Well, I can say that it’s not the style, it’s the cut. The wrong haircut on children look completely different than the right one in a photograph, and not enough people understand this concept. It is also the right photographs. Children are fairly active while in different lighting conditions. They change head positions and random angles. The haircut has to survive all of these situations, and the hairstyle needs to look like it was done on purpose.
I get so excited when I discover new hair trends. I love the 25 new trends I found. There are a ton of different styles to choose from: short bobs, layered haircuts of various lengths, braids, curls, and more. I would personally love to use many of these styles on kids who come to sit in my chair. Some styles are better suited for certain kids and hair types. That’s just how it goes!
#1: The Blunt Cut That Actually Looks Expensive
I know clients will be curious about the new cut and it’s easy to understand. This is a blunt cut that sits right above the shoulders with some face framing layers. The detail in the layers makes sure it’s not one of those “oh we just chopped it” cuts. The softness around the face is a nice touch to help keep it more youthful which is a great contrast to those structured blunt cut lines. This will be SO easy to manage straight, wavy, or normally soft hair. Blunt cuts do require maintenance to keep them looking fresh which will definitely have clients booking trims more often than other styles. That’s just the trade off with cuts like this, and with a look this good, the trade off is worth it!
#2 Braided Pigtails That Actually Stay Put
Let us all take a moment to appreciate the style that will never go out of fashion: braided pigtails! It’s super pretty to see the natural braid waves and how the waves bring out more interest than braiding straight hair which would look so boring. The bangs fall perfectly to frame the face. I recommend this style for active kids a lot. It’s a style that keeps everything off their head contained and looks super nice. Most parents probably have to use some good detangling spray to take out the braids after the day is done, but it usually looks good from all the recess and sports. The pigtail braids will hold up to all of the activities really really well and still look super cute!
#3 Classic Braids with Ribbons, Because Why Not
I am going to be honest. I have a sentimental value on seeing ribbons in braids. My grandma would do this every Sunday. I felt like a PRINCESS! Pastel ribbons woven into two braids give me a really nice vibe. These braids are extremely neat which is a challenge with fine hair. Honestly, it is a skill. I always tell parents that the tension should be gentle. Little people have very sensitive scalps and we definitely do not want to create a fear of that. But as a style? Just adorable! Great for school days or really anywhere.
#4 The Wavy Little Bob That Bounces
A kid with a short bob hairstyle looks like she stepped out of a shampoo advertisement. This haircut works great for kids because their hair tends to be more fine. The light, soft waves give a lot more volume, which works great for volume. It’s also great for kids because medium length hair is prone to getting caught in food or jacket zipers, and I’ve seen that happen much too often. With this style, hair washing becomes incredibly easy, and you won’t have to spend any time styling it. The only time you’ll need to put in extra effort is if the kid has fine hair. In that case, you might need to use some texturing spray to keep the waves bouncy until the afternoon. Otherwise, you’re doing zero work to keep this style looking great.
#5 Double Buns with Those Little Loose Pieces
This is FUN. Double buns are cute on kids, but this version is cuter with the loose strands around the face. Without those strands, it could look a bit too “dance recital” but the loose pieces help keep it playful instead of strict. It works best with medium to thick hair since you need enough to actually form buns instead of having what I like to call \”sad little knots\” on the head. And if you add a little bow or clip? Chef’s kiss! Just keep in mind that those loose strands will need some tucking and adjusting throughout the day.
#6 Half Up Braid with Flowy Waves
If your child wants to look fancy and also keep their hair down, this is a great idea! A half-up braid gives an “I put in effort” look, but still lets waves flow. The hair length needs to be at least mid-back so the waves won’t get tangled into a mess by lunchtime. The waves will loosen a bit throughout the day, but that is actually fine, and still great!
#7 Curly Bob with Blunt Bangs, aka the Cutest Thing
I was amazed to see the concept of curly hair with blunt bangs come to life. It just sounded like it would be awful. The soft curls add so much personality to the bob, and the bangs help keep it grounded and cutely frame the face. But, I have to keep it real and say that this look could use some love. The face framing curls tend to shrink when they dry so that’s going to take some solid length to manage the shrinkage, and you’re going to need to book trims before the cut gets to that gross length where it’s hanging in your kid’s eyes. A curl defining cream is also going to be a must, because it will keep everything nice and bouncy and separated instead of frizzy.
#8 Textured Bob with That Easy Side Part
Effortless hairstyles seem very appealing. With the subtle side part, the hair looks stylish without being overdone, and the messy ends add character and stop it from being a plain boring bob. The style looks great on fine hair because the layers and movement create the illusion of more volume, which is a real trick. It’s really easy to keep up with this style, just run your fingers through it and go. To maintain the shape, make sure to book your trims every 6 to 8 weeks.
#9 Long and Sleek with Auburn Bangs That I Can’t Stop Staring At
Warm auburn hair is so beautiful! Especially with the blunt bangs and the framing freckes. Long and straight hair is always in style and gives so much room for different hairstyles like ponys, braids, halves, the whole deal. The bangs are going to be the big feature and are going to take a little bit of work. Kids’ bangs grow out super fast so there may be some bang trim in the future. If you are lucky enough to be dealing with hair that is thick and shiny, not much effort is needed to achieve this style. Just brush and go!

