My client got a bob for the first time. She came to see me before I went on holiday and I was surprised, she posted the most incredible pictures from her trip. She said the bob made her life a lot easier while she was gone. The idea of a blonde bob is timeless and effortless and looks incredible in every single setting. What she said about her trip still resonates with me today.
I have appreciated how a blonde bob can be styled in so many ways over the years. It is interesting to see how people’s faces and even the color of their hair make a huge difference to the final effect of a bob. I have had clients come in with a particular vision in mind and leave looking completely different to what they’d expected. It is so exciting to see how versatile bobs can be for different clients and that is why I have enjoyed cutting them for all these years. If you are considering a bob I would love to show you some of my favorite inspiration.

#1: Sleek Straight Platinum Blonde Bob
I like the nice, clean, and intentional look to everything. There is also nice light reflection in this space. I also like the length because it just grazes the shoulders and has the ability to move a little while still holding its shape. The all-over platinum is also very liquidy. If your hair is naturally straight, a single pass with a flat iron should be all you need. Everything looks very pricey, but in a good way.

#2 Chic Textured Blonde Bob with Gentle Layers
There is a lot going on with this look, but it seems like no effort was put in, which is a huge compliment because it is quite nice and soft. It has a very subtle movement in the cut and that is when you start to see the dimension. The highlights are blended in so beautifully that it doesn’t look like a chunky and obvious salon job, but rather like the sun has kissed the hair. This is look is for anyone who wants to look very put together without having to style their hair on a daily basis.

#3: Chic Blunt Bob with Subtle Layers
I can hear you. Fine hair blunt bob cuts can either end up looking really good or really bad. This one nailed it. The layers are clean and the barely there layers keep it from looking too flat and heavy at the bottom. The light blonde hair with soft highlights gives her hair brightness without looking stripey, which is perfect. Hair that falls flat by noon can easily be fixed with a volumizing product at the roots, though it may be slightly damp. This style is great for air drying. It is a style that I won’t say that about often.

#4: Textured Blonde Bob with Soft Bangs
These bangs are great and they are really enhancing your overall style. They have a soft appearance and they look like there isn’t a huge commitment. They just sort of look like they fell that way. The bangs perfectly frame your face. The rest of the cut has this great texture and has a nice piece-y look that adds some energy to the cut without making it look messy. I will say that bangs tend to need to be trimmed more regularly than the rest of the cut. Usually, they will need a trim every three to four weeks, but if you can live with that tradeoff, the bangs are a huge payoff.

#5: Modern Textured Blonde Bob with Side-Swept Bangs
I would suggest this style to clients who want something different, but not too different. It has a personality with the side-swept bangs while the texture adds interest. The length is that sweet spot where you can tuck it behind your ears. Honestly, it requires no effort to go from day to night which is the point!

#6: Stylish Rounded Blonde Bob with Subtle Highlights
I get really excited when I see a rounded bob because they are so tricky to pull off. It takes a lot of skill to get the shape right. If it’s too blunt , it can look like a helmet. This bob rounds out from the back and the top is very layered to create movement and she has definitely kept the shape. The highlights are so perfect that they look like they are really sun-kissed which is the aim. This style is gorgeous and super wearable. It looks so polished and put together even if you haven’t touched it since this morning.

#7 Textured Ash Blonde Bob with Soft Waves
I want to take a minute to appreciate this stunning shade of ash.
Ash-blonde is one of those colors that can wash people out, but in this case, it is spot on. It is cool without being gray, blonde without being warm, and compliments the lovely waves in the style. The chin-grazing length is always a bit of a gamble, but on the right person it can be really good. If you’re going to keep those waves, it will be a very simple job. All you need is a good sprunch of sea salt spray after a wash.

#8 Soft Textured Blonde Bob with Wispy Bangs
Those wispy bangs work excellently! They aren’t full bangs, and they aren’t trying to be curtain bangs. They are meant to be airy soft pieces that detract from the harshness of the face and that’s the purpose of this cut. The excel here. The blonde is illuminated with the golden highlights and warms everything up beautifully while the waves give that effortless style as if the hair was just scrunched and left. The length just below the chin is also extremely flattering and keeps the whole look feeling fresh rather than grown out.

