As the years have gone by, I have found that the best styles with Burmese curls are the ones that do not try to force the hair into something predictable, but instead allow the hair to go how it wants, just with a little guidance. Each style may be simple and lived in, or else it may be structured and formal, but what they all have in common is the focus on what the hair is doing.
#1: Soft Shoulder-Length Curls with Easy, Everyday Movement
I love the softness in this cut. The curls are shoulder length and just doing their own things which looks great. It gives off that ‘I didn’t try’ vibe, but you’ll get noticed for sure. The density is just right because it feels full, but not heavy. To be honest, lots of curly hair cuts get this wrong, so it’s nice that this one is spot on. If you live somewhere humid, just keep a little anti-frizz serum in your bag and you’ll be set.

The hair is small black curls. They look like sculptures because of their color and depth. Each of the curl sets catches the shadow differently. They differentiate from each other and draw the eye. No accessory is needed. The hair is all the talking and is a perfect example of simplicity with natural thick and curly hair. I like how you blended the color from dark brunette to medium and then to gold. The gold warms up beautifully. Also, the curls define the gradient more than when it is straight. Giving the pony a more soft look gives more of a laid back and styled feel to it. The ponytail has good volume with the curls looking healthy to the ends which isn’t the case for longer hairstyles. Reason behind this is regular protective styling which really shows here. Edges looking defined but not too harsh gives a more laid back feel to it unlike the super slick version of the style.

The updo alone won’t make this look work, although the curly puff is a classic; it’s the added elements. They contribute a personality to the style that the hair alone would lack. A good natural hair accessory can transform the look, and this is great example. The curls still have movement and definition even pulled up, which means she didn’t over manipulate them to get them up. If you want your curls to play along in an updo without losing their shape, don’t brush a lot. Just a gentle pull at the base will do.

Although I would consider this more of a special occasion style, many people wear their hair like this all the time and I totally get it! If the length causes the frizz to be a concern, then be sure to to focus your conditioning on the mid-lengths and ends. It should help a lot.

What I first noticed was your hair color, or more precisely, the multiple shades in your hair color. It all looks so naturally blended, and I can see that some strands are more golden while some look light brown or dark brown depending on the angle and the light. It is long enough to be pulled back into a ponytail, and short enough to let the curls bounce and retain their shape without being weighed down. From looking at the definition of that curl pattern, I can tell that it was achieved with product, and I mean that in the best way possible. This style effectively finds the perfect middle ground with the edges. Smoothing and polishing edges creates control and allows the rest of the hair to be free and flexible, showing texture and personality. Edgy vibes with total control — in a good way. This kind of style requires some maintenance with the edges to keep them looking sharp and polished, while the curls can be left to their own devices in between washes. The, less you do with them, the better.

Below, the defined spirals are styled to look effortless. Not every updo does, but this is one of those styles that is photographable from every angle. Were you in my chair, my thoughts go to those shorter pieces around the face. They are probably an inch to two inches shorter than the rest and curl up around the cheekbone and soften everything. This is thick hair doing what it does best. With something so textural, I would keep all the styling simple as the texture will already be doing everything. Just be sure to deep condition regularly because when tight curls are properly moisturized, the definition just takes care of itself!!
