The right layers do all the work for you.

The layers are soft and flattering around the face. The shoulder length keeps the look modern. This bob caters to the person who wants to look polished but doesn’t want to spend twenty minutes with a round brush every morning. A clean blunt bob is really doing it for me and this is a great example. The chin line is doing all the work, emphasizing the jaw and cheekbone area and creating such an intentional look. If your hair is more cooperative, a little smoothing serum will do the trick and you will have such a clean and polished look with minimal effort.

I love this cut! There’s so much material for me to work with. The texture on top and their aggressive contrasts on the sides are really bold. Maintenance for this haircut is actually not as high as it looks. With a little wax to define the shape, you’re all set! As for the undercut, you’ll need to do some maintenance. Depending on how fast your hair grows, that will be cleanups every 3-4 weeks. But don’t worry about that, as this cut will save you a lot of styling time overall. If you want to go shorter but you don’t want it to feel like a serious cut, this is a great option!
#8 Side-Swept Pixie That Keeps Things Feminine
I appreciate the concern. The side-swept bangs do give a softer look, and the length around the jaw area softens the look as well. The added texture keeps the style looking fresh, and the bangs can be worn in a variety of styles. The bangs will require maintenance so keep that in mind. A trim every 4-5 weeks will do, as the bob will start to chop and lose shape after that. Overall, it looks great.
#9 Tousled Curly Pixie with a Tapered Back
This cut has been perfect for people who want to go short but are worried about looking too sharp or masculine in a Daenerys Targaryen way. The soft curls on top add personality and movement and the tapered sides and back keep everything structured. The balance is there. This taper is ideal for thicker hair because it removes the bulk where it’s unwanted and keeps the volume where it’s needed. Use a lightweight styling cream to keep the curls soft and defined without crunch. Because of the height on top, I think this is one of the most flattering short cuts for rounder face shapes.

