We get that choosing a haircut can be really challenging, particularly since you are likely to keep that style for a year. Fortunately, we are able to tell you the best hairstyle to have for 2026. This specific haircut will keep you on trend the whole year, whilst also looking fabulous.
While going through my appointment book from last year, I came across something quite unusual. Almost all of the clients who came in asking for a ‘safe’ haircut ended up going for something a lot more daring at the end of the consultation. This is unsurprising, as the most daring looks are the ones that are more creatively designed. I have been tracking the innovative haircuts for 2026, and I am pleased to say that there will be a stronger emphasis on more layered and textured styles, which will enable people to have more styles with less maintenance.
I am so excited about everything we can do for you guys this year! I know some of you it might be your first time going shorter and for some we get to make the current length feel livelier. A client I had last month, the sweetest lady, had the same exact haircut for 11 years out of fear of change and we made one small change to her layers and she cried in my chair. That’s what people forget. It doesn’t have to be an extreme change to feel like a whole new you. I’ve picked out some styles and colors I’m into at the moment and I’ll be honest about all of it because that’s what I do.

#1: Soft Layers and Face-Framing Bangs at Medium Length
I love the cut! The way the hair feels is really nice and there is no way to tell that a haircut was just had. The way the layers are cut creates movement and makes it effortless to make the cut look good. The bangs are face framing and draw all the attention to the face making it more flattering. The warm auburn color is an amazing choice because it is warm toned and also hard to find. The cut is a lot more low maintenance than you would think because it will take some upkeep. The good thing is that it will only require a trim every 6-8 weeks and it will always look good. After just some simple air drying, blow drying, or putting the hair in a loose bun it will look like more effort was put into it.

#2 Layered Wavy Cut with Rich Caramel Highlights
This haircut looks amazing in person and in pictures (which rarely is the case), and I mean trust me. The caramel highlights were placed really nicely and warmed up the hair. She sits at the shoulder which is honestly the perfect length for waves because it has the nice bounce without any of the weight. I will say though, if you have fine hair, watch the layering because too many layers will make the hair look straggly thin at the ends. But, if you have medium density hair, or more, this haircut would be super easy to style, and it moves really well.

#3 Short Pixie with Soft Bangs and Lots of Texture
Not everyone can rock a pixie cut, and I understand why you feel the way you do. I know people who have tried out pixie cuts and who have come back to my salon every single time miserable. If this is you, I fully understand the hesitation! It really is a gamble. But in this example, the cut is amazing and the bangs really do add a lot of personality to the look. Because they are soft bangs, they won’t be a nuisance and can actually help to soften the contrast of your jaw and forehead. As for the upkeep, there’s going to be some product involved. Really, all you need is a really good texturizing paste to keep this haircut looking great and a finger comb to keep it polished. It’s a really versatile cut, but it will require some maintenance on your part.

#4 Curly Bob with Soft Layers and Natural Texture
Oh this makes me happy. If you have natural curls and you’ve been fighting them, look at this cut instead. The layers are doing exactly what they should, they’re letting each curl find its own shape without that annoying triangle effect. The length is smart too, it’s short enough to feel fresh but long enough that you’re not dealing with shrinkage anxiety every wash day. I know you probably already know this if you have curly hair, but humidity is going to do whatever it wants. So keep a good hydrating curl cream on hand and let your hair do its thing because it looks amazing.

#5 Silver Layered Bob with Soft Highlights for Dimension
I’ve been working with more silvers and grays in my chair and think it’s because people are starting to understand that you don’t need to fight your hair’s natural color as it changes. This bob hits just below the chin which is a really flattering length for most, and the highlights woven through give it depth so it doesn’t read flat or one-dimensional. The texture at the ends is a nice touch to keep things from looking too severe, or helmet-y, which can happen with bobs if you aren’t careful. Regular trims will be necessary to keep the shape clean, but other than that, very low effort for such a polished looking result.

#6 Pixie Cut with Subtle Rose Highlights on a Blonde Base
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and I appreciate all feedback! I am going to be really honest and say that rose highlight hair color is going to possibly look good for THREE weeks! After that, they start to fade to a color you definitely didn’t sign up for. If that doesn’t bother you, and you like having to touch it up, then go for it! The color does frame your face, and it makes it a lot easier to manage day to day. Just a little mousse and you are set! You want to budget for a few cuts too, because you want to keep the look consistent. Once they start growing out, the look doesn’t work anymore.

