Some of my earliest experiences with cutting angled bobs was with a woman who described herself to me as being in her seventies. When I asked what style she was looking for and she said something ‘short and easy,’ I knew she was someone who had given up on her hairstyles being interesting. I was able to talk her into letting me add some angle to the cut and when she saw the final product, she got quiet for a half a second and said, ‘Oh, that’s actually me.’ I remember this style because for the most part, this is a style that aims to cover and conceal things from your face. This look, however, does the opposite. It flows nicely and seems to highlight the natural shape of your face.
For this reason, my favorite thing about an angled bob is the customization that it offers. It may look a bit more blunt and bold, or a bit softer and more tucked in at the sides. People tend to ignore the customization that is offered with hair dye, and opt for their natural silver hair instead. The cut is all about angles. Moving hair is all about thickness, and age does not change that. Even with hair that may have lost a lot of its thickness, the angle from the back to the front of the cut creates movement. It is actually a trend that I have noticed with my older clients, which is that the styles seem to be very creative, more so than with any other younger clientele.

I would call this effortless, but I am aware of the amount of effort that goes in to making something appear this simple.

It’s a great cut. The layers give it movement without thinning the hair. The silver is bright and healthy, not washed out. The ends are texture via point cut or a razor cut, creating the silky soft feathery look so they don’t look thick and blunt. These are the kinds of subtleties most people wouldn’t notice, but change the fall of everything.

I value how this style elongates the neck. The shortness at the nape creates that effect naturally and the unobstructed layered texture allows the overall clean line to be framed nicely. I find that collaborating with the hair sometimes works better than relying on a styling technique, especially when attempting to create a bob with fine hair. As for the silver highlights, they are very well done, and make it appear as though someone has been growing out their gray hair, and not actively trying to fight it. The decision is very reflective of confidence, and it shows in the overall balance of the style. It’s true that with any layered cut, there is a need to shape it to avoid the layers growing out in a way that is shapeless, but with this cut, the layers require shaping the most.

Out of all the fringes we have seen, this one looks fluffier and softer. It creates a more romantic and a little less structured appearance. The fine quality of the hair is very advantageous here. A thicker fringe would have more than likely overpowered the fragile proportions of the rest of the cut. The way the silver reflects the light is really different at the points where the fringe is thinnest, and while it is a detail, it creates a softness around the forehead and temples.

That’s a great color choice! Deep burgundy is a nice color for a sharp angled bob, and I appreciate that it is not trying to be subtle about it. Having seen two lavenders before, I was curious about what makes this one a little different. I think this one is my favorite copper! It’s warm and bright enough to look lovely and flattering next to many skin tones. The warm amber red should look beautiful. The length being just below the jaw line is good because it keeps the focus on the face without distraction. The subtle add-back volume at the end of the hair shape the profile nicely. Even more so, fine straight hair look at this kind of color gorgeous. The shine will fall beautifully and will not be competing with any frizz or texture. Also, similar to burgundy, copper tends to fade a lot. To maintain the warmth try to not get direct sun exposure and use a sulfate free shampoo when washing.
