People seem to talk about grey hair like it is bad or something you just have to “deal with.” It blows my mind a bit. Some of the most beautiful clients I have had the pleasure of working with are those women who stopped dyeing their hair and embraced their natural silver. They look completely different and you can feel the confidence shift in the energy of the haircut when clients stop trying to look twenty years younger.
There was a woman in her late forties who came to me every four weeks for as long as I had been working there to cover her greys. One day she said she was just tired of it. Not sad tired, just done. We started growing it out, and I remember when she looked in the mirror and said “why didn’t I do this ten years ago?” Moments like those are the best. The length is just about medium, and the front layers are doing what they’re meant to do, which is pulling focus and accentuating the cheekbones. If you have fine hair, this is a good option as it keeps all the density in the perimeter where you want it instead of losing it with a bunch of internal layers. I will say you will most likely need to come in every six weeks or so because blunt lines tend to grow out uneven and it loses that nice clean look pretty quickly.

This style looks net and timeless. With some bangs and soft wisps, it pulls the look together. This style is also low maintenance, and you can even pull the hair out of your face with a low bun. Thin hair is better for this look since it is aimed to be sleek and won’t poof out like thick hair. With bangs, just remember that they grow fast so get trims to keep them out of your eyes.
#3 Polished Grey Bob with Just Enough Layering
This length is chin length and good for grey hair. I love this length especially because it keeps the colour close to the face where it actually reads intentional and elegant as opposed to just grown out. The layers are almost non existent, just enough so it doesn’t look like a helmet, which is the real danger zone with blunt bobs. A round brush and blow dryer will get you this finish in about 10 minutes and honestly that’s the sweet spot for daily styling. Not effortless but close.
#4 Textured Silver Pixie with Lift at the Crown
I really love seeing women in their seventies rocking pixie cuts! This style shows a level of confidence that a lot of people don’t have. The top has some soft layers which will give you height, and height will always be flattering for rounder faces. One of the downsides to a pixie cut is that they need a lot of upkeep, so you will need to get trims every four to five weeks. The upside, however, is that your morning routine will be super quick since all you’ll need is 90 seconds and a texturizing paste, and then you’re good to go! All in all, they are quite low maintenance.

I have to be honest, I enjoy shag cuts, and this shag cut lives up to my expectations as it says “I tried a little, but not that much”. In reality, a lot of thought most certainly has gone into this. The shoulder length of hair provides enough weight to swing as you move, and if you possess any natural wave, the layers will catch it and run with it. The layers also keep it from being too heavy at the bottom. Mid length hair sneaks up on you with issues, and this shag cut fixes the problem of no one paying attention to the layers.

This haircut is for people wanting change, but maybe not wanting to commit to anything super drastic. It’s a good blend of being different and not being too long or too short. It’s casual and easy to manage framing waves that soften the face with a little fuss. Honestly, maintaining those waves will not be easy. A little bit of work will need to be put in, but I doubt it will be too big of an ask. A little sea salt spray and some air drying will do the trick, or a few minutes of spend will do the trick.
#8 Long Layers with That Hint of Lavender
Let’s talk about lavender. I’m completely obsessed with this. The way grey hair picks up fashion colors is so different than for pigmented hair. With grey, there’s an almost more beautiful translucent quality than what you see on pre-lightened blonde hair and I will die on that hill. The cut is also nice, mid length layers with just the right amount of movement, but the color really ties it all together. If you’re even a little bit interested in playing with tone in your grey, this is the picture you need to show your colourist. The layering stops it from looking costume-y and the whole thing just strikes that modern, slightly rebellious vibe in the best way.

It may appear to be a simple cut, but the craftsmanship is in the details, especially with the layering. The cut being right above the ears gives even more of a relaxed feel, especially with the top being slightly tussled. It is youthful, without trying too hard and that is a big difference. For those having longer hair and looking to take the plunge, this is a perfect transitional pixie. It isn’t overly short so you won’t feel too bare.
#10 Soft Silver Pixie That Practically Styles Itself
I don’t want to spend too long on this because the appeal is obvious: it’s a great pixie that looks effortless. The layers add volume where fine hair typically falls flat, the light grey is sleek and modern, and the texture stops it from looking overly done. A little wax on the ends to separate the pieces and you are set. The best haircuts are the ones you don’t have to think about.

I mean this in the best way possible, the most impressive part is the fringe. It visually brings the eyes closer and ties the whole look together. The fringe should stay in place with a light hold hairspray.