Let us talk about this hairstyle with blunt bangs. It takes some commitment and not everyone will pull it off. There is also frequent maintenance as you have to get the bangs trimmed every couple of weeks. It can be annoying if you have a cowlick near your forehead, but it’s worth it for some people. The warm, rich auburn shade gives the hair a nice dimension. The bob cut with straight bangs is also chic and very Parisian. If you know how to style and are used to bangs, this will look amazing on you.
#11 Pixie with Soft Highlights That Add Dimension
The pixie cut is complemented by the wonderful highlights. If it was one solid color, the cut wouldn’t be as interesting. I also really like the longer fringe because that means there’s more hair to play with and you get to decide between a side or a front sweep depending on your mood. The style also gives you that ‘not trying too hard’ look, and it should be a bit messy so a little product should do the trick. The lived in and messy look is awesome.
#12 Wavy Bob with Highlights That Catch Light
Bobs like this one look amazing! I believe this is because of the soft waves and the slight highlights which both help to create dimension. This style also helps the hair appear thicker and healthier than it is. It gives off an effortless vibe, while still looking good. The hair length sitting right at the shoulder is also great as it makes it easy to pull back, and the looser waves look like you put less effort into the style like you just finished an hour of curling session. If you want to add waves to your hair that do not already have them, the quickest method is to curl the front strands with a curling wand.
#13 Cropped and Wavy with a Lot of Personality
Wavy short hairstyles can look effortless and relaxed. Sometimes it even looks like you just rolled out of bed and it’s that nice. The number of layers with short wavy hairstyles is the best part. Layers help give shape and structure without pinning the waves down. In my opinion, this hairstyle looks great in photos but even better in real life. I really don’t care what looks best on social media, it’s about what is best in real life. This look is not high maintenance, though you may need a bit of product from day to day to keep waves defined.
#14 Short Crop with Volume Where It Counts
What I like about the lift at the crown is that it gives you height in a way that isn’t obvious you are trying to get height. The shape is flattering, and the top texture does most of the work. If your hair is flat on top, this cut can change your whole face. It opens everything up. It’s a simple style, and you probably won’t fuss with it too much. You’ll probably want a little texturising spray, or a light hold product, to get that tousled look, but it’s a quick style.
#15 Asymmetrical Bob with Just Enough Edge
I really like asymmetrical bobs because the small length differences give the style a contemporary look that a standard bob just doesn’t capture. This bob keeps it pretty understated though, the difference between the sides is just right to be interesting, while not so extreme that it looks costumy. The layers create movement, plus the length overall is very easy to wear. I do think this is a cut that requires your regular maintenance though, because if you let it go too far it starts looking more accidentally asymmetrical than intentional so you have to be really on top of your trims.
#16 Short Layered Cut That Feels Easy and Fun
This haircut is so nice because of how much movement and flow it creates. The soft layers and the face-framing layers add textures to the cut. I think this is a great option for someone who wants a youthful and effortless cut but doesn’t want to go too short. It will give you enough length to style it, but it won’t be heavy. All you need is a little product to define the ends.
#17 Modern Lob with Soft Waves
This is a beautiful example of a classic lob style. The soft waves create body and movement to the style and the length is perfect for that fresh feel without losing too much hair. The layering will also help with volume quite a bit. Additionally, this is a great cut to start with if you plan to go shorter down the line.
#18 Textured Bob with Highlights That Pop
This bob haircut looks healthy and that is half of the battle with any haircut. It doesn’t matter how well the shape is done, if the hair looks tired, it brings it down. The highlights are also placed beautifully, adding brightness around the face and dimension through the mid lengths and they don’t look stripey or overdone. The length is hitting right above the shoulders which I think is one of the most universally flattering lengths for a bob. If you have got medium density hair and want something that looks polished with minimal effort and doesn’t require a blowout every morning, this is a solid option.
#19 Soft Bob with Bangs That Make It
First let’s praise the bangs! I appreciate how they aren’t too thick so there’s wispy-ness to them which makes it feel more light and approachable, not as harsh. The bob has nice subtle layering which gives a bit of movement to the overall look which is soft and airy. This type of soft bang looks gorgeous in softening an angular jaw. Those bangs will need to be trimmed fairly regularly and I always tell my clients with bangs that they are kind of signing up for a mini appointment on top of their regular cuts!
#20 Textured Short Cut with Sweep and Color
This style is great as the side-swept bangs and textured layers work really well together. I like how intentional the whole cut looks. It really stands out and avoids that messy and unrefined look. Overall the length of the hair is short enough that it feels rather bold but also long enough to still provide some versatility with styling. I think this works really well with the color as it adds depth and further enhances the texture. For those who want to feel a bit edgy but not go to the extreme of a full pixie cut, this is a great haircut.
#21 Lob with Wispy Bangs and Effortless Texture
I love the combination of a lob and wispy bangs since they soften everything. A lob is a good length for everyday wear and the bangs add some personality. The loose waves look casual enough to suit most occasions. If your hair is really straight, you will need to use a curling wand for the waves, or you could braid your hair damp the night before. The extra work is not as much as it seems. The bangs will need to be cut regularly, but they do a great job of framing the face, so the upkeep is totally worth it.

If you’re planning to cut your hair short and you have natural curls, I highly recommend this cut, since the curls will do all the talking! The fantastic short length and defined curl pattern mean you won’t have to deal with weight pulling your curls down, or creating that triangular shape that always happens when curly hair gets too long without the right layers. With this cut, you’ll want to use a quality curl-enhancing product. On the other hand, if your hair is fine and lacks a strong natural curl, this look might not be as “big” so it would be good to have a realistic conversation with your stylist.

Short haircuts can definitely be low maintenance and this particular one is a good example of that. The soft edges that frame the face are not overly intense and the slight texture at crown keeps the style from being too plain and also too complicated. The hairstyle has a polished look that emphasizes the face, which it should. Many short haircuts seem to compete with the features of the face, but this cut does the opposite. The style will wash and go, but will require regular maintenance in the form of precision cuts every few weeks to keep the shape.
#24 Choppy Bob with Layers That Move
This bob haircut has a specific choppy texture that adds an edgy, cool-girl aesthetic. The length, just below the chin, is a sweet spot for this type of bob. The layers add great movement and help the hair fall beautifully into place, especially if you have some natural waves. Even straight hair can benefit from this, as the shape from the layers helps the hair to look good and interesting. I would suggest to just rough dry the ends with your fingers (not with a brush) and let the hair fall where it wants to. You’ll want to avoid any sort of bristle finish to the look. If you try to make it too polished, it would actually be counterproductive to the style.

