27 Trending Feathered Hairstyles Perfect for Summer

When getting a feathered haircut, some clients do not know what to expect or how this kind of haircut will look when finished. While this sort of haircut will leave strands of hair looking tossed around, a great cut should look effortless. It’s almost a certainty that unhappy customers will leave the salon when requesting haircuts that have “movement,” whatever that means. On the other hand, many leave the salon with satisfied smiles after receiving a haircut that appears to be feathered. Feathering has been around for longer than most techniques I use in my salon, but it still manages to feel new and current when combined with modern cuts.

The variation with a feathered cut is so ache inspiring. Everyone has a different hair texture whether it be thick or fine or somewhere in between, and that changes how the feathered cut looks on them. Feathered cuts are meant to be tailored to each person’s unique texture and cut. I remember one time I had a client who had apprehension about getting her hair cut because she had it long for more than a year. We made it a goal to take off only a tiny bit and put in some feathered layers. It was so liberating for her to finally feel her hair move. Although a lot of haircuts seem like they would take a lot of upkeep, these cuts provide a lot of movement without a lot of effort.

Chic Layered Feathered Cut with Soft Face-Framing Layers

#1: Layered Feathered Cut with Soft Framing Around the Face

I’m not sure if this will capture what I am trying to say, but I want to say that the layers fall as if they grew that way. I really like the softness around the face that was done on purpose, and not at all fussy; and the ends have a little bit of a breath with just the right amount of feathering. If you have some medium density in your hair, I think you’re going to appreciate the way this flows as it moves with you. I know this isn’t a fun thing to say, but this cut definitely does require a decent amount of upkeep (as in, a lot of trimming), but it really is the kind of cut that rewards you a lot for that!

#2: Layered Feathered Cut with Soft, Sun-Touched Highlights

I appreciate how gentle every cut is. Each layer is soft enough to allow the hair to fall however it wants. This is especially good for fine hair, as it makes the hair full without the added weight. Also, the highlights are so subtle that you might miss them; however, they reflect light so beautifully and add life to the entire cut. It’s one of those styles that looks effortless but every detail was intentional. I think some texturizing spray would really elevate this look on second-day hair.

Vibrant Feathered Layers with Bold Aqua Tones

#3: Feathered Layers in Aqua Ombre

Usually, I don’t talk about color choices, but I need to mention this one. The aqua color creates a nice gradient from those dark roots and has a nice subtle effect. It’s like finding something surprising in a clear pool. The feathered layers keep her from looking too costume “crazy,” and that’s an aesthetic risk you run with vivid color on long hair. It looks more like a mood, rather than a big statement. I will say a color like that does need a lot of maintenance. You’ll need a good color-depositing shampoo, and a willingness to touch it up before it looks really tired.

#4: Feathered Bob with Warmth and Texture

I first notice the feathering openings around the collarbone area. It seems there is some intentional looseness here so that it does not appear too constructed. The highlights remain warm without being overly so. They help the darker base and make the hair appear more dimensional when it reflects light. This length is generally more flattering for most people and the layers do their job on finer hair without creating too much thinness (if you happen to like having fine hair). If you like this shape and happen to have thick hair, keep in mind that your stylist may ultimately remove a lot of hair from the interior to achieve that same light feeling.

#5: Feathered Medium Layers with Easy Movement

What a lovely haircut! It looks simple and it’s what I really like about this style. The ends are lightly feathered which makes them move super easily. Just turning your head or stepping outside into a breeze will do the trick. And it looks like it will do a lot of the work for you in the morning. The way framing layers are balanced without crowding is also so much more difficult than it seems. If you have finer hair, I would suggest talking to your stylist about how deep they should go with the layers so that you get movement, but not at the expense of fullness.

#6: Feathered Bob That Keeps Its Softness

I enjoy the sense of simplicity that the haircut offers. It is a fresh bob, with the perfect amount of feathering to bring the ends up. The highlights are woven in so subtly that they can almost be considered nonexistent, but can catch you off guard in the sunlight. Because the hair is finer, the highlights are even more important. I would recommend a gloss treatment to keep the top smooth and shiny. And of course, if you are going to use any hot tools, put heat protectant on first!

#7: Feathered Bob with Natural Wave and Dimension

The underlying natural wave is what works so well here. The feathering isn’t fighting the texture, but rather working with it, and that’s where the sophistication comes from. The layers sit gently above the shoulders and have a sort of easy and intentional look to them. The highlights are minimal and perfect. This is a really easy, low maintenance cut as long as you are okay with coming in once a month to keep the shape from going soft. For people with a natural wave that they have been straightening, this will probably be the cut that changes your mind about that.