#9 Softly Textured Blonde Bob with Subtle Layering
This cut is layered so seamlessly that the start and stop points are impossible to see — and that’s how it should be. The great texture makes it appear as if the hair decided to fall this way. And for those with finer hair who are concerned about it looking limp, these layers will create the movement so it’s not something you’ll have to use a lot of product to achieve. The length is also perfect, just above the shoulders is ideal for creating that extra volume.

#10 Textured Golden Blonde Bob with Flattering Face-Framing Layers
Face framing layers show that a lot of work went into this style and I respect that. The golden blonde has lighter strands woven throughout which catch the light really naturally and looks amazing. This is a good cut for someone who wishes they had a “thing” going on with their hair. It’s nice to have this style and not put a lot of effort into maintenance. The bounce in the layers is lovely. You can shake your hair and it will all fall back into place and that’s the dream.

#11 Modern Soft Pink Bob with Subtle Layers
I recognize that this isn’t a true blonde and falls into the adjacent category, but to be honest, I get asked about soft pink more than you’d think. The key to a colour like this one is to keep it subtle enough to look like a vibe rather than a costume, and this nails it. The layers give it enough movement to stand out and not look like a wig, and the tone is soft enough that it can look blonde to some, Pink does fade, and if you’re not into regular maintenance, this is most likely not your cut. That being said, the colour is beautiful when it is maintained.

#12 Softly Textured Blonde Bob with Gentle Face Framing
This option is great for those that want to look nice without spending more than five minutes doing their hair. The framing pieces are soft enough to not be obvious “layers”, and are doing a lot of quiet work to keep things shapely. I like that the blonde is a bright and clean color, and looks healthy which is half the battle with lighter colors. If you have a big curling iron, one pass through the ends would give you that little bit of texture. But honestly, it looks great straight too.

#13 Softly Layered Blonde Bob with Gentle Waves
There is a nice shine to this hair, and it definitely makes the haircut look better. The waves look loose and natural, and not overly styled at all. This really makes it look lived in, and helps keep it from looking messy. A good leave-in conditioner would really help with shine and help the waves keep their shape in between washes. The layers are well-placed and add movement without making the ends look thin, which I always worry about with finer hair.

#14 Elegant Soft Blonde Bob with Subtle Layers
Bobs that are chin length always seem classy, and this one captures that without being overly formal. It does have some layers, but they are kept minimal to help avoid the shape from being too blunt or severe. The warmth in the blonde suits her really nicely, and the creaminess adds to the softer appearance. For those going lighter a purple shampoo used once a week will keep the hair as it is and control brassiness. It is a timeless cut that really does not ever look out of date, which is impressive.

#15 Chic Textured Blonde Bob with Subtle Volume
Looking at this color, I appreciate the warmth of the golden tones. This color is light and warm instead of being uncomfortably brazen. Most other people tend to platinum and ash colors with extreme brightness. The golden tones in this color look beautiful and I think it gives an even more beautiful glow to the skin. The texture in the cut gives it crown volume that you contrarily have to work for, which is a nice surprise. I like the classic shoulder length that hits right at the shoulder. I also like that the ends have a good amount of movement. They aren’t flipped out and curled under, they’re just doing their own thing which adds to the classic look.

#16 Chic Textured Blonde Bob with Soft Waves
The way this sits right on the jawline creates a pleasing effect. It adds focus to the entire cheekbone area without going overboard. The waves are soft enough to appear natural, yet structured enough to hold the cut throughout the day. What I appreciate most about this one is how relaxed it is. There is nothing extravagant going on. It is just a great cut on nicely maintained hair, and that is enough. It is simple and straightforward. At times the simple cuts are the most difficult to achieve, and the most rewarding when they land.

#17 Classic Soft Blonde Bob with Gentle Face Framing
Face framing is a small detail, but it helps to soften the overall appearance a lot. The collarbone length cut gives options across the board as you can pull it back, style it down, or even throw a little braid in there if you’re feeling it. It’s versatile in a way that actually lives up to the claims, unlike other cuts that leave you empty handed. The blonde hair here looks very natural, as though she was a beach kid and her hair just evolved like that.

#18 Textured Blonde Bob with Playful Layers
I appreciate how the layers show more than the rest. It adds some nice character to the waves. They feel casual enough to be worn to a dinner or doing errands. For people growing their hair out from a short cut, this added layers will make that in between stage more intentional rather than less awkward. The blonde has great depth too; from every angle, it is not one shade which is nice.

