The 16 Cutest Examples of Naturally Curly Hair with Bangs

Best naturally curly hair with bangs

Curly hair with bangs is adding a short fringe near the eyebrows to naturally curly hair. Curly bangs help soften sharp face shapes, hide large foreheads and draw more attention to the eyes.

Knowing the natural structure and fall of your spiraled strands and working with them instead of going against them is an important process to start with when styling or cutting your tresses.

Adding curly bangs is a total commitment, but the outcome is totally worth it! A fringe that has the right length and style customized to your face shape and curl type can effectively soften, frame, and balance your face. Plus, it makes your twirled hairstyle even hotter and adds a unique edge to it!

How would you describe this look?

What I love about curly hair bangs is how effortless it is because it was designed that way. This cut is graduated to create volume at the crown while still maintaining that classic bob shape. It is also layered a bit to allow movement. My client specifically requested baby bangs to curl her straight hair. I think she wears them well.

Any advice for someone considering it?

I designed this cut/style for my client based on her lifestyle and how much work she was willing to put into styling every day (which is none) so I cut the bob to enhance her natural texture and give her volume in the desired area (at the crown if the head). As I said, this is effortless because the client’s natural texture was taken into consideration, so she has to do nothing but if your hair texture is not similar it may require a bit of work on your part to get this “look”.

I encourage people to be honest with themselves about how much work they are willing to do if they were not blessed to naturally have the same hair as the person wearing the style you wish to achieve.

How would you describe this look?

This is the ultimate modern fro ringlets. Its modern round shape is soft and the heavy bang frames the face perfectly. This shape is perfect for someone who loves volume and wants to experience having curly bangs. Curly hairstyles with bangs are spot on for this year. Definitely one of my favorite trends for this year.

Any advice for someone considering it?

I encourage my clients to try new looks. Curly hair women get really scared of cutting bangs but they literally work on most hair textures. Hairlines are the biggest factor when determining how short bangs should be cut. Using the correct hair products for your texture is important to keep hair hydrated and frizz free. Using a moisturizing gel or styling creme will add tons of volume and hold adding shape and definition to the curl. Always remember, using a diffuser will always give you maximum volume and give you the perfect finished look.

This look is perfect for the girl ready to look and feel like a rock star!

Stevie Nicks meets modern day shag! By layering her blunt bangs, she has the option to wear them smooth or embrace her natural curls. The cutest thing is how the bangs open up the wavy hair around her face so they don’t take over. Curly hair tends to have a mind of its own, but with the proper layering, we’re able to control where those waves live so she doesn’t have to hide her high cheeks and blue eyes behind them!

I believe everybody can have a bang, but be mindful what bang and don’t sweat that cowlick (that we all have). If your lifestyle doesn’t prompt for a lot of styling in the morning, shoot for something a little longer than your natural hair texture styles for you. I’m a true believer in all Hairstory products for curls. If you’re an air dry and go kinda girl, New Wash and Hair Balm are the golden tickets to being able to achieve that.

How would you describe this look?

Miriam’s haircut is a modern shag with lots of layers with tendril-y ends and curly/wavy bangs. I love a lot about a haircut like this, definitely the 70’s vibe, the bangs of course and the shape. It’s so satisfying that curly hair people are becoming more open to shapes that allow their natural curls to move!

Any advice for someone considering it?

Using a cream cleanser like Hairstory New Wash is so important for curly hair! Regular shampoos deplete your hair of its natural moisture making hair frizzy, fluffy, and dull. New Wash cleanses the scalp and maintains natural moisture and movement. You’ll also need some styling products for this hair look. A balm and sea salt spray are my favorites for curly hair, and they’re very user-friendly. On Miriam, I styled her hair with Hair Balm, also by Hairstory and a diffuser with low heat and low air. A cut like this can work with any face shape you just have to find a stylist to work with that will create something right for you.

Outstanding Curly Shag Style

How would you describe this look?

The fun thing about this curly hair with bangs is that we actually permed the top portion of her hair to match the rest of her curl pattern, which was much curlier. The cut I would describe as a modern shag and we styled it with a hair diffuser to enhance the curl.

The best thing about a shag is the amount of texture you can create. So for someone with as much hair that my client has in this particular situation, she is able to have lots of movement and volume despite the density of her hair.

Any advice for someone considering it?

Look at pictures of the different types and figure how subtle or extreme you are wanting your look to be. You can really customize a shag to anyone’s face shape and hair texture. So just look at the different shapes and styles of shags. See what your eye is drawn to.

Then think about your natural hair texture. Are you wanting to air dry or use a blow-dryer to style your hair? A shag will normally enhance your natural texture and be easier to create volume with less effort.

Lovely Shoulder-Length Hair

How would you describe this look?

I would call this a curly shag. It’s a fun curly style that makes the fringe the focal point of the cut and eliminates the dreaded “triangle” shape that happens so often when curly hair lays heavy along the perimeter. This cut shifts the weight up, so the client gains volume on top, a lean silhouette along the bottom, and really opens up the face. The cutest thing about it is definitely the fringe! It gives off a very 70s vibe. So many curly girls have been told they “can never have bangs.” Yes, you can!

Any advice for someone considering it?

Embrace your curls (and take care of them)! Curls typically need moisture and hold, so don’t shy away from the product.

To achieve this look we did a Twist Set when the hair was wet and diffused dry. I always advise my curly clients, if you don’t have time to twist all your hair, focus on the front and the top – don’t worry about what’s underneath. Also, if you don’t have a spray bottle, get one. This style can last several days without washing. Use the spray bottle to lightly re-saturate the top and redefine the curls by twisting again – this will help you see defined, separate curls (not one big mass of curl).

This cut would work for anyone! I would just adjust the length of the fringe based on their face shape – for instance, someone who had a wider face, I would have made the fringe longer and more narrow. Aside from a bang trim between regular appointments, I would recommend the client come back in 8-10 weeks for a full re-shaping.

How would you describe this look?

I love my girl Delilah’s effortless-looking curls. Previously, we’ve kept her hair long so I was so excited when she came in wanting to go shorter. We looked at some round shapes at first but ended up with this shag look because I was inspired by her grown-out bangs. I wanted to clean them up to make them balanced and intentional with the rest of her hair.

Her hair color is all natural which keeps her curls healthy. I love a curly shag because it helps separate and release dense curly hair so it can bounce freely. The bangs draw attention to her eyes because the widest part of the cut is at eye level. I love using cutting techniques instead of color to add dimension to hair.

Any advice for someone considering it?

I get a lot of young curly-haired girls in my chair who hate their hair and straighten it every day with a flat iron. I get it, curls need extra maintenance and investment that sometimes can be hard. Sometimes, I can win them over to the curly side once I help them find a curly regime and routine that’s right for them.

On Delilah, I put Kevin Murphy’s Killer Curls in her hair when it was sopping wet and combed it through with a wide tooth comb. I cut it wet, and section by section placed it in its style. I wanted her hair to air dry as I worked so I didn’t have to touch it later because messing with the curls dry causes frizz. I diffused it a little, but her curls don’t really need it. I added some KM Killer Waves spray as I diffused.

I recommended KM Motion Lotion for day two curls to revive and refine frizzy curls. It’s literally like face moisturizer but for your hair. Every curl type is different and every curly girl I know has found different hair products and different routines to make their hair work for them. It’s a process to discover a routine, but I promise it’s worth it.