#8: Textured Feathered Bob at the Jawline

It is great how this strike is on the chin. That is a length that can go wrong very easily but the feathering here softens that so it reads clean instead of blunt. There’s real movement through the ends which is what makes it feel like a summer cut rather than something more buttoned up. This shape really holds its own on medium to thick hair. You’ll want to keep up with it though, once those layers start growing out past their intended shape, the whole silhouette shifts.

#9: Feathered Lob with Quiet, Tonal Dimension

I can see that a lot of attention was paid to color, and that’s what I keep coming back to most. The color tones appear muted and soft and I would guess that they used a wash of color, or maybe even watercolor, rather than foils. The light feathering around the face is great, it draws the eye to the center and is light so it doesn’t overpower. This is such a beautiful option for thick hair that wants to feel lighter without losing any of the fullness. The length that hits just below the chin is flattering on so many people and it looks great on the haircut dry style people because it looks so good if you’re someone who likes to leave your hair dry when you can skip the blow dry.

#10: Feathered Layers in Warm Caramel on Long Hair

This haircut has color and shape that work together. Each layer will catch light along the caramel tones. So much surface area has been created from the feathering so you get that richness that changes as the hair moves. It looks really pretty with thicker, wavier hair. The feathered look is one of the first things to go if you dont keep up with trims, so make sure you keep that part of your routine. You may want to use a light texturizing spray to really define all those layers.

#11: Feathered Layers with a Warm, Natural Highlight

There is an innate honesty to this haircut. It doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel. Rather, it focuses on executing the fundamentals well. The cut which lays just below the shoulders, has that easy, lived-in quality to it. The highlights give as softness. They look as if they came from being outside instead of sitting in a salon. The finer the hair, the more towards a feathery illusion of more. And this is just good placement. To the cut, it does remain looking this intentional, require upkeep. If it’s a regular trim, the hedges give more in return.

#12: Feathered Shag with Brightened Pieces Around the Face

Face-framing highlights are great for drawing attention to the focal point of stylistic alterations, guiding the viewer’s focus, and brightening the entire look. The shaggy overlay gives an effortless answer to the overwhelming feel. These layers are well textured, and will ensure the cut looks good on camera and again maif the hands feel good going through the cut. Shag looks for fine hair will inject some extra movement into the look without having to remove too much length. This will carry on through the entire season with regular highlights.

Chic Asymmetrical Feathered Bob with Soft Platinum Highlights

#13: Asymmetrical Feathered Bob with Cool Platinum Tones

This asymmetry is simply interesting rather than edgy, and than is, in my opinion, the most accurate description for the majority. The longer front pieces sweep forwards to the face, and platinum is softer as opposed to more harsh. On finer hair, this kind of feathering is most desirable because it creates the movement which the hair is missing. It is really lovely freshly done, and while it does require maintenance to stay looking less brassy than may salon visits, it may be the easiest to maintain.

Textured Feathered Pixie Cut with Lively Movement

#14: Feathered Pixie with Texture and Lift

The reason to jump into a pixie cut is payoff with this style. The feathering creates a ton of movement so it never looks flat or too close to the head, which is what a lot of people worry about with short cuts. The texture is a fun touch as well. On fine, straight hair like this, the layering creates that volume that the hair doesn’t naturally have and does so in an effortless way. You’ll have to see your stylist regularly to keep the shape, but most people are happy to take that trade because the daily styling time is almost zero.

#15: Layered Feathered Cut with Soft, Bouncy Movement

The hair is layered and thickened for ultimate bounce. And that feathering at the end makes for that fun little flip, without needing a round brush and spending 20 minutes on it each morning (though a blow dry will definitely help)! There’s also plenty of length to the hair to be able to pull it back, but with the layering, leaving it down is a must. It’s one of those haircuts that moves when you move, which is a desired quality that most people want, even if it isn’t something they vocalise.

#16: Feathered Cut with Gentle Softness Around the Face

In this one, I appreciate the restraint. The feathering is soft, the layers are easy, and the whole thing is soft without being shapeless. There’s some built-in volume at the crown that keeps everything from lying flat, which on finer hair is a subtle but important detail. The shoulder length is easy to manage and doesn’t require much in the morning. It really only demands an occasional trim to keep those edges from being wispy.

Textured Feathered Cut with Bold Bangs

#17: Feathered Cut with Statement Bangs

It’s all about the bangs! The look is made by the strong bangs framing the face, while the layered feathers keep the length feathers from being too heavy. It’s a cut with personality that doesn’t scream for attention. On straight, medium density, hair the body of the cut moves with the layers while the bangs are off to the side. I’ll be honest, bangs are a huge commitment. Not only do they need to be trimmed between appointments, but they need to be maintained and depending on the levels of humidity, they can get messy. However, when they are working like they are now, it is a serious commitment.