This cut makes me so happy! The curls look so defined and bouncy. There’s so much life in the hair. For people with thick, curly hair, bobs like these are so good because they give you shape but will not let the weight get out of control. The length being just above the shoulder looks so good because it allows the curls to spring up instead of too much. I also want to be honest in saying that if your hair is finer, and you want to have this much volume and curl definition, it’s going to be hard to achieve that naturally. You may be disappointed looking at the photo and then looking at the hair in the mirror.
#26 Curly Bob with Highlights That Work with the Curls
I like the design intention in the highlighting that is meant to enhance the curl pattern rather than fight against it, and that demonstrates a true colorist with the skill to work with curly hair. Overall the shape is nice and refined while still not looking too stiff, and the flattering length that ends at the jaw is great. For medium to thick hair this is an amazing option. There will be some styling required on a daily basis to get the look of these curls defined, and there will be some trial and error with different scrunching techniques, curl-type specific products, and curl-defining products, but after some time it will be a habit to use your system.
#27: Layered Pixie with Soft Texture and Room to Play
I think this pixie is inviting and will suit someone who is a bit pixie curious but a little scared it might feel too harsh. The layering creates depth and adds a playful texture without looking messy and just generally looks like nice hair. With the way the cut looks, I think it will be really fun with color like a soft pastel or multi-dimensional blonde. There are so many layers for the color to catch and bring the whole look to life. Shorter lengths means more regular trims, but on the flip side, it will have minimal styling effort.
#28: Blunt Bob with Micro Bangs
Let’s be honest, micro bangs work for some people, but for others they don’t work at all. This is the type of hairstyle I would take a lot of time talking to someone about it before removing the hair. The bob is clean, the cut is edgy, and the blonde is bright and clean, so it screams high fashion. This looks stunning on heart-shaped faces since it emphasizes the cheekbones and the short bangs really pull focus to them. A gloss treatment will keep the blonde looking expensive and not fried.
#29: Pixie with Side-Swept Bangs and Natural Texture
This pixie cut is so well done. The layers show movement and the soft side-swept bangs maintain a feminine touch. The blonde highlights add visual interest and catch the light more than a solid color would. I really appreciate how a good haircut should not only look amazing on the first day, but also a few weeks down the road when life gets in the way and you haven’t been able to make it back to the salon. This is the sort of haircut that grows in beautifully, and that’s really important to me.
#30: Short Cut with Layers and Cool-Toned Blonde
These layers appear to provide the hair with movement and texture instead of just giving the hair a blunt cut. I love how cool-toned blonde shades look, but I always say cool blonde shades are high-maintenance. You’ll need purple shampoo and will have to get your hair toned to avoid brassy hair during the summer! If you’re willing to do the upkeep, then the color is totally worth it! The cut is easy to style which is a nice trade-off.
#31: Icy Pixie with Cropped Sides
I really like the texture on top, it adds a lot of personality to the cut. The difference between the cut and styled tops is so effective. Icy blonde is a very daring color, it could wash someone out or look really good so I guess it depends on skin tone. If you have a warm skin tone, you might want to consider a less extreme look than platinum. This color and cut is high maintenance but it’s really something when it’s fresh.
#32: High-Volume Mohawk Situation
While I understand this styles isnu2019t for everyone, I want to show some appreciation for those who try it out. They are going to look amazing in this! The top has a lot of volume, whereas the short sides provide an understated silhouette that is difficult to ignore. Hold and height will likely require a daily commitment to products, as a flexible hold hairspray will be needed in addition to volumizing powder to attain the height. Shape will need some further commitment. If you like confident, elaborate hairstyles and you donu2019t mind a headache style commitment, this is your best option. It is something that many people lack the confidence to do.
#33: Super Short Crop with Clean Lines
It’s really gorgeous that this cut has been simplified to almost nothing. It really places the focus on your bone structure and features. I appreciate the clean lines around the ears and nape—that’s the detail that elevates this cut from looking like you just did a buzz cut to looking intentional. Day-to-day styling doesn’t get much easier than this. That said, you’re probably going to want to spend a lot of time in the chair to keep those lines looking fresh. If you want to just strip everything back and start fresh, this is a really empowering way to do it.
