Face Framing

While it may seem easier to go for shorter styles, this is the more mature version of hair that I wish women would do more often. Long hair can still look fresh, and there are many options for styling and layering. Silver hair is beautiful and should be celebrated, and women need to get the right kind of layers so it doesn’t look like they’re just keeping hair long to avoid making decisions. The barely there face framing is doing a lot; it’s shaping and directing the cut instead of having all the hair fall to one length. If this is your texture, this length can go limp quickly so consider a good root lifting spray if you want added volume.

Elegant Mid-Length Voluminous Cut with Soft Face Framing

#46 Elegant Mid-Length Voluminous Cut with Soft Face Framing

The volume in this case is intentional and is not a blowout that will deflate by lunch; it is part of the architectural detail of the cut. When layers are appropriately placed at the crown and through the mid-lengths, you create this type of body and volume that is self sustaining throughout the day, and that is what I see here. The face framing pieces are long enough to blend when you pull your hair back, and this is more importance than most people assume because not every cut looks good in a ponytail, and at times you do need that. If you wanted to add highlights, a few pieces around the face and through the top would give it even more life without having to go full color.

Chic Textured Short Bob

#47 Chic Textured Short Bob

The short bob hairstyle provides an effortless French_girl_ vibe; like she just rolled out of bed , but looks fabulously stylish. However, achieving the Parisian chic look is much more difficult than it appears. The upkeep of her platinum color is also a work of art. The brightness and cleanliness screams that , the person maintaining her color , really knows how to work a toner. For the finish to hold some texture, the cut needs to be layered and the length needs to be just modern enough to not look dated when you want to grab a mini curling wand and add a little bend.

Modern Textured Lob with Subtle Highlights

#48 Modern Textured Lob with Subtle Highlights

The lob is one of those styles that seems simple enough until you try to replicate it on your own. Pulling off the lob versus just ending up with mid-length hair is all in the craftsmanship. This one has a bit of that effortless texture so it doesn’t read like a news anchor haircut. And I mean that in a good way, news anchor hair is good, just a little dated. The balayage highlights are doing so much for her fine hair, creating visual density that you’d never guess was missing. If you appreciate versatility, this is a great option because you can wear it straight or wavy, and do half-up looks, and it’ll look intentional every time.

Elegant Silver Blunt Bob with Soft Layers

#49 Elegant Silver Blunt Bob with Soft Layers

While it may sound contradictory, a blunt bob with soft layers shows true skill in haircutting. The perimeter stays blunt and clean which contributes to a polished, expensive look. The beauty of interiors is that with just the right amount of layering, the hair moves without looking solid. This length is stunning with silver because the variations in tone are fully visible in the strands. Natural grey hair consists of many silvers and whites which are on display. A good cut shows those off instead of hiding them. This haircut will make people assume you spend much more on your hair than you actually do.

Vibrant Curly Red Shoulder-Length Cut

#50 Vibrant Curly Red Shoulder-Length Cut

I saved something am really looking forward to for last. Red and curly are such an eye-catching combination. If only red hair was more common. When asked about what hair color to pick, everyone says blonde and silver. But warm toned reds look great and even make the skin look warmer. The curl definition is amazing. If you want to style your natural curls, the trick is to use curl defining cream on wet hair and don’t touch it until it’s all dry. That’s the secret. This cut is brilliant because it allows for the stacking of curls in a controlled way. This adds volume while also achieving that no frizz look. The person who did these layers really knows what they’re doing because the proportions are spot on.