#18: Feathered Lob with Soft, Lived-In Waves

The haircut I have can be categorized as easy summer hair. It fits well since the waves are imperfect. Hair looks full and more interesting as the feathered layers create even more texture on days where you do nothing. When the humidity rises, the layers create lasting body throughout the day. I’d suggest a lightweight styling cream for definition but other than that, this cut is super low maintenance. It is as low effort as a cut can get while still looking good.

#19: Feathered Layers with Quiet, Elegant Movement

It has an understated elegance. It looks like your typical medium length cut, but once you add some movement, the layers start to dance and reflect the light in different ways. The framing around the face is very opening and light, and does not make it obvious. It is also an extremely forgiving cut on straight to wavy hair. Even two days after washing it, it look polished. The daily maintenance required is moderate. To get the most out of the layers, you may want to blow dry, but it also looks good with no styling.

Chic Textured Feathered Bob with Silver Highlights

#20: Feathered Bob in Silver with Lived-In Texture

Appreciate the look. It is always nice to see silver hair done well, and the feathering is done with rather than against, giving it a nice sense of movement. The young and fresh silver hair looks good. This type of layered bob looks really good on finer hair because it gives dimension that colour alone does not create. To keep the colour clean, use a purple shampoo and a gloss treatment from time to time to keep the shine and health of the hair looking really nice.

#21: Feathered Layers with Subtle Brightness

We love highlights that add brilliance but aren’t blatantly obvious, and that is exactly what we have achieved here. The soft feathery layers, without anything too dramatic, and the brightness woven throughout, just lifts the whole creation. On finer hair, it creates dimension in a way that is really natural rather than synthetic. The cut hits just below the shoulders, a really versatile length that you can do just about anything with it, or nothing at all. A good cut at this length almost does the styling for you.

#22: Long Feathered Layers with Sun-Warmed Caramel

Just look at how huge those cuts are, the long feathered layers move around and create the illusion of constant movement to the hair. The lighter feathered layers are amazing and the caramel tones make them reflect light even more! This option goes great with medium and thick hair and is stunning! It’s the sort of cut that encourages you to wear your hair down every single day! This cut comes with a lot of great hair days, it does take regular maintenance to keep that feathered look but it is absolutely worth it!

#23: Feathered Cut with Soft Layers and a Pretty Fringe

This style of bangs is more subtle than other examples of fringe that we’ve looked at. Because of this, the overall style takes on a different vibe. The entire look is soft. The layering is gentle, the movement is gentle. Overall, the effect is that this person looks great, without having clearly spent much time perfecting the look. The layering creates some additional volume on finer hair, which is important to prevent a look from seeming flat. It’s a stunning cut, the type of hairstyle that would lead one to say, ‘I wish I had done this a lot earlier’.

#24: Modern Feathered Cut with Light, Breezy Layers

I can see the way the facc-framing layers are done here, and the precise nature of how that layer is done makes the whole cut feel more intentional while also giving off a more relaxed vibe. The ends being thinned out really offers a sense of lightness which has a significant impact on how finer hair hold this style throughout the day. For a bit more root lift you may consider a volumizing mousse, but a majority of the work is being done by the cut itself.

#25: Textured Feathered Cut with Soft, Easy Waves

The wave pattern in this haircut is so natural that recognition of styling versus natural texture is near impossible. This is a sign that the haircut is working. The feathered cut is placed so that it will not hinder the movement of the hair and the cut just above the shoulders offers a very nice relaxed and effortless look. For fine to medium hair, the subtle layering really helps to build volume without taking away from anything. For maintenance, refreshing the waves is super easy, all you will have to do is a quick run through with a curling wand or a quick scrunch after a shower with a product.

#26: Textured Feathered Cut with a Wispy Fringe

I appreciate all the detail given in this work. The fringe is light and soft, the layering underneath is the same soft and light. The blonde color is beautiful, it really shows the detail. On finer hair, this is a clever cut because with less hair, more hair is created artificially without using products or complicated styling. It’s nice in photos, and good to have day to day.

Soft Feathered Layers with Natural Movement

#27 Soft Feathered Layers with Effortless, Natural Movement

Choosing this hairstyle is a good idea because it manages to still go with the natural flow of the hair. The waves are free to do what they want. Layered feathers shape the hair to however looks the best. The highlights are movement based, so reflect light in a very natural way, and just like the rest of the hair, the highlights move along with the hair. The hairstyle is a medium length, which is nice because it doesn’t require a lot of effort. With a light summer breeze and a blow dryer, the layers are awakened, and that looks very intentional. The hairstyle brings a positive and slightly fancier feeling.
