23 Trending Hairstyle for Women in Miami, FL (As Recommended by Stylists)

You might see the term ‘Miami Hair’ and think of messy beach waves. That is simply untrue. And we think this range is frankly amazing. Last winter, we had a client who flew from Ohio, and was super excited saying I want some Miami Hair! Obviously not knowing this was much more than some Caribbean textured hair. Miami Hair has a lot more components than just beach waves. There is a bold Latin glam and old Hollywood essence of the art deco period. There is something for everyone and the stylists mean business!

Miami takes real personality and the humidity is no exception. You will have to put up with all of it. With that said, every style listed has passed the personality test. I have seen the looks work in real life as opposed to those Pinterest boards and studio looks. And if you want to chop your hair off, grow it out, change your color a lot, or anything that might require an identity crisis, I’m more than ready to share my thoughts!

#1: Rich Chestnut Layers That Actually Move

This is a great example of a stylist at work because there is a perfect amount of layers and the right layering technique so that the hair moves as you walk. You can see so much of the chestnut color dimension (three different tones, maybe?) so that it is far from flat. If you have thick hair and you are tired of the hair feeling like a blanket on your shoulders, these layered cuts are going to change everything for you. Just know that it will look so effortless and great that it will be worth it to have a good round brush handy for the non wash days to coax the hair back into place because that is a small price to pay for the effortlessness.

Subtle Brunette to Creamy Blonde Ombre Waves

#2: Brunette to Creamy Blonde Ombre That Doesn’t Scream “I Got Ombre”

Your melted balayage looks great – the ombre looks great on you! Definitely a colorist that knows what their doing. Blended warm blondes with dark brunette colors are always a win! The layered cut at mid-length helps thin the hair out a lot. Moves the color from being too dull or too bright. Blonde in Miami is a maintenance job. The combo of sun and humidity makes it brassy so fast! Definitely expect a lot of maintenance to keep it looking good. Purple shampoo will help a lot between appointments.

Sleek Chestnut Bob with Honeyed Highlights

#3: That Chestnut Bob with the Honeyed Bits That Just *Chef’s Kiss*

My greatest weakness is bobs that sit just under the chin! They absolutely do wonders for your jawline! The honey highlights are beautiful and add some warmth and brightness to your face and pair nicely with the cut. The color change is nice and subtle in a positive way. It’s like your hair went on vacation and came back looking refreshed. The cut looks really nice and sharp and I can tell you that means you’ll be due for some trims in about six to eight weeks. Once a bob starts to grow uneven, it really quickly loses its magic.

Flowing Caramel Ribbons on Soft Waves

#4: Caramel Ribbons on Waves That Look Like You Woke Up This Way

I like the dark roots, as they buy me time between color appointments, and that is super valuable. The caramel pieces look so nice, as it looks like a skilled stylist really considered where the light would hit instead of just running a cap through. The wave pattern looks so natural and relaxed, it’s giving “I just air dried this on a boat”, which is basically the highest compliment if you’re in Miami. The mid-length is the sweet spot here, as it’s long enough to pull back if it’s 95 degrees out, but short enough that it doesn’t take 45 minutes to dry. Just a heads up that maintaining those caramel tones can take some work, so plan to do some color-depositing treatments at home between your salon visits.

Radiant Copper Curls with Subtle Undercut
Instagram: sharraspann

#5: Copper Curls with a Sneaky Undercut Situation

This style combines two techniques and excels at both! For one, that copper color on natural curls is STUNNING! The way it catches the light with every single coil is so dimensional! You don’t need highlights because the curl pattern alone creates so much variation! And the hidden undercut in the back of the nape is so clever! Anyone with thick curly hair knows that back of the neck in Miami heat is a WAR ZONE. Removing that bulk underneath is a game changer for how the hair sits and how cool you feel. The volume stays exactly where you want it, on top, and the weight disappears where you don’t need it! The only thing is that it will need to be cleaned up every few weeks, or else it goes from intentional to I neglected the back of my head.

