A trend I see in the salon is customers showing me draped bobs on Instagram and TikTok, and saying they love how effortless the haircut looks, and how the hair just falls in place. That is the beauty of this haircut. It is designed to look as if the hair has grown naturally and the hair is draped to create soft flowing curves that fall gently along the jaw and cheek bones in an organic and free flowing manner.
I have had many clients but one of the most memorable was a retired theater director who was in her sixties, and she brought in a picture of herself from 1987 and said she wanted to “feel that way” again. What I appreciate about this version in particular is the way the layering is concealed within the shape so you get so much movement and volume without being able to pinpoint where the layers are. It’s one of those styles that looks great from every angle which is rare for a bob.

The dramatic side part is a focus. It literally sends the hair to one side and makes a nice sweep across the forehead, opening up the whole face. The ends are a bit textured so it doesn’t look helmeted and I think it always looks a little rounded. For hair like this, soft and medium-fine, all you need is a little root lift spray at the crown before blow drying. I wouldn’t do this exact cut on someone with really thick hair because the graduation just wouldn’t fall the same way, but with the right hair, it is just stunning.

This is really exciting! The mauve-silver is really considered, as it works with the natural silver instead of against it, and the micro fringe here adds a bit of Europe. The darker root at the part is also a personal touch which means the hair won’t get that contrasting regrowth line as it grows in. Achieving this color usually means pre-lightening as a base, and the pastel sits as a wash so it will fade and need refreshing. But, the fresh weeks are stunning! You can see how this color looks almost different in every type of light — and I mean that in the best way possible! In the shade it appears like a rich warm brown color but in direct sunlight, the color literally shines like copper and gold! If you’re unsure about bangs, the curtain bangs do give you that some commitment vibe, but they’re more like long soft face framing layers that just happen to rest on the forehead. The ends of her hair are rolled under and that is blow dryer’s going to be more polished. If you just let your hair dry, it will hang straight down and that’s fine, but you’ll have a much more casual/relaxed vibe.

The crown volume comes from the interior graduation and on the left side, there is a little cowlick that the stylist seemed to work with rather than against. This takes a medium round brush and about five minutes in the morning, and the lowlights along with the root shadow makes it look not too blonde and gives it some depth.