#7 Modern Bob with Gray Highlights and Natural Texture
This hairstyle gray highlights blend in with the hair but catch the light and will grab attention as the hair falls right above the shoulders giving tons of room to play with the styling. It’s a medium-length bob which means you can tuck it behind your ears or do a quick flip, add a wave, or whatever you’re feeling that day. For me, without a doubt, it looks best on hair that has some natural movement, because the texture does a lot of the talking. Just make sure to keep your appointments because the layers do need attention. Once they start growing out, the shape gets muddy.

#8 Silver Bob with Subtle Layers and a Soft Finish
The cut is pretty in a quiet way, and that is absolutely a compliment. Cuts don’t always need to be a statement. There are times when you want a cut that looks like you, just better, and that’s exactly what this is. The layers are subtle enough that they won’t make fine hair look sparse, which is always my concern with layered cuts and thinner hair. The silver tone is nice but it can be brassy if you’re not using the right products at home. A good purple shampoo and conditioner will help keep it cool and clean!

#9 Silver Bob with Soft Side Bangs and a Little Wave
Those side bangs are really nice! They go great with the haircut, and they’re super easy to style. Having hair above the shoulders is also great because it leaves enough length to curl it or do an updo if you’d like. The model also has a natural wave which is super nice and means you don’t have to blow dry your hair to make it look good. This is the type of style you could really just wake up and go without doing anything.

#10 Copper Waves at Shoulder Length with Lots of Movement
I have to mention this shade because it’s gorgeous. Copper strikes a good balance of being bold but not tacky. The dimensionality of the color and the movement from the layers prevent it from feeling heavy or blocky. This is my concern with copper, and I say this to all my clients when we discuss this color. The upkeep on color-treated redheads is a lot! It also fades quicker than most colors, and you’ll need a hydrating serum, and a color-depositing conditioner to help you go longer between appointments. It is stunning if you can manage that upkeep. You can count on people complimenting your hair.

#11 Textured Bob with Soft Waves Just Above the Shoulders
I love this cut because it keeps your hair looking clean and fresh. It strikes a nice balance between looking professional and being low-maintenance, and I think that’s the best part. I like that the length won’t get annoying to deal with. I also think this hairstyle offers great flexibility to different face shapes. Without a lot of layers, hair that is finer in texture might be misleading. I would recommend having a wave spray for days when you want more definition, but honestly, most days it’s totally fine to just leave it as is.

#12 Shoulder-Length Bob with Caramel Highlights and Soft Texture
I love the layers in this haircut because they add movement and help avoid that stiff, boxy look that’s so common with shoulder-length cuts. The layers avoid that completely and give the cut just the right movement. I love how every detail of the hairstyle complements one another from the layers to the placement of the caramel highlights. So, the highlights are actually positioned to give a sun-kissed effect that looks like you put in a little extra effort to make the cut look fabulous. If you work in an office and want a change without having to explain a million times what your new haircut is, this is perfect. It’s beautiful, it’s a good change and it lets you avoid the long explanation.

#13 Shoulder-Length Layers with Face-Framing Bangs and Easy Movement
Bangs blending with layers is so nice! It gives it a softness that makes it seamless and put together. The waves look like they could be from a dry twisted bun. Honestly such a nice styling method, I recommend it all the time. The cut makes it look great grown out and at any age.

#14 Pixie Cut with Lilac Tones and Playful Texture
Thanks for reaching out, but I’d like to establish a few things. Pixie cuts with lilac tones can be a bit sneaky in terms of commitment. The color will fade quickly, and as it grows out, your roots will be very visible. If you like salon visits, then this will be fun. The color adds some youthful rebellious vibes and the texture on top creates personality. But if you want to avoid coming in for a maintenance trim every few months, this probably isn’t the cut. The cut’s shape and layers are easy to live with and great.

#15 Medium-Length Layers with Sun-Kissed Highlights
It is perfectly fine to be a crowd pleaser. Just because something is popular doesn’t mean it’s bad, and in fact, it’s probably the most popular choice for good reason. With the most stand out features being the numerous layers and highlights, it embodies movement and gives you a healthy, alive finish. There honestly isn’t much more for me to say about this option, as it’s very direct and straightforward in the most positive way possible. This is a look that will suit the majority of people, and will not require a complicated routine in the mornings to style. Most people will find it easy and forgiving if you want to let your hair grow out between appointments to stretch your time between visits. When it comes to haircuts, it really is more true that sometimes, less is more.