#6: Silver Bob with Blonde Face-Framing That Actually Works on Real People

it might be true that silver hair is becoming more popular but most of the time, it looks way too flat or icy. However, this is an example of getting the balance of warm and cool toned hair. the blonde framing pieces are just enough to warm up the overall look to not wash you away. Looking to get a blunt bob? This is why I recommend it, fine and medium hair? The blunt bob ends creates an illusion of thickness that might not exist However, I will say that the conversation about the maintenance of silver hair is always real because monthly toning will become an aspect of life. If you are wanting to keep it real, this look is worth the commitment. It looks so good in photos too, which lets be honest, matters.

Light Blonde Textured Lob with Natural Roots

#7: Textured Blonde Lob with the Roots Left In on Purpose

I always get excited when a client walks in and asks if their roots growing out is an issue. Of course, it’s not! Growing out roots is a great way to achieve an intentional look. The contrast of deep brown roots and pale blonde ends is gorgeous and helps keep the hair from looking ‘obviously grown out’. This lob looks so good and is the perfect length because it can be thrown back into a ponytail, plus looks great down. This style is so ideal for an active lifestyle because it works with you, not against you. Just a heads up, if you have shorter hair, you may want to do a deep conditioning mask to avoid drier ends. The combination of blonde and textured hair, along with the salt air from Miami, creates dryness really quickly.

Midnight-Blue Sleek Bob with Textured Ends

#8: Midnight Blue Bob That’s About to Become Your Whole Personality

I won’t lie. It can be a bit stressful when I have someone sit in my chair and ask for a fashion color. It has to be perfect. However, this one? nnThis one gets my full approval. In some light, it looks black and then you step into the sun, and the bright deep blue color catches the light and it’s stunning enough to make people do a double take. I was worried the ends would look severe like a “movie villain” bob but this bob has a flattering cut so we are good. And the blue looks good on all skin tones. nnThat’s why I prefer this deep blue color to a bright teal which can be unflattering on certain complexions. And the good news? Touch ups are less annoying on dark fashion colors.

Soft Silver to Golden Blonde Ombre Waves

#9: Silver to Golden Blonde Ombre That’s Giving Mermaid Without Trying

The transition from cool to warm colors in this hairstyle is special. Most people usually see ombre effects from top to bottom dark to light colors. With these warm colors added to the hair, it creates a flowy sunset to wear. The waves in the hair help with the blend of the ombre; without the waves, the ombre effect would be a stripe. I appreciate the look of ombre because it means you can ‘grow out’ your hair without it looking bad. The grow out is just part of the look. If you go for this look, it is a good idea to get some color protecting hair products because the two colors will need maintenance to stay looking good.

Refined Twist-Out Crochet Braids

#10: Twist-Out Crochet Braids That Protect AND Serve Looks

A lot of people underestimate crochet braids as a protective style option! Many think of box braids or cornrows when braids are mentioned, but crochet braids create so many more possibilities! For example, the twist-out style shown here is at the top of the list. The bottom of the style has hair cornrowed so that their scalp can breathe, and on top, gorgeous twisted textures are added. Many people won’t even realize that this looks so natural that it is a protective style. The length is smart here too; it’s long enough to be fun but not so long that it gets heavy and starts pulling on your cornrows. For hair styles that are meant to be low-maintenance, a lot of my clients end up having to do night time routines so that it looks good. This is really where protective styles start to fall apart, but your hair is covered by a really nice satin bonnet. DT, they don’t really have to do anything, which is the whole point.

Warm Caramel Waves with Soft Brunette Highlights

#11: Caramel and Brunette Waves That Make You Look Like You Just Got Back from Somewhere Fabulous

I appreciate the effort that goes into these color combinations, and the coloring techniques used here create a sophisticated look. The aim here is to ensure that closely toned colors look blended, yet create a strong dimension, rather than look highlighted. The way the color reflects the sun is stunning, and the mid-length of the style is quite flattering. The gentle waves add some character without the style looking fussed. One thing I will say is that managing two colors so that they don’t bleed into one another takes a skilled colorist; if the caramel fades too much, it will blend into the brunette and you’ll lose all that lovely depth. So, once you find someone good, don’t let them go.

