By my beliefs, there should be more usage of Brazilian wool in the styling industry. It is lightweight and comes in many colors. Plus, it also adds more fullness to a style that synthetic hair braids can’t replicate. I have seen clients who were unsure about styles with Brazilian wool, but once they saw the finished style, they ended up loving it. Brazilian wool has properties that many people aren’t aware of. When heat is applied, it can hold shapes and patterns in a beautiful sculptural way. You can achieve a sleek style, a huge style, or an artsy style and Brazilian wool will be perfect for all of them.
One of my favorite memories is a client who said she had a wedding she went to in Lagos and the updo with Brazilian wool twists was incredible, and she was so worried the style would be too costume-y. It took us close to three hours and when she looked in the mirror she was crying, which also made me cry. These types of styles aren’t just about the hair. They can have a huge impact on your mood. I have compiled 25 styles with Brazilian wool that I really love, some are my designs, some are styles that I want to create and I will talk about them as if you were sitting in my chair.

#1: High Twisted Ponytail with All That Curl Definition
This one looks like a blast! Twists gather into a high ponytail, and then lots of fun, voluminous curls explode from the top. It’s the kind of style that makes you want to move your head around to feel the hair bounce. I love that with this style, there’s contrast: the base is controlled and neat while the top is wild and free. It kind of gives that sweet spot where it’s not too casual nor does it look like you tried to hard to create this look. If you’ve got thick hair, this is going to look incredible, particularly as you’ll need that volume to fill the curls out. To avoid the curls drying out and losing their shape after a few days, I would keep some light oil handy.

#2 Shoulder-Length Twisted Locks That Move Beautifully
I enjoy all the movement that this style has, every twist has a different movement so from each angle it looks alive! The length is spot on as it’s not too short to be heavy and long enough to swing around, which is something I tend to worry about with wool. A couple of caramel-toned pieces would make this even better, just scattered through to look like the sun hit it. I like how this style doesn’t need much else because of all the texture and I love when people let their hair do the thing. It’s so easy to want to style it a lot, but I really think it looks best when you don’t touch it and leave it a few days dirty. Let your hair really shine!

#3: Long Twisted Braids with a Side Part That Really Works
The braid that opens up on the side adds to the overall look and gives it directional focus, as if the braids are sweeping towards something. The length of the braids is very nice, as long twisted braids done in Brazilian wool give a very luxurious feel. They won’t feel heavy and will drape instead of hanging. With the texture visible all through, we can say the installation was done right, and that’s very important for styles like these. If your braider isn’t detailed, you will lose the pattern and it will look like rope, and that is why you should take your time when looking for a braider. These braids should be okay to wear for weeks without giving you a headache.

#4: Long Twisted Locks Dressed Up with Beads
I love how the style of the locks is elevated to a more playful and purposeful level with the addition of the beads. They would also be perfect for a special event or for a little getaway because the extra detail of the beads eliminates the need to change your whole outfit. PLEASE be aware that the installation may take quite a while so you would have to be prepared for a long stint in the salon chair. Also, watch out for the beads when you sleep because they could move around and end up catching your satin pillowcase.

#5: Long Twisted Braids Gathered into a Statement Bun
This style features braids draping down your back and a gorgeous crown bun to elevate the style look regal. I’ve created versions of this style for clients for weddings and formal events, and it always looks great in pictures because the bun adds structure while the length of the braids creates movement. The only thing to be mindful of is that with this much wool in the bun, the weight is focused at the top of your head, so be sure your braid isn’t too tight at the base, and keep an eye on your scalp for soreness after a couple days. When done well, this is the height of protective styling, and one of the most intricate braiding styles I’ve come across.

#6: Twisted High Bun with Those Gorgeous Defined Sections
I let excitement show when styles are made with intention down to the sections. There’s a clean look that’s almost comparable to a design you’d find in architecture or textile design. There are a lot of turns and twists that focus on the structure of the bun because it makes a practical yet totally artistic design to wear. I know I would enjoy every moment in the chair if a stylist was going to put down that many artistic elements. I also hope the owner can appreciate it because it will be a lot of work to maintain and clean the sections.

#7: Rolled Locs with Precision Sectioning
What stood out to me was the sheer neatness of the individual sections. Each section is so clean and even that it becomes part of the design, rather than an afterthought. Each rolled lock has its own little section, and the effect is a beautiful, uniform grid that adds a bit of geometry to the style. For rolled locs in Brazilian wool, I would say medium length is best. This gives enough length to really appreciate the texture, but you don’t have so much that it adds weight and causes the rolls to slacken over time. This style is very protective because all your natural hair is tucked away and safe. It will also last a long time as long as you wrap your hair at night and keep up with scalp oiling.

#8: Twisted Bun with Geometric Braids Leading Into It
Every bun is unique, but I enjoy when the journey to the bun is as engaging as the bun itself, and I can say that the geometric braids that weave throughout the head and culminate at the crown more than provide that experience. Each of the lines in this modern, almost architectural, angulated design resolves in the twisted top bun that completes the style. This is the kind of style that gets asked about, and people always want to know who and how – so that’s always a good thing. The good thing is that once the geometric braids are installed, they don’t require much daily upkeep and the style endures as a great result for quite a while to come. The downside is that the braiding is time-consuming, and there will be a lengthy wait for the result you will get. For the first few days, be more observant about how your edges feel, because the design elements can create unexpected tension in notorious areas when the design sections are not done with precise consideration.