#16 Clean Blunt Bob with a Little Texture at the Ends
A blunt bob’s crisp angles and outlines are very satisfying, and this one does the job excellently. It hits the jawline, which is definitely a little more risky, but it’s really great for this cut if you want to play up your bone structure. The softness at the ends is also a positive since it prevents the cut from feeling too harsh and helps ditch the manager vibes that everyone can agree are an issue with blunt bobs. With a layered cut, you’ll be looking at more regular trim appointments than with layered cuts since the overall look can suffer from being too uneven, but the maintenance is worth it for that sharp, clean look.

#17 Silver Pixie with Volume and Texture
What a wonderful pixie cut. The silver color looks bright without aging the wearer, a common concern. The layers add volume, and the cut itself is incredible. The best part is that it’s easy to maintain, unlike silver hair which takes maintenance effort. Be sure to have a good toning routine, as well as texturizing spray. This cut is one that will get people looking, and it’s absolutely worth the effort!

#18 Shoulder-Length Ruffled Layers with Warm Chestnut Tones
I can imagine how difficult it can be to style hair given how hair can differ in thickness and volume, so I appreciate how chestnut brown is so warm and inviting. With a rich tone, not many colors can help enhance a person’s complexion, but this one can. I also like how the ruffled texture will also contribute to it looking nice on the first day and to keep an effortless style to it by the third day without having to do a wash. This will be great if your hair is medium to thick because the layers will do the work and it won’t feel flat. You should also tastefully apply some mousse while your hair is damp and scrunch it to help, but after that you can just leave it. This one is nice.

#19 Sleek Blunt Bob with Clean Lines
This blunt bob is very similar to the one I discussed previously, but there is a slight different vibe; more minimal and a tad bit more polished. The ends are barely textured, enough to make it look like a helmet.. Overall, the look is clean and intentional. I believe most face shapes can pull the style off. The most important thing is to get the length right. This is a conversation to have with the stylist, as it is critical to the look. It is a simple cut, but simple means the precision is even more important.

#20 Copper Shag with Face-Framing Layers and Soft Fringe
I’m really enjoying this shag as it ticks all the right boxes for me. The face-framing layers blend perfectly with the bangs and create a very effortless look, as if the hair just falls into place. The most important aspect here is the cut. The copper shade is a daring choice which I really commend the model for. A timid copper colour is always going to look bad, but the model’s copper is great! I won’t lie and say that the model is not going to need colour touch-ups because copper is extremely high maintenance. However, the cut is very forgiving as the hair grows out. The shag actually gets more and more beautiful as it grows out, which is a great rarity! This is a wonderful trait for a shag to have!

#21 Silver Bob with Subtle Waves and Easy Shape
I guess I’ve talked about a lot of silver bobs today, and to be fair, they’re having a moment, I’m not mad about it. This one has a lovely wave pattern, soft and loose, which gives it a relaxed feeling to the whole cut that some of the more structured bobs don’t have. The layering is subtle enough that you don’t lose any density, which is important because if you’re going silver you want the hair to look full and healthy, not wispy. Regular maintenance on the waves is something to think about, and they’ll need refreshing between washes. But even when they fall a little flat, the cut holds its shape nicely.

#22 Medium-Length Cut with Framing Bangs and Warm Brown Color
and I’ve never put warm brown on someone and had them dislike it, that’s for sure! The layering is perfect! Just enough texture to keep it interesting without making it too much of a hassle every morning, and rest of the cut pretty much styles itself, like how I love to say – this is a style and go home cut, it blows dry and round brush bangs, so don’t stress about the bangs – it’s all the maintenance you’ll need!

#23 Short Shag with Lavender Tones and Lots of Texture
It’s entertaining and a little unexpected, and I think it really shows what I want to do in 2026, which is let loose, be creative and have fun with hair without thinking too much. I really like the energy the shag gives and the layers create the illusion of fullness which is great for fine to medium hair. Lavender is also a fun but soft enough color to use in everyday life, and the tones give the hair more of an interesting look. Like the other fashion colours, this is also going to fade and you’ll have to refresh it again. But I think some things are really worth it, and this is one of those examples.