Soft Tousled Waves with Sunlit Highlights

#12: Tousled Waves with Those Little Sunlit Pieces That Make Everything Better

Feeling the summer vibes when hair looks sun-kissed is so fun! I loved the look of the highlights so I was super excited about this. I think the way the highlights are placed looks natural and less done. It definitely feels fresh and easy when highlights are done around the ends and face so the sun really hits! If you have thinner hair, pay attention! The light catching pieces and delicate layers look so much like volume. I really love the look of soft loose curls like this because it feels more modern. For more texture and to really keep that tousled look going, I would suggest a good texturizing spray. This hairstyle is super low maintenance which is the best part!

#13: Long Blonde Beach Waves That Actually Look Like the Beach Did Them

Clients frequently inquire about my beach wave photography. I have to explain to them that the waves are most likely a product of 45 minutes with a curling iron. THIS is achievable. The subtle balayage means you can delay a visit to the salon for 4 weeks to avoid a severe root situation. The color graduation enhances the pattern of the waves making the ends appear lighter naturally. The medium length will be most flattering on thick hair. It creates enough weight to keep the waves from getting too puffy, but not so much that it just hangs straight. Since you’re reading a Miami hair guide, I assume you live in a humid climate, so the length may be beneficial or detrimental depending on your hair’s response to moisture. For polished, non-puffy waves, a good anti-humidity spray will be essential.

Deep-Charcoal Flowing Waves with Subtle Gray Highlights
Instagram: hairegosalon

#14: Deep Charcoal Waves with the Coolest Gray Pieces Running Through Them

Honestly, I had to zoom in to see the gray highlights because they are very subtle. It is hard to achieve a highlight that looks like natural silver hair! The deep charcoal color is so good. It is rich and dramatic but not overly harsh. The grays are nice and keep it from looking costume-y. The volume in the hair is amazing and the waves are lush and expensive looking. The gray looks nice (non-ashy), which definitely requires a skilled colorist. Upkeep is required for this look because the dark colors fade and the gray hair shifts. You will need to see your stylist frequently, but for this look, it is worth it!

Sunkissed Beach Waves with Face-Framing Layers
Instagram: condehairsalon

#15: Sunkissed Layers with That Perfect Face-Framing Situation

I like how these face-framing layers are working. Rather than looking choppy and trying to blend in with the rest of the hair, these layers really do nice things for the face. It really does good when I see people do this wrong and it makes me cringe. However, I like how all the layers have been incorporated with the rest of the cut, and the lighter, face-framing pieces are brightening in a flattering way. Very nice and polished look. The waves created at the roots and the ends look very relaxed. If you have fine or medium hair and have been looking for more movement, this will work well for you. This is a good design to show to your stylist. I would recommend a curl-enhancing cream for the waves because you will need it for that relaxed look.

#16: Espresso and Caramel That Blends Like It Was Meant to Be There

I enjoy the combination of espresso and caramel when the drink is made correctly. This drink has appealing aesthetics, the way the the caramel is layered in the cup reminds me of the highlights in someone’s hair. The asymmetrical caramel placement looks very natural and makes the drink aesthetically pleasing. I also appreciate that the barista created the layers as well and they did a great job. If you have warm skin this will look really good on you. Even people with cooler tones will be able to pull this off as long as the caramel is sparser.

Lustrous Chestnut Waves with Soft Layers

#17: Chestnut Waves with Layers That Flow Like They Mean It

Rich chestnut is an elegant shade that suits all skin tones. This color provides a radiant and a healthier appearance. The layers on this style executed very well. Fluid movement is created without ending up with thinned out or snagged ends. This is a typical problem with layers in longer hair. Everything looks intentional and full, especially the waves. The waves are very bouncy. This indicates that this person has either very nice, and easy hair, or they have a very good curling iron and a ton of patience. I would also like to mention that in Miami’s humidity, the waves can look really pretty and soft, as they relax and change, or they can frizz out completely. Just know your hair and texture to find out if this is the right daily style for you.