I always say that lob is the great equalizer of haircuts because they look great on almost everyone, and this one proves me right. The face framing layers, do their job directing the focus to the cheekbones and making the look intentional without being overly fussy. This is one of those cuts where the kid can literally roll out of bed and it looks great, which as a parent, is probably all you really care about to be honest. For fine hair, it gets that light airy movement that heavier hair doesn’t achieve at this length, so if your kid has thinner hair, definitely consider this one. A soft balayage would look INCREDIBLE on this cut too, just saying.
#11 Curly Bob with Layers That Actually Make Sense
When it comes to layering curly hair, it can go really good or really bad. I get excited when I see them done well because it takes skill to get layering to work with the curls instead of against them. This fabulous bob is really bouncy and full because of the layers. The length also keeps it looking stylish and is easy to manage. Curly hair can really get crazy. If your child has some curls or waves and you have never done any layering, this can be the upgrade you never knew you needed. Just add some curl refresher spray to keep it looking good.
#12 The Chin Length Textured Bob That Photographs SO Well
When I started I said some hair cuts look good in pictures. THIS ONE. The subtle chin length layers catch the light at the right angles and look ridiculously healthy and shiny!! The side sweeps create movement without looking like you tried too hard. This is ideal for finer hair as it does not weigh it down too much, and the layers create texture. I will say this is a cut that needs consistent trims because once it grows past the chin it starts to lose that shape quickly and then you’re just in awkward bob territory which nobody wants.

No judgment if your little one is attached to their length, and you just want to add some life to it, this is the move. The long layers give movement and dimension without taking away any of that length they’re so protective of, and the face framing pieces are so subtle they almost looks like they just naturally grew that way. This is an absolutely beautiful cut on straight to slightly wavy, medium density hair because you get that gentle bounce without it looking like a shag from the 70s. The only downside to long hair on kids is the maintenance because split ends are REAL, and they will show up uninvited if you’re not staying on top of trims.

I love how the hair at the roots has a soft volume that looks natural. It’s like the hair just decided to have some body, and this hair just went along with it. I always suggest shoulder length hair with nice soft waves and a few subtle layers, because it’s universally flattering and looks good with all different hair types and textures. Fine hair really thrives with this look because this length is short enough to not get weighed down, but is long enough to have volume. With this cut, it’s the best case scenario when the waves are relaxed enough that even if they fall out a bit during the day it still looks nice. That really is the mark of a great cut.

I love the long, straight hair and blunt bangs combo; it’s so striking and totally main character energy. The way straight hair that has a nice, glossy finish is sooo pretty, especially when you have the thickness to have it not look wispy at the ends. To keep long hair this healthy and sleek definitely takes a lot of work, and I would recommend touch-ups with a flat iron and consistent care to the bangs. But the work is totally worth it!

The waves also do a lot of work for this look so if your kids hair is wavy this will be a super easy look to achieve. If you are going to do this look a lot, a nice spray is a great way to keep the waves looking great and also keep them hydrated.

I always wonder when the bob hairstyle will start to get boring, but then someone walks through the door with a version like THIS and reminds me why the bob’s have lasted so long. The length at the shoulders with those soft, rounded framing layers gives just the right amount of personality. And the way the hair falls with that natural shine tells me the hair is in GREAT condition, which is half the battle. This is the hairstyle I recommend to people when they say they want something cute, but don’t have time for styling in the morning, because with this cut, you really can just brush and go. Keeping it looking fresh may require regular trims, but the price you pay for that is worth how simple this hairstyle makes your life every day.
#19 Defined Curls on a Lob That I’m Personally Obsessed With
Start letting your child embrace their natural curls! One great option for kids with natural curls is to get a long bob haircut with loosely defined curls. A curly lob will need to be washed, moisturized, and conditioned a few times a week, especially if your child does sports. Because of the hair getting dirty from the sport, kids will feel like they are stuck in a never ending cycle of washing their hair which can be really annoying. I can tell this cut takes effort because it needs product and a diffusing to get a lived in look. If you can spend an extra three minutes in the morning, this shag on a kid is a huge payoff.

I adore this hair! It is so long and healthy and so shiny! It does look like it is all one length. The long layers and pieces that frame the face give the cut movement and kind of flow without losing all of the beauty that length provides. That light auburn color is amazing. It is so nice how it catches the *light* at each cut. It looks very autumn, especially with the soft bangs. From my experience with straight fine hair, it looks good at this length because the hair won’t be flat. The ends will look full and healthy. The bangs won’t look extreme when growing out, and let’s be honest, that’s always a possibility!

I love the volume in the front of this high bun on naturally curly hair! The loose curls mixed with the updo frame her face so effortlessly. Of course, updos with curly hair take a lot of work and patience. This look is perfect for when your curls just won’t cooperate and you need a backup style! With little kids, the biggest trick is not to pull the hair up too tight or else they will complain of a headache. You will definitely want to keep an anti-frizz spray handy to tame those annoying little fly-aways. I love how this style is casual enough for a Tuesday, but formal enough to be a flower girl style!

I love how the layers in this cut give fine hair some fullness; that’s not easy to do! The stylist really knew what they were doing. The medium length and soft waves give that “my hair just does this” look, which is a holy grail for any age. The right layers can take fine hair from flat and boring to full and bouncy, and this is the perfect example. The versatility is awesome too, you can wear it wavy and relaxed, or smooth it out for a more polished look, and it works both ways without feeling like a totally different haircut!
#25 Curly Bob with Fringed Bangs That I Want for Myself
This is probably my favorite look from the whole collection and I am not sorry about it. The soft curly bob strikes the perfect balance between playful and chic. The definition of the curls is great and they look child-like, not like an adult who just walked into the salon. I will admit that the bangs are a commitment because they could end up sticking straight up in the morning but as long as you have some water and a good scrunch that should fix it. The overall shape is really flattering and because it’s shoulder length, everything is super manageable.