#9: Long Twisted Rope Braids That Stay Neat
These rope braids are thick and chunky which gives them a nice weight. They can easily be thrown over your shoulder and they land correctly. The braided ends look nice and neat for weeks because normally this is where braids start looking loose and really messy. The thick twists also offer a lot of volume while having a smaller individual braid count, so the installation time is good, or what I would consider reasonable. If you want a style that travels well, these are a great option! They hold up to humidity, salt water, and whatever else you might encounter on vacation. You can even go out to dinner after and they will still look nice!

#10: Twisted Locks with Those Gold-Tipped Ends
I think the gold accents are eye-catching and break up what would otherwise be a bare style. They really draw attention to the length of the neck-length twists. The gold accents at the ends of the twists are nice. The textured twists do have a lot of personality. I think the stylist did well to convey this personality through the style. I can tell that she isn’t afraid of a little sparkle. She isn’t the type to just put on a bow and call it a day. The gold ends kind of frizz up the topping twists. I think this style will take a lot of maintenance but those gold accents are a great finishing detail.

#11: High Ponytail with Twisted Braids That Go On Forever
This height on this ponytail is doing everything it needs to give; it’s pulled up high and then these long twisted braids cascade down to create the most beautiful silhouette, especially from the side. What stands out to me is the side part. While it is a small detail, it shifts the whole energy of the style from centered and symmetrical to something with more edge and interest. In my opinion, this is a special occasion style. It is dramatic without being costume-y, polished without being stiff and it photographs beautifully. The one small thing I would flag is that high ponytails, with this much length, pulling from one point can create tension at the base, so I would suggest to wear it for your event, and then let it down to redistribute the weight after. I would not recommend to keep it up for long periods of time.

#12: Twisted Updo with Patterns That Have Real Depth
I appreciate this updo’s 3D quality! The braids’ layering and weaving are so good that they create shadows and dimension, almost looking different from various angles. The technique used for the braids is highly advanced. The artist really knew how to manipulate the hair to create these high, contrasting sections that are reflective and sink into darkness in the lower areas. I’d love to study this style up close because there is so much detail, and the dark color really emphasizes the texture. With good maintenance, this style could easily look fresh for 3 to 4 weeks. I recommend a light braid spray to keep it looking good between washes.

#13: Twisted High Bun That’s Clean on the Sides
This style is successful due to the combination of polished sides with a full, twisted bun. There is a nice balance of structure and texture, and the style is polished but not boring. The individual twists are all tight and well defined to create a round shape at the top of the head. The clean sides mean that the face is fully on show which is a lovely touch. From a versatility perspective, this style works for so many occasions. You could wear it to the office on a Monday and then to a wedding on Saturday, and it would be suitable for both. Some initial twists do take time to create, but once they are done, the only maintenance required is to secure the bun, meaning that this style gives back more time than it takes.

#14 Curly Bob in the Warmest Golden Tones
This hairstyle has a rich color, with warm golden tones throughout the curls, adding depth and dimension to the style overall. It looks expensive and sunny! The bob’s length and volume of curl is flattering, it frames the face beautifully. The curls are defined and purposely done, so they add volume and movement and stay out of the way. I feel like so many people can wear this color, and I love that it is warm without the brassy glow. If you live in a humid place, that is pretty standard for a curl pattern, the relaxed version of this style is that good, it brings a different vibe, for real.

#15 High Bun with Locs That Look Effortless
Wearing your locks in a high bun like this makes it appear as if they aren’t very heavy which is an impressive feat. There is so much class and style with locks pulled up and each individual loc is able to create a different look and feel which gives the bun an interesting and rich appearance rather than simply looking bulky. This hairstyle works really well for someone wanting to achieve a polished and put together look without looking like they’ve spent hours getting ready and this is usually the goal for my clients when they come to sit in my chair. Just a gentle reminder with this style that you want to stay on top of your scalp care because locks that are all gathered together can create the illusion that the scalp underneath is being ignored and neglected and you definitely do not want build-up with a style like this.

#16 Twisted Lob with Curls That Frame Everything Right
The curls in this lob create a fun asymmetry by framing one side of the face more than the other and offer nice visual balance. The cut hits the collarbone, which is a very flattering length, and the twist and curl texture adds youthful bounce to keep the style alive. I wonder whether the great curl definition shows a great install, the right maintenance product, or likely both. This is day one hair that will probably need a little upkeep as the week goes on. Be ready to refresh those curls every few days to keep them from merging and losing their definition.

#17 Bantu Knots on Top with Curls Cascading Down
I really appreciate Bantu knots and feel they deserve even more recognition than they currently receive. Especially when seeing them here with looser curly sections! They sculpt your look and bring an elevated sense of cultural appreciation and tradition, while the curls below help keep the style down to earth and approachable. I love that this style, while composed of two distinct vibes, brings them all together so seamlessly. To make it even more special, it looks as though the knots and curls are actively collaborating rather than competing for the spotlight. Remember that with all that is going on in the look, the exposed sections will need good moisture and a great leave in conditioner will help keep those curls supple.