#18: Silky Chocolate Layers That Basically Style Themselves

It surprises me that not many people request this chocolate brown shade, as it is such a beautiful color. The highlights are just right enough to create dimension, so the color doesn’t come off as one solid hue. These highlights are subtle enough that people wouldn’t be able to say, “those are highlights.” Dimension like this is what really gives people that “wow” reaction to your hair, even if they can’t pinpoint what it is that they like about it. The length is also ideal on this haircut. It’s not too long that it becomes a hassle to style in the morning, and the soft waves are super easy to achieve. You don’t need any special tools to do it, just a sectioning twist and a blow dryer. This is the type of hairstyle I think everyone should get because there’s so much you can do with it.

Golden Caramel Waves with Elegant Hair Tuck
Instagram: ashleyahair

#19: Golden Caramel Waves with That Tucked Detail Everyone’s Going to Ask You About

One of the things I like the most are the horizontal tucks. They can be pretty unique and help showcase the dimensional color and different blended strands. I think the color story is really nice as well! The golden and caramel colors seem to float together with no harsh lines at all. The waves are really good at breaking up the color too. I think this is versatile enough to work for any kind of event. It looks really nice worn down to be fancier and still looks really nice just left to do its casual thing on a Tuesday. The color upkeep will be the biggest commitment. It’s pretty easy to maintain the cut but golden tones can start to look pretty bad if they aren’t taken care of.

Sunkissed Dimensional Balayage Layers

#20: Dimensional Balayage That Grows Out Like a Dream

For those of you who don’t love spending hours in the salon, the most time saving and best choice would be a beautiful balayage. Look for something that has a seamless blend of the deeper root tones with the lighter sun-kissed pieces through the mid-lengths and ends. The great thing about this hair color is that it will look great and intentional for months as it grows out. There’s the whole magic trick. The soft layering through the lengths removes just enough weight to let the hair move without looking thin, which is exactly what you want when you have a lot of hair to work with. But not every balayage is created equally, and not every stylist can achieve these seamless transitions. It really takes someone who understands the painting technique and can customize placement specific to YOUR hair. That means don’t just go to the person with the first availability. This is a ‘check their portfolio first’ kind of situations.

Beach-Blonde Wavy Layers with Dark Roots
Instagram: fiosbeautymiami

#21: Blonde Waves with Dark Roots That Are Supposed to Be There

The dark roots are not a mistake! Previously, visible roots meant it was time to book an appointment. Now, it’s styled that way on purpose. The dark base and blonde waves contrast to create visual depth and give the illusion of thicker hair. I love to share that trick. The long layers add movement and overall this looks captures a nice balance of edgy and feminine. I think the feel is really versatile to different people and lifestyles. You will need to touch up the blonde because healthy blonde ends quickly look damaged, even when they are not. But the roots? Let them grow. That’s the whole point and it will look great!

Sleek Silver Ash Balayage with Seamless Layers
Instagram: europahairstudio

#22: Silver Ash Balayage with Layers That Just Fall Perfectly

The picture above shows an amazing new cut and color that makes you want to stare. The silver ash tone does not attempt to be platinum or gray, instead, it sits in a very specific cool-toned area that is modern and purposeful without being overbearing. The seamless cut adds beautiful movement to the hair, and is especially good for fine hair that just hangs there because it creates those natural curves and bends as the hair moves. Although the color is absolutely beautiful, it is one of the most high-maintenance options on the list because ash tones tend to pull warm, especially if you live in hard water. The good thing is, it will look beautiful and that will definitely be worth the regular toning and shower filter!

Fiery Red Cascading Layers with Subtle Waves

#23: Fiery Red Layers That Are Absolutely Going to Get You Compliments from Strangers

RED. I will always love the color red. I could never ignore a deep red to a rich auburn gradient. It looks good on every skin tone and I know I’m not the only one who thinks so. The layers and soft waves at the bottom bring movement to the hair and helps tone it down to more of a soft and wearable look instead of a crazy and wild look. Okay, let me be honest for a second. The color red and all its shades fade the fastest. I said what I said and that is SCIENCE. You will be getting touch-ups more than anything else on this list. To stretch out the time before touch-ups, you’ll have to use color preserving products. Cold water rinses, less frequent washing, the whole nine yards. But the confidence that comes with walking into a room and feeling everyone’s eyes on you? I believe it’s all worth it.
