Steal The Look: Taylor Swift’s Head-Turning High Bun

Lookin’ for a ‘do that can be worn just about anywhere? Look no further than this adorable, girly high bun (aka one of our favorite Taylor Swift hairstyles) worn by the diva herself at the 41st Annual FiFi Awards in June 2013. Dress it up with glitzy earrings and a fancy frock a la Taylor, or dress it down with comfy leggings or jeans and a cozy sweater.

“I love the simplicity of the look,” says Jennifer MacDougall, L’Oreal Professionnel artist and celebrity hairstylist. “It is elegant to have the hair swept up and the two different textures make it edgy. The fringe is smooth and the upswept bombshell bun is romantic and textured.”

Looks may be deceiving, but don’t shy away from this one because it looks a little complicated. This pretty Taylor Swift high bun is totally achievable. Here’s how to get the look, courtesy of MacDougall’s expert guidance.

Recreate One of Our Favorite Taylor Swift Hairstyles:

1. Spray It
Divide hair into six even sections. Next, “spray L’Oréal Professionnel Infinium 3 hairspray on each section,” says MacDougall. If you have bangs, smooth them out with a flat iron and apply a small amount of a defining product to them (like L’Oréal Professionnel Architexture paste) to achieve a sleek look.

2. Curl It
“Curl all six sections of your hair one at a time to add support and texture,” recommends MacDougall. She says to use a 1/3-inch curling iron.

3. Pony It
“Using your fingers, comb your hair to the top of your crown,” says MacDougall. “Create and secure a ponytail with a hair tie.”

4. Twist It
Next, divide the ponytail into two sections. “Take one of the sections and loosely twist the hair from the start of the pony to the tip.” Lightly spray with an extreme hold finishing spray like L’Oréal Professionnel Infinium 4. Repeat on the other section and twist the two sections loosely together.

5. Bun It
Next, wrap your hair around the base of your ponytail and secure with bobby pins. To keep the bun in place, MacDougall says to give the entire look one last spritz of hairspray.