For someone wanting to get bangs, this is a great style to consider because they won’t be too heavy or feel too retro. These bangs are wispy, blend into the haircut, and move with you – a sure sign you’re getting a good bang cut instead of a bad one. The texturing and tousled look all around the bob gives the “I just ran my fingers through it” look, which is what a lot of people want, but very few cuts can pull off. Just a warning, bangs do require maintenance more so than any other part of a haircut. You’ll either have to do it yourself, or end up trimming them before your appointments, and honestly, I’d rather you come see me.

I was drawn to the highlights because they aren’t trying to hide the grey. They’re adding silver to give a little dimension and depth so it doesn’t look flat. It may seem like a small detail, but in some pictures and certain lighting, all grey hair can look washed out. The haircut is a classic short pixie which is easy to style, but you’ll have to get regular trims to shape so it doesn’t get muddy.
#14 A-Line Bob in Silver with Layered Bangs
I really like the A-line cuts as the longer sections in the front visually pull the eye down and help elongate the neck. The shorter back layers are modern and fresh. The bangs are soft and tend not to be annoying on days when you skip styling, plus the whole cut is super classy. I find this level of class is usually only found in women that know exactly what they want when they sit in my chair. This style works best on fine hair because defined lines are more visible without the bulk.

This haircut looks great in person and in pictures, which is rare! The waves soften the look of this haircut and offer lots of styling options. If your hair naturally has a wave or bend, this will be super easy for you. Just grab some curl defining cream, give it a little scrunch, and hit the road!

Starting at the cheekbone and sweeping back, these cuts open everything up without creating that curtain effect where your hair just hangs. Lob length is also manageable enough to pull it back when you want to, and the texture at the ends keeps it looking intentional even with second-day hair. This is one of many cuts I reccomend because it works on so many without needing a lot of customization.
#17 Medium Layers with Bangs That Soften Everything
The defining feature of this haircut is definitely the bangs. They bring a sort of balance to the hair and the layers would seem incomplete without them. The ends having the most volume makes the hair flip very nicely and a bit cheeky. You won’t even have to style your hair a whole lot With this haircut. I’d suggest regular trims to maintain the shape. The longer the layers grow out, the more uneven they’ll become. From that point all you’ll have is long hair and bangs. That’s a totally different style.

I love this one, it’s very well done. The movement in the hair is really nice. The waves look more realistic with some variation in size and some in where they fall. The layers create volume without losing length, which is always my goal with clients who want to keep their hair long, but hate that it’s flat. If your grey has warm and cool tones then a cut like this will show it off really well. The evenly spread waves will reflect light so beautifully.
#19 Clean Silver Pixie with Crown Volume
This pixie cut has clean top lift and nice texturing so it looks good overall. The silver color is bright and reflects nicely, and I think it shows off the cut nicely and is also affected by the purple shampoo which is keeping any yellow at bay. This cut will be especially flattering to heart and oval shape faces, but I have seen this pixie cut do well for a larger range of faces than expected. With short hair frequent trims are a necessity for maintenance but there is hardly any styling time.
#20 Chin-Length Grey Bob with Soft Texture
I really like chin length hair, as it sits right at the jaw and provides a good in between look as opposed to being super short or super long. The layers are cut so seamlessly that you have no idea where they start, and the added volume at the crown gives it some life without looking as if you set it on rollers. This length looks best with fine hair as it makes the density look much more than it actually is.
#21 Grey Lob with Quiet Movement
I will call this one ‘Quiet Movement’ because that is what it has. It has just the right amount of texture to keep it from looking flat, and nothing that screams, ‘I spent thirty minutes on my hair!’. The length below the chin works well here because it gives enough weight to the layers so they don’t flip out in weird directions, which is a real concern when fine hair is at this length. The grey tones look very natural and the whole thing has a put together ease that I genuinely like a lot.

Your waves and curls are beautiful! The framing layers really enhance your curl pattern. In fact, most curly hair cuts go in the opposite direction. And that volume? Incredible. The combination of silver hair and curls is fantastic, and the shine of healthy silver curls is something special. Invest in a good deep conditioner and use it weekly since curly gray hair tends to dry out, and that’s when the hair starts to lose its bounce.
#23 Grey Shag with Soft Bangs and a Lot of Personality
I am sorry, but I really can’t. It has that haircut that is just so personal to the person. The shag layers do something, the bangs are just soft enough and the mid-length means you can wear it wavy, straight or somewhere in between because it’s loose-ball deployable. The mid-length greys can really get heavy and lifeless but layered shag shags are what keeps it from being bottom heavy. It’s a cut that has great versatility and I actually would be really hyped to do this on someone.