#19 Chic Wispy Layered Blonde Bob with Face-Framing Bangs
I love the way wispy layers and bangs look together. When done well, they create a look that’s dreamy and hard to do otherwise. This cut captures that. Each layer is sculpted to be lightweight enough for it to all move together as a single entity rather than getting stuck and clumping like most of the layers do. The highlights are woven through beautifully and give dimension exactly where the eye goes. If bangs are on your radar, it really appeases the urge to go for it as the bangs discreetly blend back in. If you change your mind about the bangs, they aren’t going to be super noticeable.

#20 Chic Softly Layered Blonde Bob with Subtle Volume
I like this length just below the chin because it helps elongate the neck while also being short enough to feel like an actual bob and not a short haircut. The layers here add volume in the right places, the crown and the sides and dont leave the ends looking scraggly. I like the blonde a lot, it has just enough variation in tone to look dimensional and not really highlighted, if that makes sense. I like to consider that not everyone can make it in every 6 weeks for a trim and this is the kind of cut that looks good growing out.

#21 Effortlessly Chic Beachy Blonde Bob with Soft Waves
These waves are complimentable in a way that most other styles won’t be able to. Heated styling tools give off a completely different look when compared to the look achieved through seashore styling. The layering is just right; it doesn’t get extreme, and it avoids that awful triangular shape that wavy bobs tend to get as they grow out. I think this will looks really good natural because it is so simple. You wouldn’t need to put almost nothing in it, perhaps just a really light textured product that could get messy.

#22 Softly Layered Blonde Bob with Face-Framing Bangs
The bangs are blended so well into the hair that they just seem like another part of the hairstyle. Everything flows! This is not as easy as it sounds though, and it really is what separates bangs that look like they belong to the hairstyle, and bangs that look like they were just added as an afterthought. The way they sit on the cheekbones is lovely and the layering in the rest of the length is nice to keep the whole look balanced. If you ever have bangs that drive you crazy, it is probably a cutting problem, not a bangs problem! When the bangs are styled like this, they should just sit there and cooperate.

#23 Modern Textured Blonde Bob with Gentle Movement
A subtle balayage on a textured bob has got to be one of my favorite looks. It really captures that light dancing through the hair vibe with the extra waves and all. I love the calm feel of this cut, like she just rolled out of bed, maybe ran her hand through it, and walked out the door. The layers in this look move so well. It doesn’t read as “styled” or like “oh she put a ton of effort into this.” The goal when I cut hair like this is to make it look effortlessly and naturally beautiful. I like to create that desirable lazy look, and while of course all the work is done in the cut, I want to achieve that look where it seems like not a lot of effort at all.

#24 Chic Textured Blonde Bob with Fringe
The fringe is amazing because it is light. It is not heavy and blunt, just a few pieces break up the forehead and things are a little more relaxed. I will say a fringe this length can grow into your eyes quickly so if you go this route be ready for it because you may have to do some front piece trimming yourself between appointments. All you will need for that is a single pair of sharp shears and a dry cut directly across, nothing too fancy. The waves give it enough texture to make it look styled with little effort.

#25 Effortlessly Chic Layered Blonde Bob
I appreciate the purposefully added face framing layers. They soften the look of the cut, rather than just adding to the overall layering. The shoulder grazing length is a nice compromise, providing enough of a change. The blondes shade is healthy and nice warmth. More than the blended color, the health of the color is more important to how a cut looks. I wouldn’t say that about every cut, but a bland request like that would expect it to suit everyone who walked in and asked for it.

#26 Softly Textured Blonde Bob with Gentle Curls
Bob hairstyles and soft curls are something that should be appreciated more! Curls are generally seen as something you would do for an event, and for some reason, people think that bobs look better with straight, sleek styles, which is totally not the case! Bobs look amazing with curls too, and they’re less likely to be too much because of the shorter length. The natural, soft look is something you can achieve with more than just real hair! Soft curls don’t have to mean a long, tiring, and tedious session of curling every single strand of hair with an iron. For those with natural waves like me, you could do this style without fighting against the waves which is most often my preference. The softer look is so flattering, and with this style, it looks effortless like she is constantly receiving compliments.
