Oval faces can pull off many hairstyles, but that doesn’t mean that any hairstyle will look good. Bangs are arguably one of the most difficult styles to wear, as the wrong bangs can leave the impression that you put in little to no effort into styling your hair.
As a hairstylist, I know how little thought some people put into their bangs. I once had a client with the same side-swept bangs for ten years because they were convinced that their bangs matched their oval face. I had the opportunity to give her some soft curtain bangs, and she could not stop crying. It may sound strange, but the new bangs created a whole new look, and made her eyes appear wider and more open. Some bangs styles can be a no-brainer for oval faces. I’ll be listing my fifteen favorite bangs for oval faces and describing my top 3 in detail.
#1: Beachy Blonde Waves with Featherlight Bangs
When people notice you look different and compliment you, this is the kind of hairstyle that will get that kind of reaction. The bangs are supposed to look like they are blow in a wind. Achieving this kind of messy style with bangs actually requires skill. If you know what you’re doing, you can avoid the sparse look and go for a fuller look. The long tousled waves will also make this look great and the blonde color will add brightness to your overall appearance. If you are blonde or are planning to go blonde this will be a great way to get some bangs without the full commitment of a full set. Just keep in mind that if you’re going blonde you’ll have to think about maintaining that color.
#2: Textured Long Brunette Cut with Curtain Bangs
I really love doing this cut because it is so rewarding to the hair type. With medium to thick hair with a bit of natural movement it literally styles itself after a good blowout. The curtain bangs will part at the perfect spot for oval face shapes and the long layered texture will give the undone look, I just woke up like this, without the need to do anything. A good sea salt spray gives about 80% of the look and a light serum on the ends of the hair, takes care of the rest.
#3: Lush Wavy Locks with Soft Curtain Bangs
I get a lot of requests for mid-length waves and curtain bangs, and this is a great example of what makes it works. The volume of their hair is what makes the waves look so impressive. There is enough hair to give the waves a lot of body, but the amount isn’t overwhelming. The bangs also look good because they can be pushed to the side and worn as side bangs for a free forehead look, or worn all the way down for the curtain bangs look. However, if you have naturally straight hair, you will be using your curling iron a lot to get the right waves, and you have to be okay with doing that in the morning. If you’re using styling tools that often, you should definitely use a heat protectant.

It is no secret that I am a lover of auburn hair. Each time I mention this color in conversation, there’s an excitement that builds as I look forward to the great results, and this is no different. The layered bangs create a more casual vibe around the face, which helps balance out the boldness of the color choice, and the waves really add to the warmth of the color. The truth is this color will fade more quickly than most colors, so it will require more frequent trips to the salon than if you chose a more natural brown. It is advised to start using a color depositing shampoo shortly after this appointment. If you’re going to put in the maintenance effort, this color is really stunning.
#5: Effortless Brunette Shag with Choppy Bangs
Every hairstyle’s got its audience, and shag hairstyles continue to thrive because they defy the sleek, straight, magazine-esque quality that lots of cuts try to replicate. A shag hairstyle is purposefully messy and choppy in all the right places. It’s also got some fun bangs that add a lot of character to the look. If you’ve got an oval face, you’re in luck! This hairstyle will make you look even more like your normal self because the bangs styled across your forehead are the perfect length. If they cover your eyes that’s too long, but anywhere in the range of eyebrows to cheekbones will work. When styling, simply spraying in some texturizing spray and scrunching a bit will do the trick! This is a great look for an everyday wash and go as well. Just bear in mind that you will want to get those layers touched up every 6-8 weeks. Otherwise the look will grow out and become more overgrown than intentional.

She styles her hair to avoid the helmet look, which is a good idea if you have a lot of hair. The hairstyle creates volume, which is nice because you don’t even need a ton of hair for it. Of all the curly hairstyles out there, this is one of the best as long as you’re willing to do the work for it. When it’s done right, it is beautiful. When you do not take care of the hair it can be a drag.
#10: Soft Golden Bangs with Mid-Length Layers
Everyone will like this hairstyle, and it suits all events! You could not get a more perfect hairstyle. This cut will never be bad. The golden bangs lay perfectly on the forehead and the mid-length layers are just enough tussled to look modern without going into the territory of messy. This cut is very good if you want bangs for the first time because this weight and length of bangs is very forgiving as you figure out how you want to style it. You will have to maintain the bangs cut every couple of weeks, and have dry shampoo ready because bangs usually get greasier than the rest of your hair as they are resting on your forehead.
#11: Classic Chestnut Layers with Soft Full Bangs
The fullness of bangs creates different reactions depending on the person. I believe it depends on whether someone has had full bangs before. If they have, they know the upkeep that comes with it the possible breakouts on the forehead from bangs. They know the feeling of how great bangs look when newly cut. It’s how it is with this haircut. The silky texture of the chestnut brown hair makes the bangs look polished even when the hair isn’t freshly washed and is in the middle of the no wash cycle. With that hair length, everything will be easy to manage. For those with naturally dense hair, they will find that blow-drying the hair cut isn’t needed most days. #12: Caramel Blonde Straight Cut with Feathered Bangs
Calm, pretty, and effective. The feathered bangs are cut subtly and almost appear to be an afterthought. If you have enough hair to go around for this cut, then you are definitely going to get a lot of compliments for it. If your hair is thinner, then just be prepared for the fact that is not going to be a huge amount of volume to be able to pull off this look without all of the styling effort and products (like round brushes and mousse), so keep it realistic.
#14: Sleek Jet-Black Bob with Full Straight Bangs
This is a very clean bob haircut. A stylist of lesser skill would not have been able to achieve this. Every strand of hair is precisely and evenly cut, and the bangs are done expertly, which is very difficult to do. The haircut’s black color is very modern. It is especially good for a person with a lighter skin tone. It is a style that is very deliberate. The maintenance and upkeep of this haircut can be considered a downside. A cut like this will need to be maintained often in order to preserve its sharpness, while the black dye used to color it will need to be retouched regularly to keep the hair from growing out to a lighter brown or blonde. When properly maintained, this haircut is striking and is one of the best bobs you can achieve.
#15: Bouncy Chestnut Curls with Feathered Fringe
If you add bangs to your style, you might not appreciate how great looking natural curls can be. The bangs here are styled with, not against, the natural curl and I think more people need to know this. If your hair is curly, you don’t need to straighten your bangs. It’s also the chestnut color of these curls that gives them dimension. The lighter strands catch the light, making the style feel alive and dynamic. The layers do a beautiful job of shaping everything around the face while keeping the weight on the curls. With curly hair, it’s important not to take off too much weight. I won’t pretend this cut isn’t time-consuming. However, if you are already someone who is comfortable with your curl routine, adding this fringe is a natural next step.