#18 Curly Twists with Caramel Pieces That Warm Everything Up
The caramel highlights show the skill that goes into the thoughtful and careful placement of highlights. They are not super uniform or stripey. It looks natural, as if the color grew that way. This hairstyle is medium length with some pieces falling to the sides of the face. The curl pattern within the twists adds to the softness and depth, complementing the base color. The caramel highlights pop without being overly distracting. This type of color choice is perfect for people who want change. The twists do need some maintenance and moisture. If you do not keep up with your moisture routine, you will see a lot of frizz where the curl definition used to be.

#19 Short Textured Twists That Are All About the Shape
Short twists are quite often looked over due to the emphasis that many place on length. In fact, the shape of this style is doing more for her face than any length style could. Close, neat twists, and the curls at the ends of each twist serve just the right amount of softness to keep it from feeling too harsh, and short twists mean her features are completely on display. Personally, I think shorter protective styles like this, wear the best through the week because they don’t get as tangled, frizzy and weighed down as longer styles, they just stay looking like themselves. This length of Brazilian wool also looks great with the natural texture, and the whole look gives off such a confident, low-maintenance vibe that I really love.

#20 Twisted Lob with Soft Texture and Great Shape
This style is super easy to wear, and that is a compliment. A hairstyle that looks good every day and doesn’t require a ton of work is a beautiful thing, and most impressive. There are gentle waves with the soft twists that provide movement without many curls. The length is just right so that it’s manageable but still long enough to feel like there is hair to play with. The model has glasses, and this style is great with glasses. The twists frame the face, but not so much that they compete with it. You will want to retwist every few weeks to keep them clean and to keep the twists from getting fuzzy. Other than that it’s a wash and go situation, and that is a dream for most of my clients.

#21 Twisted Updo with Highlights That Create Real Contrast
The color patterns in this hairstyle really elevate the style. The mix of highlight color and dark shades creates dimension and allows for more complexity within the style. When layering the twists, the lighter colors pop more and offer a more defined look. If you are looking for a less time-consuming style for summer, this option is great as the complexity of the color will keep the style looking more intentional. This updo is both clean and polished which is a great summer look. The color work will need to be maintained, especially if the twists are kept sharp. If you plan to wear this style for more than two weeks, then I suggest planning for a maintenance touch up. The look tends to loosen up the most around the hairline.

#22 Twisted Bob with Little Pops of Color Woven In
I can really admire your choice of color. The twists add just the right amount of color, elevating the style instead of overwhelming it. The bob length works really well here, as it hits right at the jawline. It creates movement when she does, which adds a nice liveliness that longer styles tend to lose. The twists are also very neat and consistent which shows that it was done professionally. On top of that, the upkeep on a twisted style is more manageable than you might think with a bob. Just remember to moisturize regularly. Brazilian Wool can pull moisture from your natural hair underneath, so a good routine of moisturizing and sealing is essential to keep both the twists and your natural hair happy.

#23 Twisted Updo with Braided Detail and Volume at the Crown
The extra volume at the crown of the head is really flattering as it assists in elongating the overall silhouette. The braids leading up to the volume create an excellent upward pathway. The entire look is soft and relaxed, and in addition to the styles seen here, this would be suitable for a brunch or art gallery opening. The braids, and how they transition into twists, are well executed. This look will take quite a bit of time, and I wouldn’t recommend it for very fine hair; I feel it looks best for medium to thick hair. Overall, this is a great option that will continue to look good for weeks.

#24 Bouncy Twists with Highlighted Ends That Catch the Light
The bouncy twists are fun to play with because they have a “spring-like” quality to them that makes the twisting motion feel alive and satisfying. This is one of those things that is most easily understood by doing rather than just being told about it. I appreciate the highlighter cap end colors as well. They offer movement visibility and each time the twists bounce, you get to see a pop of the light colored ends. This helps create a fun and lively environment. These medium length bouncy twists are also super easy to style and protective. People won’t believe it’s Brazilian wool. Honestly, if you have this wig, you have amazing hair. Just be careful when choosing which products to use with this style. Make sure you use light weight products when styling to help maintain that bounce and avoid using heavy products towards the end, otherwise you will create a lot of build up to weigh down the strands.

#25 Twisted and Braided Updo with Rich Color Variation
I appreciate how elaborate the updo is regarding color. It has multiple color variations, and makes a natural gradual transition using warm colors. There is one focus area that seems to replicate warm, sun-kissed hair, adding to the overall richness. Additionally, I enjoy the complexity that comes with braiding and twisting because each technique can create such different effects. I think that using both creates more interesting details than using only one technique. Also, the style looks very practical as the end result is very polished, and the volume in this updo shows the density is perfect to create this shape without it looking thin or sparse. I know this style can be very time-consuming, but it can also be very long-lasting if you maintain it properly. To prolong the style, **make sure to keep your edges neat and your scalp moisturized, as it’ll stretch out really well.**
