Say Yes to This Kim Kardashian Hair Tutorial – The French Braided Updo

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and we all know what that means: loads of festive functions to attend. Instead of settling on the same ole boring hairstyle season after season though, why not switch things up, like our girl Kim Kardashian, to really get into the spirit of things?

“Updos are always great for any party around the holidays, be it the office holiday party or New Year’s Eve,” notes celebrity hairstylist Josue Perez. “This look is perfect for someone who wants to do something different that isn’t so polished and has a lot of great texture and feel to it.” We concur! Steal this braided updo in eight easy to follow steps below, courtesy of Perez.

The Braided Updo: A Kim Kardashian Hair Tutorial

Step 1: Begin by giving yourself a great blowout (we love Rowenta’s Inspiration Pro Dryer!), making sure to part your hair down the middle.

Step 2: After you finish blow drying, smooth a small, dime-sized amount of anti-frizz serum, like Aviva’s Keratin Renewal Anti-Frizz Serum, into your hair from the roots to the ends. Because this updo is meant to look a little messy, some texture is necessary, but beware of too much frizziness.

Step 3: Next, take a section of hair on one side, and starting at the crown, French braid the hair stopping at the back of your head. Clip with a bobby pin to hold in place. Now, repeat on the other side.

Step 4: Grab the remaining hair that’s still down, and tie it into a ponytail, placing it in the middle of the back of your head.

Step 5: Braid the ponytail, and secure it with an elastic hair tie that’s similar to your own hair color.

Step 6: Using a fine-tooth comb, loosely pull out some pieces of the braided ponytail so it is not too tight.

Step 7: Wrap your hair (the ponytail) in a circle around the back of your head, and clip to secure the braid so it lays flat on your head.

Step 8: Top off your look with a light finishing spray, such as Oribe’s Dry Texturizing Spray, and you’re ready to par-tay!
